Delicious food, friendly staff...highly recommended

Nice pub, good food, worth waiting for. Service patchy but friendly. They need to update their ordering system to the 21st century. Writing things down and then losing the order isn't good enough!

We were a group of six and came for the Sunday roast. Waiters were nice but they got our orders wrong a couple of times, served the wrong Sunday roast sandwich and wrong ice cream. Other than that food was delicious and staff is friendly. Nice outside seating.

A wonderful pub with a great garden and excellent food. A big shout out to the manager who took his time with us to go through our allergies.

Had a brilliant evening at The Fox Inn, food was perfect, excellent service. Had the pleasure of meeting the owner Tristan and his lovely partner! Had a glass of Ukrainian Vodka. Such a wonderfully friendly atmosphere. Honestly best pub experience I’ve had in years 10/10. The duck, beef croquettes and satay chicken were my favs. Keep up the great work guys!

We had the pork and apple yorkshire pudding wrap delicious. The staff where very friendly and welcoming and we could take our dog's in with us they enjoyed it too.

The absolute best pub, delicious food, gorgeous garden, staff and resident pub dog on the West Sussex / Surrey border. Breaded Halloumi wrap with their salad and chips is fantastic.

The Fox Inn is located in the small village of Rudgwick and serves up the best homemade food whilst maintaining that village pub ambiance. We were down for the week on holiday visiting family in Brighton and they recommended we all go out for food here. They have seating available both inside and under a marquee in the garden which on a summer night felt brilliant, enjoying the evening air whilst eating some of the best food around! It is such a hidden gem in the countryside with lots to offer and staff being so friendly & welcoming, it really did make for a wonderful evening surrounded by family. There is something for everyone on the menu with half portions served for children, they haven't overpriced anything, it is all affordable and you definitely get what you pay for. They also have a small area for children to play in with picnic benches and the undercover marquee incase it does rain... or a thunderstorm in our case which happened the evening we were here, but the marquee kept us all dry and warm. Cant wait to be back down south again and will definitely be back!

I have to say that, without a doubt, today's Sunday roast was easily the best I've ever experienced at any pub. This was because of details like the quality of the meat, the impressive gravy and homemade attention such the bread and the Yorkshire pudding. There were five of us and everyone was very impressed.

Went there too early for food, as the kitchen starts at 6pm. So, we need to drink more beers. And the soup was niceee, just over grizzly. Had pork beef, it was nyuuum..and enough portion. Keep it up 💪🏽

I suppose pubs these days are in throws of just judging customers that walk through their doors as “ can we just come in and use your loo”. Came here as a pit stop in the way home, as it was a half way marker for us. Didn’t really receive a warm welcome, Maybe it was because the door I came in from was actually a fire door!? Than the main entrance. Went to the bar and was ignored by the bar tender. As a lady come by, couldn’t tell it she worked there or was a customer : “Are you alright?” - no Hello, no welcome just are you alright. We ordered some drinks , wasn’t offered a food menu , there were lots of cake displays with just one slice in them , nothing appealing ~ so we left.. Probably won’t return, seems like a locals pub and the locals keep it sort of vibe.

Staff were fantastic. Very welcoming & quick service. Only wanted a couple of salads which were nice & tasty. Lots of families taking advantage of the gardens & sunshine so quite noisy with children running around.

There is no doubt that this is a fantastic pub. It's welcoming, full of charm and the staff are friendly and attentive. This was my second visit and although it's not the nearest pub to me, it's well worth the trip. I have to say that finding a pub that serves the PERFECT SUNDAY ROAST has taken me years to find. The food here was spot on, including crispy roast potatoes and crackling, a fantastically cheesy cauliflower cheese, perfectly cooked vegetables and beautifully tender cuts of roast beef, pork and lamb. The portion sizes are generous and one cauliflower cheese is ample for two people and this also applies to the side order of Cumberland sausages. I can't wait to return and have no hesitation in recommending wholeheartedly this wonderful pub/restaurant 🦊

Very very limited menu the night we went . Would have been nice if we had been warned there was such little choice as we would have gone somewhere else . Very disappointed as booked to meet friends there who to not happy. Sorry

It has taken a long long time to find a pub that serves a Sunday roast worth recommending. At the Fox Inn it was perfect. We hadn't booked so it was a chance we took and it paid off. Next time we go we are definitely booking so we are not Disappointed. We arrived about 20 minutes after it opened and after we sat down it was a steady stream of people arriving. Definitely pre book if you can. The menu was a good mixture but I had the chicken breast roast and we also ordered the lamb roast. The food arrived in about 10 to 15 minutes. The food tasted great. Veg wasn't overcooked and the gravy was just right. Its the closest I've tried that matched home cooking. Thanks to the staff and we will be returning.

What a disappointment. Don’t cater for young children - not even baked beans. (No child menu) The starters we ordered were a real disappointment, Chicken wings tasteless, Halloumi cheese (the crumb bulky and unrefined). Duck extremely dry and an exorbitant price. Seems to have gone downhill rapidly. Has management changed ??? No familiar, friendly faces anymore.

Really lovely meal & family catch-up at The Fox Inn, for my bro & sis-in-law's anniversary (Bronze🥉& Gold🥇, respectively 😉) & her birthday 🎂 combined. This place is a good mid-way meeting point for we 6 & having eaten there once before, we knew it was a good choice & we weren't disappointed 😄. The food was all delicious (it was the Sunday menu) & the service was great, really attentive staff, despite it being a busy BH Mon lunchtime, they made it look easy - which we all know it defo isn't!! I'd defo recommend the lamb croquettes, my step-dad & I both really enjoyed them particularly (as did the others, as I was kind with my sharing 😇). Reasonably priced dishes too, for the quality 😋. We'll defo be going again soon 😊.

What a lovely pub. We came here after a nice walk and sat outside in the sun. The pub has amazing indoor, outdoor covered and uncovered space. Food was delicious and I have to give a special shout out to “česnečka” the czech garlic soup. Took me back to czech republic and was definitely 10/10. Plus any pub with games also scores extra points!

First time at the Fox inn, the food was amazing and tasty from starters to main, I just wish that I had space for the dessert but I was too full :). Good service fully recommend it.

Brilliant service, was outstanding and helpful. We just left London and was heading back to Worthing. Due to the M25 being closed. I popped and asked for a table. Me my wife and baby daughter. They provided us with a table and was super hospitable. The food was great and also great value for money. The waitress was also fair on tips and didn’t over charged us. Would definitely go again and give it a 5 star rating.

Booked a table for Mother's day ,looking forward to a lovely roast dinner,firstly we ordered roast beef and was told there wasn't any,so we ordered roast chicken,half an hour later we were told there was no chicken ,none of us eat pork or lamb,so we ended up with a mini sausage roast 😕when we asked for the bill they charged us for full roast dinners, clearly we were not happy with that and they did reduce the bill , cauliflower cheese was great by the way . I just don't understand how on a fully booked restaurant they had catered so inadequately. My children were so disappointed as they wanted to treat me to a special day. We won't be spending anymore money there 😞😞

Very unorganised. 30mins late to seat us and waited far too long for pudding. Need to organise busiest day of the year far better (Mother's day). Food average.

Came for late Sunday lunch on Mother’s Day. Despite having booked it weeks ago we waited 50 minutes for our table. At this point, we should’ve at least been offered a free drink. Sadly had to wait another 20 minutes to order. It was only when they came to take our order that they told us they had no beef or chicken, we should have been told this sooner. Very long wait for the food which when it came was lovely although portion sizes were very inconsistent. What went wrong today? They basically took too many bookings and couldn’t manage them. I felt sorry for the young staff working on the day, they did their best but had clearly been stitched up by poor management. I’ve eaten here before, and it’s always been lovely in the past.

Good menu, lovely environment, friendly staff. Plenty of parking. Good value. We are four friends who meet periodically in a location that works for all of us. Perfect place for us.

We had the lovelies experience at The Fox Inn last night for my birthday. Party of 15 and everything went off so well. Good was delicious, staff were friendly, food came out quickly and service was brilliant.

Brilliant food and lovely team, very conscientious. We had the confit duck which was perfectly cooked and the cassoulet, full of flavour. Definitely recommend and worth a visit

One of our favourite pubs in the area!! We’ve tried many, but always return back to this one! The food is incredible and such a variety, things you usually wouldn’t find elsewhere along with your pub classics. The pub in itself is beautiful, and has such a wonderful atmosphere. Would definitely recommend!! Perfect if you have a dog.

Lunch. Sandwiches were delicious, my friend had chips with his and I had Czech soup which was very tasty. Treacle tart for pudding was perfect too, not too sweet with vanilla ice cream. Great value and friendly service, thankyou

Brilliant pub ! We along with friends have been going here for years and it only gets better ! The whole team cater for everybody from couples to families to larger get togethers. The Christmas decorations inside and outside are the best in the area throughout December and really gets you in the festive spirit along with the carol singers. 8 of us ate there a couple of weeks ago and each course was delicious, We all had a great time. The staff are very attentive and friendly whilst always keeping an eye on everything. Even when the pub is incredibly busy the service is spot. All in all a fabulous asset to Rudgwick with a great atmosphere.

Awful Customer Service, worse ever experienced. My husband booked a table for 17 in October 2023 for my 60th birthday in December 2023. The week of the booking they phoned him to push back the time from 2pm to 2.30pm. We all arrived promptly, only for 17 of us to be kept waiting for over an hour in a cramped bar area, including 3 babies under 1 with buggies and 3 very young children! The children of course were hungry and tired and fed up. No consideration for us trying to manage 6 babies/children. At 3.30pm we were told a table was ready, it wasn't! They showed us to a cramped area and the tables weren't even arranged, we had to try and do this together with the young waitress. We were squashed in a tiny alcove, far too cramped for a party of adults and very young children with 3 buggies. They didn't clear away the starters before starting to serve the mains. They mixed up the drinks order. There weren't apparently enough plates for dessert of a cake my daughter had bought for us to share the special occasion. My daughter who suffers from anxiety and was trying to manage a crying hungry baby and 5 year old, couldn't move for space, became so upset, she had to leave without having eaten her dinner, which took ages to arrive. The manager/owner women had a miserable look and was unhelpful. We are locals, live in Rudgwick and had not expected this shambles. When you are spending over £300 in a restaurant, you expect better service. As my husband had booked 2 months inadvance, they had plenty of time to be organised. No apology for lateness of table or anything else was given. We believe they over booked. Even though we had eaten there many times in the past, in smaller numbers of 2/4/6, We won't return. It was such a disappointment of a much anticipated celebration day and it was ruined by their inability to cater properly for 11 adults and 6 children.

Amazing food, can’t thank the staff enough. They are so friendly, attentive and the pub was beautifully decorated. Highly recommend a visit to this pub either for a drink or food, you won’t be disappointed. Thank you again and Merry Christmas to you all.

I wish I could say good, generous, comforting words about the Fox. ….but I can’t. It was so noisy we couldn’t hear each other or our friends. Went for drinks and stayed for food which was a mistake. Food was left on the pass so any liquids had congealed and anyway, who serves gravy with Confit leg of duck which was lukewarm stringy and so un-crisp, it had been left languishing somewhere for quite some time. Chunky chips were lukewarm and the Thai green curry was a soup with stuff in it. Serving the fish (as in fish and chips) in two pieces means you get the wrong ratio of batter of fish and doesn’t work. Really poor offering with lack-lustre staff who spent the whole night adding to the over-loud musak by bashing anything they got their hands on. Need management urgently.

I'm sure this place is better when not so crowded during Christmas. Food was great, staff were attentive and worked thier butts off! Car park couldn't cope but I would go back..

After seeing positive comments on various Facebook groups, I’ve been here twice recently for roasts at Sunday lunchtimes. Once with my kids and once with my girlfriend. Both Sunday lunches were really good. The quality is great and the service is friendly and pretty quick considering how busy it gets on a Sunday. I definitely recommend it.

We loved everything about the fox. Food, staff, service. The only down side was a Staffordshire bull terrier that roamed freely around the restaurant and came to our table whe the food came and he/she smelt really bad from his/her mouth. A bit off putting when you're eating. The only reason this restaurant didn't get 5 stars from me was because of the dog

We visited here on the occasion of a special birthday lunch, there were 6 adults and two small children. Everyone wanted something slightly different, but this did not phase the staff, it seemed that all wishes could be catered for! The food was superb, I had roast lamb, and it was the tastiest, tenderest lamb I think I've ever eaten. The vegetables were cooked perfectly too. Dessert was also excellent.

First time here on Sunday for a friends birthday. Everyone had something different to eat and everyone absolutely loved their meal, my roast was outstanding! The staff were attentive, friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. Great atmosphere and the ‘outside’ dining area was super cosy, with blankets & pillows aplenty. Will definitely be back, thanks for a wonderful meal and great service 👍

The Fox Inn is one of the most amazing Inns we‘ve visited during our time in the UK. We were welcomed friendly & felt comfortable immediately. The staff was lovely & caring. The food was absolutely amazing, we haven‘t eaten that good for a while!!! We loved the wine, the atmosphere, the backyard and the furniture. If we‘re ever in the area again, we‘ll definitely come here again.

I was invited to a friend’s birthday party at The Fox yesterday. From my arrival to departing, the staff were welcoming and helpful. The creative way the table and area prepared for the party, was beautiful and so unusual. The food was absolutely superb and served with efficiency and kindness. I would really recommend the pub for a celebration and I’m sure my friend would do too. She said she had the best birthday she’s had for years.

Food was very enjoyable. Slightly disappointed with the roast potatoes, but that's just me being picky! I cook lovely roasties! Service was excellent. Very attentive and friendly. Overall a lovely place for Sunday lunch. Would recommend.

Second time we've eaten here in the last month and as fairly local people brought our friends from London here yesterday - a party of eight and two dogs. Service was excellent and food was delicious. Menu is varied and we had lots of different dishes- each one was fantastic. We had starters, mains and desserts. Would definitely recommend and we will definitely be back.

Stopped here on a whim while on a road trip just for a bite to eat, the food was amazing and not what we expected, would definitely say it’s above expectations of your typical pub grub , very lovely would definitely come back if we were in the area again.

Friendly staff, good beer and a nice atmosphere in an old country pub. Food is a bit underwhelming and a tad on the pricey side but is perfectly acceptable.

A solid country pub which serves a simple Sunday menu, providing roast dinners for meat eaters and vegetarians alike. The portions are large. The sides feed more than one. There is no children’s menu. Instead, children may have a half portion of any of the mains, which is a welcome move against more chicken nuggets and the like. The vegetables were cooked to perfection save for the roast potatoes which lacked the giving crispy crunch and the fluffy interior.

A friend and I decided to visit the Fox Inn for a long overdue catch up. First off, the food was not bad by a long chalk. The ramen, although a bit lacking in depth, was nice enough. The chocolate brownie was a good size and very tasty too. The food itself would probably get four stars from me. My main issue was with the service. We literally got hounded every five minutes by a different member of staff to order our food. All but one member of staff seemed thoroughly disengaged. I am pleased I went there but probably wouldn’t go there again as staff made us feel on edge.

A relaxed classic pub atmosphere with food that is more than worth travelling for. We ordered the lamb croquettes to start and it's safe to say that they were better than expected, almost pulled lamb, delicate and a great small sharing starter. I then had the BBQ Ribs, potentially the best ribs i've had anywhere, with an amazing combination of the meat falling off the bone and a sticky BBQ sauce that provided a very gentle crisp around the edges. My partner ordered the Crispy Duck Salad, this came with incredibly fresh salad partnered with a very generous portion of crispy shredded duck and a light soy based dressing. Would fully recommend coming here and will be travelling the 40min journey to eat here again.

Excellent quality Sunday lunch take away. Really liked that quality of food came before quantity. It is very easy to ‘pile’ up a Sunday roast lunch with lots of vegetables but they are just watery. This one had parsnips, carrots & broccoli which was plenty to go with meat, roast potatoes & Yorkshire pudding. Definitely recommend a visit to this pub for Sunday lunch.

We were staying up the road with Newfs In Action and had a takeaway roast dinner on the Sunday. It was absolutely excellent. Plenty of food and lovely quality. Thank you very much for catering for all of us.

We were a large group camping nearby and ordered the Take Away Sunday roasts. A couple of people from our party went to collect them. All the food was carefully packaged and labelled with our individual order names and arrived piping hot even though it had been transported back to the camp site. Individual items were packaged separately so they arrived in perfect condition - for example, the yorkshire pudding was separate from the cauliflower cheese so nothing went soggy. The food was fantastic - really tasty and generous portions. A special mention for the cauliflower cheese which was the best I have had in ages.

A lovely hot Sunday roast dinner with plenty of food was served for the Newfs In Action dog team. Just what we needed after a swim. Thank you and see you again.

Thank you for catering for Newfs In Action on Sunday 27th Aug. The roast dinners were spot on, and catering for so many of us in takeaways was no easy task. The quality of the food was amazing and the whole place was silent as everyone tucked in. The Newfoundland dogs also enjoyed some left overs and they definitely gave it the seal of approval! The food is hands down amazing We came down to Rudgwick on a camping holiday and this is the closest pub. What a little gem and hats off to the chef.

What a discovery. Easy parking and a tradional decor. The two young ladies on duty were superb, being highly professional and charming. What an asset they are to the pub. Great selection of beers and a delicious menu with all the food prepared and cooked on the premises. I enjoyed a juicy chicken snitzel with a yummy potato salad. I took some home made cakes home with me. A lovely atmosphere and well run. I highly recomend you drop in. I am planning on doing so for dinner as the menu tempts.

This is what a pub / pub food is all about ! All four of us struggled to pick something because it was all so good we wanted to order half a dozen things. I had the meatball sandwich with soup and salad. All three parts were delicious. 10/10 GO ! You will be very pleasantly surprised

Had a roast here last night, the service was incredibly quick. We were in and out within 30 minutes! The roast was incredible, will definitely be returning.

Had a pleasant sunday lunch. Fast and friendly service. Fresh food served in a nice garden. Had their roasted brisket sandwich with proper French fries. Recommended. Do book at week-ends.

I am working in the area, and decided to have a roast dinner at the Fox; I arrived early, but was immediately shown to a table, so that was good. From there it went downhill, a poor selection of drinks, I am a cider drinker, but they only had one proper (apple) cider available, which is too sweet for me, so I had lager, but made a poor choice of brand; as I don't drink lager, I was unsure of what to order, so just went for the one I could make out from the list the waitress gave me, my fault, wouldn't have it again. I was then told that there were no roast potatoes available, despite about half of the menu being roast dinners, but was offered chips instead, not what I would choose to have with a roast so I ordered a Lamb Croquettes and Fish and Chips. The waitress was not particularly helpful, after I placed my order in a clear voice, she asked me if I wanted a starter, so I repeated my request for Lamb Croquettes. My starter arrived, looking suspiciously like fish goujons, which it turned out to be, so I returned them. A couple of minutes later another waitress came over to ask, whilst looking at my empty table, if I had got my starter! I resisted the urge to resort to sarcasm, and eventually my croquettes arrived; they could have been any meat to be honest, as the inside was just a mush. Being hungry after a long journey down, I ate them without complaint. My Fish and Chips arrived, lukewarm and the chips looked like the last ones left in the packet that had come out of the freezer; I struggled on and gave up half way through. My plate was taken away, without comment, and I asked for the bill; when it arrived, I was asked if everything had been alright, and I said no, and explained what had been wrong, that a restaurant offering mainly Sunday Roasts (and which was not particularly busy) should have enough potatoes to last and that my starter had been wrong and my main meal not hot, which was why about half of it was returned. The waitress went back to the bar and returned with a new bill with 10% knocked off; this was not why I complained, I get paid expenses on receipt, so this was of no value to me. I will be looking for a different place to eat tomorrow. I'm sure, in the tradition of all reviews, someone will post that this didn't happen, or that it was a particularly busy night, or the waitress was new, but it is one of very few reviews I have ever posted on this site, and that because I felt very strongly enough about the service and food.
