The Lord Nelson in Dover

That was the best Sunday roast I've had in a long time! Thank you 👍 All home cooked, beautiful flavours, the food was absolutely delicious. Fully recommend a visit 10/10.

Arrived today with our newborn about half an hour after the kitchen closed but they were kind enough to open the kitchen for us and cook us some delicious food. Such a great reception. The type of service that makes a good pub a great pub. Can’t wait to return

The menu looked amazing, but a bit expensive

Me and my husband visited the lord Nelson on a Thursday evening. The pub it's self is lovely, with lovely vibes, the was a book case of board games you could play. The lady serving us was very welcoming and couldn't do enough for us. We met the chef too who again was friendly and welcoming. I had the Nelson burger with a side of mac and cheese, and my husband had the fish and chips. Both were presented lovely and tasted amazing. We will definitely be back again.

I had the fish and chips. Was hoping I would get fresh fish. But it came from the freezer. Quite a shame actually... Service was excellent and the atmosphere was nice!

It much to write home about here. Food was okay. Drinks were drinks. Staff was polite.

The worst fish with chips I’ve ever had in England, the fish was barely visible despite generous batter. Lord Nelson would be grateful for his fate than to have dined here at £17 for that abomination.

Nice buzz on a Saturday afternoon, fresh pints and homemade food. Staff were friendly too. Would recommend.

The food is very good and the staff is realy nice

I came in here last Friday for a wonderful lunch with a friend and sat out on their terrace which is a glorious suntrap. Been here many times over the last 5 years and I believe that this is The Lord Nelson hurtling towards becoming Dover's number one venue. We both really enjoyed our lunch with wine & non alcoholic beers under the beaming sun. Food was cooked fresh to order, was very attractively presented with homemade coleslaw with my chicken burger. Closed at 14:00 on Tuesday. When I queried the guy walking out, locking the door, when they opened, he said we're closed on Monday. It was Tuesday. 3 stars to be neutral.

Despite appearances, very happy with food and service.

Avoid this place. The customer service is terrible, and the delays are unbelievable. The staff are untrained and create an unwelcoming atmosphere. Additionally, the food is below average.

It's quite busy but that could be because they have live music, which always makes me a good atmosphere

Accueil sympathique dans un cadre typique. Fish & chips et seafood linguine copieux. Côté bière, un choix très correct avec notamment une bière ambrée dont la brasserie date des années 1600 (sheperd neame Bishop finger)! Cadre convivial!

Claims to be Dover's best. I can't confirm that but had a really nice lunch here. People really helpful and food excellent. Had the fish and chips.

Sunday roast dinner. Well worth a trip in and try a banging roast. The place is nice and clean now .

Me and 5 colleagues had a very pleasant meal here. I went for the chicken and ham pie and asked for chips and red cabbage and its was delicious. Staff were welcoming and efficent. Only slight niggle is how poorly stocked the bar is, limited cider options, soft drinks out of large bottles in the fridge. Oh and food was reasonably priced too. I wouldnt hesitate to go there again.

Wonderful Sunday roast cooked by the extremely talented Nizel and team. Everything cooked to perfection and great service. Very well priced and they even did a child portion for me as I have a small appetite. We’ll definitely be going again.

Had a wonderful meal the day at Lord Nelson and I would highly recommend this venue to anyone looking for a good Sunday roast. The food was beautify cooked (by the very talented Nizel), especially the Yorkshire puddings. The service was spot on ( a very friendly and attentive team), considering we were a large group and the price is reasonable. Again I would highly recommend and will eat here again.

Excellent Sunday lunch at a very reasonable price, I cannot fault the food and service, even though we were a large group of ten the food came out quickly. have been looking for somewhere good to eat in Dover and was not disappointed, Yorkshire puddings where amazing, will definitely be returning.

Just stopped for a bite before the ferry . Late Thursday night . Really friendly staff, brilliant music and food was amazing. Had the free range chicken and my partner had bangers and mash. Wasn’t expecting that level of cooking tbh. On our way home to Mallorca - shame you aren’t down the road chaps ! I don’t do food fotos but wish I had now lol

Nous nous sommes arrêtés dans ce pub après quelques courses au M&S voisin sous une pluie battante. Le pub est sympa, joliment décoré. Vu l'heure (16.30) il était encore très calme et un peu froid. Regrettablement, les deux bières qui me tentaient le plus étaient épuisées. Ce n'est pas la première fois que cela m'arrive en 10 jours. Bizarre, ce sont toujours des bières anglaises, même locales ! Est-ce voulu pour pouvoir mieux vendre leurs pauvres bières espagnoles ou italiennes ?! Ou l'inflation sur les matières premières, je m'interroge...

Walked into the Nelson and was met by the new owners. Had such a great welcome and hilarious chat whilst drinking great beer! The Chilli squid is to die for. Amazing place, great food, drink and atmosphere.

We stumbled across this place while staying in Dover and were please beyond expectations. The new owners were so wonderful. The environment was so warm and welcoming…and a damn fine selection of beers. We will return before we leave Dover!

Fabulous place found whilst needing to stop over in Dover. Lovely knowledge of history in the area, friendly couple running the place, happy to listen to our crazy adventures and trials and tribulations of our biking holiday. Bikers, please visit for a drink or more if waiting in Dover. These guys need the support of friendly punters 😊 love young couples setting out with dreams and ambition. Toulwts absolutely immaculate and also provide lovely different scented handwashes and also (sorry men,but) sanitary products, which i have neve rin my 47yrs on this planet seen free in the cubicle! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Brilliant,thanks so much xxxx

Great pub with great atmosphere & great couple running it. Called in when passing but stayed longer than intended as so comfortable. Would deffo recommend & call in again if passing!

Propped in for a pint the young lady behind the bar was fantastic very helpful and even brought us strawberry's lovely little place thank you young lady

Luckily happened upon this lovely pub when staying for a night at the travelodge located nearby. They serve my favourite lager Spitfire AND do lovely cocktails; I enjoyed an espresso martini. Even got a free mocktail, (thanks Georgie!). This place is exactly what Dover needs, clean, refreshing and it just had a really good family friendly atmosphere. I will definitely be returning for some food and more drinks. What a gem of a pub. If you’re a tourist or a local - this place fits the bill.

Visited this during our recent trip to Dover on a very warm day. Lovely bar with friendly people. Had a Gin and Pimm’s cocktail, both were yummm. Enjoyed my time trying to complete the puzzle 😬 Also special mention for the very clean toilets 🙂

The best sandwhich I didn't know I wanted. After not being able to have diner at our 1st choice, we popped in to look at the menu. Unsure if a sandwhich was what we wanted, but not wanting to wander around. We opted to to stay. The sandwiches were excellent and the coleslaw was great. Top notch service. Highly recommend. Great Gin Bramble also.

Best COLESLAW in the WORLD! We were only in town for a week, but we went back a few times because we loved it so much. It has a patio and plenty of space to relax. This place is all about good quality food and comfortable environment. The staff was super friendly, the beer was delicious and the food was amazing!

Nice pub with reasonable prices

Great place for a drink with comfy outdoor seating by the riverside. Their sandwich menu has great vegan options. I went for the vegan friend chicken sandwich, my partner had the fish finger sandwich. Huge portions, so tasty and good value for money. Staff were really friendly. We'll definitely be back

Went here for drinks. Lovely pub. All clean Staff polite and friendly Drinks are expensive I had a cocktail my husband had a beer it came to £14.50 But it is a nice place

Visited with family for Mother’s Day tea, really friendly helpful staff, service was fantastic, cocktails available and all beautifully presented. Pub itself is newly refurbished, clean, comfortable and very welcoming, thank you for making our day special.

Booked to visit on 27th December. Photos do not match reality. Needed to ask for the menu. The chicken burger was a massive chicken breast. Cutlery was dirty, needed to ask for replacement. Generally not a good experience. Not recommended.

Rob, the Landlord has done an amazing job with the place. It's a bright modern pub/restaurant now, and a far cry from the dump of a boozer it used to be! Give it a look!

This pub dates back to 1805, so you can’t accuse it of having lacking history; though in the meantime it has taken on some fairly substantial gastro-pub/bar upgrades that somewhat betray that fact it is over two hundred years old. Place looks nice and has a great view of the castle. The food felt overpriced, the coke was flat. Wine was reasonable. Staff were very friendly.

Group of six were down in Dover for a football match, and arranged to meet here as I discovered this fine place on google and was not disappointed. Exceptional quality finishing both inside and outside and was luckily enough to be able to seat outside on the decking as it was 20c plus on a barmy October afternoon. A few of the beers were not available due to issues beyond control, which was the only downside, but we are in a strange place at this time. 4 of us had the chicken and beef burgers which were absolutely lovely and very well presented. Would definitely visit again if back in the area

Lovely place to eat a burger or fish and chips and relax in the terrace. My 8yo was very happy and the guys made sure that she had a great time. Totally worth it

Had a lovely evening at the Nelson tonight. Boy how this place has changed since the late 80s. Thomas worked very hard/ single handed attend to us making sure our glasses were full. . Not much choice on menu but what we had was nice. . the menu

Fantastic place to sit, relax, and chat over lunch, which was fabulous. We sat outside by the side of The River Dour. .. Top class service from Bob & staff.. We shall definitely visit next time we're shopping at M&S In St James's.. 😎
