Had a great evening in this lovely community pub - delicious food which was beautifully presented and tasted amazing. Liver and mash is highly recommended if you like offal! Great selection of wines on offer. Room was fresh and comfy with glorious views. Well worth a visit when you’re in the area walking, bird watching or just fancy a pub meal. You won’t be disappointed. Stayed overnight to sample the sportsman inn beer fest. Room exceptionally clean and tidy compact and wonderful views. The inn has a really friendly atmosphere with locals giving visitors a friendly welcome, has the feel of a proper village inn, plenty of space to sit and eat in or outside with views i think you would struggle to better. I chose to eat a liver and bacon dish that was very pleasant no fuss great food. What more to want, friendly people, good food, great ales, and breathtaking views.

What a gem! Stopped here for a night whilst walking the South Downs Way, and received a very warm friendly welcome. The room was simply furnished, comfortable, very clean, with thoughtful extras provided. The menu for the evening meal was small but perfect for the end of a long day, and the food was the best we'd had in the week so far. The atmosphere was warm and we loved the unexpected open mic live music. Altogether a great find and would thoroughly recommend for a stop-over. Well done guys!

This pub is outstanding because of its views across Pulborough Brooks and deservedly so. On a summer’s evening this is the perfect place to chat with friends and watch the sun go down. The food is in the main of good quality. I can particularly recommend their home cooked pie of the day and some lovely puddings. Their burgers are not the best but perfectly acceptable. Prices are reasonable. The staff are friendly and helpful and the beer is well kept. Parking is limited but there is plenty of room in the country lane. It has literally been years since I have been so impressed with food in a pub. I stayed here last week with 2 cycling friends doing The South Downs Way, and the quality of the steak meal we (all) had was incredible. Homemade sticky toffee pudding to die for and fantastic local cheeses. The ingredients are all very high quality, locally sourced and beautifully home cooked. The peppercorn sauce was out of the this world! Even the fry up had top quality smoked bacon, sausages & artisan bread/toast. This is a pub that makes a BIG effort. I loved this place so much I drove 22 miles to take my family there yesterday for Sunday Roast, and we all enjoyed a truly 10/10 meal again. Sophie and her team are very charming, incredibly hospitable & lovely humour too. It is WELL worth the additional short drive outside of Amberley village to enjoy this gem - we will be back again!!

We booked for Saturday dinner, hoping for some proper English food, as advertised. The food was pretty bad, and each course took an hour to turn up. It also wasn’t cheap. Even trying to fill the time with drinking didn’t work, as drinks orders took a similar amount of time to arrive.

Gosh I wish we had pubs like this back home (Isle of Man). Quintessentially gorgeous English country tavern with views to die for. It was a family reunion dinner, and we were able to sit in the conservatory and admire the landscape. Table settings, service, food, prices - everything was excellent. The only thing stopping me for giving 5 stars was our request for a bottle of house wine. The young lady waiting on our table replied, "We don't actually have a house wine. But if it's the cheapest you're looking for …" Er, not quite the thing to say to paying guests!

I stayed at the Sportsman Inn when walking the South Downs Way. It's a bit of a walk off the trail, on the edge of Amberley, but not too far. My room was spacious and comfortable.

Had seen pub when driving past and looked at website and saw the views and food looked good so decided to take a punt when friends cam over from Australia. Eat in conservatory and food was excellent as was view. Very relaxed atmosphere and helpful staff. Will visit again

The Sportsman has had its ups and down in recent years but just now it seems to have got its act together. There is a great choice of beers, and the food is good modern pub food, reasonably priced and very tasty.

I cannot begin to tell you how poor our turkey christmas meal was today. The meal was luke warm. Turkey had no flavour; roast potatoes had been previously cooked and not reheated properly; vegetables were nothing to shout home about and service was very laid back to say the least. What was meant to be a most enjoyable family meal quite honestly was a huge disappointment. I would not return to this site again even if someone paid me.

Driven passed this pub at least 30 times on way to Gatwick over the years but never stopped. Visited on Thursday 26th September at 1:30pm. Reasonable sized car park with lots of spaces. Pub has oak beams which gives it a real traditional vibe. Didn’t book a table but was able to be seated straight away. Good choice on the menu. We had ciabatta baguettes (one halumi one sausage/onion) washed down with a Prosecco and a beer. Service good and baguettes only £9 each. View out the back of the pub over the South Downs is stunning! Worth knowing that last food orders are 2pm for lunch. Would definitely return.

Free entry to explore the marvellous gardens at Leonardslee when booking the Ultimate experience. A thorough wine tasting, brilliantly conducted by 'Simba', a true credit to his profession as a sommelier. Fabulous wines and that Sabre moment when the cork is 'popped', my friend did this with such distinction. An excellent, delicious Afternoon Tea followed, nothing waste much of a problem, photo opportunity, carrot cake a welcome extra but 'Simba' created the icing on the cake. Fantastic experience.

Every time I order the quality is always consistent. Particularly recommend the cookie doughs. Why go to a sloppy chain when you can support a fantastic independent!

Incredible menu of unusual combinations - hard to choose. Our food was delicious. Portions were enormous. Excellent service.
