The Stag and Monkey in Hartlepool

I went there yesterday with my boyfriend for my birthday meal, we aren't local to the area so we couldn't possibly know how bad this place was. All the tables were filthy, there was rubbish all over the floor. We had to ask for our table to be cleaned and we were handed a cloth and cleaning spray to do it ourselves. We both ordered the full monty mixed grill, with corn on the cob on the side and halloumi fries, we asked for our steaks to be cooked medium rare. Whilst waiting i observed the waitresses cleaning plates off empty tables but they never wiped the tables clean, just cleaned up the plates and glasses. When our food was brought over less than 10mins after ordering I knew it wasn't going to be nice. Our stakes were still raw so we sent them back to the kitchen and said we asked for medium rare not raw, the poor thing was still mooing at me. When the stakes came back from the kitchen they were completely black, charcoaled, inedible. I don't have a jaw strong enough to chew on a rubber shoe sole. What a waste of already poor piece of meat. The peas and the corn on the cob were off, the corn was brown, instead of the normal yellow colour. It's no surprise no one comes to you to ask if everything is OK with your meal because I would've asked for My money back, I barely touched any food on my plate and still ended up with food poisoning today, avoid at all cost unless you want to be ill the next day. Completely ruined my birthday.

Lovely friendly atmosphere, served straight away and breakfast was lovely, our server today was Oscar, such a lovely kind person

Second time i been in here, bit quieter this time but none the less very friendly staff, tidy pub including toilets which is a pet hate of mine. Food smeels good although ive already eaten. Will definitely come here again as have ongoing work from Hartlepool to Finland

Food was nice. Service questionable. Mains were brought out while still eating starters. No one can back to check if everything was ok and weren’t asked if we had everything we need. Was a quiet Saturday evening 2/12/23 therefore expected a bit more in terms of service. Sadly disappointing.

Luke warm no seasoning tiny portions flat lager. Should have had a tin of soup out of the cupboard instead of spending £25 on tasteless garbage. CT masala avoid!! It's pathetic ... Chicken sizzler no sizzle burnt stringy chicken or whatever it was Avoid this place if you visit Hartlepool

Friendly staff. Excellent breakfast - food highly recommend. Lovely ambience and music at nice level to be able to talk without shouting over it. Staff advised on events through the week

Great service as always and the food was lovely! We come every week for a family catch up and will continue to do so.

Great lively pub with loads of tellys for the live sport, friendly staff and good food. Was in Hartlepool for the night and glad i chose this one to visit

Came to stag and Monkey for birthday celebrations. 22 meals came out without a hitch in a very timely manner and we’re not exactly the easiest family when it comes to ordering our food there’s always a swap and change somewhere!! But everything was exactly as we had asked for and of a good standard and very good value for money! Atmosphere was great in pub too! Will definitely be back.

Came in for breakfast with the family yesterday, breakfasts were generous in size and GREAT value for money! Had a lovely latte, TV screens in the booth with cartoons on which was great to keep the kids entertained! Can’t wait to bring the kids back for the great play area! Huge thanks to the barman who was very helpful whilst ordering and came and checked that our food was all good! 5 star experience !!

We have been here many times, food ok, service friendly, nice at osphere. But the Toilets always a disgrace any day of the week.

Always clean and friendly service. Good is hot and served in a timely manner. The location is quiet and back off the road and is easy to get to. Staff are always friendly and have a laugh.

Called in here last minute one lunchtime with a colleague for a catch up during the week. The table we picked was a little messy and sticky. The menus were sticky too and we nearly left but we’re stuck for time so decided to stay....

Having moved to the area 6 months ago, have used this venue twice a week to eat, over this period have found Fridays quality of food poor, the last (Macaroni Cheese) inedible. Now we have to find a new venue. Such a shame.

Food is disgusting, heated yp in the microwave, chicken was cold/ frozen in the centre, cauliflower was hard. Basic dinner over all and the cutlery was still dirty

The food was lush and the staff was very helpful to us as well and we had a few nights away and it was very clean and tidy as well

My sister n I went to the Stag & Monkey for lunch today. The service was excellent and Declan cudnt have been more helpful. Didn’t have to wait long and the food was lovely and grt value. Wud recommend to anyone.

Mega Breakfast, worth every penny, it was massive. Couldn't finish but made a dent in it. Black pudding was gorgeous

We always come to the stag and monkey. Food is lovely and at a good price. We brought a cake and asked them to put candles in etc and sort it out which they did. They were great.

Popped into the Stag & Monkey for breakfast on a Saturday in March and completely different experience to my last visit. Breakfast was gorgeous and staff where very polite, welcoming and very good value for money breakfast. Will be calling in again.

Lovely beer garden perfect for the sun. Lovely food as always chicken sandwich was unbelievable. Kids enjoyed there tacos also. Nice play area for the kids. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone
