a few in our party had visited before and were really impressed, however sadly this trip really didn’t live up to our expectations. food is priced high, but the service we received certainly didn’t match - very inattentive, lots of missed opportunities (missing cutlery, unclean glasses). the food had lots of issues also sadly - cold pancakes with the duck, mains came out before duck and then had to be reheated leaving the rice clumpy, only one portion of noodles left on a Tuesday night, and very salty beef with mushrooms. overall was a really disappointing meal, and sadly unlike those local in our party will return.

We almost walked by, as the frontage blends into the High Street. I am so glad we stopped. Although the frontage is small, the interior is absolutely fantastic, you can feel the history the moment you walk in.There is a large log burner that dominates the front room, which would be most welcoming on a cold, winter evening, passing through a short corridor, it extends to a very deceptively, spacious restaurant area. I was greeted by Nicky, who was most welcoming and friendly, probably the best welcome I have had anywhere. Dimpled handles of Timothy Taylor Landlord, were pulled, without hesitation and with a smile. We wanted to sit out at the front, two tables are there, Nicky gladly brought the drinks out. Although on the High Street, it was quiet without any passing traffic and we totally enjoyed soaking in the ambience. A good price for the ales, and very, very rarely, they were served at the perfect temperature. All in all, a great job done, thanks to Nicky. The only disappointment?...... I didn't have enough time for another pint there ! Would I return? Absolutely, very pleased it is only 5 miles away.

We’ve visited the restaurant on countless occasions on our regular visits to Ringwood. We usually stay at the Premier Inn down the road but the owner Ian, has often mentioned their recently refurbished accommodation, so this time we thought we’d give it a go. We were delighted with it, and the scrumptious Thai meal and Ringwood Brewery beer made for a very pleasant overnight stop.

There are 2 things I particularly like about The Star. Firstly so many pubs where they serve good food basically turn themselves into restaurants with a bar attached but is still very much a pub - you can (and many do) just treat it as your local, have a couple of drinks and a chat and leave feeling you’ve ‘been out to the pub’. Then there’s the food itself. Rather than traditional pub grub you can order from a range of well cooked Thai-inspired dishes where they don’t restrain themselves with the spices. Where else could you eat a Jungle curry washed down with a choice of real ales?

I'm surprised it has taken me this long to write this review. The Star Inn is a proper local with good well kept beers, excellent and friendly staff, and Thai food that will keep you coming back time and again. I have been eating at the Star regularly for several years, on average once a month, I can honestly say I have never been less than 100% satisfied with my meal. My favourites are the Penang and Red curries, but there is something for all tastes including traditional pub favourites if you're not into the spice.

Deliciously flavoured spicy Thai green curry for lunch on Ringwood gokarting event day. A reminder to me to visit The Star on a more regular basis for their food and the need to recalibrate my trip advisor ratings as this was worth more than the usual 5 star max. Great Thai food at reasonable prices for generous portions and good service. The only area that could be improved was the lack of space between tables, with only two people on the next four seat table it was cramped and difficult to get out. Still overall a good experience.

I can't tell about the meal we had because we didn't get to eat here. We were a party of five, two of whom were children (who do eat Thai food) and we went in for a lunch time meal on Saturday 28th April and the waitress gave us a wary look and we asked politely for a table for five. One of the children was a bit grumpy, but not loudly grumpy, he was hungry. As the manager or owner was fussing about tables, making excuses about how he couldn't put tables together and making us feel quite unwelcome, the little, hungry child got a bit vocal in his hunger because we were being messed about by the man, who then said that he couldn't have that noise in there. The other customers were snooty and vocal about us being there... One said "Can't THEY go to Pizza Hut?" When I asked where Pizza Hut was, I was told that Ringwood doesn't have a Pizza Hut.

Had a pre-Christmas meal with a few friends and despite being late for our table they kept it for us and gave us time to settle with drinks before taking our order for food. The atmosphere in here is very good with lots of locals as well as a few tourists and this creates a nice friendly buzz. In the Market Place with parking outside it is easy to get too and, although not huge, has two bars which does a good Chinese/Thai style menu. I did find my Penang curry a bit too hot but the noodles it came with were lovely. We also popped in here on Christmas Eve and the place was packed, it had a wonderful atmosphere with people having a drink before carols in the Market Place and everyone in good spirits. We went today and was drawn in by the board outside offering English and Asian menu's. We went in and got looked down at from the landlord. It wasn't a great way to he treated. The only person there who had manners was a bar lady with black hair who helped us find a seat and took our drinks order. But I assume because she was friendly she was being asked by everyone for something so we go our drinks from another waitress. The menu was only Asian and was certainly over priced. £10.75 for sweet and Sour. The rice cake out in a huge mound so you ended up getting full on that before you touched the meat. The landlord couldn't serve me a second drink as he was too busy talking to some people at the bar and just stood there occasionally looking to see if I was still there. Manners my friend, manners.

It was busy but there was a table just by the bar, as I was driving we both had a small coke each and asked for a menu. The menu looked good until we realised it was all Chinese dishes. We asked whether they did any English dishes as the board was showing they did and got a curt No. And a bill for £3.50 for two small cokes. The food coming out looked very good but we won't be going back; politeness costs nothing

Good atmosphere - generally pretty busy (a good sign!) and good food. Two bars - the one at the front of the pub acts as a bar/restaurant and the one at the back more as a pure bar, although people do eat in there. They do a good line in Thai food. The staff are always pleasant and it's without doubt the best pub in Ringwood. Accommodation is good - haven't stayed there myself but friends have - but beware staying on a Tuesday night as the market traders start setting up their stall on the road outside for the Wednesday market at about 4am!

This small, quaint old pub used to be "the" place for locals to gather and enjoy a pint with good pub grub. Unfortunately over recent years it has not enjoyed that same atmosphere of old and the current management do not seem to grasp the fact that everybody needs to be treated equally and with a warm welcome, and not just the select few who still bother to go in. As locals who used to enjoy a drink and food in The Star, we witnessed a very real change in attitude and although we continued for a while (several months) to frequent The Star, we eventually gave up. Another bar has recently opened very close by and we have seen many of the old Star locals now in that one having presumably experienced the same lack of any welcome in The Star. Its a shame as The Star is a lovely old pub that still could do very well, if only it had people in it that cared and wanted to welcome everybody the way that they need to.

Visited the Sail inn with my uncle who lives in Lymington. Previous experience at the pub had been very good however this visit has left a very poor taste in the mouth. While the fish and chips were adequate the use of some sort of paper to "soak up the oil" from the food was less than appetizing for my uncle who is elderly. While the stated serving hours were 12 to 3pm when I requested dessert and coffees we were told the kitchen was closed as the chef "had to be somewhere" Given the choice of quality establishments in Lymington we obviously regretted choosing The Sail Inn and won't be doing so in the future - the fact there was no warning that the kitchen was closing early is annoying however the actual decision to shut early on a Friday lunchtime in a competive marketplace is beyond me.
