Duke of Clarence in Wycombe

I visited the Duke of Clarence a few months ago and had a very average experience, service was slow and the I had to send my food back twice. We were back in the area on Saturday and decided to give it another go and we are so pleased we did! I had the crab linguine and my partner had the chicken burger and we couldn't fault either; the food was extremely flavoursome and the service very accommodating - I can only assume there's been a change in staff, but big compliments to the chef! Look forward to coming back soon!

Lovely, warm, cosy bar a lot of seating both inside and out. Gets very busy in the evening almost turns into a “nightclub”, with a great selection of music. Only downside is having to walk through the dance floor to get a drink/go to the toilet, feels like an accident waiting to happen. Overall very nice bar.

Had exceptional service today from Alex. What a lovely friendly young lady she is. Alex made areal fuss over my puppy Quincy. Giving him water and cuddles. 5 star service from Alex. Thank you for your warm welcomev

Nice place for a pint and a bit to eat

Value for money I would score very low, had the ‘chicken skewers’ as described on the menu. Received 1 chicken skewer, which had a very small amount of chicken, I would say less than 1 chicken breast. This was served with rice which was very under seasoned and overcooked broccoli which tasted off, all for the sum of £16.50. Suffice to say I won’t be eating here again.

Beautiful place. Love the decor. Haven't eaten here yet but would definitely return. Love the shuffle board 😉

We frequently visit Marlow and have walked past numerous times however only came in for the first time last month. We were so impressed with the atmosphere, good beer selection, the garden out the back is a perfect spot for lunch in the sun, food was amazing! Some interesting choices and things you dont always see and all good quality. We will definitely return we loved it!

Would've scored a bit higher if not for the awful service we received by the bar staff on Saturday. The 2 stars are for the other staff serving the food. Ordered a drink, and it was so watery. I took it back only to be accused of drinking half, so it must've been ok even though the glass was still pretty full. Didn't come for an argument by bar staff that's too busy taking photos with drinks they've made rather than serving customers

I wanted to share an appraisal of the food. I had chicken and avocado roll. The chicken was hardly there. No chunks but tiny pieces which were mainly crumb coated which made it worse. There was more crumb than chicken. The avocado was a little mashed splattering, no slices. Not good value and not a good product.

We went to watch football and booked a booth. The boys bought two and four pint jugs of beer. I had a cask ale which I enjoyed until one of the boys accidentally knocked it over. Great atmosphere for watching sport.

Very very enjoyed that place. The service is outstanding and the food and alcohol beverages really high class. This is a place for parties.

Lovely food and service. Just one complaint they didn't have my drink of southern comfort. So they gave me a jack Daniels. They should have told me they didn't have Soco. , and let me choose something else. Instead of just thinking I wouldn't know the difference.

I have been there twice, the second time being today and the place is amazing with high quality food for a low price and a lot of different options for food and drinks so I would definitely recommend visiting the place!

I really like this pub, great drinks selection and very roomy. Went on the day of Pub in the Park and had a great atmosphere. Def recommend coming here with a group of friends.

No nonsense pub/bar, decent selection of beers and reasonably priced modern pub food. Steak wasn't cooked how I asked it to be but was still very tasty and they said sorry with a free beer so can't knock them! Good for gluten free with plenty of options at good prices (see GF menu attached) straightforward modern pub fare

A fantastic experience at the Duke of Clarence with warm table service. A friendly bar team and generally great atmosphere to drink or eat. I had their beef burger with chips and the flavours were exploding. Compliments to the kitchen team for sure!

Popped in for lunch and was pleased we did, had a nice vibe. We played Shuffle Board while we waited for our food which was fun. Staff were friendly and food was nice.

Reserved a couple of tables to celebrate my 32nd birthday with family and friends. Preordered some food platters and had (quite a few!) drinks. The service was great, the team very accommodating, and the DJ played a good mix of genres and happily took requests. As a mixed age group, we all had a great night celebrating till 2am. Thank you

30th March 2024 - I NEVER want to go to this venue again!!!! A group of friends went out for my birthday we were all 50+ enjoying ourselves 8 in the party. Two of our party went to the side of our table to have a sensitive discussion about a friend and a Security man pushed our friend spilling red wine down his white top. When asked politely why the Security man went from zero to 100 with attitude. He was a large man and tried to intimidate us all said he was going to throw our friends out. Was so upsetting. Meanwhile a glass had been broken on the dance floor he was busy being aggressive with us for his mistake. No apology or offer to clean the top was made. So sad as I always love going to Marlow and this venue. Shame but just not the same fun place I remember. I thought Security was meant to resolve issues not cause them. 😟

Good food, sampled the small plates, catered for being Coeliac too. Very friendly bar staff, great atmosphere too!!

Went in for a quick drink and was greated by a very friendly barman, the bar was quite as it was a Sunday evening but the music was good and the beer was tasty.

Appalling, the chicken in my starter was raw.our starter arrived promptly,Two of my party ordered there food on the app which came promptly but the starter and main came out at the same time. they sat waiting for our main course to arrive, it took nearly a hour for it to arrive so there food got cold even though I encouraged them to eat theirs but they didn’t want to as we were in a party of 8 for my wife’s birthday. viewing the meal steak, it must have been a 4oz steak for £14.50. To be fair the staff were very good. We have been invited to a big birthday party at the venue next month that we were looking forward to but after last night we have decided never to go to the Duke of Clarence Marlow ever again

We had a private party at the Duke of Clarence for my husband’s 40th birthday party at the weekend. We had a large group of 40 with an even split of adults and kids. The Duke was the perfect venue for a large group this size. The staff were superb. Harry the general manager got the area set up for us for it was sectioned off and private. The tab service worked perfectly for our group booking. The food was delicious and well presented. Nothing was too much trouble with our booking and Harry, Carl and his team really looked after us. Highly recommend !

We have booked the Duke of Clarence a couple times now for our company end of quarter drinks. The service right from booking through to the event is great. Good communication and catering for our needs. It's a great venue with a good atmosphere and the buffet selection offers all the classics but done really well and super tasty. We will definitely be back.

Had 6 of the small plates off the menu to share between 2. Reasonably priced and all were hot and very tasty, no complaints. The pub itself is nicely decorated with friendly welcoming staff. No hesitation in recommending for a bite to eat or just a drink

The Duke of Clarence pub on Marlow High Street is a large open and spacious venue. Plenty of seating with booths and round tables and a decked beer garden out the back with even more space. Also a bar in the back garden. I went on a Sunday in January and it was very quiet but friends we were with have been often and said it gets rammed. Nice place and definitely going back next month on a Saturday to see just how busy and lively it gets. Bar staff were polite and friendly. Good vibe.

Great customer service, good selection of drinks,a bit overpriced, but that is also a good thing as many people can't afford to get drunk. See you soon again guys .

Despite there being three members of staff behind the bar and only one other customer being served, me and my pal were effectively ignored by the 2 other bar staff for 10 minutes. We decided to head over the road to the Chequers where we were served straight away and had a good catch up. Sometime these things happen for a reason..

Never written a review before but this experience warrants it. I’ve net some pretty bad bouncers but never worse than the brunette female bouncer who worked on Saturday 2nd Dec. Refused to get some water for my friend who’d had too much and was physically aggressive kicking us out despite not being met with aggression whatsoever from anyone from our group. Bouncers jobs are to protect, especially girls protecting girls. She shouldn’t be in that job if she can’t fulfill the basic role of a security guard. It’s a shame as well as you don’t get many female bouncers and we felt comfortable being at the place at first because of this, but she was the worst out of all that worked that night. Seems to be a running theme reading other reviews that this place can’t choose the right bouncers. Apart from the one called James who made sure we were ok when outside. Threatened with being banned, rest assured we will never be coming back :)

We went to the Duke of Clarence, Marlow for my Niece's birthday celebration lunch. There was 14 of us, with mixture of ages, including babies and toddlers. We popped into the pub at 10.00 to drop off Birthday cakes, where we met Caroline. She was very helpful and immediately offered to take the cakes from us and put in their fridge. We left to do some shopping and then returned for 12.00. Lunch had been pre-ordered 2 days previously with a time to eat at 12.30. One of my nieces was caught in traffic, so we spoke to Caroline and she agreed to delay the food for 10/15 minutes, however as the children were getting cranky she said she could get the kids food done first. Caroline was so helpful and provided excellent service 'above and beyond'. Lastly she was accommodating for the presentation of the birthday cake. We agreed a time, then couple members of family disappeared to move their cars. Caroline saw them go, so came to me and she suggested to delay the cake, which again was no issue. So a big thank you to Caroline for making our birthday celebration go so smoothly. Helen - Auntie to Hayley - the birthday girl.

Came with a group of pals for Sunday drinks. They had live entertainment which although good, was quite loud. So it was hard to catch up with friends over a pint. They also stop making mixed drinks after a certain time which was odd - but we kept the other drinks flowing. The food was very good though and reasonable prices.

We popped into here for a 241 cocktail. The staff were welcoming and friendly providing a good service. The restaurant was clean and attractive. We went early evening so there were plenty of free tables. I would imagine it has a buzzing vibe at the weekend. There's free on street parking outside. The cocktails were delicious. A nice place to visit.

I lost my phone. I asked the bar 5!!! Times and every time they didn’t even bother to look. Luckily one bouncer looked and it was right in front of them. What a AWFUL bar team they couldn’t even take 3 seconds to look and save me the stress of a lost phone when I had been waiting at the bar for 15 minutes a time.

Service was very efficient and personal, lighting and atmosphere spot on and friendly welcome as we entered and a genuine goodbye as we left Will definitely be telling all my friends of this gem on Marlow high street

We were passing through the area, so took the opportunity to meet up with our son who lives in High Wycombe. First time visiting, we weren't sure what to expect, but had a lovely evening. We had a friendly warm welcome when we arrived, the interaction with staff throughout our visit was great, all very cheerful and helpful. The food was great, can definitely recommend sharing a selection of the small plates, we did this as a starter, all beautifully cooked and very tasty. Our steaks too were cooked just as we asked and great value. We were early in the evening so didn't experience the night time vibe, so can't comment on that but door staff just starting as we left, they were all very friendly too. We will definitely visit again the next time we are in the area

As there were only us and another table took over 30 mins to get a breakfast,. We were advised the chef was on his own, but I still can't understand how it can take that long to cook some bacon and eggs. I recommended this pub to my friends and how good it was felt rather embarrassed, to be honest.

Visiting the area. Came in early evening for a quick bite and drinks. Food came quickly and was exactly as requested (fussy eater). Had a good chat with the manager on shift (forgot name sorry!) Will definitely come back for a proper night out when I'm back up!

Called today 18th aug 2023. 7.30pm.(just for reference for who answered the phone). to ask if my 17 year old son would be OK to eat there with another person. Condescending answer from the person that picked up the phone. I was only asking a question as my son wanted to take his girlfriend there for dinner. As it says bar in the title of the name of the restaurant, he didn't want to turn up and get turned away. I was disgusted at the way the person spoke to me on the phone. Like I was an idiot. He repeated what I said like he was making it heard to other people. Change your staff or give them training on how to speak to people. I have eaten here before with my partner and really enjoyed it, 5 stars! That's why I recommended here for my son to take his girlfriend. I've never been so annoyed by a 30 second phone call in my life.

Sadly two attempts at getting my order right was enough for me to loose my appetite. By which stage everyone in my group had finished eating. Manager did apologise and offer me an alternative and no charge.

Having run pubs and restaurants for over 20 years I can honestly say this place in an absolute shambles of a business. Not a single member of staff behind the bar knew what they were doing. They've obviously had zero training and looked completely lost using the till. The manager on duty was hiding away on the pass and did nothing to help. I waited for about 15/20 minutes to get a drink and watched at least 3 groups at the bar give up and walk out. Places like this go out of business all the time because they can't get the basics right.

Really good place to have a drink and chill with friends. However not so good on the allergens front. Food came out with ingredients we told staff we were allergic to. They were really apologetic though and offered all food again

Came across this place on a visit to Marlow. Lovely staff. I have a few alergies, theree was nt much choice on the menu for dairy free and gluten intolerance. I spoke to a member of staff and the chef Demetry and they made me a lovely lunch as id asked if i could swap over ingredients. It was absolutely delicious, salmon was cooked to perfection. I would only say that they should add a few choices for vegans and gluten free. My partner had the burger and he thoroughly enjoyed it. We defently will come back. Great prices. Lovely garden area out the back.

Popped into the Duke of Clarence on a busy Friday evening. Server found and cleaned us a table and took our order quickly. Food was really tasty, we had CURRIED CAULIFLOWER WINGS, HALLOUMI FRIES, TEMPURA PADRON PEPPERS, TORCHED ROSARY GOAT’S CHEESE and Nachos. Wine was good and there was a good atmosphere. We didn't stay late, but there were courteous door staff on duty when we left. Definitely recommend for a good vegetarian dinner. 👍

We’ve eaten here previously and enjoyed. Recent visit was disappointing. We booked and on arrival staff pointed to our table. Last time we had really good table service. We weren’t told we now needed to go to the bar to order food and drinks so sat waiting until we realised! Had to ask for menus after 20 minutes. Menu much smaller than previously. Food was very average pub grub. Probably ok for a drink but wouldn’t go back for a meal.

Stopped in the Duke of Clarence for lunch on a day visit to Marlow. The decor is great, the staff were engaging but very relaxed and the food was just great. Highly recommend this pub.

Went to Marlow for a friend's birthday hadn't been for a while had a great time lovely area. We decided to pop into nearest pub and what a surprise big open area, seating well set out. Staff very attentive and friendly drink choice good. Had a look around and found a garden area which was also well laid out. Felt relaxed and chose to eat as food looked good, I picked the burger and it was very good and my friends also enjoyed their food. Spoke to the landlord and future wife very friendly couple and had a good laugh with them.

Visited this excellent place a year ago. Very good good choice, excellent sitting area and very good and helpful staff. Well done people. Keep it and I hope to visit again soon. Loved the ambience, even kids loved the place which is very important.

Door staff aggressive and incompetent. Manager scared of his door team! Very disappointing experience.

Stopped for lunch and loved it. Inside is super cool, but still comfy and plenty of space. Opted for a chicken and bacon burger, they have a deal in a Wednesday with burgers. It was delicious! My friend had the beetroot burger which was also great. Highly recommend.

I was in Marlow for a surprise birthday treat and my partner and I popped in for a quick drink at lunchtime whilst exploring the town. The service was efficient and we enjoyed our drinks in the garden area. We liked the place so much we popped back in the evening. There was a DJ playing a wide range of music and the place had a real party atmosphere. Loved it and would definitely recommend.

We were visiting Marlow for a special occasion. Popped into the Duke of Clarence on our exploration of the town and found the quality of decor, staff and service to be excellent. We enjoyed it so much that later on in evening we popped in for some post dinner drinks. Definitely on my list of places to visit again.

Popped in on the bank holiday sunday evening. Had a welcoming lovely chat with the door staff (Stuart and Celine hope I got the names right 😁) sat in the garden equipped with heat lamps and enjoyed a couple of drinks and a catch up with friends.

We have been attending this pub for years, and never had a problem until tonight. Small, blonde, female bouncer was incredible rude and accused me of being abusive for no reason. Said I was abusive because I asked when the new no hoodie rule was introduced as I went recently and it wasn’t an issue. Took my hoodie off and then was refused entry, I was in no way rude and have never experienced a bouncer like her. Won’t be going here again while she’s on the door!

The blonde woman bouncer , is incredibly rude, aggressive and under- qualified, she had taken my friends real ID and claimed it was fake, even after we had went back to bring her passport . They had refused to give her her ID back and now she has to go to the trouble to collect it from the police. Clearly under- qualified in checking IDs and just prejudice, if they don’t like the look of you won’t get in and could get your real ID taken from you ! Don't know why she's still allowed to be working here after seeing other reviews where many people have faced the same issues with her. New management gone downhill and have refused to help and do anything about the situation.

Ate here on Friday for lunch. Service and setting was very good however the steak sandwich was shocking. How could a reasonable competent chef allow to place a fatty piece of steak on a small sandwich not knowing that the customer would cut the fat...

Used to be a great night out but whoever has taken over has ruined it tbh. Its gone so down hill especially with the new bouncer. She is no where near as nice as the last, is incredibly rude and disrespectful to and doesnt follow the rules the bar sets, she picks and chooses, she will ever make you throw away items that are allowed in if she doesnt like the look of you. Plus theres less and less people in their now so the vive and atmosphere isnt as good as it used to be. An hour and a half queue and its not worth it. Might aswell go old brewery

Have been a couple of Saturdays in a row and always find it busy and a great atmosphere, was in the que last Saturday 1st when we saw the hassle through the window and the police turning up, thought is was going to be one of those nights however once inside felt safe and looked after by all staff from the quick, friendly service at the bar, to the DJ taking our requests and actually playing them and even the door staff, although they had a little change around and the crazy friendly one was on the door, not inside sweeping up the broken glass or wondering round like he enjoying himself at work. But the ladies in our group did like seeing the Aquaman stunt double they have working. We'll see you again this weekend im sure.
