The Snooty Fox in Guildford

Really great place but lots of staff for very slow service

I recently visited The Snooty Fox café in Shalford, Surrey, and had a fantastic experience. The café is known for its commitment to homemade and fresh food offerings, and my chorizo hash did not disappoint. The dish was made with generous proportions of homemade fillings and fresh bread, which made for a delicious and satisfying meal.

This is a lovely little cafe, always busy. The coffee and food are generally good quality and the staff polite. I do take issue with some of the pricing, it is quite expensive to eat in. Not sure how £3 extra a 60% increase is justified for a hot bacon sandwich when the VAT and most of the overheads are already baked into the cost of the takeout.

I’m always disappointed when I come here. Food and drink is hit and miss but when it’s bad it’s very bad.

Fortunately I did not eat in this afternoon, otherwise this poorly made sandwich with brie and cranberry would have cost me almost £8!!! As you can see from the photos, no real care taken in its preparation - I cannot understand how they get away with adding an extra £3 onto eat in food orders. We will be going to our local Bramley cafe from now on *Update*. This place is not wheelchair accessible - staff told me to use the exit door which is right next to a load of chairs and tables outside and a very small space Infront of the counter and till with no manoeuvre room to go inside and find a table. There is a ramp up to the door but if the place is super busy which it is most of the time , a wheelchair albeit a lightweight one like mine, would not be able to go inside. There needs to be a review of this to make the safe accessible for everyone

£4.25 for a single, dry welsh cake is outrageous and two of our 3 coffee cups were chipped. Coffee sizes also really small for the price. Wouldn’t go again and wouldn’t recommend.

Nice place, coffee was lovely. They did forget half my order and it wasn’t handled very well when I queried it. Nonetheless, the food was good.

Well I obviously don’t hang out in the right coffee shops. Today was the first time I have spent over £4 for a coffee 😧 - it was tasty but that is not really justifiable, surely? The pain au chocolat was the biggest disappointment though - dry and expensive (probably from the day before). And despite 4 servers being behind the till, it took a minute or two before I was even acknowledged - and there were about 4 other punters inside. Maybe the name is apt. Nice toilets though.

I've stopped here a couple of times as it's convenient, each time I've felt it was a bit over priced, but this time it really did seem to take the biscuit. Two cups of tea, a croissant and a very small slice of cake was around £16! I had ham and cheese in the croissant, it was fine but it certainly wasn't anything special. It seemed that we were also charged around £1 per item extra for the privilege of eating inside..

I've visited quite a few times recently, while clearing a house in the village, and the quality of food and service has been consistently good every time - a welcome break on some quite challenging days. The cafe is very well staffed and always welcoming. The food is what you'd expect in a village cafe, but good quality and well presented. Very good coffee and pastries too.

Nice bacon rolls, good coffee and friendly staff.

See the photos, they say everything. The food was good and the internal decor was interesting and unusual. The photos show a very meaty sausage roll and a tasty ham and cheese croissant.

Excellent coronation chicken rolls and cuppa. Served quickly. Decent music.

Food good, service a little erratic (young team) waited 20mins for food and then had to remind them the. Wait another 5 mins for a toastie. That said friendly and good coffee

Went here for breakfast. Asked for a bacon roll with ketchup. This was a takeaway ordered so was wrapped up, made it down the road realised it had no sauce in it. This has happened a few times. Food isn't as good as they think it is and staff cleanly struggle to understand basic requests. Ended up throwing the dry bacon roll away. So be careful and check everything you order as they have probably got it wrong.

Drive past this so often. Decided to grab some breakfast and was blown away by the service. Loads of staff who go above and beyond to make sure you’re accommodated for. Definitely make sure you stop in! Perfect

Only complaint is everyone knows how good it is and keep it filled to the gunwales 😊

Every Sunday morning, I enjoy a cup of coffee and toasty or scrambled eggs. Everything tastes delicious and the staff is very, very friendly!

Always a great spot to stop for a coffee, bite to eat or bigger meal. Friendliest team in Guildford. I love the fact that they don't try to rush you out the door if they aren't busy so I can finish what I working on. Very much recommended..

Delicious food, nice people, lovely place.

Beautiful location in a wonderful part of the world and it’s well furnished. Unfortunately it stops there. I’m always happy to pay a premium for good food but the quality of food at the snooty fox is well below par - which is a great shame due to the good points above. They are clearly margin driven as they’ve not just scrimped on procuring good produce but also haven’t invested in well trained staff - unfortunately most of which are young children just old enough to work; who the owners get away with paying minimum wage. This place has so must potential and would be easy to get it right but they’ve fallen short in so many ways.

Had the full English breakfast, which was very nice. Only 4 stars due to cost. Breakfast plus a cup of tea nearly £15. OK, you only get what you pay for, but still excessive.

Overpriced. Had this place saved for a while and visited recently whilst walking the dog in the area. Flat white was over £4, no sign of what the beans were they were using, but wasn’t even that nice. Worth noting most roasters or craft cafes are charging between £3.40-3.70 for good quality coffee. My full English although tasty again felt overpriced at £15, and again, no mention of the produce being local or sustainable or anything that would support such a price. Partner had porridge and a banana and that was £6. Say what you like, we’re in our thirties and spent the last 10 years in North London, yet both of us left here feeling marginally ripped off. Won’t go again.

To be fair it was very busy Sunday lunchtime so when i arrived on my first visit for a quiet coffee and catch up on jobs on my phone i was disappointed! ... anyway £3 extra on a four quid sandwich if you eat it inside is taking the p*ss. Luckily it was a sunny day and i sat on the park bench right outside and ate my delicious baguette

This friendly atmospheric café in the small village of Shalford has become the hub of social interaction. The food and drink are of highest quality. The sandwich fillings are the most varied I've come across in a café. The downloadable app makes preordering of orders a breeze. It has inside and outside seating, and an area in the back for large groups or gatherings.

Overpriced w/ no gluten free options served. £3 extra just to have your sandwich indoors.

Have loved this place for years, but £12.55 for a coffee and sandwich? Really? Getting greedy, possibly. Ps, table dirty, loos dirty etc. Oh dear

Ordered 2 takeaway iced coffees cost £8.40!!! Had to wait over 10 mins for it to be poured out of a ready made vat because only one member of staff was on drinks. I saw 2 other members of staff standing doing nothing! Very expensive and slow service. I will not go again.

Ordered iced coffee. Bearing in mind all is required to serve it is to put some ice in a cup and pour the pre made coffee. Two members of staff stood around doing nothing whilst waiting for the “guy who does the coffees” to do them, as if they were incapable of doing it themselves! Each coffee also costing 4 quid when they are quite small! If you’re going to serve overpriced coffee at least don’t leave your customers waiting 15 minutes to get it. Sandwiches here are also overpriced considering they skimp on the ingredients. The only reason they get away with it in my opinion is because there’s no other competition in Shalford. This place is highly overrated and I will not be spending money here again.

Very disappointing to support local business and be charged a whopping £4 for one chocolate chip cookie. Even the lovely waitrons could not improve my mood after that. Nice coffee but also over priced at £4, so we wont be supporting again.

Had an early start and missed breakfast. Stopped here for a late breakfast/brunch. Ordered the Snotty big breakfast. Expensive but well worth it. Quantity and quality. The whole breakfast was very good but the eggs and sausages were outstanding. Atomosphere was great as well with a very diverse bunch of customers. This was a Monday morning. The queue at the weekend must be a mile long. If you are passing, stop and feast. You'll have to a long way to find better. Staff were excellent as well.

A little overpriced but very tasty and way above a " greasy spoon" cafe, so.... worth the extra charge.

Well! What can I say?! Just brilliant! Absolutely fantastic burger ( with added bacon and cheese) not cheap but great quality and so very very tasty!! The bun was the best bun I’ve ever had a burger in! The patty was not shy ! Super succulent! The chips on the side were wonderful too! Although I think I could have eaten just a few more! ! Flat white was good ! The only issue was the parking! I guess it was just bad timing but we spent ten minutes driving around near by road’s looking for a space only to end up doubling back to find a space practically outside the place🙄! Really good ! Many thanks all at the Snooty Fox!

Nice location, overlooking a green open space with cricket pitch, and good atmosphere inside. Food was fine - one of us had a toasted sandwich, another a BLT sandwich and staff were particularly helpful re one of our party who had special dietary requirements (cook did a poached egg salad, which was delicious). Air conditioning was a bonus, it being a warm day.

Good food. Our order was mixed up but it didn't affect our enjoyment of the visit.

I ordered a simple cheese ‘n ham and a black coffee. My sandwich was made with pride and ready in no time at all. While waiting to pay not a single person acknowledged my existence. And when they finally could be bothered to make my coffee I had had enough and said don’t bother. Left with the sandwich and bought a coffee elsewhere. Don’t know if I could recommend to be honest.

Eye-wateringly expensive. One very small Welsh Cake and a basic coffee £8 😲. Won't be going back anytime soon.

experienced their in the last couple of days my mix of prawn sandwich on granary was to die for. However not to be out done their home made sausage roll was even better. Service both times prompt and delightfully pleasant. A real treat!

I had an hour to kill yesterday morning so stopped here for a cuppa just after 8am. I ordered a tea and a cookie - nearly £8! I sat down in the back room and ft quite nauseous at what was the table next to me. The hand sanitiser had what looked like congealed food all over the bottle and a ketchup bottle which didn’t look particularly sanitary either! The cookie was lovely but nowhere near worth nearly £5!! I had another hour to kill the next morning at the same time so I decided I’d go again, but just for a cuppa. I sat in the same place, sanitiser bottle still in the same position and still covered in god knows what, but there was an addition this morning - someone’s chewed chewing gum was just sat on the table!!! This had clearly been there from yesterday as my visit was early again. These standards of hygiene, or lack of is not acceptable and makes me wonder what their kitchen hygiene is like!!!

Excellent coffee and lovely indoor area. However the outside seating area iinfront is unkempt and could do with a good sweep.

Friendly team delivering a great range of fresh meals. A good deli selection. Nice to have a bite to eat and watch the cricket on the green across the road.

Stopped here for some take away lunch and coffees It was very busy , if you want a table I suggest booking in advance Great selection of fillings for sandwiches which are made to order Great selection of cakes too We ordered two breakfast baguettes, they even had whole meal baguettes yum. The coffee is delicious We will be back to dine in next time

The price of coffee is insane.. EXPENSIVE COFFEE! £4.6 for a flavoured latte! £4.2 for regular latte! Pancake is good but everything is over price, but coffee is very very average and even below Guildford’s average. I will not be back again.

Over priced the food was cold the staff are very frosty & didn’t get what I asked for would never go there again!!!

Extremely disappointing visit today over priced unfriendly staff will not be visiting again. I asked for hot water to warm my baby milk up and got charged 75p asked for small cup of milk for my toddler £1.60! Such a shame was amazing but will need to find another coffee shop to go with my children.

What a find! I popped in when I had to kill some time near Guildford. I had the Eggs Royale which was very well presented and very tasty. The poached eggs were cooked perfectly! The cafe is very well laid out, light and clean. Plenty of seating. Toilets were very respectable too. I can’t fault it. Thanks.

Lovely vibe at this cafe. Staff are helpful and coffee is great. Lots of choice on the menu and cafe has indoor and outdoor seating. Dog friendly too. Would say that vegan options needed on the menu please!

Young staff but always friendly. The halloumi burger is amazing! But the toilets not always super clean unfortunately.

Having lived in the area for several years, I have always driven past the Snooty Fox, but never visited. So, last weekend we made a special trip to visit and have breakfast. We stood in what we thought was a queue to get in, but we were quickly met by a member of staff who rudely shouted at us that we were standing at the wrong door. Taken aback by her abrupt manner and tone, another customer and ourselves promptly left to find somewhere else more welcoming. A real shame.

I stopped here for brunch and they have a lovely selection of sandwiches etc.Very friendly staff. I had hazelnut flat white + tomato mozzarella pesto on a seeded bap toasted. Good indoor and outdoor seating. Welcoming g to bikers

The snooty fox has a reputation it absolutely does not deserve. They easily have the worst-tasting coffee from all cafe's within a 3 mile radius, it's dreadful, like drinking mud. Zero understanding of the differences between a cappuccino, a latte or a flat white - they are all served the same. Their wider menu is vastly overpriced. Their staff are grumpy and service generally poor. For the exact same money, take yourself a little further down the A281 to Maddings cafe, or The Forge in Shamley Green - both of which have brilliant food, brilliant coffee and excellent staff. Stop taking your friends to terrible places like this. There is far better available in the area.

I come here most Sundays it’s become a tradition, I’m always greated by a cheerful young lady, who I order a sausage sandwich with, they have loads of bread and sauce options, the bread is always soft with my nice warm filling of choice inside. I then order a coffee which is amazing too. This is always quick and a nice experience. Thanks.

Nice place to watch world go by

We had a vanilla latte, had to pay extra for the vanilla shot & it didn’t taste vanilla at all. We had 2 eggs Royal, on one the eggs were over cooked, on the other the they were snotty and undercooked. We asked just for the eggs to be redone, we got given our breakfasts again. The eggs were fine this time but found hair in the food. We then got offered a refund for one of the eggs royal and our drinks but the staff didn’t know how to work a refund at the till, as the manager had walked off when he said he’d deal with it. We then only got refunded £5 less than we should of. Very dissapointed for the prices they charge

The atmosphere was lovely with staff so helpful great buzz to the place, We just had take way coffees +h am & cheese croissant,both were lovely. I had left my purse in the cafe, and Abby kindly ran out to my car after I had phoned to see if it was there to save me walking inside, very thoughtful. We loved the coffee & staff so will be returning, Thank you David & Helen

Our first time here today and will defo be back. Great value and a beautiful warm welcome from a lovely lady called Tully. She provided great customer care and nothing was too much trouble. Well done Tully and well done the Snooty Fox

Great food and coffee but bit too pricy

My brother in law and I went in and ordered a sandwich. The young girl behind the counter cheerfully announced - “sorry you’re three minutes too late”. Even though she stood at the counter where all the fillings were in bowls and there was bread all around her - we were THREE mins late. I saw a previous review along the same lines about this place too. I don’t know if they read these reports but they should. Three minutes too late. My brother in law bought a sandwich from a fridge. I’d told him not to bother but he was hungry. I just don’t understand the mentality. All the stuff was laid out. Is there a war on? They weren’t even busy. This is a local business. I love supporting local businesses but this is so short sighted. What’s your response Snooty Fox. What’s your justification ? You’ve lost my custom. I’m not setting foot in there again.

Amazing service good selection of fillings

Last few times I visited this once lovey cafe I've been very disappointed. First of all the prices have gone up ridiculously high - almost £4 for a average size iced latte (full of ice so more like a small drink), 40p for a splash...

I visited this morning with my daughter for breakfast. I can honestly say it’s the best I’ve ever had. The ingredients were fresh, too quality and cooked perfectly. We were served quickly and the staff were wonderful

The Sneaky F's would be a better name with prices they charge. Personally, I like a decent sandwich or baguette and will happily pay, but they should wear stripy T-shirts with the prices at this place VS the quality they provide. Pros: Friendly staff, polite service, nice venue, decent setting Cons: Terrible food for the price - well overpriced

Greasy spoon quality food at Ivy prices. Bacon in the breakfast baguettes is pre-cooked and microwaved to warm it up. My wife asked for egg in her breakfast sandwich but was told the kitchen was extremely busy and it would take ages, despite there being fewer than 5 tables being served. Even the coffee is nothing to write home about. This place used to be heaving during lockdown but don't be deceived - it just rides off being in a good location for a walk/bike ride and being the only breakfast place in Shalford.

I was just there again this morning:) Meeting a friend after we'd been for a walk round the Surrey Hills. They have outdoor seating and lovely clean toilets. They have an app you can order through or order inside. It's in such a convenient location and all the parking around is free.

Was served by the most lovely barista yet during my travels! Matilda was a pleasure to meet, thanks for taking care of us.

Lovely coffee shop and cafe, great latte drunk out on the spacious pavement in the sunshine! Very friendly staff and the food looked delicious, although I did not fine that day.
