Food is top notch and service is friendly. Prices were good too. Will definitely be back if we are in the area again.

This used to be our 'go-to' restaurant, but sadly has lost our custom. We had one poor experience there last year and decided to try it again to give it another chance as it could have been a bad night. Visited several months ago - We reserved a place for early dinner with friends who had been there before. After being seated, we were rushed, asked us to order right away, told they expected to be full and they would need the table. Sub-par ingredients, apple sauce missing from the dish I ordered so I requested it. A small amount was provided, however it wasn't apple sauce, it was sweet sticky apple pie type filling. Everyone in our party was underwhelmed with the food. We left in 90 minutes and only one party had arrived, they were seated adjacent to us in spite of all the space available. Not a pleasant visit for a relaxing meal with friends. People who we had previously recommended to eat there have mentioned similar circumstances. The man who spoke to us about how full they were with bookings was borderline rude. How sad that one of our long standing favourites has become a disappointment.

We have been here a number of times and the staff are great and food has always been good but today my wife and I we went for a Sunday Roast and it was well below our expectations. The Roast beef was raw and we both had trouble cutting it. Although we are not partial to al dent vegetables we do tolerate them but these were hard and not cooked. The gravy was thin and tasteless. We won't be rushing back.

Such a lovely experience here. The lady who served us was super friendly and aided us with the menu (one of our party is GF). Great and varied menu with fair pricing. I opted for the Sussex Smokie for starter. Such an interesting dish and despite living in Sussex all my life, have never seen it on a pub menu before. Then went for the Trio of Pork for main. All cooked well.

Mother’s Day 24….booked for 12.30 and we pre-ordered, trouble parking and it was rainy so muddy on the verges, the owner did kindly move his car so my son could park which was very nice of him! Food was good, plenty of it, too full for a pudding. Very good service too.

Best Macaroni Cheese I've had for a long time. A simple pleasure I know but simple things done exceptionally well are worthy of a mention. A very nice and congenial Pub too.

Overall a really pleasant evening, surprise birthday, the staff, service, food as an overall experience was really good. Starters, were amazing, cheese, prawns, bread all amazing, steak was cooked perfect, personally my burger was a little dry, but all in all we was very happy.

The Squirrel Inn, both interior and exterior, was well decorated. Arrived with a well lit spacious carpark. Loved the lights outside. We were greeted by a lovely lady who took us to the table, she was very friendly and chatty and made us feel very welcome. One of our party was gluten-free, and she went through all the options with us, which was extensive. The food was delicious, and the portions were generous. It was very relaxed and didn't feel rushed. Will definitely be coming back here again.

The Squirrel pub battle is my go to pub for great food at a reasonable price served by friendly helpful staff. I’ve never had a bad meal and the selection is really good. They always try to please and will cook to your tastes. The deserts are really yummy especially their homemade chocolate cake.

Food was good, found bit to expensive for what we had, service from the staff was shocking not happy staff, unfortunately we won't be returning to this restaurant.

UBER delivery of calvery roast and desert 👌 Sat on a Friday mid/late evening and decided a Sunday Roast and desert treat. I estimate for me to drive is 10 minutes away, it was delivered 12 minutes later. It was hot, there was so much portion both meal and desert, confidently packaged so I could eat straight away, I had my ordered gravy and extra Union gravy (no charge) the meats cooked to perfection, the roast potatoes crunchy, the veg cooked to perfection, that moderate hint of crunch so not steamed to death. The desert was simply perfection,the portion huge. So yes if you take into account the tip, user charge etc, you looking at a sit down on the premises food price, but let me tell you, I can cook, and if I put that on the table I would think I'd swam the channel. Superb service well done all the staff at the Squirrel. I order regularly and 99% of the time I would leave this same review, even when not quite on point which is super rare I finish having zero regrets I've ordered such is the quality from the Squirrel 👌

Really nice food (even for vegans)

Plenty of parking spaces. The food was great. Fresh vegetables and a lovely homemade chicken and leek pie. Also plenty of beers to choose from a well stocked bar. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and we'll definitely be back again

Had a lovely Christmas dinner evening menu for 8 work colleagues. Food was lovely & service at table for drinks & separate bills too. Made the evening easy when time to pay.

Xmas lunch but not any more. My pint of Longman's bitter was cloudy and tasted and smelt of yeast.. typically end of barrel...was advised that this normal was for this beer (wonder how Longman brewery view this comment as it is not my experience!. Only have been drinking bitter for 60 years so who am I to judge! My replacement pint of Harveys was clear as expected. As disabled was told their were no assisted rails in either of the gents toilets but advised the ladies was wider! My colleagues on paying the bill checked an found we had been overcharged for a starter so my advice is to check your bill: we had also been charged for the bad beer!! Hence will be giving this pub a wide berth in future.

A last minute booking and well worth it. We were made very welcome and service was very good. Salmon was excellent and cooked just as I like it, fish and chips were very good but personal preference would have been brown bread with softer butter. Homemade tartare sauce was lovely. Sticky toffee pudding for dessert, lots of sauce, perfect for us, just how we like it with nice and hot custard. Would I recommend, certainly.

We were on a short break a few miles away and visited The Squirrel as the notes in our holiday cottage indicated it was wheelchair accessible, which is critical for us. Went for dinner, big portions of high quality food at a more than reasonable price. Very friendly staff and we were so impressed we immediately booked for lunch a few days later and that was equally excellent. This place is a rare gem and locals are so lucky to have it.

We had a lovely lunch here at the start of our mid week break in Battle. We were made very welcome, had an excellent lunch, beautifully cooked and presented. Staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful.

Eleven of us met yesterday at a large family reunion. We had a lavish lunch and stayed quite a long time. We were well looked after by the staff and we ate lavishly. Indeed the portion sizes were huge. The food was nicely presented and the staff were attentive and pleasant.

The food was very bad and made me ill.couldn't eat it, under cooked Beware. Never again.don't go there.

Had a booking for 2pm for a family of 4 but were unable to park anywhere remotely close to the place as there were cars and vans everywhere. What made it harder was the fact that parking on the verge blocked visibility getting out onto a fast moving road. Very disappointed

Came down today with the wife for the fisrt time and have to say the food was lovely the Chinese starter for two was just the perfect amount and taste amazing. The wife had crab salad which she said was very tasty and I had the sirloin steaks done excalty how I like it blue which was perfect so all in for us the whole experience was great would highly recommend and the staff were very friendly which makes for a great afternoon lunch.

Great food and only dropped 1* as service was slow due to them being down two staff and two temps replaced them. Dog friendly. Kids play area is ok to entertain for a while.

Been here several times and always enjoy it. Food is in my opinion of the highest quality in the area. Had a really nice burger with side salad today. I chose not to have fries. The burger relish was exceptionally good. Service was spot on too.

Sat under the awning for an evening meal with the family and our dog. We all really enjoyed our meals, the staff were lovely, helpful and accommodating. Definitely recommend this pub but do check opening hours before you arrive. Can't comment on the interior but it looked cool with some vinyl on the walls :)

Stopped here for weekday dinner based on reviews. Everything was average - I had a prawn linguine and it was not great. Pasta sticky and pretty tasteless (including very sad samphire). I wonder if it had been left standing too long. Service was friendly and efficient. Maybe we just caught the kitchen on an off day.

Came down from London to visit my sister and 6 of us decided to book a table for 1.30pm but had car problems getting to the pub was late by 20 minutes but thought we were late they still managed to serve us. All of us were really impressed with the food and table service which was superb.

Had an excellent evening there while staying at a local campsite. Good food and excellent service. The landlord even offered to drop us off at the campsite after there were no cabs for a while! Hospitality at its finest!

We had been told that the food was amazing at The Squirrel, you must go, we were told! The car park is always full when we drive past, so it seems popular place to eat. So for my Step Dad's birthday we decided to give it a go.....there were 5 of us, 4 had roast dinner and 1 had ham, egg and chips. The roast dinners were distinctly poor.... minimum amount of vegetables, what seemed like deep fried roast potatoes, a cold Yorkshire pudding and the meat....well my Mum couldn't actually eat hers, both the turkey and beef were tough and stringy, the rest of us had a go at cutting and chewing the meat. My Mum was offered a extra slice of meat to replace the meat she couldn't eat but she declined. All condiments had to be asked for, even the salt and pepper. 5 main meals, 1 desert, 9 drinks came to £135 but £13.50 was added to the bill for service charge, ( you service charge was added onto the total of the bill but you don't have to pay it ) As a rule I never complain BUT in this instance we were so looking forward to eating there and that the food was so poor that I feel compelled to write this review. I am sorry to say we won't be returning.

On Saturday the 5th of August I was lucky enough to visit the Squirrel Pub with my friend, her mum and dad and her mum's brother. As we had never been before we had no idea what to expect but I can 100% assure people you will not be disappointed if you are lucky enough to dine there. We were seated quickly and our waitress took our drinks order returning shortly afterwards with the drinks. She took our food order and off she went, as each course arrived (with the perfect amount of time between each one) we were all in agreement that each and everyone of them were OUTSTANDING in that they were all perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned, perfectly portioned, cooked with care and attention from a team that obviously enjoy and love their work and understand the importance of seasonal products, timings and attention to detail. I was that impressed with my starter and main course that I couldn't decide between two deserts so I ordered both. What was even more impressive was whilst serving us they also had two very large groups dining at the same time as us and they could of easily paid us less attention while dealing with the larger groups but no we were extremely well looked after. My friend and I are hoping to dine there again in a couple of weeks if they have the availability but I assure you we will definitely dine at the Squirrel Pub again, it's one of those places that you want to keep a secret but realise that others deserve the right to experience it too. Many thanks to all of the staff for the excellent service and exceptional food.
