Great portions. Great food. Love the salad! Also dinner to take away is perfect. Massive portion with massive gravy tub also.

Lovely lunchtime meal , cosy pub

Cosy, welcoming local pub with a good atmosphere and great staff. Nothing too much trouble, always cheerful, I've enjoyed many home cooked Sunday roasts and Saturday dinners here and cannot fault.

Food was amazing, service was top quality, recommended, had the wagyu burger and was delicious, we will be back

Superb food , good service and a genuinely great pub

Try this pub! The chef here absolutely knows what they are doing. The menu was the usual pub fare with a bit of flare… but it came out extremely delicious! I’m writing this review at the table because I didn’t want to forget to do it, this place deserves every inch of the 5 stars we’ve given. Clearly a local favourite as well as for us passers by. Too many pubs these days focus on style over substance, this cosy “traditional” pub has been left well alone and all the focus appears to be in serving the customers extremely well with reasonable food and drink and a warm friendly atmosphere. Wrote this review as soon as I’d finished my food as I didnt want to forget to give credit where its 100% due.

Just popped in before long journey home great pint of Guinness and the food was proper hearty home cooked I’ve had the Welsh chicken with leak and cream sauce just waiting on the fudge cake 👍 I’ll be back 👍👍👍

Really great experience from start to finish. Sirloin steak from the grill menu. Cooked to perfection....Service was excellent by a really friendly young waitress....Will definitely be back for more..

We love this pub. The food is always delicious and plentiful but for us it’s the service and atmosphere we love the most. A great, traditional pub with amazing staff. Leaving the area after a few months stay and we’ll miss the Smiths for sure.

We had the teriyaki salmon which was on the specials board and it was cooked to perfection - please make it a permanent on your menu. Theres a great choice of vegetarian meals and they’re very tasty.

A super find off the A40 so the sign on the dual carriageway works. The Crab sandwiches were first class and mine Host very pleasant

We’re staying with family just a few doors away from the pub and we’ve eaten here twice so far! Beautiful food and friendly atmosphere pretty much sums it up! Chips like my mum used to make and that’s a good thing! Well worth a visit.

Lovely friendly welcome by the staff,nice variety on the menu. One of the best steaks cooked to perfection,homemade chips. Definitely will be returning.

We were looking for a pub/restaurant not too far away from where we were staying near Llanedi, as we wanted to treat our grandson & his girlfriend to a celebratory meal for his 21st birthday. There were lots to choose from but I am delighted to say that we made the right choice ! As it was a hot, sunny evening the pub was very busy, inside & outside, fortunately we had booked a table ! This was nicely positioned by the window with plenty of room for the four of us. In spite of the pub being so full of people we were attended to straight away & we thought the staff were friendly & efficient . It was a lovely relaxed atmosphere. There was a really good selection on the menu and we all chose different meals, and we didn’t have to wait very long for them to arrive. All our food was hot, nicely presented & delicious……. clean plates all round ! (We enjoyed our drinks too !) A very successful “treat”.👍🏼 We will definitely return to The Smiths Arms when we are next in the area. Many thanks

Fabulous Sunday lunch, choice of meats and loads of veg

Have being there twice now for food ,.It was absolutely fantastic the food the bar workers and the people serving us .Would highly recommend this place as everything is spot on .Thankyou chef for our lovely meal and thank you to all the other staff for making it so welcoming .

First time in this area and chose this place for a sit down meal never been here before and my god they did not disappoint the food was outstanding. As an ex chef the flavours were great fantastic and you can just tell it’s home made. Excellent hospitality. And the little young lady who took away our dishes as we finished asked how she our food was to found out she told us her mum was the chef it was refreshing to see how proud she was of her mum. Staff were lovely and friendly also. Iff we’re in the area again we will be back.

Really great selection of classic Welsh food. Warm and inviting inside with fire roaring Lots of locals. Good prices and nice portions. I had the mint lamb burger. Delicious! My wife loved the Welsh chicken. Will be back for sure

Booked for mother's day lunch and was not disappointed. There were 3 sittings, we booked for 2.30pm sitting. Table was laid ready for us, staff were attentive. Drinks order was taken at the table, then quickly were provided with choices for starters and main meals. We skipped starters hoping to have room for desserts. Didn't need to wait long for main courses and were not disappointed, vegetables had been plated onto plate, luckily we all liked the veg provided - swede, carrots, parsnips, roast and mashed potato's and peas. Cauliflower cheese was provided separately. Must comment on very big portion size, was too much for my daughter and I but husband managed to eat all his portion. Plenty of selection of desserts and was have to recommend the raspberry and white chocolate cheesecake. With only living about 20 mins away we will definitely be revisiting. Have to comment professionalism of staff with it being mothers day and each table taken the service was quick and efficient

We stopped here on our way to West Wales, and didn’t really expect much. The food was excellent, though! It was also nice and warm due to a log burner on a horribly rainy day. I’d certainly recommend this pub for food if you’re in the area.

We have visited here twice now over the past month as a group of family / friends. On both occasions, staff were friendly, helpful and attentive. Good was served in a timely manner and enjoyed by all. Meals fairly priced too! Definitely recommend the salads!! Huge and tasty. The pub is well supported by locals and seems to have built a good rappour in the community. A good little gem to have in the village of foelgastell. Have already recommended to friends and will be revisiting soon!!

Called in for a quick lunch. As usual the food was excellent. Great selection of specials along with traditional favorites from the menu. Food arrived within 10 minutes and was hot and home cooked

There is always a warm welcome here with friendly staff. Large portions and the gravy is always good ! Just a bit sad that the salt and pepper shakers always look a bit grubby. Home made desserts are lovely

Website wants updating, says serving food 12-2.30pm on website, drove there, arrived at 1pm it was closed, sign says only open at 5pm, disappointing

It was very crammed and disorganised with long waits between service. Food was home made Sunday dinner - there were huge portions of mash and swede dominating the plate and the child's plate wasn't fit for purpose with no edges and food was falling off the sides on arrival. Small tweaks here and there would do it. Reasonably priced and overall friendly environment.

called in without booking, they sorted out a table for us straight away even though they were very busy the service was great the staff were very friendly and the food was really nice will definitely go back if we are anywhere near

Exceptional Sunday lunch more food than anyone could manage

On Saturday the pub starts serving food at 5pm. It has an ample parking. Good selection of food and drinks. For starter I had a tasty cockle with laverbread and for the main a decent size of lamb shank which was really tender, the mash was nice and creamy. Staff were really friendly and food was served in no time. Waiters and waitresses were really young, basically kids, but all of them were up for the job. Honestly, I raise my hat to them. Good to see that not all the new generation is just all about the PS5 and they are actually keen to work and earn. Well done guys.

Stopped in on our journey, a lovely stop, food was really good, service good, friendly and welcoming. All accompanied by a nice guest ale. Would highly recommend.

Sunday Lunch Treated my sister to Sunday lunch at this pub last week. Heard so many good things about it in the past, which is now not the case. Firstly the place needs a good refurbishment, tired, miserable decor. The food arrived quickly, that was the only merit. Huge plate( which put me off for a start). A large portion of swede and mashed potato dominated the other food which reminded me of school dinners. Small amount of meat, and something that resembled gravy. Two good things, good staff and the food was hot. Disappointed in the whole experience, especially as I’d recommended this pub to my sister. Spoiled our day

Brilliant place, good food great staff, very helpful. They do not have rooms anymore, downside they advertise that they do. Otherwise 5* however, the staff phoned around to try to find me somewhere. Spot on. I will return, thank you for your hospitality. You were great.

Lovely takeaway Sunday dinner. Ordered ahead and picked up. Absolutely stunning, meat just fell apart. Wasn't a fan of the gravy but as I was home I made some bisto. But would definitely recommend and will be ordering again.

Four of us ate here on two occasions on our four day trip to see family. This is a favourite eating place of our family and we could see why. Great menu with plenty of choice. Great staff. Loved it.

I recently took a group of 20 bowlers from Newport (Gwent) to play a bowls match in Carmarthen. We stopped for lunch on the way at the Smith's Arms. I had previously arranged the meals we wanted, and found staff very cooperative in this. When we arrived, tables were arranged for us, and after time to get drinks the meals were served. The service was excellent and any particular requirements were quickly catered for. The food itself was first rate. It was tasty and plentiful and the silence whilst we ate illustrated this well! We then tackled a range of super puddings; I had apple pie and custard, but would have happily had any of the other items on offer! Throughout, staff kept checking that all was well and did we need anything extra. On finishing, we struggled back to the coach! Playing bowls that afternoon wasn't the easiest thing, but it had all been worth it! When our fixtures are arranged for 2023, the first this I shall do is contact The Smith's Arms to make sure a table is available for us next year!!

What a gorgeous meal, beautiful creamy mushrooms starter and an unusual chicken dish and homemade chips which were just delicious. The Welsh Rarebit starter is to die for. A unique taste of Wales. Good hearty food, generous portions and hot at the right price. Good staff.

This pub had an extensive menu and all 4 of us had something different. All of us thoroughly enjoyed our food and the waiting staff were very attentive.

Where to start...amazing food, large.portions, excellent value great service lovely interior. The outside may make you think how csn it be that good but believe me it is. Its so good that we drove an hour out of our way to go back. Fantastic. We'll be back soon.
