Spire’s Cafe - true hospitality. It’s not modern or has amazing decor. It’s an old church, converted into a cafe. We left our airb&b and walked around Deal and couldn’t find one that could set all 9 of us until we chanced upon Spire’s Cafe at 11am still serving breakfast!! The lady showed us into a side room. Yes, it has mismatched furniture (but I’d gladly bring home one of the dining tables which is most likely an antique!). We were served a full English breakfast with coffee (latte, cappuccino or whatever is your favourite) or tea. Then we were gifted with Bubble & Squeek!! (For those of us not familiar with this, it’s basically fried vegetables - potatoes, cauliflower, broccoli - or any leftover vegetables). And all just £8 each. Add £2 for two pieces of hash brown!

It’s an extremely tired premises, gloomy inside and old, worn, mismatched cushions and chairs on a cigarette strewn area outside. There was a lot of older gentlemen smoking and drinking at the associated pub which was off-putting too. The food was cheap and surprisingly ok but it wasn’t enough to compete with the grotty atmosphere.

Much missed during the full lockdown the cafe is now known as the Landmark, like the building. You can still find it from the church spires. Tables for two to eight diners with anything from coffee and soft drinks to a full roast. I chose the title because they follow the English tradition of letting YOU choose what flavours to add from sachets, rather than yes you will like beetroot juice on your lettuce. Waitress service and all meals are prepared fresh, hence there can be a wait if busy. Closed Mondays.. Off the cafe is Radio Deal and the toilets are to the rear of the kitchen, one at a timer.

Had my 2nd visit to this cafe yesterday and yet again I can't believe how good it is and also excellent value for money . I had 3 sausages with mashed potato and gravy , with mixed vegetables that were all cooked just right . I then had Apple crumble with custard for dessert ... All of this for a bargain £6 !!!! How do they do it for this money ???? It goes without saying ( but I will. Lol ) that this is a current secret and jewel in Deal High Street . Next time that you are shopping nearby ,give it a try and not just take my word for it ! You won't regret it !

So nice to find a place for the locals, and what a difference it makes to the bill!! Local artists use the walls here to display their pictures. Staff were very helpful and how they manage to produce home cooked food to that standard for the price is mind blowing, I gather this is a relatively recent offering..........a starter and a main course for £6. Must be the best value in Deal. It is in a community centre where there are rooms for hire and lots going on. Nice garden in summertime where there were people playing instruments and singing while I had my lunch! I had one of the best Roast beef dinners ever (very tender) followed by a homemade Rhubarb crumble....absolutely divine! Was torn between the crumble and the Greek yoghurt with honey and strawberry's!!! I'll have to go back to try that next time!! I was told the menu changes daily as they cook everything fresh to order. Unfortunately I was driving or I could have had a glass of vino brought to me from the bar next door!!

Dropped in for a late lunch. Chicken Dippers, beans and chips was OK. Bacon sandwich was good and crispy. But the vegetable soup was a bit odd: whole potatoes and chunks of cabbage, stewed up and almost devoid of flavour. Obviously home-made, but possibly by somebody who had their taste buds shot off during the war.We asked if they allowed dogs, and they said they were only allowed to sit at tables without tablecloths. I asked the dog and she didn't really mind.Note to Tripadvisor: it would be incredibly useful if you could have a tickbox saying whether dogs are allowed!

My wife and I had a very pleasant stop for tea and cakes here whilst on a visit to Deal. It has the added advantage of housing the tourist office so you can browse the brochures as you eat and drink. The home made cakes were tasty and it was reasonably priced. Of course in Deal one can take tea in a different place every day for several weeks but we enjoyed The Spires Cafe.

Upon entering La Salle Verte I found myself in a state of confusion, I was not in a green room after all, instead I was in a well presented Cafe in the heart of Dover. I was greeted by smiley faces which is rare to see in such a glum town. The humans who run this place truly do appear joyful and welcoming. Their hot drinks were very good, packed with flavour and somewhat orgasmic from the moment it smoothly runs along the tastebuds, this state of mind tragically came to an end all to soon (unlike me.) The idea of crisps as a side to acompany made me smile inside, this inner smile soon became a storm when I ate them though, it appears these crisps could have been from a bag opened in my childhood, possibly even years before in the 1980s.

The sun was shining so we decided to try Whitemills Kitchen for an Al fresco lunch. My husband and I had the chicken and ribs sharer and it was stunning. Succulent juicy ribs and chicken with corn, coleslaw and a large bowl of fries and all washed down with a nice cold glass of wine. The staff are excellent and we really enjoyed watching the wakeboarding. We will definitely return.
