Go have one of Chef Charlotte’s tasty Stag Burgers at this truly pubby pub with one of the best views from the dining room of the beautiful rolling Bucks countryside. Good pint of Rebellion here, too! **UPDATE** Amazing lamb Sunday Roast! Super cheesy cauliflower, roast carrots, light but crispy yorkie, porky savoury stuffing, good gravy, cabbage, parsnips & roasties. Very reasonable, too!

We visited the pub yesterday evening (20/06) and found it quite disappointing. Upon arrival we weren't greeted by the bar staff who came across rude and unprofessional. We found ourselves a table and went up to the bar to order food and drinks. This, however, proved quite hard as the bar was left unattended for long periods of time even though there were a number of people standing at the bar waiting to order. The barmaid eventually returned but was more interested in loading the dishwasher and conversating with other customers before serving anyone waiting. When the food finally arrived it was very dry as if it had been left heated in the kitchen for a while prior to serving. We were never given or offered any condiments for our meals. It then took around an hour for them to clear our dirty plates. We were interested in having dessert however we were never offered a dessert menu so we had to approach the bar and ask ourselves. The pub itself is ok but the management could be better and the staff more attentive. The only real pleasant thing in there is the view from the garden.

We visited early evening, midweek, on a fairly miserable day. The Stag was quiet, understandably. However, the view to the rear of the pub was exceptional, with a covered area to sit outside. The interior was clear and tidy, no sticky tables! The Rebellion IPA was exactly as it should be. I compared by visiting the Rebellion Brewery in Marlow and sampling it at source, more than a few times. I am reliably informed that the Pino Grigio was also very good. The food was freshly cooked and excellent. The triple cooked chips were especially moreish. An enjoyable evening with good food, decent beer, and a nice view. Can't really go wrong here!

The most unpleasant experience I have had in any pub. Parents drinking at the bar with loud voices, children whizzing around the pub on scooters and going in and out of the door to the garden leaving the door open. Dogs running around chasing each other annd even jumping up at our table. I ordered the shredded lamb which was very over cooked (probably out in the microwave with the leather hard wraps which were inedible) and the lamb was cold, uninspiring couscous. Definitely overpriced. The owner/bar lady should have definitely told these people to control children and animals - she has lost our custom

Booked Sunday lunch for 4 people. Place was empty when we arrived at mid day. Lovely looking bar and restaurant, a warm welcome received, and our drinks were promptly served. Sunday lunch ordered, 3 Beef and 1 chicken. It went downhill after that.... It took 45 minutes for our meals to arrive. The 3 x sliced beef were sinewy and chewy and the chicken was more like a small chick. Cauliflower cheese and stuffing were at an extra charge (!) and the undercooked cabbage not so much al dente as al dentist! Very disappointing dining experience.

A very limited menu. I chose the pizza which I enjoyed, my wife chose the fish and chips which she didn’t enjoy. The fish was very dry and overcooked. One of our party chose the salmon fillet with salad, she paid £8 for a bowl of green salad and £8 for the salmon fillet, she considered this much too expensive for what she had. It was very cold in the pub. There were 9 of us in our party and we meet once a month we were hoping to use the Stag every month, but we probably won’t after today’s experience.

What a let down... We used to come to this pub many years ago (pre-children) and always had a nice time. The food was good and the place was always busy. However we stopped coming after a bad experience with some truly awful good/service. Now several years on we thought we'd give the place another go as it was a sunny Saturday and we know the beer garden offers shade, stunning views and a play area for the kids. We arrived just after the pub opened and ordered a drink - all good so far. We were told that the normal menu wasn't on as they were having an all day BBQ - not a problem and so we ordered the Cheese Burger & Fries (£11) and Chicken Burger & Fries plus Cod Goujons for our son. What we were served was not good. Firstly, they were having trouble lighting the BBQ but somehow our food still arrived before they got it going... Clearly the food was cooked in the kitchen instead but nothing was said when they served it, nor were we given the option to wait until they lit the BBQ. The food itself was frankly a rip off - the Cheese Burger consisted of a beef party, slice of cheese, bun and some chips. Not a shred of lettuce or tomato or sauce, nothing else. Honestly, I've paid less and had more from a car park burger van! It was the same with the Chicken Burger - chicken, a bun and some chips. I wish we'd taken photos but I got distracted and only remembered when we finished eating. FYI, the photo is off the serving boxes that the food came in (remind you of any car park burger vans...) Unsurprisingly the pub was not very busy which, given the location and views plus the weather that day, was initially surprising but understandable based on our experience. For comparison the Bounty in Bourne End that we had lunch at the week before had a half full beer garden 30 minutes before they opened! Good things to say about the pub were a pretty decent selection of drinks, the previously mentioned views and the kids play area (although that needs some TLC). Sadly though I do not see us going back and suspect that in a few years those views will only be enjoyed from the balconies of the flats that get developed on the land.

We went last night with friends . WOULD NOT recommend it. The food was NOT GOOD at all. We ordered the sharing meat platter as a starter. It was literally salami and ham out of a packet like the sort you would buy from the supermarket and the roasted veg that came with it was freezing cold straight out of the fridge and unbelievably salty . We did mention this to the lady behind the bar and she did change it for us to another one which was less salty but still salty . I had mackerel pate and my husband had pizza 🍕 both of which were very salty . We mentioned this again to the same lady who said it was a new chef in who was training …… It’s a shame as the pub is in a lovely location for a meal/drink with beautiful views but we wouldn’t go back nor would we recommend if we were asked to

All meals were cooked well and tasted great. Good portion sizes and came out fairly quickly. Prices for both food and drinks are not too overpriced. There's a garden area overlooking countryside which is lovely and a small fenced off play area which I would say is aimed more at slightly older children. Car park out the front with a fair few spaces. Service was great and staff were friendly throughout. Dog bowls placed outside so can assume dog friendly too. Only downfall I'd say is the lack of accessibility for people in wheelchairs. Baby change unit available but only inside the women's toilets not separate.
