Probably the worst Sunday lunch I have ever had. I only came because a friend recommended the place. Not a place I would normally go to. Not fresh yorkshires. Soggy parsnips. Lumpy mash and old potatoes used for not crispy roasties. The best thing about the meal was the carrots. And the wine was awful. Will not be returning.

The Staff are great and very attentive. Food is well above the average pub selection. The only comment I would make; is the decor is a bit dated and could do with an uplift. Otherwise very enjoyable.

Lovely pub, staff are great and very welcoming and polite. We eat here often because hubby loves the fish and chips but this is the first Sunday lunch we've had as a family. Can't fault it, fabulous value for money, portions are very large and the meat was beautiful, the beef melted in the mouth as did the pork...and the crackling was cracking . The lemon and passionfruit cheesecake is homemade and delicious, the chocolate brownie is also a must have for any chocolate fan . Only downside is my eyes are too big for my belly and i think im going to pop!!👌 will definitely be returning as Sunday lunch visitors. 10/10

Beautiful Sunday lunch. Choice between 4 meats or all 4 meats was a nice touch. Service absolutely faultless. Wish I'd spotted this little gem sooner. Overall 9.5 out of 10. That extra .5 point is only because the gravy wasn't as thick as id like it to be but still very tasty! Well done to all the staff for their brilliant service. X

Asked on-line if the Rugby 🏉 📺 was on & if dogs were allowed. Quick reply was, yes to both, but we should book, as very busy Sunday lunch time. Arrived on time, table set, TV on, remote control on the table!! The hospitality from the two guys, was brilliant, really looked after us all & dogo🐶. Would recommend for food, drink and overall friendliness.

Me & my work colleagues have made this our regular dwelling for a drink & a meal after work. Can't help but heap praise on this pub! Not only is the food & drink a very competitive price but of the best quality too. The chef informed us that the menu is changing soon. Not that we need any encouragement to return! Fabulous!!

Lovely staff & friendly atmosphere. Food tasty & more adventous than the normal pub grub all homemade & cooked to a high quality. Only reason for 4 stars is the beer garden is in desperate need of a revamp & clear up.

I take no pleasure in writing negative reviews, but it would be disingenuous to describe The Standard as anything other than disappointing. My companion and I went for Sunday lunch. The mash potato was like nothing I had ever tasted before and not in a good way. On the plus side the meats were cooked to prefection. I'm assuming that The Standard is still trying to find its feet after COVID. The reviews pre-covid were mainly very positive. I believe they had won various awards. The staff were extremely friendly and attentive. I wish The Standard all the very best.

Quaint little pub which I have to admit surprised me. Stopped for a quick bite to eat, expected the standard pub menu so was surprised with what we presented with. Ordered the chicken platter, which came out much more fancier than I was expecting. Beautiful food, so well cooked and flavoured - and beautifully presented. Compliments to the chef. We will definitely return.

Food was good didn't like the way the person took the order the customer is always right I wanted mash roasties and chicken and he just made a big deal out of it won't be rushing back

Brilliant lunch today. After finding 6 pubs closed whilst on a bike ride, we were welcomed into the Standard by a helpful, cheery guy and ordered from an extensive menu even though it was 2.30pm. Well done!

We have passed this pub many times but never ventured in until we read reviews on TA last night and have to say we wasn’t disappointed today a good menu offering traditional food and Mexican Korean sandwiches something for everyone we was met with a cheery smile from the barmaid who took our drinks order whilst we chose our food we both went for beef casserole which was plentiful and freshly cooked while we waited reasonably priced a traditional pub friendly staff pleasant atmosphere would definitely come back

Had a lovely meal here tonight with our children. Lovely selection of food for both us being vegetarian and the children. We booked our table in advance. Our food came fairly quickly and was delicious. Only down fall which is probably the same for most pubs was some of the local regulars swearing there heads off at 6pm

Not many places you can sit next to a plane in the garden. Food and service was great as always.

First time out in over 18 months due to the pandemic, the standard was recommended and it didn't fail , excellent social distancing, ,food was lovely and staff helpful and friendly, if I had to pick a fault it would be put sauce bottles on the table ...the little sachets are tiny, other than that lovely, fun evening with table service , will go again if I'm allowed!!!

You cannot come to Northallerton without visiting the Standard! Run amazingly, food is amazing and the staff are super friendly. I would highly recommend this place for drinks or food! Book if you can, it’s busy!

Good food and even better beer in these dark times

Landlord very friendly but unfortunately the food was poor. Lasagne was luke warm and very dry

Had an amazing experience tonight. Went to support our local after the lockdown restrictions have ended to a brilliant new winter menu and tasting platters. I had 6 courses from the tasting menu and the quality and taste exploding from each dish really shows how talented the chef is there. From Korean fried chicken to calamari. Chris ensured the covid safety protocols were followed and ensured we had a safe and enjoyable visit. Can't speak highly enough of this pub.

Lockdown takeaway - Just picked up the Korean BBQ Roast Pork Baguette with vegetable pickle, chips and salad. A bargain at only £7:50 and it tastes amazing. You’ve really knocked this one out of the park. The chunkier chips and lovely salad travelled well in the same bag as my baguette and the Korean BBQ pork is very tasty. Everything was well wrapped to keep it warm so that once opened and plated up it’s looks almost as good as when you are sat in the pub and it’s served to your table. (I say almost as Mike is far better at presentation than me)The new winter menu has a lovely selection of both old and new dishes plus starters which I’m sure everyone will enjoy.

Phoned to book a Sunday lunch for delivery (things being what they are!). Well. We were not disappointed! Huge serving, the beef was melt in the mouth yummy. Overall amazing value for money. We’ll be back (but not today - we need to go and lie down for a while!).

We both had hot pork,stuffing and Apple sauce in a baguette ,very tasty and a large portion.The service was very friendly and we were pleased with our choice for a 'light ' lunch.The Guinness was good too.Definitely somewhere we would hope to revisit.

We had excellent memories of meals we've had there some months ago, we wondered why on a Friday evening no one else was dining,we soon found out,the menu was pathetic and choice-less with no starters we struggled to make a choice p pie's which had no crust all four of us left our food i can only think they have lost their chef and replaced them with and incompetent! so sad

We decided to have our lunch at The Standard as we were in Northallerton and we were glad we did.My daughter and I both had cheese burgers which for once were in proper floured bread buns instead of the brioche which I can't eat, home made steak burgers with a huge amount of melted cheese, with salad a onion confit.My wife had braised beef with ale casserole and chips.What can I say, everything was spot on and plates were left clean.The burgers were juicy, my wife said the beef in her casserole just fell to bits.The chips were proper wedges.Highly recommended to anyone

Called in for a few pints over a 2 day stay in Northallerton. I didn't sample any food but I did see it coming out of the kitchen and it looked and smelt good. The ales were in really good order and the pub has a fab beer garden... with a jet air plane in it !! If the sun is out I would recommend coming here for a pint or two...bar staff were friendly and the locals the same..... the only thing I would recommend to the pub, get the kitchen staff to smarten up a little..... never been a fan of the staff coming outside for a "vape" and wearing clothes that have seen better days.... apart from that.... defo recommend this pub to visitors to the town.....

A great place in Northallerton for a light lunch or a few drinks.

We had an excellent lunch here today; I had the beef dinner, the meat was melt in the mouth, excellent roast potatoes, mash, veg and a brilliant Yorkshire pudding. My wife and youngest had pork dinner and my eldest the ham all of which were polished off and very much enjoyed. For pudding we shared the crumble and jam roly-poly both of which were great. The staff were brilliant throughout. It is obviously a very popular restaurant as there wasn't a free table throughout the food service so I would recommend booking to avoid the disappointment and if you miss out on this food and the amazing prices you will definitely be disappointed.Thank you for a lovely afternoon

On a recent caravan trip outside of Northallerton we ventured into town to grab a bite to eat. One of the first pubs we came to was the Standard we asked if dogs were allowed and were happy to be told yes. We ordered drinks and were given menus. Very good selection of food on the menu from light snacks to full on big plates. I went for the spicy beef enchiladas and my wife the lamb shank. Our food took about 25 to 30 minutes which was fine with me at least you know its cooked fresh not a 'ding' meal.!! Food came and mine was massive served with a bit of side salad and chunky chips. Wife's meal was very nice she said and the dog had his eye on the lamb bone. I couldn't finish all mine due to the large amount i was served, the enchiladas were proper stuffed with meat and spices really really good quality. Got to be honest i was just expecting standard pub grub but this food was of a very high quality. Will return.

Can definitely say WOW food was home cooked and excellent! Potato wedges and garlic dip was the best! Me, Mel and Deborah had a great lunch! The pub is very friendly! Have to go again. I loved the home cooked large portions! xx

Dropped in to the Standard for Sunday lunch. Food is really tasty, huge in quantity, and ridiculously good value for money. I mean, they really should raise the price a little. Staff very friendly, helpful and attentive, and our little puppy was made welcome too. The kids even got given a free ice cream as we left!

We called in to the Standard today for the first time , Had a lovely meal of Sausage and Mash , A nice chat with the Landlord about all the Aeroplane pictures and the Raf Jet Provost in the beer garden , We have tried most of the eating places in Northallerton ,But this was by far the best, We will be back.

A very comfortable, friendly pub in the County town of North Yorkshire. Very impressive range of beers, wines & spirits, together with a lovely beer garden. Great food menu, every meal is cooked to a very high standard.

We were staying in Yorkshire for a friends wedding, there was a large group of us who ventured into this beautiful characteristic pub and without any hassle Paul had us all sitting together, which we thought wouldn’t be an easy task with how busy it was but Paul made it look easy. The atmosphere was lovely, a real family pub with its fair share of loyal locals. The food was incredible, one of the best Sunday roasts I have ever had. The owners Paul and Mel could not have been more welcoming and friendly. The hidden gem to this pub is found in the beer garden, don’t leave without venturing out the back! Would highly recommend this incredible pub.

Brilliant family pub with 5* food

We had lunch at The Standard last Friday, we have eaten there previously an excellent meal at an exceptionally reasonable price. What the pub may appear to lack in decor is more than compensated by the very friendly atmosphere, good quality draught beers and the standard of foods served.

We always like to finish our holidays off with a family meal somewhere and try to stay away from the chain restaurants. This pub literally parked up and it was just there. The staff literally so welcoming and friendly and kind. The food was cheap but amazing and def homemade even the bread for the burger was home made. it was so yummy, ice cream all round the kids. They were so kind to us. You were lovely hosts and really enjoyed the airplane in the garden the kids loved it a great feature and really great touch to a great pub. kids were very welcome. Thank you so much xxx

Friendly service, in an authentic traditional, proper pub. It has a good selection on the menu, at reasonable prices. My one criticism would be the quality of the food. Not great. Prawns we had where either tasteless or off. Still waiting to see how my stomach reacts.
