Great value pub, really good food with generous portions, lovely staff and dog friendly.

We went here for lunch. Always a varied menu and excellent quality, no matter what your food preferences. Large rear garden with good seating. Wheelchair access throughout and adequate parking

A few of us went for our Christmas event. We had ordered nibbles before hand which were very nice. The service was good. Thank you.

Great friendly pub with accommodation. Rooms clean and tidy, staff extremely friendly, local pub with a family atmosphere and varied drink and food options. Very well prepared and served food for "pub grub" and a Sunday Roast. Prices very reasonable for the service, would recommend and will definitely use again for a weekend stay.

Lovely roast beef 😋 staff are very attentive, but watch out when ordering a bottle of wine. Make sure you make it clear that you are after a full-size bottle and not a small glass size one .

A beautiful country pub , The Roast dinners are very special. Excellent bar staff who cannot do enough for you. Always impressed with the regular live music on offer . Friendly locals with a lovley garden . This is all made possible with the landlord and landlady along with the staff . Thankyou for a lovley day .

Elton tribute was good but was overlooked at the bar. They probably need to pay more attention to who's been waiting the longest. Or maybe I needed to be rude like the guy at the end of the bar who finished his drink and asked for his next drink regardless of the 5 others waiting. Frustrating thing was, they served him!!!!!

Went there this Sunday for lunch ..although the food was good and good value for money .. The service was terrible ..waited at bar for ages to be served the bar was not busy . The staff just seem to ignore you .. And they are very chaotic...and one of the men serving you your food looks like he needs a good wash and got to smarten himself up . The pub does put on good music..but in my opinion the staff need to organise themselves much better. Was a bit like faulty towers with out the laughs.

We had a lovely stay overnight at the little chalet after arriving by ferry from Dover. Sholden is just a short drive away and the Sportsman has private parking, which was perfect. The room was furnished comfortably and we slept very well. Everything was clean and fresh linen and towels as well as some toiletries and tea were provided. The adjacent pub seemed lovely and seemed to host a trivia night when we arrived, unfortunately we were just too tired from the trip to join. There are corn fields just a few minutes away, which was perfect for walking our dog in the morning.

Often visit with the family for food and drinks when we are in the area. Today’s visit was just as good as always. Food was delicious - especially the new fish burger and the hot chocolate fudge cake! The teams hospitality are second to none and couldn’t recommend the pub more!!

We stayed in one of the excellent chalets in the pub garden ,with a fully equipped kitchen. A wonderful power shower. Bath towels the size of bed sheets great accommodation And something always going on in the bar , the wonderful food was only suppased By the friendly service

Anne and Ger have achieved so much in the last few weeks to transform the Sportsman from a virtual derilict building into a fantastic, welcoming, local pub. Well done you guys and also to all the people who helped you achieve it. Looking forward to all your success, you deserve it. Fi x

Friendly staff and great atmosphere food good value for money drinks also reasonable.

My family and myself booked for Sunday lunch. My group had some fussy eaters who wished to amend the menu, however this wasn’t a problem. The food arrived quickly, was hot and freshly cooked and very generous portions. The desserts were also delicious. If you wish to treat yourself to a pub roast I highly recommend the Sportsman for good service, attention to detail, delicious food, generous portions and most of all amazing value for money.

I’ve been here a number of times for Sunday lunch and was here again on 19 May 24 for Sunday lunch with friends and family. Food was excellent, and the ladies behind the bar and waiting were all lovely and really friendly. Got the bill at the end and I paid for myself, my partner and step daughter, and my daughter and her partner and including the beer id ordered while at the table, it came to £65. Amazing value for money. The land lord and land lady are really welcoming and run an amazing establishment. The pub is dog friendly (so long as they are well behaved) and child friendly too (so long as they’re well behaved !!!) They have a lovely beer garden out the back and live music on Sunday afternoons as well. Well worth a visit in my opinion.

Cant fault it. Being a Bar Manager myself, I can't get out to other venus much. Had a wonderful night with good friends. The Barmaid was throughly professionally. Lovely pub. Definitely recommend it.

Came in a party of 11. The food was lovely and we all got our meals placed at the same time. The staff was lovely

Came here for my birthday night with family and friends. They had a karaoke night. Absolutely amazing. The young Irish guy serving was absolutely brilliant. Funny. And nothing was to much trouble. Apparently he was the owners son. AMAZING GUY. X PETE X

Lovely Sunday lunch quality service and reasonably priced.

Visited today for my dad's birthday with 4 adults and 2 young children. Wow. This place was brilliant. Food absolutely delicious every meal. My mum commented it was a long time since she's had a ploughman's done so well, my partner had the liver and is quite discerning on it and said it's the best he's had in a restaurant. Such reasonable prices and brilliant food. Thank you! My only complaint is I now can't move for being so full of food!

Went there today with a friend for lunch. Waited to be served for a drink when we entered and the lady behind the bar did everything she could to avoid us even though she knew we were there.After waiting almost 10 mins she then served someone else who had just got to the bar for a refill so we walked out and will not be returning or recommending. Disgusting service.

Lovely roast dinner. 1st visit today as I couldn’t get into The pine gardens. I will definitely return. Nicely cooked food, fresh veg and a good choice of puddings. Hope to see you soon. Kellyanne 👍
