Little 3 in Hambleton

We had a couple of beers one of them a fruit beer had gone passed its drinking date replaced no probs, decor could be improved, customers seemed to be enjoying themselves.

Thirsk has historically been a bit of a staging post on the way to somewhere else but I’ve often passed the Little 3 and thought it was worth making a bit of an effort to linger a while. Best advice I can give is to skip the other pubs, find a nice seat in the Little 3 and stay put for a bit of a sesh. All the other places trying to entice you in with the promise of “cask ales”, only really offer you either Landlord/Black Sheep/ Old Peculiar, the holy trinity of blandness. The Little 3 had about 4 casks and some other decent kegs, which they change on a regular basis. Friendly staff, loads of outside space for when it’s sunny enough.

Unfortunately this place was closed when we passed on the first night of our stay in the town. Thank goodness it wasn't on our second and last night. This proper pub serves exceptional real ale in a great setting with wonderful staff. We really enjoyed the piped music too. Highly recommended.

Our go to pub in Thirsk really, has a good atmosphere, real ales, dog friendly and staff are also nice - never eaten there unfortunately so can't comment on the food!

Been in quite a few times now, always a good atmosphere and good beer!! Didn't have any food but gave 5 stars as the pork scratchings are the best I've ever tasted!! Been in when there's a music on and it's fantastic.

It would be hard to think of a better all round pub in the centre of Thirsk than the Little 3. It is a very smart and tidy pub in the traditional style; with its music evenings it provides a bit of entertainment; and on non-music nights it is a perfect local pub. The service from the two young ladies was friendly and professional and we always enjoy our visits here.

Went to the Little 3 in Thirsk for a night out to see a band play. It was a lovely evening - the pub is hospitable and the outside beer garden area is fine. But there was a weird problem. I ordered a Bacardi and coke - my date said she could taste no Bacardi. She was right. I ordered a second one, this time without ice. Same thing. No taste of Bacardi, no smell of Bacardi, nothing. I was quite sober as I was driving. And my date always feels the effect of one, let alone two, Bacardis but was feeling nothing at all. I checked with a third person, a guy who was also sober as he too was driving. He also could not detect any Bacardi at all. Now, it may be that all three of us were mistaken - I should perhaps have ordered a neat Bacardi on its own to check what I was actually buying. Could it be that the Bacardi as sold is being watered down? I don't know and don't want to be unfair to this pub. But three adults, none of whom were drunk, were unable to detect any Bacardi at all in two successive Bacardi & cokes. Make of that what you will.

Cracking pub, cask and keg. Great food.

Music night was great, but drinks were expensive. £20 for a bottle of wine we thought was too much. Staff were nice and it's obviously very popular.

Decent time out with family to this pub but not the best at same time… Yorkshire puddings was cold, no horseradish, there was some only one dessert left which was the waffle ice cream sandwich staff was a bit slow but sound tho and there was a dead moth far back of the barn near my brother head

Canny little spot with a larger outdoor area + covered stage and as it was untypical UK BANK HOLIDAY weather we could sit out at one of many picnic tables and take in the totally live 3 piece rock band.

Hubby and I popped in for a drink and some Sunday lunch and we were well impressed!!!! Pub serves Sunday lunch until 5pm, and the bar man was cheerful and attentive. I had the lamb, my hubby the beef and it was the best ever….. lots of well cooked meat, vegetables, cauliflower cheese and the best ever yorkie puds - we will definitely be back 👍

It was a lovely pub, had a great traditional vibe and warm atmosphere. The beer was superb. It was however the first time I'd seen a 'Karen' slogan written on the wall behind a bar. I wasn't sure how to take this as it is my partners name, and I suspect it may have made her feel uncomfortable.

Although the Little 3 might seem like a bit of a modern name, the pub is a splendid example of an old traditional pub with huge wooden beam and nooks and crannies aplenty; and according to signage it was originally called Ye Olde Three Tuns. The service during our visit was top class and the beers were also very good. This is certainly one of the best pubs in town and I can say from a previous visit that the music nights are also very good.

Great real ale pub. Old black beams and a very welcoming atmosphere. My dog loves it and drags me in. Doesn't take much doing.to be fair.

We went there a couple of times during our stay in Thirsk. Friendly staff, great outside area, best beer in Thirsk by a long way. No wonder people in nearby towns were recommending it!

We went here to see love music on a Thursday night. Great beer and atmosphere, dog friendly too. Only problem for us was band started over an hour late and then had an extortionate long break between sets which meant that we missed most of the second set. Otherwise loved it

Good choice of beers, sadly no food but a very warm welcome. Back ground music fantastic for a child of the 70s.we really loved it rare to find this in a pub nowadays. Relaxed atmosphere. Will be back for the band tomorrow. New favourite pub..Also dog friendly. Clean and warm.

Great ipa beers and awesome bar staff. It's got a large beer garden (paved) out back too with heaters.

Spent a Saturday night in Thirsk and this was by far the best pub we visited. Nice staff and a good lineup of ales. Great to see a different range unlike all the other pubs which were very much the same. Returned in the evening to watch the live music. Recommended. Dog friendly. WiFi.

Strange review below. There's nothing wrong with the 'feel' of the place; the staff are great, always a friendly atmosphere and a good choice of well kept real ales.

Another excellent session, choice of 5 cask beers bit quiet but pleasant staff and company. Tidy, clean and well kept throughout no unpleasant smells!

This pub has a real problem with its general feel it smelt like a public toilet ,beer was ok but please sort your sewage system out .

With a modern sign declaring the place to be The Little 3 you could be excused for assuming that this is one of those very fashionable micro pubs. The reality is that, whereas the owners might indeed have modern ideas re stocking a changing variety of real ales (along with the usual lagers, ciders etc), this is a wonderfully traditional pub. It is a very old building with a fine array of ancient, wooden beams and pillars, and the furnishings and decor are decidedly of the old-style, traditional boozer. As such, it is probably the best looking pub in town, and it is also quite a large pub with a few nooks and crannies downstairs and additional seating above. And getting back to the ales - the ones we had were top class, as was the service, and the pub has a really nice atmosphere. They also host live music and, by chance, there was a very good rock act on when we visited. Suffice to say that, although our intention was to sample a few pubs in town, we stayed here and had a super evening. Says it all really and, music or not, this is a super pub.

Really enjoyed the look and feel of this cosy pub. They had a great selection of real ale and gin to choose from. The staff were friendly and helpful. I'd definitely recommend a visit if your in Thirsk and fancy a drink 🍻

What a fabulous quirky find! Excellent selection of craft beers and super friendly staff. We sat in the beers garden, on a lovely day, great ambience, will definitely return next time we're in the area.

Not impressed. No food available apart from extremely dry Pork Pie and hard Sausage Roll. Not even any Brown Sauce available.

Went to Little 3 on Saturday afternoon, good selection of beers but wasn’t aware that any meals were being served. We went out to the rear beer garden where there was a rock band belting out the tunes in the Thirsk sun. Great day.

Well kept beer, good covid protection in place and friendly staff. It's a lovely pub inside with plenty of outside seating as well, a lot of it with cover as well just in case we get the British liquid sun!!! All in a nice place to visit and just of the square.

Lovely old pub in Thirsk, went on Friday and it was very controlled with regards to covid. Sat in a corner most of the night only leaving for food and then returned. Went on Saturday and it was a bit lax on it, people without masks, people moving from table to table etc which made it a little uncomfortable but not enough to make us want to bolt. Hope they do manage to start food again as it is a really nice place and if I was in the area I'd go back.

Arrived in Thirsk on first day allowed to eat and drink inside. We found this lovely pub on our second night. They had 4 real ales on hand pumps. Pennine, Theaksons and Black sheep. All in good condition. Staff were excellent in following Covid regulations. We felt very safe. The staff gave great attentive service and smashing local advice on places to go. We visited every night we were in Thirsk. They were not doing food at the time of our visit but they hope to start again soon.

Great service here, can't wait to try here again after the restrictions are lifted.

Visited here for a drink and food, but there was no food on a week day evening and found the place fairly empty, possibly due to the lack of food. We would have eaten but were informed that food is no longer served. However, inside on the walls there are many meal offers advertised for other local restaurants - weird. This was disappointing as we enjoyed our food on our previous visit. The customers behind us in the queue walked out when they heard that food was no longer served. The bar is full of character and nicely decorated inside. It was clean and well kept. That said it was uncomfortable because it was cold outside and the heating needed adjusting for the open door. Who knows how cold it will get in winter! We sat with coats on to keep warm.

The pub has real charm and character, the staff were very welcoming and friendly, and the ale was great. I called in here quite recently, while visiting Thirsk. This is a beautiful pub, in a wonderful little town. The staff are very welcoming and friendly, and there is a good selection of real ales to choose from. If you enjoy real ales and prefer traditional pubs, you will love Little 3.

Just after the lifting of lock-down not all bar taps were on and draught choice was a little limited. Chatting to staff they have live music under non Covid circumstances and I can imagine the atmosphere in there would be thumping. I'll definitely be back to try that when it's up and running.Traditional inside but very tastefully done and all the staff were really friendly.The beer garden was large and sunny but wrapped around the staff car park. They've made the best of what they have available. Well worth a visit

Lovely cosy pub in the small town centre of Thirsk. Low ceilings, lots of beams and original touches. This is a very old pub! We have been many times; sometimes just for drinks, and many times for good food too. Great range of beers on offer, and the atmosphere is friendly and chatty. Sometimes difficult to get a seat but hey-ho that’s a sign of the success of the place. Food is generally good, and the menu is rotated regularly. Sunday lunches good too! Definitely worth a visit 😊

We visited Thirsk for the weekend and after a day of walking through muddy fields with 3 kids and two dogs we weren’t very hopeful on finding a pub/restaurant that would welcome us all on a Saturday evening! Then we stumbled across this gem- we were made to feel so welcome, the staff were lovely and the food was beautiful! Brilliant service by our waiter and he even brought out treats and drinks for the dogs. Highly recommended and we will definitely visit again next time we venture that far north. Thanks for making us feel welcome.
