Warm and friendly welcome. Went out of their way to provide a meal even though the kitchen was closing. More than happy for us to park our campervan in the carpark, unlike the other pub in the village who, because of their unwecoming demeanor, lost out on our business. Friendly, great beers, great food and a proper country pub experience. Thank you

We gave 1 for the gardens as that’s all we could sample. Finding the venue on TI and being nearby it looked very acceptable. We arrived at exactly 2pm on Friday Sept 8th to be told the restaurant closed at 2 o’clock? So why are the hours listed as 12:00 to 11pm for Fridays? All we were offered we’re drinks.

A first class example of what a village pub should be. Warm welcome from the landlord, a lot of laughs and great craic with the locals round the bar. Our waitress at table was very friendly, highly efficient and a real hoot. My pint of Wainrights gold was lovely, and my wife enjoyed a big glass of pinot, both prior to our meal. The food is pub grub, very well cooked and presented, and served in generous proportions. Steak and ale pie with fresh veg and new potatoes was excellent. So impressed after our first visit we returned the following evening and again were very happy with the whole experience. Well done boys and girls.

Great food and great effort put in by all staff. It’s tricky serving groups and when things went wrong, the staff were really helpful and did their best to make it up. Food was excellent, super tasty and great price. Strange interior decor, needs some love. Also very strange how they don’t allow dogs inside. It’s a great local pub near some fabulous walks which is perfect for dog walks.

We had a great meal here sat in the beer garden at the front of the pub. We let the guy behind the bar know we were sat outside, menus brought out quickly, and order taken by very friendly young man. Both had the steak and ale pie, one with chips, one with mash. Plenty of fresh veg served in a separate bowl. Was the nicest steak pie we have ever had, and we have tried several in Yorkshire! Ordered a crumble and custard to share and that too was delicious. Another young member of staff kindly asked if my mum wanted a blanket as the breeze was making it feel a bit chilly. Lovely food, and the staff made us very welcome, especially the young man and lady waiting on. We were staying in nearby Easingwold and was definitely worth driving to the Blacksmiths Arms for lovely food and excellent service.

We had dinner here twice whilst staying in the area for a weekend. We had tried to book in at other pubs in the area too but communication with those was difficult, but we had intended to eat at another the second night until we cancelled in favour of a return visit here. Booking with this one was quick and easy and they were friendly and welcoming before we even arrived. Our son has allergies and they assured us they could cater for him and they really did. COVID precautions were very good, the food and drink was excellent and the locals were happy to see us too. It was just lovely to find a hidden gem like this. Decided on the Blacksmiths for dinner after reading the reviews on Trip Advisor and we weren’t disappointed! It’s a pretty traditional pub, nice garden (Shame it was raining). It was early so no trouble getting a table, started with the gin menu, a very tasty and huge raspberry gin. There was a comprehensive kids menu but the kids decided to order from the adult menu, probably shouldn’t have done as the portions were massive, even the waitress was impressed by the fact that my 10 year old could finish the giant haddock and chips! Everyone was happy with their choices, bean burger, steak and ale pie and a bacon cheeseburger, all served with the most delicious chips. Staff were lovely and friendly, nice relaxed atmosphere, if we’re ever nearby again I’d be sure to go back.

Discovered by accident whilst walking around Beningbrough Hall (National Trust). Half way around their long walk we stopped by the village of Newton-upon-Ouse and took a look at the Blacksmiths Arms for possible lunch. Weather was gorgeous so we stopped in the front garden for a cold drink, took a look at the menu, procrastinated a wee while until we saw the quality of the food being delivered to nearby tables. With no further hesitation we ordered our main courses of fish, risotto and steak and ale pie for our party of three. Each was delicious with the steak and ale pie the very best I have ever tasted. Desserts were a clear must and did not disappoint. Service was excellent. All in all an unexpected highlight of our visit to Beningbrough.

Visited the blacksmith Inn ordered two Sunday roast beef dinners. Sat in the corner cosy enough but too many flies really need something to keep them at bay especially as your eating. Meal came can't complain about beef very succulent. Two Yorkshire puddings which were slightly burnt. We were given a bowl with five roast potatoes in. Really this is for two adults odd number who has two roast on a Sunday meal a child maybe. I asked for another one and the young lad said I would have to wait. Thinking I would say don't worry but I said that's okay I will wait. It came one potato what a insult. Personally I would of put at least another three knowing someone has been waiting. Also why do they give one dish of vegetables between two. So annoying it's never enough. You pay £18.50p. For this. Such a shame you can't say that was enjoyable. The young lads work very hard.

Pleasant staff and good service to start with and then three beef dinners, a steak pie and a small scampi (as asked for). A shortish wait as you would expect and then it arrived. Wonderful is perhaps the best description. As I commented above, one of the nicest Sunday lunches away from home cooking I've had. I had the roast beef and got good slices of proper beef that melted in the mouth, and as an added bonus the hand pulled beer was good too. We have eaten here a couple of times in the evening, but this was our first lunch, it's fair to say it will not be the last. It's popular so book early or risk being turned away. Unfortunately, there is no 'smooth' beer as the landlord is something of a purist but I prefer to have a choice of beer types and smooth is usually of a very consistent quality. After a visit to beningborough hall we call here for refreshments it was about 3.30pm we asked if they were doing food and were told not until 4 PM so we had drinks and looked at the menu. 4 o'clock came and went but no member of staff were interested to take our order for food. They were too busy drinking and gossiping about the locals so we left and wouldn't go again. Only gave one star as couldn't give none!!

Visited as a party of 4 for Sunday lunch. After entering the pub I wasn't too impressed with pub decor but that was soon put aside by a friendly welcome and great service. We passed on starters and all had main meals. I had steak pie. Although really nice with great chips I wish I'd plumped for the lamb. The meat was superb and was told by the 2 that had Sunday dinner that the yorkshire were the best they'd had in a pub. Veg all cooked to perfection. Finished with a choc dessert and a scoop of delicious ice cream. Overall a really enjoyable meal in a lovely friendly pub. Will be returning again

What more can you ask for? A friendly welcome, excellent home cooked food, a superb location in the heart of a small village by the river and on the doorstep of the great Beningbrough Hall. And all that history of WW2 based at Linton. And the tragedy of the war time bomber crashing on the village. History, landscape and a wonderfully unspoilt very local pub that offers great food, a good range of good Bertrand drinks and a hearty welcome!

They were very polite explain they had a large party and it would be quite a wait to even order. So we didn't eat here but that must say something for its popularity.

We found this pub en route to Beningborough Hall and after finding the hall cafe too busy, we went back to this pub and we weren't disappointed. A great range of food and good sized portions. Roast beef baguette with gravy and chips - delicious! Friendly staff and good service.

This pub was recommended by the host of our bed and breakfast and he certainly got it right. A busy, friendly traditional pub serving good food at a reasonable price. We thoroughly enjoyed our curries, ale pie and fish and chips and the apple and rhubarb crumble for dessert was lovely.

For good value home cooking, the Blacksmiths ticks all the boxes. Their burger is one which sets the standards for others, it has the right meat to fat ratio so as not to be too dry but is really meaty. The beer is good too! It is a free house so often has interesting beers. If you are looking for a locals pub feel, a warm and cosy place, this pub delivers. Newton on Ouse is really lucky to have two pubs which are different enough not to need to compete.

A busy & friendly pub that is obviously popular with the locals, we went for Sunday lunch. Home cooked & with good portion size it was a tasty offering, although slightly on the pricey side for what you got. Nice selection of ales.

This is a lovely warm & friendly pub.The locals always welcome us whenever we visit and the food and service are excellent. In particular, we love the creamed mushroom starter which is too large for one so we always share and the fish & chips are absolutely fresh and delicious.I am not a lover of cask beer but the landlord is very helpful in suggesting a choice and the house wine is very pleasant and reasonably priced.

We called in after visiting Beningborough Hall just for a drink. The staff were the friendliest we have met in a very long time, giving us information about the villiage and directing us to the memorial to the crew of a plane that almost made it back to base in the Second world War. The place was warm and inviting with a real open fire. Although we did not eat as we had done so earlier in the day the food that was being served looked delicious and was certainly home cooked. We will be going back to sample the menu. Well done to all for demonstrating that the true English Pub does still exist.

Sunday dinners to die for. Exquisite home made Sunday dinners, this would have been 5 star if they included chicken on their list however I guess if their ingredients are localy source this dictates somewhat what is served. Nevertheless less exquisite food, tentative service from staff and lovely homely environment.

Absolutely love this place. As the motto on the wall reads "arrive as strangers, leave as friends". We have a caravan nearby which we visit most weekends during summer so most Friday evenings will find us enjoying a meal here. The food is excellent and the service is very good with really friendly staff. Cannot fault it at all. Highly recommended.

Just far enough off the busy A19 north of York to be left unspoilt this pub has character, an original old style and a welcome. It is in the quiet and pretty village of Newton on Ouse and it serves the village well. A front garden of tables, a series of inside spaces that still feel like rooms, a decent car park at the rear, a view of the church and a kitchen that produces great value for money good quality home cooked food. And a choice of ales.In winter the real fire heats the place. and that says it all- no false false effects or false bonhomie - this is a great local village pub.

Happened upon this place more or less by accident, but what a wonderful surprise. We stayed and had lunch their, their home made burger menu is absolutely delicious and there's plenty of it ! Their cuisine is top quality ! Wonderful and friendly staff who go out of their way to make your visit a very memorable one ! We had lunch outside and we really enjoyed the beautiful surroundings, a lovely view of the church. If you intend to have dinner there, then it's probably wiser to book in advance.

A friend of mine invited me to join her for lunch here one afternoon, and having not really explored the local area I agreed. From the moment I walked in I felt relaxed and welcomed. With the friendly landlord and his son behind the bar we ordered some drinks and were seated to peruse the menu. I was completely spoilt for choice but it was at this point I already knew this wouldn't be my only visit. And so decided I would work my way though the menu. Being a "foodie" I was excited about the handmade Blacksmiths burger I had ordered and while I waited I learned that the Land Lady was also in fact the chef who works tirelessly preparing and cooking the food with her team. This excited me more so, having had parents in the pub industry I know from experience if the Land Lady is in the kitchen so is the heart and soul. Which normally means your in for a treat, and I wasn't disappointed. Our food order was brought to us by our waitress who had a huge smile and her service was second to none! We believe her name was Kelly and we apologise if we have that wrong. Tending to our needs and making sure we had everything we needed before tackling the generous plate of food I had in front of me. My friend had ordered the Homemade Steak & Ale Pie, and I couldn't help but feel slightly envious when our food arrived. However after tucking into my burger the envy wore off. The food was delicious and there is no other way to describe it. It was home cooked hearty food that was in my eyes perfection. I did return and unfortunately can't seem to get past the Steak & Ale pie on the menu, even though I promise my self each time I will try something different I just can't resist. Definitely worth a try, again home made with a homemade pastry lid! Melts in your mouth! A bobby dazzler!I'm a Yorkshire lass who likes a good beer with good company and food that has been cooked and prepared with love. You won't find anywhere around quite like it. Reight...M'off T' Pub
