Stopped for a drink on the way home. Have promised myself this for ages, but it is a little further outside the range for home. They have been very active on social media in recent months, so it would be rude not to stop! Well received with pleasant welcome. Glass of wine and a pint of Tring Brewery beer exclusive to The Stag. Nice atmosphere so will be stopping again, and perhaps have a meal also. Well worth a visit.

I went here with a friend to enjoy good food and for quality time. The staff were attentive when we arrived and showed us our table promptly. We both ordered some mocktails which were delicious. The food we ordered, the portion sizes are just right, they aren't massive and they aren't tiny and each dish was delicious. We decided to share the dessert, which takes 30 minutes but we think it's worth the wait. I can't wait to return later on in the year or potentially try one of their Sunday Roasts

Because of group number we had to reorder main course, not a problem. The sweet menu is fussy & over elaborate, the coffee & fudge was a source of group humour!

The pub of the summer? Stunning building in a beautiful location, superb staff and cracking drinks selection! We didn't stop for food but the menu looked lovley, local produce, pub classics and daily specials. The extensive wine is enough to keep everyone happy with an astonishing and well priced selection. Can't wait to return for a meal and a sunny spot in the spacious garden!

Had lunch at The Stag for the 1st time today (Saturday). What a beautiful, community run place! Delightful mix of light, modern with traditional. So welcoming. Delish food. Friendly staff. Can't wait to having lunch outside in the summer. Really recommend Saturday lunch as wasn't at all busy.

This is one of my favourite restaurants in the area. Reliably delicious food and friendly service. The Wagyu Burger is great with proper chips that are seasoned well. And a Pea and Wild Garlic soup starter. Yummy! Will be back!

I'm always a happy customer of The Stag. The menu was a bit restricted on this December visit as they were serving Christmas dinners for larger groups alongside other "normal" diners. I'm scoring a little less for the atmosphere on this visit for the same reason. Staff are universally helpful and the food was, as always, delicious

Wonderful restaurant which has a tradition created over many years of providing class and cultured dining. Thoroughly enjoyed a family dinner there this month and can’t wait to go back Good menu and wine list to suit pockets and taste.

I’m a local. So I’m biased, but was in tonight and there’s a new manager (Sam). She’s shaken it up for sure. It’s the best version of itself. Low level, intimate lighting. Felt like a vibey, young, very welcoming destination venue. It’s fair to say that there’s been many twists and turns with the Stag but this feels like a re-set that’s built to last Full disclosure - I’m not a shareholder. But now regret that I’m not. If you have visited in the past and had any kind of misgivings I’d urge you to return. Entering this evening felt like being given a hug from an old mate .

Beautiful surroundings, tasty food and staff very friendly and efficient, only dropped a star as asked if we wanted to leave a tip on top of the already 10% service charge which was a little embarrassing. But everything else was great

Its a lovely pub and the food is ok but the staff needs a proper training. Lazy kids with no manners. I had to ask the waiter to clean the empty plates. When I asked for another fork he brought me o e 5 minutes later and placed on dirty menu. No work ethics whatsoever. Someone should train them asap.

Beautiful old English pub with a long and interesting history in a quintessentially British setting. The Stag's Sunday roast was spot on, cauliflower cheese was possibly the best I've experienced, the ambience was in step with the food. Our servers were switched on, lovely and attentive. The whole experience made my Mum's 80th birthday weekend a memorable one. The Stag does Mentmore proud - even better that it's a community owned venture. I'll be back....

Amazing venue and excellent food and service.

A beautiful pub in a beautiful village! The multi-level gardens are a fantastic place to relax and enjoy a glass of champagne with friends before going in for dinner. We came here to celebrate some friends birthdays, and had a brilliant time. The staff were all fantastic, and we kept them on their toes with our enthusiastic drinking! The food was beautifully presented. I had the cheese custard to start, as the rest of the table ordered the Salmon and I wanted to see something different! The Salmon looked great and the others loved it, the cheese custard was presented immaculately, but was perhaps a big heavy/large for a starter and could do with a few more flavours/textures as it was a bit monotonous at the end to eat. For mains, we had the curried haddock and the steak. Both were perfectly cooked and tasted amazing! We then had some cocktails to finish the meal off. They don’t have a large selection, and were apprehensive of making anything out of their staple, even when given the ok to watch YouTube and have a go 😂 the cocktails they do serve, however are well presented, and could knock out a concrete donkey! All in - a brilliant place to go to relax in the beer garden, or for a special occasion. We’ll be back!

This delightful refurbished pub on the Mentmore estate is well worth a visit. Built in 1840’s by Baron Rothschild the interior has been tastefully modernised with pastel shades and wallpapers in a shaker contemporary style. There are local works of art as well as eclectic memorabilia. The staff are professional and beautifully attired in corporate uniform. The interior has intimate tables arranged in a thoughtful fashion throughout the large dining area. There is a beautiful garden with a tiered dining area. The food is glorious and presented to a very high standard for connoisseurs of fine dining, but the Stag also offers afternoon teas and coffee. The menu is comprehensive as well as the wine list. The pub is community owned and not affiliated to any brewery. The location is on the Rothschild estate and is a wonderful place for country walks. The house Mentmore Towers is closed to visitors and currently unoccupied and is a superb nineteenth century revival of Tudor and Jacobean architecture. Many major movies have been filmed there. Close by they have been filming ‘Wicked’ delayed by the writers strike.

Really nice and bright inside. A smashing pint of bitter and very good burger on the lunch menu. The Sunday Roast is really good and well worth travelling for. Unfortunately, on this occasions I was not impressed with the desert and cheese board that were presented. That said, it would not prevent me from going to the Stag again.

Came here for a Terranium workshop. Lovely setting, good food and drink. Possibly a touch on the expensive side, but I don't mind that too much. Really lovely garden. Regular events and workshops held there which is great. Oh and the staff are lovely. Really friendly.

Our favourite place to go for Sunday lunch. Beautifully prepared food and great staff who are attentive and really nice! My partner loves the lamb and says it's his favourite Sunday dinner. The surrounding village is so pretty, definitely worth the trip if it's a little further than your usual restaurant or pub. Good vegetarian options too!

Superb service. Had a party of 18 for a birthday celebration last night. Couldn't have been looked after any better. Food was lovely. The team that looked after us were totally on the ball and went beyond what was expected. Lovely place. Fabulous staff. Highly recommended.

Have cycled past many times n I finally visited for Sunday lunch. Sat in the sunny and beautiful gardens (altho the inside of the pub also looked lovely). Food was good but the service was very friendly n attentive. We'll defo be back, altho it's best to prebook if you want to eat.

Really nice pub in a great location. We were running late for our lunch due to traffic and they kept the kitchen open for us until we arrived, great service! Food was excellent too, burger and chips way above standard.

The Stag is a little hidden gem! Not only is the pub absolutely beautiful but the team are so friendly, welcoming and the service is outstanding! Food is next level delish! My boyfriend was blown away by the pork Sunday roast (he's super fussy) and I'm a veggie and I absolutely loved my roast too 😋 I also love that they support local businesses through selling and displaying their artwork, hand crafted goods and running workshops - it really is one of a kind and a must visit! Huge thanks to Lauren and Julia for your support of my business and for making me feel so welcome every time I've visited, it's makes the world of difference to be greeted by such smiley happy peeps!

Great staff that were bothered about providing good service, which is sadly rare these days. Good coffee, nice wine, and perfect food. My only gripe is having only one choice of desert being gf. Most things can be made without gluten that doesn't compromise on the taste and then jokers like me can have choice. Brilliant place 👏

Stopped by for a lite lunch. Nice choices - not too pricey, great attentive service. I like the interior and some nice micro brewery ales on offer. Would go again.

1st visit lovely location, food excellent along with the staff very good.

We were staying in Walmer for a holiday and were delighted to find such a welcoming pub. Dog friendly and with a good choice of beers and spirits etc AND opposite the beach - what more could you wish for. Good to know that whilst The Stag doesn't do food as such - they offer a range of filled rolls. Ours were fresh and tasty and just the job with a cheeky holiday lunch time beer!

We called in late afternoon for drinks. The Stag was refurbished prior to lockdown and its very cosy and well laid out. There is a small outside seating area too. The service here is second to none. There is also a Happy Hour Monday to Friday from 5pm to 7pm, which makes a visit excellent value.

Visited the pub yesterday for birthday drinks yesterday, was our first ever visit , we found the pub very friendly the drinks lovely and the bar staff excellent, the music was also fantastic

Perfect slightly upmarket country Pub, a clear step up from the mundane average places everywhere else. The welcome is warm, the staff efficient, the food excellent and the ambience mature with a degree of sophistication without being pretentious. Nowhere comes even close to it within 40 miles that I'm aware. A beacon of how it should be done without downgrading to the populist chain pubs and those just getting by.

The Stag is a brilliant place to eat and one of my favourites. Always a warm welcome and the food is always excellent. The piano tops it off. FAB.

A delightful Sunday lunch celebration - all ages (1 - 70) catered for. Lovely welcome and attention throughout. Beautiful rare beef, fine venison and sea bream with all the usual accompaniments.

Best food I've ever had in this part of the county (at reasonable prices). My friend and I had a sharing platter and every single item was delicious. The desserts were fab too, and well-priced. The chef clearly knows her/his stuff. Great service. Lovely garden. After lunch one day, I recommended it to my parents for their wedding anniversary the following evening, and they had an equally lovely experience. I look forward to going back sometime to try out the gin and cocktail menus! I highly recommend this place - it deserves to be busy all the time!

From the moment we entered the restaurant, we enjoyed every moment spent there. The warm greeting, the ambience, the friendly staff and the most amazing food. The choice on the menu was so good, I had trouble making a choice as all my favourites were there. On top of this, there was an amazing young girl who played the piano the whole time we were there without a break. Being a music lover, I was very impressed with her reportioire, playing all my favourites. All in all this was a very enjoyable evening, and look forward to going back soon.

First time at the Stag but definitely not the last.

Our once a month Sunday roast treat at the Stag, food the usual high quality, staff lovely as always, reasonably busy so a bit of a buzz, all in all another pleasant experience.

Been a number of times and it's always excellent. Varied menu which changes seasonally. A great mix of traditional and gastro type meals and in our opinion the best of its type we've found in a 20 mile radius. Great service, lovely presentation and meals piping hot. Cannot fault it and thoroughly recommended.

Love The Stag in Mentmore. It is by far the best restaurant in the area. The menu is excellent, the cocktails are great and the specials are always worth consideration. Never had a disappointing experience here.

Service was excellent, as was the food. We received a warm welcome and pre-dinner drinks were presented in a relaxed manner in the stylish bar. The menu is not huge but everything sounded delicious and what we ordered (including the specials) was superb. The prawn starters went down very well; fillet streak medallions outstanding and the cheeseboard excellent (to name but a few). My father described it as the best meal he had had in years. Only small disappointment was that having been asked when booking whether this was a special occasion (it was), there was no acknowledgement on the evening. However, a delicious and memorable meal.

Hicimos un almuerzo en la despedida en enero de este año para mi mejores colegas solteros almuerzo, nos reservamos nuestra comida, así que sabía lo que estábamos pasando y el pub era más que servicial, la comida llegaba a tiempo y el servicio era bueno, el pub era un lugar estupendo para pasar el rato con dardos, mesa de billar, música, etc. Lo que se suponía que era un almuerzo de 2 horas se convirtió en 6 horas muy rápidamente. I chose this venue for a gathering of former school friends . The ease of booking, the excellent welcome on arrival, comfy seating before we were shown to our table and the excellence and courtesy of the staff throughout the meal was outstanding. The food was beautifully cooked and presented so full marks on every count. The Stag is in a nice setting with good views to the rear.

Usual high standard, a Sunday treat for my wife and I, she had the Pork Belly, which was amazing I had her crackling which was wonderful, I had the roast beef which was lovely nice size portion and a nice selection albeit it came with the obligatory red cabbage which neither of us like, the dessert of crumble and custard, was a treat from my childhood, all in all a good lunch. Staff were very nice and helpful.

Been a couple of times and it doesn't disappoint. This time on a Sunday. Same menu as usual but wuoadded specials including Sunday roasts. Couldn't fault any aspect. Service, surroundings and food all great. Will definitely return.

Exceptional food but for the amount of money you pay for it you'd expect the pub itself to be a bit more upmarket! Lovely for a date or anniversary meal/birthday but too dear for normal dining. 10 out of 10 for the food 7 out of 10 for the surroundings.

Excellent evening our friends were impressed. The only thing we would grumble about is the amount of vegetables given for 4 people not really enough especially as only 3 pieces of cauliflower for 4 people. Wouldn't hurt to be a little more generous with the vegetables. otherwise a lovely evening.

Overall an excellent meal but the lack of table cloths or place mats sort of made the ambience cold which is quite strange as the cocktail lounge is first class

Excellent food and service as usual. We go to The Stag for all our family occasions, birthdays, anniversaries etc and have also introduced many friends to it who all want to come again! The food is always imaginative and well cooked but not so over the top you're not sure what you're eating!! Quite a few of our London friends love it!

Lovely setting, tasteful décor with pianist. Extensive cocktail menu well executed. Discreet service with very pleasant staff. Starter of King Prawns excellent (but let down by rather doughy roll). Dessert of Cherry Parfait delicious. Main course fillet steak and vegetables rather disappointing.

We have never been disappointed when visiting the Stag. Lovely food, friendly and helpful service. We will definitely be going back!
