I first went to Mary Rowntrees & was impressed. When I visit Hartlepool, I’ll almost always have lunch there. The standard’s remained high, the ambiance is good, nice people go there & the price is good too. It’s warm too ! Whilst the rest of the hospitality industry is struggling & cheap heat-from-frozen food becomes more common, Mary Rowntrees remains head & shoulders above other cafés & eateries.

We ordered a noodle dish, which was Fettuccine pasta and not noodles. This was very tasteless. The duck spring rolls were really greasy and the chips were frozen crinkle cut I am writing this review in the hope Mary Rowntrees take the feedback on board to improve their service as this lovely place has so much potential. The staff are really friendly and it’s a lovely restaurant, with great atmosphere in a beautiful location. If we see future good reviews we will hopefully visit again but for now, our last experience has put us off.

Booked a table for Friday Twixmas. On arrival straight to table snd menus given. Drinks order delivered quickly. Order placed for dinner. Very polite young waiter and waitress attended our table. The starters were very nice good spice to the fish cakes, nice veg spring rolls. Asked when we were ready for main course. A very tasty creamy curry and chicken noodle spicy plate. Nice coconut rice. Bill arrived very promptly when I asked for it. Good value for meals and drinks. We will return.

We have visited here on a regular basis since it re opened and have always found it very pleasant but it has gone down recently. It is lovely place with very pleasant staff but I am afraid this will be our last visit. It takes for ever to get your food after you have ordered it but the worst thing for us recently has been the number of dogs they allow in with no control. today was like eating in some kennels with dogs continually barking and owners allowing them to rest their heads on the tables and bother people on tables near them. I am a dog lover, but in the right place and for me a restaurant is not the place. Some of my friends have stopped visiting and I can see why now. What a pity because it could be so nice.

Very disappointing. The restaurant was very cold with no heating on. We waited 45 minutes for our Thai food which was served on cold plates. We also waited a long time for our hot drinks. Other diners seemed to be being dealt with more quickly. There was only 4 of us. We should have left and gone elsewhere. I doubt that we will be back.

I love curry and this was excellent. Limited choice for others if not into currys ......but having said that the family had excellent sandwiches and there are a few dishes like omelettes available. The decor and ambiance are excellent (converted chapel) and the service was good. Busy for mid week so obviously popular and, together with the curry, helped us to get warm. Unfortunately no zero beer/ lager available which is always a great shame in todays market.

Was on a visit to my home town. So pleased to see Mary Rowntree’s was open again. Just dropped in for a coffee but when I saw the menu I couldn’t resist trying the food. It was delicious, the service was good and the surroundings charming. It was so good I went back again, for dinner, later in the week.

Beautiful venue, location & views. This place was an amazing find - so good we went back the following day. They do lovely cakes, lunches & light bites. But also amazing Thai food. The staff are very attentive, friendly & helpful. If we ever return to Hartlepool - I will definitely be coming back to Mary Rowntrees!!! If you want to visit the Andy Capp monument - make sure to pop in, you will not be dissapointed!

Found this restaurant by accident it looks just ordinary from the outside as it's an old church However it has been so nicely furnished inside with lovely accessories We were so pleased with the sandwiches and chips and breakfast buns we looked at the rest of the munu as we will be going back on a teatime The staff who served us were very nice If you walk past Andy capp statue just before the lovely little park area you will find it

This is a huge hidden gem! The food and the service are exceptional. Went a few times now and the manager and her team are super friendly, welcoming and professional. The Thai food is so lovely as is the English and especially the lovely cakes 😊 really can’t recommend enough. Stunning building with lovely views of the harbour. 5 stars ⭐️

Situated inside the former St Andrews church, the building has been renovated into an attractive modern appeal. The staff are especially dedicated & are very helpful. The menu suits short cafe style visits for a hot drink & cake, light lunch or a Thai dish. I have visited quite a few times, was surprised it’s not on Trip’, so I added it. Rare that I’d add someone’s business success but doing so benefits Mary Rowntrees & visitors. It’s that good.

A quickie review based on a quick visit .My wife and I popped in for coffee and something but unfortunately it appears that the something was scones or pizzas .We had scones and coffee, very nice and a good price at £ 4 -95 each . My question is , why do they not have prices shown on their menus ,neither drinks nor food ? As I wrote earlier the coffee and scone deal is excellent but there was no sign either in or outside to advertise this . Apparently it seems that this is because “prices keep changing and we would have to change our menus !” Unbelievable, never had this happen in a restaurant ever . Incidentally I’ve had a pizza here previously and it was ok but as I say I don’t know how much they are now !

Aestically this is a lovely vintage hotel with nice-sized rooms and friendly staff. However, I would be concerned about staying in the summer.. read on. After a long day at work, I chose to relax with a bath. After running the tap for 5 or 10 minutes it was still cold. When I contacted the night porter he later explained the boiler had been turned off and was now back on, however it would take 30 minutes to warm up. After waiting an hour or two, it got to midnight and by this point I was too tired. I was later explained to that you can either have the heating on and hot water or nothing at all. Hence my concern for the summer! For breakfast two metal flasks were not labeled so had to guess which one was coffee and hot water. Both of these were not hot at all and were luke warm every morning despite turning up 8am. The food was well cooked but not much variety, and the fresh juice not very pleasant. Also randomly a roll of tinfoil and cigarette materialised under my bed despite having a private sign on my door. Again overall love the aesthetic and nice staff just would not stay for work again especially as they don't have a dedicated restaurant for evening meals.

After visiting The Black Olive numerous times for lunch and being overly impressed each time with the menu, we thought we would choose it as a venue for our Annual Family Christmas Meal- and we were not disappointed! Absolutely gorgeous food full of flavour and portion sizes were spot on. The beef was cooked beautifully and we couldn't get enough of the cookies and cream cheesecake! We were a large party of 21 and each one of us walked out satisfied (and stuffed!). Staff were all so friendly and kept the evening running smoothly by checking to see if everything was okay- Even the Head Chef stopped by to check in on us! Thank you all. Can't wait for our next visit, we'll definitely be back!
