Vino a almorzar en lugar de ir a McDs. ¡Me alegro de haberlo hecho! Mi esposa tomó la lasaña con ensalada y le encantó - yo tenía la "hamburguesa picante definitiva", que era mejor que McDs. Si bien es el pub más cercano a nuestra casa no entramos a menudo, pero cuando lo hacemos es genial

Gran ambiente agradable con buena comida de bar a un precio razonable. Vino a tomar un té rápido y estaba muy feliz con mi verdura Chili

Wow que puedo decir que vine a almorzar con mi amiga, cuando llegamos al bar tuvimos una cálida bienvenida encantadora de la casera nos sentamos y pedimos nuestra comida luego nos sentamos y nuestra comida salió súper rápido y caliente fue encantador la casera luego nos quitó los platos y nos ofreció si nos gustaría desiertos así que obviamente dijimos que sí. Sin duda recomendaría el deportista.

Tuvimos una comida encantadora aquí anoche - yo y otros 6 miembros de mi familia. Felicitaciones al chef, Kinga, y el servicio fue fantástico!

We popped in today for lunch. My husband had the mixed grill and I had rump steak. Both were served with chips, onion rings, mushrooms, peas and a fresh tomato. Both were very nice and cooked to perfection. Our compliments went to the chef. We would definitely recommend this place to go and we will be visiting again.

Fantastic, friendly and efficient service with beautiful food. Comfy bench seating, plenty of space for the whole family.

Me and my wife Lynn had another two very nice meals at the THE SPORTSMAN my wife had the Cheeseburger and I had the mixed Grill. Excellent meals and a fair price .

Hands down to the chef here. Had a chicken kebab with fries, and I have to say it's one of the best iv had, didn't want to leave any even though I was full. Thank you to the manager candice, for your hospitality will call again

we went for food for the first time here, we were with our dog, which was no problem. we ordered mix grill and chicken kebab. food served quickly and cooked perfectly. the presentation was very good. we will definitely come back

Recently visited the sportsman for a funeral, the staff and land lady were all very accommodating and helpful, plenty of bar staff serving. Toilets were clean and warm as well as having toilet roll and washing facilities. Drinks reasonable priced and nothing was to much trouble to make this day a good day under the circumstances. Excellent service and would recommend. Prior to the funeral we have also visited and ordered food. The food is lovely, well presented and enjoyable they have steak days, burgers days and also do Sunday lunch’s. Would recommend this also

My self and my partner and another 3 couples visited the sportsman not long back to have a catch up and chat . We was not satisfied by the slightest of this being a good pub. While we are all sat around the table you had kids running around with snooker cues , underage drinking , people being sick and it not being cleaned up , bar staff at the end of the bar on there phones , a dog behind the bar and walking around the pub , a girl underage serving drinks , people smoking cannabis on the sportsman’s ground , people fighting and doing drugs. In the toilets you then had empty drug packets just chucked all over the floor , 3 of the toilets was blocked , there was no soap to wash your hands with after using the toilet . I did try to attend these mattors to the land land of the sportsman stated above but that didn’t seem to be an issue to her and I didn’t really get any answers from her. Her reply to me was basically it's “ fine “ . I’ve attended other marstons pubs and they are definitely not like this ! This pub is definitely one of the worst ones under “martson” I definitely won’t be visiting here again ! It’s like waiting for a drug rade to happen and while your in the pub your very uncomfortable of what is going to happen .

Christmas dinner was amazing, sea bass was beautiful, been coming here for a few years and this dinner was the best. Charlie an Kinga did fab in the kitchen and all the bar staff were great. Thank you Candice and Team Sportsman. Overall it has been excellent, great food and great service. Same time next year.

The perfect pub for family ,friendly atmosphere, food tasty and served quickly. Saturday night with dj, often singers on Sunday afternoon. definitely worth a visit.

First time visit. It won’t be the last. We were a table of 7. The member of staff was really friendly. There was plenty of choice on the menu. One of our party has some food allergies, but the up to date allergy information meant that he could order what he wanted and they made a note of the allergies when placing the order. The flood was delicious and plentiful.

Came for Sunday lunch with the parents. Excellent Sunday dinner, good sized portions, meat was really really nice and a good variety of vegetables. All this was topped off with some excellent entertainment. Well worth a visit. Dog friendly as well!

We booked very last minute for a party of 14! We were accommodated straightaway and welcomed with a friendly smile upon entering the building. The food was served in a reasonable amount of time especially for the size of our party! All good was hot...

Where do i start; infact i wish i never started.

Lovely food for the price, lovely kind and friendly staff, first visit and will definitely return again.

Got to be one of the worst meal I have ever had in a restaurant. Apart form the fact that it took over 30min just to get 2 garlic breads, the bread was barely toasted and soggy as if it was heated in a microwave, The main meal was even worse and the only edible thing on the plate were the peas. Cottage pie was no doubts in my mind that it was one of these ready meal you buy in a supermarket but just worse with synthetic mash potato bare covering it, carrots were hard and barely warm.As for the chips ,well that's another story. All in all it was a disaster from start to finish.Reminded me of an old Bernie house in the 70's. You have to order at the bar and pay for your meal in advance. Not a place I will ever frequent again. Used to be a nice pub once with good food. Now its just something else.

After my fathers funeral we arranged to meet at the pub. There were more people turn up than expected but the landlord Paul dealt with it very professionally. He was basically on his own for the duration of our stay. The food was presented well and he kept us topped up with tea and coffee at all times. In between he had to deal with his regular customers with food and drinks. Everyone commented on the service we received and thanks Paul for a wonderful afternoon. You will be seeing some of us again

Visited on a Friday evening as recommended by family living nearby.Five of us for Drinks and Dinner. They didn’t have any real ale on whatsoever- all four pumps with nothing on at all. I asked the barmaid what wrong with the real ales? As its very unusual for a pub not to have anything on offer. I was told they are all off, I could see that! I asked why, and was told because they are off!Ridiculous situation. We walked out and gave our business to another pub who could be bothered to make the effort.

Plenty of free parking. Very roomy inside to manoeuvre pushchair. Highchairs freely available. Food lovely and service good

We went for a work meal and the menu says Guinness was one of the drinks that u get free with a meal on Thursdays the manager never even offered me guiness when I asked what drink I could had so I got something else and then one of my mates came back with Guinness as she had been served by someone else I was happy to just leave it as I'd already got half way down my pint my friend had questioned it and the manager marched over to me and started having a go saying Guineas is not on offer so naturally this got my back up so I calmly opened the menu and said to say you are the manager u dont know your menu well and ur customer service is appalling, will never go back again !!

Food all came out at different times. The order was wrong. Staff are rude and food is terrible. The manager needs listen to the customer feedback.!!!!

Came with my partner and sister - after reading some of the reviews we were sceptical about food but got 2 x Cajun Burgers with fires and regular Scampi with a side salad and it was lovely. Hope it helps ;)

When in for tea with my family. Manger if he could smile abit it would help. Ordered food was great came out lovley and hot. Went to order pudding at 20.00 but got told not doing anymore food orders. Was more shocked at 21.00 when got told had to leave my daughter is 17yr old not 5yrs or 8yrs old. Was not happy with this.

Had over hour wait, got most of order wrong table service absolutely shocking no offer for refund or offered anything else would HIGHLY NOT RECOMMEND not enough staff and a chef whom clearly needs help or more training and worst thing it was for kids that was mainly wrong so children had to sit and wait again for food as order was wrong

Food ordered at 13 minutes past 7 we only ordered the curry night special sat patiently starving to death food took over an hour to be served didn’t even get an apology for the delay Will we return not on your life

Been here a few times and it has always been good pub food at a reasonable price, but tonight we ordered off the new menu?? Which isn’t much different from the old, it wasn’t busy but after 40mins and still waiting my husband enqired at the bar the waitresses came back from the kitchen with our meal and it was cold, she took it back and 10mins later it was placed in front of us, must say that it wasn’t microwaved and was very nice. Unfortunately there was no no excuse or apology for the delay and we will think twice about coming back

Not been here for quite a few weeks won't be coming again...food used to be really good I queued for 30 mins for a beer whilst waiting heard people complaining about food ...cold overcooked still frozen...looks like different staff on from when I last came....will go somewhere else otherwise I will die of deck hydration waiting any longer for a drink...

Well lets start with the negative,the food took a gud 40mins to arrive but it was worth the wait! Lovely freshly cooked food,hot & tasty.Puddings were lovely & gud portions size.Plenty for kids too,not expensive & staff were friendly.We will return.

I took my family there for a meal after I had finished work as my youngest son and his girlfriend were visiting from down south. We waited ages for the food and when it came, I started to tuck in to my fish and chips. What can I say not a single bit of fish in the batter, not even a bone. I asked the Manger to come over to the table to have a look, she did apologise and offered me another meal and a free pudding. As everyone was eating their meals, I ordered a chicken and bacon salad. That took a while to come and was not great, the chicken had been obviously nuked in the microwave. I left quite a bit, and then went to the bar to order my free pudding and some for my guests, only to be told that the kitchen shut at 7.45pm. When I challenged them about only just finishing my meal due to sending back the first one, I was told that I could have a voucher for a free pudding on my next visit. I can not understand what the problem was as they only nuke up any hot puddings in the microwave or dish up some ice cream. I goes without saying that I shall not be returning and neither will my family as they also said that the meals were on the tough side.

Staff very friendly but seemed run off their feet ,i only saw two members of staff one behind the bar and one serving the food but to be fair it was not busy when we went in

Visited last Wednesday with 6 other family members, all had something different and we were all very impressed with the food, very good price and very good service. Will be calling again.

In the area so decided to just pop in for a meal and we were pleasantly surprised, the place is well presented the staff are friendly and efficient.

We went there for a meal as a group of 8 and had to wait 40 minutes for our meals, which wasn't a problem but then they had forgotten one of our meals and there was only one waitress serving.

Nice and clean staff friendly, happy to serve. Picked table chose food ordered food drinks at bar, lady first day she apologised fir going slow, which was lovely. We're sat a while waiting fir main to come. Manager did come and say it wouldn't be much longer and it wasn't. Food was piping hot when they brought it out and good sized portion for price. There was a mix up with desserts when they were ordered and came out. I ordered a shake cake? A mini dessert was given. I was only charged for the mini dessert. When I queried it with manager he was very apologetic explained he misunderstood what I ordered as he told the New lady I wanted the mini cake. He offered to get me what I wanted straight away. Nothing too much trouble. I declined offer. It was nice that it was made, it was a genuine misunderstanding.

Went to see what they had changed after the refit. To be fair not alot inside apart from a lick of paint and removing the raised section in the bar. A bit disappointing as it was closed for a few weeks . The most baffling thing is what are the pods in the beer garden apart from wind tunnels

El Sportman ha sido reparado en dos semanas atrás. Parece genial con todos los escaños en un nivel. Fuimos a pedir nuestras bebidas desde el bar poco poco decepción tuve que pagar por ellos de inmediato podíamos abrir una ficha. No tienes dinero en nosotros, así que tuve que pedir la comida en el mismo tiempo, así que podría pagar en mi tarjeta, me pidió que si no efectivo y me dijeron lo siento No. La comida era muy buena y caliente mi marido tenía un bistec y dijo que era tan tierno. Queríamos pudines y otra bebida de nuevo el mismo tuve que pagar con mi tarjeta de nuevo. Así fue con esta decepción, incluso el cajero automático no funcionaba. Los budines eran geniales tenía una pieza fuera de pastel de chocolate con helado era precioso y humedo. Esposo la manzana con flan estuvó. Era encantador y relajado aquí sería bueno si el personal y los propietarios sonrió y habló con nosotros.

Personal muy amable y servicial. Comida deliciosa. Sopa era magnífico. Tiempo lite almuerzo menú bocados era muy buena relación calidad-precio. Comida rápido - son obviamente preparar y cocinar todo en casa, así que no tienes que esperar por el tiempo de cocción (no es un restaurante de comida rápida! ), pero teníamos nuestras entradas a menos de 15 minutos de pedir (quizás menos nos charlando). De hecho, teníamos 3 campos, y nos estaban esperando para acabar primeros, así que podrían llevar a la salida de la principal. Ensalada era preciosa, un montón de carne en una cama fresca de ensalada.

The restaurant was not too busy and we had an hour to wait for food. My friend who is diabetic and needed to eat felt very uncomfortable having to wait all this time. We were not advised that there would be a delay if this had been so we wouldn't have waited.When the food arrived it was hot and typical pub food. However the house wine was terrible no body to it at all and I would not recommend it.It appears that there was not enough staff on duty in the kitchen. The waitress was very apologetic, but unfortunately no compensation was offered for the delay in delivering the food. What could have been a very pleasant evening turned into a disappointment and we wont be going there again.

Thought we would check out the refurbished Sportsman for tea,what a disappointment to say the least ! !! We had an hour to wait for food, the food when it finally arrived was very hot and nice. I'm a diabetic and thought we would have to wait about 20/30 mins at the most. Had we been informed there was a delay we would have gone elsewhere,no compensation for our wait was offered. I also mentioned the bottle of red wine was disgusting ! (Vinegar) (House ) the waitress was very apologetic but this just wasn't good enough. We won't be returning !!! Poor girls running around with food making apologies shame there was not enough cooks !!!!

We went to see if it was any better after the refit WOW? what a great job they have done Our party was to be 12 to celebrate one of our members birthday but 24 turned up it was no problem for the staff ,they did a fantastic job ,nothing was to much trouble for them .They were very friendly the food was very good value for money we will most definitely be going there again

Booked for table of 12 and turned up with party of 24 for lunch. Staff did everything possible to accommodate group given not prepared for so many of us at once. Great food and value with 3 course meal and drinks all for £7.25. Will definitely go back.

Had a table booked for 12 people at lunchtime with our walking group, unexpectedly 24 of us turned up. The new owners were fantastic! At first it was only the gentleman on duty - he looked after us all so well!Since the renovation, the pub looks clean, fresh, modern and welcoming and the food was delicious and extremely good value for money. Will definitely go back!

Called in today for lunch and can only say will not be going again! Only one member of staff attending to bar, delivery from brewery and waiting on tables for food so we waited over 10 minutes at the bar to get a drink. Some beer pumps had also run out so time was wasted pulling fresh beer through.Once settled, we ordered food (burgers) and after 40 minutes they hadn't arrived.Asked for money back which was quickly given with no reason for delay. Noticed also other customers being offered refunds for their orders.That said, the place wasn't over busy (I'd estimate around 20 customers) so I dread to think how they handle Sunday lunch.To say this is a Marston's pub the service falls way below what would be generally expected. There are much better pubs not much further away!

we have been to the sportsman a few times now and i have to say what a difference the new managment have made!! It was such good service and amazing food they even gave my daughter a little easter egg cup with a easter egg in the cup which made my daughters day!! Highly recommend pub! Such a friendly pub

Bank holiday Monday so many of our first choices were busy when wanting to find somewhere to eat for the family but The Sportsman was completely empty- should have taken that as a warning.Ordered 4 meals which arrived in good time but far from even a poor standard. Curry was so over microwaved it was crusty around the edges with not enough meat to feed a small budgie. One hunters chicken that was the size of a baby's flip flop and with the same texture. A chicken burger that had been fried so black and dry that it could have been used as a spare tyre if needs be and finally a chicken wrap that again was dry and over cooked and portioned with Tinkerbell in mind. No one came over to see if we were happy and staff showed no interest in their only customers.Definitely will not be returning after wasting over £40.00 on food and drink bill and will be writing to company for a full refund. Will keep you all posted but until I hear back - STAY AWAY

Never been before. I'm glad I ignored all the negative comments posted previously. I gather this pub is now under new management. The staff were very friendly. Our food arrived quickly. It was very tasty and we couldn't believe the prices. On the evening we went there was a female singer who was excellent and added to our evenings enjoyment. We will definately be going back.

Thank you for a really enjoyable evening in clean and comfortable surroundings. We all enjoyed our meals, which were hot, tasty, reasonably priced and served by pleasant staff. Great entertainment from the female vocalist Keeley James. Will definitely come back again.

We've been to The Sportsman several times over the past couple of years. We've overlooked the poor service in the past as the food has always been pretty good and its in a great local location. On our last couple of visits, the food was adequate, though we noticed a definite drop in standards. As usual the service was diabolical. After our experiences on Friday we won't be bothering again. We ordered three meals. It took around 15 minutes and four bar staff to try and order - because apparently my choice wasn't listed on the till system. All the while, the three other customers in the bar who wanted to order drinks were ignored - it was highly embarrassing. (Call me old fashioned but wouldn't a workaround be to write down my order and take it to the kitchen?) I made an alternative choice. What I ordered was jambalaya with fresh salad and garlic bread. What I got was a small portion of savoury rice, a limp salad and a pile of frozen chips. My Mum's plate of scampi came with the same limp salad and frozen chips but none of the tartar sauce as described on the menu. We waited for someone to come along and ask how we were finding our meal. Our chance to offer some constructive feedback. No sign of any staff. We waited for the table to be cleared. Still no sign of any staff. Three quarters of an hour later, we were still waiting. We finished our wine accompanied by our dirty plates and unfinished food. Maybe the three other customers in the pub had been attempting to order food. Definitely our last visit.

A brilliant lunch was served by friendly staff,all the meal was tasty and served when we requested, we were never rushed through courses.Alison the new manageress had everything organised so well. We have been locals at this pub for many years and have seen many managers come and go but Alison seems to have turned this pub around.great visit will definitely be back,great atmosphere and good food well worth a visit.

Service was fairly pleasant but took a long time for the food to come out. We were quoted around 45 minutes for food and didn't arrive for over an hour. People were smoking at the door and inside the pub which is very unpleasant to eat your dinner with, furthermore the complex has a unpleasant smell to it. Food quality as well was poor with food that didn't taste nice and one of us unable to get the correct order. Safe to say we won't be returning.

We popped into this pub on the recommendation of a friend, our main visit was specifically to eat & were not disappointed, my husband had the steak & I had the Cajun chicken, both were served with chips & accompaniments, it took 35 minutes from ordering to delivery but was well worth the wait, not to mention the fantastic low price at just under £15.00 for both (excluding drinks) the bar itself is really spacious with a friendly atmosphere, the staff were also very friendly, the location is approximately 3 miles from the town centre but the taxies are very reasonable around £5.50 to £6.00 & is an ideal location for the racecourse, we would definitely recommend this family friendy pub.

Having gone up for the VIP night and enjoyed the new food we went back and tried the new chicken dish, it was lovely,very crispy and so tender.lots of new additions to the menu and service for us was very quick and friendly.well worth a visit.

Seeing the sign under new management we decided to try it again and I have to say the new landlord and landlady are very friendly and inviting the food was nice and the service was quite nice we will go back again very soon

Thought we would give this pub a go for lunch before heading down to a rugby game and how glad we were that we did. As soon as the food arrived we knew it was going to be delicious. I had scampi and chips and there must have been 10 pieces of scampi and loads of chips, not a bit of grease anywhere. My hubbys fish and chips were also excellent. The staff were very friendly and service excellent. Th e place itself is a little tired but don't let this put you off.

Popped in for a couple of pints with the Mrs. Marston cream flow on draft. Small selection of real ales also available. New management. Friendly barmaid.Good location and large carpark.It's 70s style .comfortable seats / chairs.Ruby patterened carpet and wood theme.Wc very useable...gents..Large narrow conservatory area at front.

We popped in this Sunday for a quick pint and saw the lady serve the table behind us with two roast beef dinners. Intrigued, we ordered the same and were not disappointed. Beef, roasties, new potatoes, Yorkshire pud and three veg for £5.50 can't be sniffed at. Very good for the money and we'll call again. By the way, the beer was decent, the dry white wine was reasonably priced and good quality and the ladty serving behind the bar was very pleasant.

Went to have a lunch and there were 2 guest ales on, that has never happened in the last few months. Meal was served quickly and the new lady manager was extremely friendly and checking the food was good, we had a great meal and hope the future bodes well for this pub

Went to have Sunday Lunch and decided to have Fish and Chips instead.Not as clean as it used to be, did not like the fish..tastless, Not in any hurry to go back to eat there.

waited 15 minutes to order food with 3 other people after me. One member on bar and food. She had tried to call manager 3 times no answer, people 3 deep at 6.15 from taxi's from races. Dj clearing tables and washing glasses as bar maid overwhelmed. It took till 7.15 to get the manager behind the bar.several customers around us were not happy at all but had no one to complain to.there was a regulars private party on up to 40 guests arriving at the same time and they all had to wait.

good old pub. beer is good and its ok for chips and gravy ive never eaten much there. but drank a bit. good to settle after a days work you can sit in the sun in the front outside. relax with a beer and your mates

The service is hit or miss dependant on the staff on at the time..... Terrible unfriendly management.
