Was really concerned that the reviews of this place meant they had gone downhill since I visited them in August 2023, but I am pleased to share that they were great. Welcoming staff who double checked my order with me before paying, and then triple checked before handing it over. Interacted with my young son when he was restless. The food was cooked well, and not soggy. Went for cod, chips, and 'bigfoot' sausage which is my sons favourite since we came across it last year on our holiday. Wait times were average for a chippy, about 15 minutes at 4.45pm. Took them back to a local campsite and were still warm.

We were in two minds whether or not to get our lunchtime fish and chips from Hutchinsons, considering the previous reviews. However, we decided to try for ourselves and form our own opinion - and, my goodness I'm so glad we did! Our food was absolutely delicious, and cooked to perfection! The service was first class, nothing was too much trouble. And we found them friendly and courteous. My husband and my father both had standard fish and chips. My mother had fish with small chips (which they helpfully marked on the box!), I had chips and two mushy pea fritters. We asked for no vinger, which was no problem! The batter was crispy, and the chips well cooked! Will definitely return! My advice, if in doubt - go and try for yourselves!

Good quality Fish & Chips ( and plenty more to choose from) Prices,as with pretty well all food outlets,are steadily increasing ,but this is offset to some degree by the good quality.Food is freshly cooked so often there is a bit if a wait, although not normally lengthy. Parking is fairly tight dependent upon the time of day but if you can find a spot,it will likely be immediately outside the shop. Both" eat in" and "take out" options are available. Staff are friendly and helpful

Great fish but unfortunately not good for muslim as fry in peg fat, my non muslim friend enjoyed it tho..

Spent £30 on fish and chips. First ordered as take out but since with little one decided to eat in. Was told we couldn't because the prices are different to eat a bag of chips at the tables just inside ! Right tight that being charged to run a cloth over the table after eating at it! Not like it's a restaurant ! Chips horrible dark brown warm ups, fish thick batter soggy inside dripping in grease . Gross!

Fish, chips and pukka pies were good. Found the peas and curry sauce a bit on the watery side.

My partner had a sausage and chips. The chips were undercooked and rather hard so most of the portion was uneaten as he had to pick through to find the smaller cooked chips. The sausages were okay, definitely better with batter on as makes the sausage a bit nicer. Maybe could do with a better quality sausage. Would possibly return just to see if the chips are always undercooked or if this was just a one off

Only giving one star as I'm forced too though they don't deserve any stars after the service I received and the food I took home. The staff were very rude and couldn't get an order right, i asked for a cheese burger with onions and burger sauce, no lettuce. Got home to find a cold burger, filled with so much burger sauce that it was impossible to eat and lettuce which i made clear i didn't want, there was also no cheese and the whole burger was just thrown in the box, i had to build the burger myself. The gravy is so watery and has no thickness to it at all and the chips were also cold. All the food we ordered was stone cold and we only live around the corner. My girlfriend was treated very badly by staff, she clearly asked for just salt on her fish and chips and the staff just ignored her and coated everything in vinegar. After their mistake was pointed out, the main lady huffed like a school kid and went to get the cook to make another fish and chips. She then started to talk about my girlfriend behind her back to the cook and later the staff, making the whole experience very uncomfortable. My girlfriend felt so bad after the way she was treated that she left crying. Overall the staff lack customer service, the food is very bad to the point I had nothing to eat and had to cook something when I got home. They can't get any orders right! Will definitely never be going back and recommend others to go elsewhere as this place doesn't deserve anyone's money

I myself have been a customer here for many years and so has my great gran and all my family. Sadly this place has gone down hill which is devastating to see. This evening myself, my partner with our baby went in to get dinner for us and my mum, I’m a very tired mum of a teething 7 month old, which was physically visible. When we arrived they seemed very lovely and welcoming. My partner said they wanted onions on their cheese burger with no lettuce. Once had taken our order. We waited 10-15 mins and was asked if I’d like salt and vinegar on my cod and chips, which I replied “yes, salt only please”. The woman who is the owner and who has always been very lovely to myself over the years, proceeded to put vinegar on my cod and chips without me realising she was doing our order as there was other people in the shop at the same time. When I asked if that was my order and it was confirmed it was, I mentioned she had put vinegar on my cod and chips which I said I didn’t want. She was very adamant that I said yes to salt and vinegar, she tutted at me and went around the back to the cook (the other owner) and very loudly, so I could hear said how she asked if I wanted salt and vinegar and I said yes so now they have to cook me another cod because I changed my mind, which I didn’t change my mind. the woman then came back round to the desk and slammed something down on the side and said “you’ll have to wait now!” In a very snappy tone. Due to the way I was treated I was nearly in tears, I apologised more than once and explained I’m very tired due to my baby, so I might not have been clear enough. The owner then whispered to the 2 teenage girls about myself and my partner as she kept looking over at us. The whole atmosphere was horrible! Once my cod was ready again she looked at me as she huffed and said “right! So just salt yes?” I confirmed it was just salt, which she then said “ok, just salt, I’ve said just salt this time just so we’re clear”. I confirmed once again. Meanwhile my cod was being sorted my partners and my mums food was left out on the side being left to go cold. When we got home and unpacked the food, my partners burger was stone cold, with no cheese, smothered in burger sauce making it leak out the sides and too slippery to hold and a lot of lettuce which my partner stated they didn’t want. The burger bun was soggy, so was the fish batter. Both cod’s were stone cold too as so we’re the chips. The gravy was also like water. Honestly I don’t know what else to say other than I’m so disappointed in this place and the poor customer service. I left the shop crying due to the way I was spoken to and made to feel. I’m only giving 1 start on this review due to tripadvisor not letting me give 0 stars. They’ve lost my custom and my families custom, after many years of being regulars. I would suggest the staff having more customer service training would pay off, but considering the way I was treated was by the owner, I doubt training for the other staff will be on the cards.

Ordered chips curry sauce and battered sausages Half the chips were raw and half were cooked so they were obviously not cooked at the same time. The batter on the sausage did not taste right. Also the battered sausage may have been crispy but it was dry 🤮 The only good thing was cury sauce. I'd recommend going elsewhere so you don't get disappointed

Nice food and friendly staff. Seemed busy and lots of locals popping in. The floor is very greasy/ slippy. It was the price for me though, we came for fish and chips but once we sat down and saw the menu, we couldn't afford it but we didn't have the heart to walk out as the shop was busy. 2 adults and 3 kids. So we picked the cheaper options the menu and we paid £10 each adult for sausage and chips and I think it was £6.50 each child for sausage and chips. Plus the drinks. Very expensive sausage and chips

Last evening my daughter 20 with learning disability’s walked into your shop , a member of staff asked her what she wanted in a abrupt way , which she wasn’t expecting and she began to panic and ordered the wrong things as she felt rushed and couldn’t get her words out ! She usually wears her lanyard but didn’t have it on yesterday, just please be a little patient when someone is struggling I know it’s hard when your busy , but it’s knocked my daughter’s confidence .

Always a good sign when there are queues out the door. We opted to eat in and staff were really helpful and friendly asking about our trip and recommending places for us. It was really nice to watch staff interacting with all their customers - obviously lots of regulars which is another excellent sign. Food was really good. Highly recommend the peas and pea fritter! Only lost 1 star as floor was quite greasy and slippy, especially by the bathroom.

Do not make the mistake of sitting inside. We did and got our pants well and truly pulled down. Extortion at its best. When we asked why it’s so expensive to sit inside they said ENERGY, and condiments, the red sauce was bloody DADDIES THE WORSE sauce ever. I asked where the HEINZ was as we were eating inside and paying for the condiments 🫣🤪😂

Can’t understand anyone giving this place less than 5 stars. Amazing Fish, cooked to perfection. Crispy chips- and amazing staff with great values. These guys know the score!

£10.70 for medium cod and chips ...and I am half way through it and its divine! the chips tasty and the cod succulent and cooked to perfection. The staff were lovely and friendly and polite...and human! they read me perfectly and had an appropriate conversation . Deserve my 5 star rating ...keep it up guys.

Wow, what can i say! This was an absolute joke, rude staff who obviously need some customer service training!! Slamming things down on the counter, shooing us away😡 Food was very disappointing, soggy bendy chips. Not sure how you can go wrong with fish and chips but well here we are. Great fish and chips, simply phone through the order, drive to shop and literally pay and pick up fresh cooked fish and chips from very helpful staff.

Very dissatisfied with the quality of the fish & chips we had recently. The fish was dripping in oil, it was tasteless and the chips soggy. Wasn’t made to feel like a valued customer by the young staff serving. We ended up throwing most of it away, what a waste of money

My parents and I had some great fish and chips whilst holidaying in Cornwall. Service was good, prices about average, wait about average, the haddock and chips were excellent! Perfect batter, fresh, the chips were great and huge portions. Reading not so good reviews can be off putting but this place was busy on a Tuesday and for good reason.

Ate it because I was hungry. Long wait, regulars served in queue before me and the fish was soggy. Chips bland, not worth the expensive price tag. Wouldn't recommend

Chips are delicious, perfect meal for sitting down on a Friday evening and watching midsummer murders. Young lads and lasses in the shop are lovely and we never have a problem ordering over the phone. However, some older members of staff can be quite rude. Possibly the manager? (Update 03/06/22) Been in again today. Manager lady was absolutely lovely. We're still watching midsummer murders with our chips too :)

Arrrgh! Everything was great but they gave us the wrong sauces with our meals and no salt and vinegar as we asked for. Chips and fish were well cooked and nice. It seemed a bit chaotic in there but overall it was good.

First time for this shop and sorry to say the last. Got home and was given a gravy sauce not curry. Batter was soggy under my cod so scraped it off my chips. Couple of my chips were undercooked. No salt and vinegar. No forks. More expensive than the new one on the double roundabout and no way as good.

Unfortunately the title of 'award winning' fish and chips couldnt be said for my meal today. But that still wasnt the worst part. The elderly woman behind the counter was beyond rude. Her tone her body language and the way she spoke to me was down right awful. i waited outside for mine since it was busy and obviously covid-19. when mine was ready she aggressively knocked on the window and starting waving her hands about like i was holding her up! The women was so awful the two younger girls working with her looked like they werent aloud to talk unless spoken to! I feel sorry for them, what an awful place to work. The meal itself was fresh, nice and hot even when i got home 20 minutes later. I only asked for a medium sized fish but it was so small and skinny i think i lost weight when eating it. My cheesey chips werent keep sepertaly and my cheese melted all on to the batter of my fish so it went nice and soggy =) All and all it was pretty terrible would not reccomend there are way better places around with nice people as well.

Staff very friendly. Food freshly cooked. Fish & chips wer amazing. I only found out about Hutchinson this week and I've already eaten from there 3 times. Keep up the amazing good food. Its definitely worth a visit for fantastic hot fresh food.

Came here whilst on holiday in the week what a lovely chip shop it was really friendly staff and the portions were massive i had the king size cod which was the size of a whale and cooked right and not greasy and also had some chips and a large suasage which once again i didnt expect to be so big lovely food really enjoyed it thank you guys for a lovely chippy tea 5 stars from me

Always Fresh & Crispy. The Curry Sauce is a Dark Spicy one,.... not the wish-wash pale yellow that is the usual in Chippies. You can also get a fresh cuppa. Staff are always friendly & helpful.

Award winning chippy apparently, only award they deserve is for slow service. Painfully waited 45 minutes for 4 sausages and 3 portions of chips. Extortionately expensive (£4 for a large chips) and small portions, however food was ok but not worth the wait or the price.

Had a very nice selection of fish and chips from Hutchinsons. Good crispy batter. The young friendly staff were exceptional. Service was reasonably quick considering how busy it was and felt very Covid safe as waiting customers were asked to stand outside. Well done everyone. Thank you

Decent sized portions of fish and chips. Chips where fresh. Batter a little over done for my liking, but I know other people may like it this crispy. Would buy again.

We had take away from this restaurant and it was really lovely. The fish was absolutely huge and the batter was lovely ans crispy. Chips were well cooked too. Having eaten from this restaurant I am quite surprised by all the negative reviews as it was very good. Would definitely use again.

The fish was very nice as was the chips. But £35 for 2 adults and 2 kids portions was a bit steep of a price, furthermore the batter was not to our preference as was more a bready texture than crisp.

RUDE STAFF I called in to get some chips and the lady said give me a minute, a regular was walking up the road and she took his order first and he wasn’t even in the shop. I wouldn’t mind but I live locally myself and spend £20 a week in there. If there had been a queue of holidaymakers I could understand, but I was the only other customer. She could have taken both our orders and put his through first and I wouldn’t have cared less. But she actively walked around me to serve someone else. That’s a £1,000 a year they’ve just lost. Have to be at least a little bit hospitable to work in hospitality, or not.

Not a pleasant experience. Staff rude and when staff laugh and turn back laughing at customers it's not good.. The food was not great either. The batter was Soggy and stuck to the chips in a gooey mess. Won't be having Hutchinsons fish and chips again as there's much better in Helston

Really good fish & chips - good prices too

Moved down here last year, it's one of the nicest chip shops I've been too in a while, not usually keen on chipshop chips but they were lovely, nicely cooked and very tasty food. It is the only chip shop I use, hope all the staff that work their are in good health during the lockdown, take care and we'll see you tonight x kerryanne

New to Helston, tried the fish and chips this evening, disappointed to be honest. Chips were not crispy, the fish was only OK. Expected better quality of food especially in respect of the fish as being located on the coast. Won’t be visiting again.

They know what I need and they make sure it's wrapped so that it's still nice and hot when I get home

I've lived in Helston for 12 years now, and if I'm honest, I have never really given Hutchinson's a chance. However, having discovered that the new owners at Jane's seem to have ruined it, tonight was as good a night to give Hutchinson's a try, and I must say that I was very pleasantly surprised. The food looked good, the selection was wide, prices seemed reasonable and the staff were very nice. When I got the food home, taste wise I was not disappointed. I will definitely be now be making Hutchinson's my regular.
