I have frequented this pub on many occasions and always been delighted. This visit was not great at all. Didn’t seem into it’s usual standard. Smaller portions and food just warm. Not hot at all. And my favourite Meringue fruit and ice cream. Not on offer. Truly disappointed. The ambiance was a bit tense and the general feel of the place not its usual happy friendly environment. And a lot of new staff faces. I had spoken so highly to the guests I took there!!!! Regarding the food and service. But sadly not the case on this occasion.

Visited the end of October as a family of 10. Food was really delicious with a great range on offer. I had the lasagne which I thoroughly enjoyed. We also had the steak pie, loaded chips, half roast chicken, Pizza and a couple of kids meals and everything was cooked well. Service was excellent and staff were really friendly. Was great on cost too with all our meals coming in to just over £150 for the family.

Great cycle friendly pub with rack and secure lock facilities around the back. We were also invited to their Sunday pub quiz. Will def pop in again if on the area.

The Star is a lovely pub friendly staff, we had a family meal there and the food was gr8 so I would give 10 out of 10 for the pub. However we also booked a 3 night stay there and this is why I gave a 3 out of 5. The room of very poor standard wobbly table and chairs, low uncomfortable beds, someone mentioned a green light on all the time in an earlier review, not sure why it needs to be on?. As you enter the room there is a door blocked of with a piece of wood held on by 4 brackets, at night the light from the room behind it shines through the gaps and the noise could be loud and went on to the early hours?the drainage in the toilet is ridiculously slow at flushing, sometimes took 5or 5 flashes and to top it off the front door didn't look when you were in the flat, there was NO LOCK on the inside. So gr8 pub full of atmosphere and lovely food, I suggest you put some of the love and attention in the rooms that you obviously put in the pub

As one of our family group was staying at the Star Inn, St Erth we had during the week that we were there a couple of evening meals in the restaurant there. At the first dinner we were just three adults and a few days later we were a group of five adults and two children aged 15 and 12. On both occasions we were found a very nice table in the restaurant which takes up quite a substantial part of the bar area of this lovely old 17th century inn. On both occasions we were treated very well by the friendly local staff and enjoyed meals that were both nicely cooked and very tasty. We were all happy, we loved the old world surroundings and thought the dinner to be of good value and very satisfactory indeed and will be happy to return the next time that we are in that part of Cornwall.

Was delicious and great value and the house wine 🍷 very good so when we return in October to Cornwall we shall be visiting again 😁

We booked a table in advance because of Covid but would probably have been ok if we hadn’t. It’s hours of opening where shorter because they were short staffed. We were greeted by a lovely cheery lady who told us to sit where we liked. The menu was limited again I’m assuming this is because Covid. Don’t be put off by think it’s a locals pub, yes it is but they were really nice people wether guest or staff. The food we had was lovely in fact we couldn’t eat it all as the portions were very generous. The pizza is one of the best we’ve had and the smoked baby ribs the meat just fell of the bone. Wonderful visit. We’d definitely go again if in the area.

I was made welcome by the bar staff and the covid regs were all in place. Lots of different areas to sit and there was a sunny garden. Lovely home-made cornish pasty at a very reasonable price. The lasting memory of the pub was the 5 men sitting around the large TV (no sound) having a good old chat. When I'd given my contact details to the bar staff one called over "I can phone you!'. I gave as good as I got and they settled to their loud nattering. Very friendly. So, if you want to see a real village with local colour, this is the place.

Often as a group we frequent the Star for lunch on Saturdays throughout the winter, in the past the pub has offered quality pub food at a affordable price - however on our first visit this winter we were rather disappointed. Pie was nicely homemade but lacked seasoning, whilst the burger was more salad/bun than meat, whilst the cheese grated on top was of the cheaper, plasticy variety. Taste however of meats/fish from our meals was good! As several of us would often have a few games of pool of a lunchtime, we were disappointed to see that this is no longer in the bar area - on a plus the beer was of a good standard and always good to see a following of locals.

Homemade meringues yum. Friday prosecco is a tenner a bottle and wide selection of gin. Happy days here.

Pub just been refurbished . Ok nothing to write to home about. Had food in there with previous landlords and was awful. New landlords doing fish and chips . We ordered this and portions in small medium and large. The fish was really nice and the batter was just right, but oh my god the chips were just awful. The amount was meagre and tasted horrible bland and limp, had the medium and so dissapointed , literally there were 12 chips , dread to think what the small portion would have contained . Had to ask for forks , salt and vinegar and sauce as none was offered . Price was reasonable, think they need to seriously look at their sizing.

We then ordered desert and that was nether the less that was lovley. The service was also good. The only thing putting me off going is the standard of meat that we were served.

Staying in the local area on holiday with the wife and kids. After eating takeaways and pizzas etc we all craved a decent meal. Using trip advisor we found this place virtually at the top of the list of places. After booking in advance we arrived to a popular venue. Busy car park and bar area but well laid and very welcoming. Sunday roast choice was beef or lamb or you could order a half and half of meats. They arrived promptly and piping hot. Generous portions, the meat very tasty and flavoursome. Lots of perfectly cooked vegetables and Yorkshire pudding to boot.Good selection of deserts available and staff very accommodating regarding checking the ingredients. The youngest daughter has a severe nut allergy and they have a pre-prepared file relating to every meal they serve and are able to verify easily and without fuss or delay. This sort if thing you expect from big chains not individual establishments and they should be given a pat on the back for this. The real ales were very good and well kept. There was what seemed to be a couple of "professional complainers" on the table near us who it would appear were hell bent on trying getting money off their meal but we found absolutely no fault with our meals and would recommend this place without hesitation or reserve.Glad we used trip advisor for this place because it's a little way off the beaten track but certainly worth making a special trip or divert to go and eat here.Staff very friendly and willing to help.

Hubby and I would have liked to have returned the same evening to sample their pub menu, but unfortunately they only do roasts on Sunday's, which may be something to remember. It was my wife's bday, and everything was A1. My 2 children and wife are vegetarians, and the owners bought in vege sausages for my children as they are fussy eaters. The kids loved them. I did 3 course and the rest did 2. The chef came out to check everything was good, and the quality and service were excellent.
