A lovely village pub, passed by whilst we were cycling in the area and dropped in about 8:30pm. The landlord was just about to close up as it was a quiet night but stayed open just for us. Great service and a lovely peaceful location.

I must say that we were positively surprised by this pub. Stepping in felt like stepping in a time capsule back to 1999, which we liked. The pub looks like it has been lived in for a long time. It has a hidden decking facing the church which is much better then the one that faces the road. The food was surprisingly good even you can see that there are not a lot of people opt to eat there. A proper old school pub in a tiny village. I hope it survives.

I love a proper pub and this is a PROPER pub. My wife and I popped in on Saturday night for a couple of drinks before dinner. We were only visiting for one night and yet were treated with great hospitality. We were made extremely welcome by the landlord, landlady and locals. I had two things happen that I NEVER experienced in a pub before - the landlord proactively changed a beer that was fine but, as the last in the barrel, not as good as he clearly wanted it to be. He then put a new beer on and gave me a half on the house! A man who clearly loves his beer and values those who also love it! No wonder it's in the Good Beer Guide. I hope this pub thrives in the way this landlord and landlady deserve and that Rudgwick continues to have a proper pub for years to come.

This is the best burger I have found in a long time. Perfectly cooked, good food and not too expensive. Some burgers have too much filling and salad that you can't actually fit it in your mouth but they had put the onion rings on the side rather than on top. Some other burgers try to be a bit gourmet by adding fancy toppings. But if you're looking for a good beef burger with classic toppings without the stupid price tag go here. The service was brilliant, and my Mum loved the seafood platter which also looked delicious. In fact, the Seafood Platter looked so good that the couple we were talking to at the next table ordered it too.

Interesting 18th Century pub situated on a pronounced slope at the northern end of the village. Quite narrow too, as positioned between the road and church land at the rear. Plenty of parking opposite. We called in one weekday lunchtime and were the only partakers of food. The bar area looked quite cosy and was well-marshalled by a clearly very experienced lady. The separate dining area further along seemed roomier, but did look rather tired. Menu on offer had an ample selection of pub favourites, with the unexpected bonus of suet puddings. Whilst intrigued, we were after something rather lighter. My vegetable spring rolls and chips reminded me of student days grappling with a microwave. Mrs EPR's baked potato was a commendable monster, and happily awash with beans and grated cheese. She enjoyed it but didn't eat again until breakfast the following day!So job done; cheap, cheerful and filling lunch achieved successfully.

We stopped over with some friends while in the area and decided to have some food in this quirky little pub (it's proper beams and low ceilings). The owners were very understanding of dietary requirements and made us a yummy Sunday roast that was gluten free and dairy free. They checked everything and gave us a good size meal. Even the chips are gluten free so it was a proper slap up meal. The front part is dog friendly, a bonus for our party with several pooches on the day.

On my first return to my childhood village I was sorely let down by this pub. Probably serves fine as a drinker but very unwelcoming employee (landlord) being upset we used a bin. Bizarre. Rude to the point of embarassment but no apology. Decor tired. Healthy selection on tap, but the coffee was awful. And unsurprising only one other customer at lunchtime on a Saturday. The King's Head is an old quaint pub with bags of charm and character. The staff are friendly and very attentive and they carry a good range of reasonably priced dishes. Unfortunately we did not find our food particularly well cooked. The chips could have done with longer in the oven, the salad was wilted and two of the party ordered from the 'specials'. A liver and bacon casserole. The liver was cooked to a paste but the onions and carrots were rock hard ! Perhaps we were unlucky but next time I would choose sandwiches and a pint.

I love the pub, there is a lovely atmosphere and you get a great welcome, the decor is a little tired but that doesn't really matter, its a lovely pub. The food menu is good standard tradition pub food and homemade, I believe and is really tasty however, we have eaten there on a few occasions and I have found that most times my food is luke warm, the food is warmed up in the microwave you can hear the ping of it, which I don't have actually an issue with, because it is a small village pub that can only have a certain amount of staff. What I don't like is that its not reheated properly, I had the chilli which was hot on the outside and cool in the middle, I have also experienced this with my sunday lamp shank. Just a little attention to detail is required. On the plus side the ploughmans is great - rather a large plateful with a very spicy pickled onion. They just need to get the food standard up a little and I'm sure the place would be packed. It has a beautiful back decking area.

Family of 3 dining for dinner service, we had the set 3 course menu at £85. The setting is in the lovely South Lodge Hotel which is a grand 19th century manor. The restaurant itself has large windows and wood panelling. The service was polite an attentive even if all the staff didn't quite know what they were serving beyond some wrote memorisation. Despite a fixed course I was a little surprised that there were no amuse vouchers to appetise. We chose 3 of the starters. Beef tartare which was nice but a little heavy on the truffle which overpowered the steak. Crab agnolotti which an an overly tart tomato dressing. Scallops in an emulsion with peas and chipotle. Very nice but a small portion. Over all we give the 3 starters 7/10 Mains was 2 x duck breast with duck sausage. Duck itself was very nice yogether with the jus and beetroot. The sausage added nothing to this dish and lacked anything of interest. 8/10. The 3rd dish was john Dory fish served an overly tart gazpacho. It came with a nice squid arancini but unfortunately the fish was overcooked. 7/10 The desserts were a real let down although they sounded fantastic on paper. The basil cake was dry and heavy. The chocolate log, our son who had it, said tasted like an average m&s out of the freezer. 5/10 So quality we'd give 6.5/10. Value 5/10. Service 8/10. Overall it was nice enough but not outstanding, better execution required. Sadly we wouldn't recommend and would prefer to try out the other nearby Michelin restaurants

Unfortunately I was very disappointed with the food served to me I’d asked jacket potato with butter and no salad but it came with a salad okay I won’t eat the salad not a problem, unfortunately without checking for allergies they had sprinkled balsamic vinegar over the salad which seeped under the jacket potato so I couldn’t finish my meal and didn’t have the time to order again so I just left definitely not a good experience
