The Sports Bar in South Norfolk

I’ve read some reviews of barnham broom. I can’t believe anyone would give it a 5 star rating. Stayed there two nites with friends, We ate at the brasserie on the first day, three starters were sent back and because they were so bad(dried and rubbery) we ordered crab cakes instead, Two had pieces of shell to them. As of mains. Duck cooked ok but orange sauce brown tasteless sludge. Vegetables over cooked. Hashed potatoes square stodgy block. The main that was of reasonable taste was the canalone. Did’nt bother with pudding as you might of guessed. Wine overpriced(39.95 for an ordinary Prosecco). As for the sports bar. It was so bad I haven’t time to write everything. Service was terrible.orders wrong. Food out at different times.Worst was none tasted halfway decent. I found it difficult to give the place one star. I will go back to play golf as both courses good, especially the valley course but will eat and drink somewhere else.shame as setting and views lovely. .

Lovely place to meet friends. We watched a football game and had some food. Very spacious bar with gorgeous views, welcoming staff, good food and a large selection of drinks! I had the truffle burger - it was amazing! Whilst my friends opted out for a steak and fish and chips! All the food was well presented and tasted great! Thank you, Leon for looking after us! We will be back!

Well what a find this place is! Having lived nearby for a couple of years now we somehow never visited this place before. The Sports Bar at Barnham Broom hotel is such a superb bar and we will now be regulars for sure! It is a spacious place with beautiful views over the golf courses, they show sport on TVs, have a pool table and the outside area is lovely too! We didn’t book a table - and it seemed no issue at all. We were promptly seated by one of the friendly staff members. Their menu has a vast variety of dishes, they serve incredible cakes and scones and I saw a poster that they now do pizzas too! We can’t recommend it highly enough, and looking forward to coming back very soon!

Great, spacious, friendly bar. Stunning views, lovely outdoor area and live sports on TVs. Delicious food and plenty of drinks to choose from. We had a prawn salad and a couple of sandwiches, and finished off with coffees and some amazing homemade cakes. What’s not to like!

Barnham Broom is located in the middle of nowhere, and has the benefit of being home to two golf courses, a reasonably good gym/spa and the glorious Norfolk countryside. But rather that capitalise on those opportunities, Barnham Broom take the “captive market” method of pricing to a new level. Nobody goes to Barnham Broom for the food or drink, you go because of one of the aforementioned reasons. Maybe a golf trip, a spa break or just a stay in the Norfolk countryside. But once they have you, they know you have no choice but to pay whatever they want. The bar staff are genuinely embarrassed to charge the prices they do. After a round of golf, I was shocked that it would cost £5.95 for a simple pint of orange juice and lemonade! It’s frankly embarrassing and it leaves a very sour taste when attending what is a lovely venue. Having spoken to many golf members (past and present), they all share the same resentment that they are being ripped off, and the management think that “higher prices = higher income” where in reality a fair price is likely to lead to more orders.

It took 1 hour and 20 minutes to get our food. Had to chase it up. No apology or explanation when it did finally arrive. Food pretty average. Won’t be rushing back.

Great choice of menu - went for the soup, which was delicious. Large seating areas, both inside and out to choose from.

We visited after a round of golf. The Food we received was substandard, cold and expensive. Service was very slow. I wouldn’t recommend.

Friendly staff, good food, bit pricey for what it is though....

We visited the Sports Bar twice during our stay this week. Sunday evening was just for drinks and the young man who served us was very polite and personable. We returned on Monday evening for a meal, as our son wanted to watch the football match. The member of staff in charge was excellent, even though we struggled with the app and then we moved tables when one in a better position became free. Our main courses arrived quickly and were delicious. I had a generous prawn, crayfish and avocado salad with olive sourdough bread, my husband had beautifully cooked, thick ham, egg and chips and our son had the Banham Burger, He said it was 'proper meat, not the rubbish stuff'. We also had two desserts that were exceptional. We hadn't expected much after reading previous reviews but perhaps they have new cooks and have invested in staff training. If so, it is certainly paying off. Prices are a little high for such a venue, hence loss of a star

Asked for a meal in the bar area as I was attracted by the Pie evening . We were offered a settee and a coffee table to dine at. We rejected this and we’re shown to an adjacent bar with a proper table. Before ordering our drinks we checked the pies were available and said we would have the chicken and leak. Our drinks arrived and was then told they had no pies left We ordered different main courses. Ice cream was our choice for desert but it was the wrong choice as when it had it arrived at our table it has melted. The bill did not impress, £5.40 for a pint of local beer which we had paid £3.20 the previous night at a local pub. Not impressed

Eggs were overcooked, sent back, very expensive for what it was. Food was not tasty at all. Service was ok.

Great summer salads - prawn and crayfish is my favourite

£23 for a very average burger and a coke.... got it on an affordable two year payment plan though

We went here for drinks in the sports bar today which is now table service only. We walked in, said hi to the bar staff and duely sat down. Two gents walked in after us and were told to find a seat as table service only. Then two other people came in, went straight to the bar, asked the same bar staff for two coffees to which she said OK, charged them and instructed the other bar staff to make them while us and the other gents still weren't being served. She then asked the chap behind the bar to take the two gents orders who came in after us!! First in, last served! And they charge for this table 'service'! Shame, as it could be a really good place but the staff just don't know how to do it. Been coming here for 35 years but will not be coming back.

We were staying at the HPB and decided to go to the bar for drinks.We we’re going to eat there but the menu was limited and very very expensive Ham,egg, and chips was £17.00 ridiculous.Although you are allowed now to order from the bar ,we were told to sit down ,and either order on the app ,if the staff come over they charge service charge.We we’re the only ones in the whole bar and it was a Saturday night.We have been coming her to Norfolk for over 25 years on holiday.And the bar has gone down so much over the years.You can now longer book Sunday lunch as they don’t do that either in the restaurant.With all the holiday apartments on sit they could do very well.The staff we not that friendly and helpful and considering the bar was empty it was poor. Definitely one to avoid far to expensive for what they offer.£40.00 for six drinks is awful.

We had a breakfast and an early evening meal here. It's a smart bar with excellent views over the golf course. Food exceeded expectations and, although it was very busy in the evening, service was swift and accommodating. Drinks were slightly expensive, but you are at a golf club!

A pleasant place to dine looking out over the golf course but I found the food disappointing, nicely presented but lacking in taste especially the chips. Puds were OK but an average experience.

A large area with plenty of seating. sports TV. food was ok but food and drinks are a little expensive.

Used this venue on arrival for lunch ( lovely crushed avocado & poached eggs on rye bread) and drinks after golf although staff willingly took orders and then served us on the downstairs terrace as the weather was nice.

Met by warm friendly staff. Sat out on the terrace and had one of the best burgers ever. Great kids meals too. Loved the pint of Moretti. Felt safe and relaxing.

On the previous day we had a most enjoyable meal in the hotel restaurant and decided to opt for a less formal meal on our last night so we decided to go for the Sports Bar. Neither of our meals rated as wonderful but at least my husband’s chicken, whilst over cooked (charred black), was edible. However my Caesar salad was probably the worst I’ve ever had and was inedible! Limp lettuce, doughy croutons and what was described as ‘shredded duck’ was morsels coated in a glutenous sickly sweet concoction dumped on the top of the salad. AWFUL!

Apareció para almorzar y tomar bebidas mientras esperaba ingresar al alojamiento HPB.Lugar muy luminoso.El personal fue muy servicial y amable.Parecía haber una gran variedad de comida en el menú.Uno de nuestro grupo tenía pescado y patatas fritas.Yo y otro comimos sándwiches que eran muy agradables.Parecía haber tres televisores mostrando diferentes deportes, un partido de fútbol muy ruidoso, pero supongo que es un bar deportivo.Me imagino que es un buen lugar para que vengan familias mientras una fiesta juega al golf.

Pasamos el domingo por la tarde hasta el lunes por la tarde en Barnham Broom Golf & Country Club. Aunque cenamos en el restaurante, comimos bocadillos y bebidas a la hora del almuerzo en el Sports Bar. Obviamente, este es un lugar muy popular porque el Sports Bar estaba agitado y la televisión demasiado ruidosa luchaba con las multitudes extremadamente ruidosas, principalmente golfistas, lo que hacía prácticamente imposible tener una conversación con nuestros amigos. No tuvimos más remedio que retirarnos a la sala de estar, que tiene un ambiente mucho más tranquilo y confortable. Habiendo dicho eso, los sándwiches eran muy buenos, pan fresco suave y jamón sabroso. Nuestro servidor fue un poco olvidadizo ya que una bandeja de té para dos llegó primero sin leche y luego tuvimos que volver a llamarlo por cucharaditas. Sin embargo, estoy seguro de que volveremos en algún momento en el futuro, ya que se encuentra en una hermosa parte de Norfolk con dos campos de golf bastante desafiantes.

The sports bar is excellent and positioned next to the pool and gym area. Staff are really friendly and service great. Food very good and served hot with special dishes of the day as well as plenty of menu choices for all dietary needs.

The golf package of 2 rounds, dinner B&B was great value. Restaurant Food was v good quality, however bar prices were excessive.

We recently came for lunch here and it did not disappoint. Lovely fresh sandwiches and the cream tea was great as well. The team are so friendly, especially Rebecca who was so professional and personable! Will definitely be back, thanks Barnham.

Visité el Sports Bar para cenar. Éramos una fiesta de seis con dos hijos.La noche se mostró como una noche de pastel con el pastel de carne y cerveza servido con papas asadas y verduras de temporada. Cuando llegó el pastel, aunque razonablemente sabroso, estaba sobrecocido con pasta dura, papas hervidas no asadas y una ramita delgada de brocalli, algunas judías verdes y una porción de guisantes congelados con maíz dulce.Dos pizzas se cocinaron en exceso con bases quemadas y la ensalada que se ordenó por separado era unas pocas hojas verdes con virutas de queso cheddar, probablemente no parmesano.¡Los precios son caros con una pizza que cuesta 16 o 17!El personal era amable, pero esto no compensó la mala calidad de la comida.

No way into the bar without negotiating a lot of stairs. Once you get there the staff and service are lovely

Really enjoyed my visit here. The staff were really attentive, helpful and friendly. Great range of drinks with two of my favorite larger, peroni and St Miguel. Came in the evening for drinks with family then in the morning for coffee and a breakfast roll which was great value.

The menu is now much reduced and is basically sandwiches, burgers and pasta. Sandwiches were tasty and served with about a dozen kettle chips, over priced at £7.95 each though. Bar price are high, £8 for medium size glass of rose wine and £6 for pint of lager.

First time visiting the sports bar, was served by a lovely and polite young lady, Becky. Ordered a cappuccino and Latte, have to say both the drinks where perfect not to strong or bitter, would definitely recommend them.

Reasonable pub food at very good prices. Good relaxed atmosphere and friendly efficient staff. Overall a pleasant experience.

Loaded cheese and bacon fries are devine,great atmosphere in the bar. You can watch sport drink beer and read the papers .

I stayed here for two nights for my friends wedding. The sports bar is very good, good seating for TVs for the sport and the club sandwich and the sea food platter to share were decent but be careful when ordering the hot loaded fries were insanely hot, if you haven’t got a mouth full of asbestos, give it a miss.

Came here to photograph a wedding so I was included food to choose from the Sports Bar menu. I opted for soup of the day (mushroom & tarragon) with a side of fries. The soup was nice, thick, flavoursome. Fries are fries are at the end of the day.

We ate at the Sports Bar on a couple of occasions during our recent holiday at Barnham Broom, as well as watching cricket and football on the big screens, and having several games of pool. The full breakfast was excellent, and the bacon and sausage baps were delicious. We also enjoyed burgers and sandwiches, all freshly made and nicely presented. This is definitely a good place to go, before or after golf, or just for a quick and tasty meal.

We visited this on the day of the World Cup quarter final so the atmosphere was great with the tension and excitement of England getting closer to winning the World Cup.

The sports bar doubled up this year for reception for golf societies which worked well. As a sports bar there are screens that can be seen from most seating areas. The large projection screen appears to have gone. There is usually sufficient staff in the bar which is usually quite busy. As in most places premium prices.

We dined in the Sports Bar on our first evening. The staff behind the bar are very welcoming and helpful.

So frustrating this place. Chips always over cooked and soggy.. strange club sandwich gone wrong concept.. had a bad meal previously and can’t risk more than a sandwich

I know these places can be pricey but for two drinks the price was ridiculous. Staff were really sloppy too - needed a rocket under them as they were so slow.

Nice sports bar simple food. Jacket pots microwaved😩However GVFM. Great atmosphere. A good foil for brasserie.

I enjoyed a Mac and cheese with triple cooked chips, and a pint of the Barnham Broom ale. Reasonably priced but not the cheapest. Food was of a good standard and I enjoyed it whilst watching the football!

Had dinner and drinks here. Food gorgeous, drinks reasonable. Husband could watch the football! Would definitely eat here again.

We were rained off our golf so adjourned to the bar about 5 p.m. My wife watched Federer win his match and i taught a few golfers to play Texas Hold'em (not for cash). The staff were efficient and easy going. After dinner we sat outside until midnight , rare in England, and were still served. Excellent.

Staff very friendly, and accommodating. Food not so great, as you can see in the photo the burger is burnt ! Can't see how they can serve that. As we are staying in the area this week we were planning on returning but can't see that happening now.

Wow have the hand cut chips in the bar they are great. Has ham egg and chips very good. Couldnt eat it all.

Good choice of food and drink staff helpful but hotel and golf staff permitted to use facilities was not ideal. But not off putting, I recommend the use of this establishment.

I have stayed at the hotel a few times and to be honest the Sports bar service is not good.

The choice of food in the Sports Bar was good. I had the house special burger and it was gorgeous. Served with thin fries and a corn on the cob. Bar has several Tvs which show Sky SPorts News and you can hear the sound - not just pictures with muted sound. Friendly staff; food hot; beer cold. What more could you want ?

Stopped here for a drink and lunch after a round of golf. Three of us had salads and one had a club sandwich. All excellent. Reasonable value. Pleasant service as well.

As we stayed at the hotel, we thought we'd like to see how the bar meals compared. Very pleased to say the meals are excellent too, we had a great day and relaxed in the sports bar with a quiet night as this was mid week.

Good service, well-kept beer and a range of decent wines and reasonably priced food puts this at the top end of the genre

My food was over cooked, more like charred than char-grilled. Everyone else enjoyed their sandwiches. I enjoyed trying the local beer, Woodfordes Wherry and the view of the golf course, so 3 stars but the food was disappointing on this occasion.

Lunch was a bit slow coming up, then we realised everything was lovely and fresh so worth the wait. The bar staff staff were friendly and very approachable.

Very comfortable setting with views over the Golf course and a screen showing sports. The menu was very pub food type, but tasty and cheaper than the Brasserie.

Staying at the hotel and spa we decided to eat in the Sports Bar. The menu was extensive and catered for most palates. The superfood salad was huge and I'd chosen to add a salmon fillet. My friend chose the salmon fillet with new potatoes and green beans.

Drinks expensive and food very second rate would not eat in this place again. What a shame as the golf experience was excellent

The club sandwich is a meal in itself, particularly after a good round of golf.However, it is quite pricey, as is most of the menu.

Stayed at hotel. Didn't like food in restaurant so had sandwich here. Bread a little dry and salad with it had bitter tasting oil on and crisps were warm

Lots of golfers paying somewhat inflated prices for drinks. Have been in better and staff were a little unfriendly! Better to drink in one's appartment.

Used the sports bar in between rounds of golf and at night. Very expensive to eat in here, £9 for a sandwich. Beer not too bad more expensive than your local pub, but not london prices. And probably most importantly it closed early every night we were there. Some of the staff were excellent , others need to be taught how to pour a pint of beer properly

Although did not stay long, had difficulty in climbing the steps, I also found it to be very noisy although service was good.

You can order the same food a week apart and it appears totally different to a different standard and different recipe. Sometimes its good, most times its just OK, sometimes it is poor. Don;t go near the Caesar Salad, its the worst ever - not sure they know what the recipe for caesar salad is.

Supposedly one of the best hotels in Norfolk so perhaps the prices reflect their reputation ?

Nice selection of snacks available. Enough space to sit away from the tv screen. Bar service good. Not long to wait for food.

Huge room with loud TV commentary. Only three tables occupied. Menu is much like the brasserie but cheaper. Maybe on a busier night there might be a bit more atmosphere but we didn't go back!

We popped in here for a quick bite to eat and found it to be good value. Nice views across the golf course. Watch out though for the golf bores. Unsurprisingly the place was full of them. The restaurant next to the Sports Bar was excellent.

We stay at the nearby hpb so pop in here after a trip to the pool . Ordered 3 meals lunchtime , my chilli turned up cold and was tutted at when i asked it to be heated up . Friend ordered sausage rolls which they had run out of . Love our accommodation but the hotel and sports bar are poor .

could do with slightly wider menu - the small portion will be fine for most people i certainly couldnt have eaten any more - just a bit more varied menu would be better - some healthier choices

We had a lovely couple of lunches here after using the edge gym, reasonably priced food and quite a range of choice- it was difficult to choose, our meals we all delicious and we both had clean plates every time. The views out across the golf course are relaxing, as is the seating. it did get quite rowdy in the bar with football on big screens and big groups of lads in to watch. A pool table is there too and a gaming machine. We would go here again when staying a the hotel, not sure if you can use the bar without being a member.

The Sports Bar provides refreshments for golfers and visitors to the Hotel & Country Club requiring simpler fare than that served in the Hotel restaurant (the Brasserie). You can avoid the TV screens by sitting at the end nearest the door to the golf course. There is a basic menu of bar style meals such as burgers, fish and chips, salads and sandwiches. We chose burgers, one beef and one chicken (a griddled chicken breast) which were served with skinny fries. We added a side order of salad and onion rings. Service was quick and the food was nicely cooked and presented though I am not keen on the fashion for wooden boards. They seem unhygienic to me and food falls off them! But apart from that, no complaints at all!
