Lovely pub and most importantly dog friendly.

Was a delight to return to our favourite Pub/Restaurant for Saturday dinner. Our meal was superb, a Steak and Mushroom pie, wrapped in yummy shortcrust pastry, supplied with oodles of gravy in a jug, plus Spring greens, and superb big chips. A generous portion. Love this place. We got chatting to a great couple. If you happen to read this (Lawrence of Arabia and Emma from Bookham get in touch via Facebook). We would love to catch up again, perhaps a quiz at the Plough. (Mike and Janet Merrow Guildford). Do visit the Plough you will not be disappointed.

Nine members of our family met at the Plough for Sunday lunch. Everyone was able to find something they liked on the menu. The food was excellent! And the staff were very friendly and helpful! We will definitely be back again!

A nice pub with a good atmosphere, a traditional menu and reasonably priced food. Friendly staff, we were well looked after and served promptly with nice hot food and plenty of it. I would have liked to see a couple of veg/vegan dishes and I was surprised that when we ordered coffee there was no milk alternative. We were also surprised that although we ordered our coffees at 9pm we only just managed to be served as we were told the machine was going to be switched off! Could it not have been switched on or a kettle switched on. However, we did get our coffee, so the problem wasn't ours, but we weren't the last in the pub when we left at 10pm. Otherwise a good evening, but I would have to think twice about going again, only because of the veg/vegan options. I suffer from dairy and lactose allergy as well as a beef allergy which left me with nothing to have which wasn't going to cause me some problems. I know my allergies are not exactly common, but not to have oat milk at least is a mistake, I believe, as it's offered in so many other places. Nonetheless, my friends were well satisfied with the menu but were puzzled by the coffee issue.

The staff at the Plough are always welcoming and friendly and the table service is good. There wasn't gluten free vegan option available on the menu. At very short notice the chef made a delicious mushroom stew with new potatoes, greens and peas. It was well seasoned, good presentation and delicious. This is a real indicator that food is freshly cooked by the staff and that they know how to cook.

A really nice meal & quite a good choice for veggies too

Very enjoyable quiz night attracted a full house. Enjoyed a tasty burger with great chips, one of the 'small plates' on offer. My preference for chunky chips accommodated without question. On another occasions my meal of pork tenderloin went down particularly well.

Outstanding food and convivial atmosphere. Several of our guests, who were unfamiliar with The Plough commended the food very highly indeed.

Only one choice of real ale available and the opening hours were limited. Otherwise a comfortable pub

This is such a great pub, the food is always top notch and staff go above and beyond. We come for the quiz and it’s a great atmosphere. When we moved to the area we were hoping to find a nice local pub where we really felt welcome and this is it!

Fantastic Sunday lunch and the loveliest young staff serving us, absolutely charming! Their huge beer garden was also nice. The food was phenomenal and well-priced for a roast. Good range of beers including local Shere Drop.

Another great Sunday lunch. Always good to know somewhere that you know is consistently good both in food quality and service. The slow roasted pork loin is my favourite whilst my wife loves the nut roast which was tastefully moist and succulent. Peter and his young team were excellent. The young lad that was being trained was very attentive and polite, making us feel very looked after, well done.

Good selection of food but as ever the Fish & Chips was excellent. Fresh, not overly covered in batter and a very good choice. Good service from a small friendly team.

We visited The Plough yesterday for Mother's Day lunch. I must admit, our expectations were mixed as we knew it would be a really busy time to visit, but I have to say we were all totally impressed with everything. I had requested an extra seat two days previously and, although I wasn't told no, I got the feeling that it might be a bit of a squash! However, when we arrived, our table had been extended and I felt that the staff had gone above and beyond to accommodate us. We really couldn't fault the service at all and were impressed at the numbers of staff working to make the day run smoothly. Everything was perfect, especially the food which was really really good. We will definitely return!

As our local pub we really don’t come to you as often as we should - not sure why as yesterdays Sunday lunch was truly super - staff were friendly, you were dog friendly, atmosphere was relaxed and the Sunday lunch was scrumptious and really tasted great - will see you soon.

We came here for a late Sunday lunch and had an excellent veggie nut and mushroom roast. Staff were friendly and attentive and the pub had a nice cosy feel. Will definitely be back if in the area!

Good Sunday lunch. The place was really busy but the.service was excellent and quick. Extra gravy supplied when requested. We had 2x pork and 2x beef all really good. Delicious crumble and sticky toffee pudding to follow. Yum !!

First visit, excellent warm welcome. 3 specials and a sensible menu, sensibly priced with enough choice for us. We enjoyed all the food and the happy atmosphere. The pub could do with a bit of redecoration in parts but the warm friendly atmosphere made up for that. We’ll definitely return.

Nice pub with pleasant atmosphere. Food was a bit limited, no specials board and very limited for vegetarians. Food was nice but nothing to write home about.

This was my third trip to The Plough. The food is always good, and the team were very helpful in swapping out some items for dietary needs, while having a good range of gluten free options on the menu. We've eaten inside a few times, but I really enjoy the garden and live music in the summer, it is a great location to idle away an afternoon with friends and pooches. The bartenders and servers are always nice, even on busy days. Ruby the pooch is a delight.

Again, a Fantastic dinner! The smoked haddock dish on the new menu is a winner. Delicious. All enjoyed their food. Relaxed ambience and friendly efficient service. We'll be back soon. (The pub dog sitting next to me so sweetly was just an added bonus)!

Had a special for lunch. Well presented but very small portions. Expensive for what was provided.

Ambience and service were good but the big thing is the food, which was outstanding, both mains and pud. Must also mention the excellent pint of Shere Drop which made a great accompaniment to the main course.

Updating in response to owner reply: We visited recently as family of four for Sunday lunch. Unfortunately the menu we saw online was different to that offered on the day with no alternatives to roast dinner other than the children's menu (and weren't advised when we booked). My teenage son is a little too old for the children's menu and had wanted the fish and chips, but was told it wasn't possible. Overall the roast was better than we've had elsewhere (the roast beef was very good), however the parsnips were almost raw and one of the pork belly servings was mostly crackling and fat with hardly any meat (which it was hard to find as food was in a single pile on the plate). We were aware that the pub is dog-friendly and this isn't usually a problem, but there was a dog wandering around the pub, looking for and eating scraps from under our table as well as sitting on the furniture. Some of our party have allergies and also fear of dogs, so sadly didn't make for a comfortable atmosphere for us.

I visited this pub with my walking group. What a great place to stop. They already had set up tables for us and the food served was hot (sometimes we visit pubs and the food is cold because we’re a big group) and very tasty. I’m not vegan but I tried their vegan beans with peppers, avocado etc and it was stunning!

We could have used some assistance in getting a walking aid into and out of the pub. However the welcome was friendly, the food good although quite a wait for it and staff were helpful.

Very friendly service and a good menu with something for everyone. The specials were just that too, and good value. One niggle - i ordered a chicken and avocado sandwich and was a little surprised that the chicken was processed sliced chicken… would have thought it could be proper chicken breast but not a huge deal, just unexpected. will definitely be back soon!

Lovely welcoming pub with lots of locals. Food was delicious but table for four right next to bar so very noisy to try and talk and people kept pushing past. Would request a table on booking next time.

Booked for dinner here as it's dog friendly and we'd had a nice meal a few month ago. It did not disappoint: it was 'Pie Tuesday' and we had excellent Steak and Ale Pies. Squid starter was good too, and desserts. In fact we haven't found better food anywhere in the area yet. A resident dog plodded around delightfully.

My daughter and I had a really excellent lunch at The Plough Effingham yesterday. We could not fault either the food or the service and would thoroughly recommend this pub.

Lovely Sunday lunch as this pretty hidden pub - 20 mins from Leatherhead . First visit. Great choice of roasts (not all pubs do a lamb roast.) Great service, tasty food , desserts were fab too, dog-friendly. What’s not to love!

Booked lunch here to meet a friend so first visit. Not disappointed! Food was great with excellent vegetables to go with really tasty bangers and mash (Sausage week specials!) and homemade ice cream. Lovely surroundings and efficient friendly staff.

Went here to have lunch with family a couple years ago and it had a rustic almost tavern like atmosphere.

We were looking for a place for lunch near Polesden Lacey and chose The Plough based on reviews and menu. We weren’t disappointed, lovely meal, reasonably priced and great service from all the team.

Don't come for Sunday lunch. We've been here an hour and still no initial drinks, let alone any food. Seems to be only kids waiting and no communication at all. Just been informed no lamb roast which we ordered over 40 minutes ago. UPDATE Next day: have added one star to food which was ok and another star to overall as per below. We were told that the young lad had forgotten to pass the order ticket to the chef which was not great. This was the reason I had missed my lamb roast as other orders after mine meant it ran out. He was very apologetic but then didn't take care when putting the meals down and while apologising, poured some gravy off the plate edge over my wife's mobile. It was quickly retrieved and wiped and thankfully no damage. The food tasted ok although the burgers seemed light on fillings - beef patty, lettuce, gherkin and burger sauce - not even a tomato in sight. Run out of those too? The waitress in charge did take 10% off the bill at the end and apologised again. At least they recognised the poor service but I would much rather have a nice, tasty, organised meal at full price. Sadly, I won't be recommending this pub, maybe a quiet lunchtime as we have done once before might be the limit. Definitely not a Sunday lunch though. Note it wasn't just our table affected - one elderly couple had their meal delivered to the wrong table by another of the young lads, and shortly after, the same lad got a gentleman's beer order wrong not once but twice. Thankfully he seemed amused by it all.

The Plough is our local, and we're only a few minute's walk away. We had dinner there last night and it was delicious, as usual. The atmosphere is very relaxed, the staff are friendly and welcoming, and the food is great. There's also draught Shere Drop, a massive selection of gins, and Ruby the dog! Update December 2022 - had a very enjoyable family Christmas dinner at The Plough. My third festive meal this year and by far the best food, service and atmosphere. I had the white onion soup 🍲 followed by turkey 🐔 with all the trimmings and sticky toffee pudding 🍮to finish. A very nice bottle of Fleurie 🍷 made it even more special. Thanks to Pete and the team for making it so enjoyable. Update April 2023 - just had a delicious birthday lunch, yummy smoked haddock followed by apple and rhubarb crumble!

Once again our visit to The Plough at Effingham was fantastic. Sunday lunch roast pork and crackling with roasties and no less than four different vegetables. Beautifully cooked and presented. Followed by home made Malteaser ice cream!! Excellent value for money. We’ve tried all the pubs in and around the area and keep coming back to this one!

Nice food and good ale selection at sensible prices

Must have driven past this pub so many times but never dropped by until last night when I joined a business pal for dinner. It is a delight. Nice atmosphere, great beer, lovely food and prices that don't cause heart to quake. I will certainly go back there. Oh, nearly forgot, the welcome is genuine and warm - especially from the knowledgeable barman and the attentive and cheery waitress (13/09 evening - you know who you are!). Many thanks.

Decided to go out for a roast dinner today and with this pub being on the doorstep we thought we would give it a go. On arrival at 2pm we were shown to our table and given menus which had lamb crossed out. We ordered drinks then all asked for roast beef, the waiter went away and said let me check. He came back said no beef, lamb or pork so no roasts basically my partner said. Very disappointed as spend £15 on drinks if we had known there were no roasts we wouldn’t have made the decision to go elsewhere but instead this was not mentioned until after drinks were ordered and we tried to order our food. I think best way to do things is when customers arrive to advise them on what not on the menu so time and money is not wasted. Won’t be returning

A good location with excellent parking.we had lunch and the pork dish was very good. My wife had a great lamb disk and thought it was excellent. Very good desserts and excellent coffee. Would have been 5 star had we been seated in a quieter area. It was pretty noisy where we were seated.

Excellent food, with good choices for vegetarians/vegans. Very friendly and prompt service. Surprisingly busy for a Thursday lunchtime, which shows how popular it is - best to book. Nice buzz about the place without being too noisy. I have been a regular for years and the standard has always been high.

The Plough never dissapoints and my family have been frequenting since early 2000s. We booked for a lunch for 4 (2 adults and 2 teens). We had a lovely walk and rewarded ourselves with a lunch at the pub The staff are all very warm, helpful and professional. We had burgers, lamb and avocado, eggs and sourdough. All delicious with great portions. Highly recommend The Plough and will continue to frequent this absolute gem!

Service was terse verging on gruff! To be fair, they were very busy, but asking questions about food and drink options were met with monosyllabic replies...and they got the order wrong initially! Pity because the food was delicious.

Fabulous lunch - brie and tomato tart was delicious. Excellent friendly and efficient service. Highly recommend.

The two women at the bar were very hospitable. We came for lunch and sat outside. I got the Plough burger on a gluten free bun, she got the chicken toastie, and an order of the skinny fries. The burger was cooked to perfection! Fries were crispy. Weather was nice. Good food and great service. Definitely a must stop if you’re in town.

This is such a great pub. Wonderful to see it thriving with local supporters. No wonder. The food is great, the service attentive and they go the extra mile to come up with social initiatives such as their garden movie nights, charity bbq and brilliant quiz evenings. Book up and enjoy.

We visited for dinner on a busy Friday evening. We were late for our booking so called ahead and they happily pushed our reservation back by an hour. The whole place was buzzing, every table filled when we arrived. It was a great atmosphere. We were shown to our table and offered water, the service from young waiting staff was excellent. Three of us had the sea bream from the specials menu and one the burger from the main menu. The food was delicious, especially the sea bream. We all had desserts which were beautifully presented. Parking is easy and directly outside, the building is very pretty, we didn't see the garden but the interior has old world charm. If I lived nearer this would be a firm favourite for eating out.

Great food with a range of options for kids/those with smaller appetites and vegetarians. Staff are friendly and super accommodating. Lots of well behaved dogs, including Ruby, and generally a lovely atmosphere.

A friendly welcome on arrival and was told my friends had already arrived and they would bring my drink to the table. Splendid. An excellent menu, with a good variety. I had been before and opted for the burger (again!). Beautifully presented and extra sauces...

Lovely food tonight. Service by Annabelle and Paula was first class....well done ladies. Food lovely but please add extra desserts...brownies, cheesecake for a change. Should make one end for dog owners and restaurant for no pets. Anyone I speak to doesn't go because of this. Not everyone wants dogs around them when eating (as much as we love them).

Another great meal. Took my brother in law who is visiting from Thailand. He us very fussy but really enjoyed the sausage and mash! Ordered the goats cheese and butternut squash Wellington which I had a few weeks ago and cannot highly recommend! Great local and very friendly, helpful staff.
