Just spent a week in St Ives. Sloop Inn is a cute pub in a great location. Sadly the staff don’t match up. Unwelcoming and uninterested in doing their job. Despite being out of season and quiet it was difficult to get served. They were more interested in talking to each other with their backs to the customer. Didn’t return as there are plenty of other much more welcoming pubs in St Ives!

*Hygiene and food safety needs to be improved!!!* We have always enjoyed the Sloop whilst on our annual visit to St Ives. However, this year around we had an unpleasant surprise whilst trying to enjoy our former beloved Sloop Steak. Towards the end of our meal, my partner grabbed my attention and pointed out that she had almost eaten what seemed to be a metal wire. I am not one at all to complain when at restaurants and I can honestly say this is my first time writing a review and having ever complained whilst eating anywhere. I complained to the staff about this due to the severity of injury that could have come from ingesting a thick wire. The staff seemed unfazed and when the supervisor came to our table 15 minuites later, she seemed completely unbothered about the seriousness of the situation. We were offered free drinks but refused as we were not in it to get free items, but purely to make them aware that they need to ensure that their food is fit for customers to eat. Thinking back now, the wire would have most likely been a bristle off of a wire grill cleaning brush. These accounts are all over the Internet and the severity of injury and complications with removing these bristles from the body are very difficult. We will not be eating at the Sloop again any time soon until this matter is amended and better hygiene and safety is put in place in the kitchen. Please be careful when eating at the Sloop as others have also suffered such instances with their food.

We didn't stay at the hotel side, just went there for the meal. Staff worked hard to get you served, but on this busy day I didnt feel the Welcome you feel in some pubs and Inns.

Fantastic mini break with my mum in St Ives! Mum had stayed here before 20 years ago so I knew it would be lovely. Stayed in a twin room which was small but what we expected, full of character, clean, fresh, and had all that we needed. It was also a great, convenient location for everything. Dined in The Captain's Table Restaurant which was warm, cosy, friendly and had cute fairy lights adorning the low ceiling and beams. The staff were lovely, efficient and attentive, and the food was delicious with a pretty varied menu. Also had breakfast, as it was booked as a B and B, and this was also tasty, generous and the staff were friendly and service fantastic! Will definitely stay there again. Thank you all for making our stay so welcoming and memorable.

We've been going to the sloop for many years and it's become more or less part of a tradition to go there for a drink.Me and ma went at lunch time and just wanted a sandwich to share, we ordered a crab sandwich which when it came was just a sandwich with some watercress on a warm plate , there was more watercress in the sandwich than crab.We were so disappointed. We had a wine, an orange juice and lemonade and the sandwich , it was £30!! We don't mind paying the price for something good but this was not good.Gutted to be giving this review 🥲 We're not tourists , we live in Hayle so quite regular to St Ives.

Although the meal was tasty it sadly was over priced for the quality. I ordered the fish cakes served with sea salt fries & salad well it was fries (McDonald’s are as good) and cress no salad! When asked if the meal was ok I asked where my salad was as I had some pea shoots the barman told me it was cress 😂, No apologies just I’ve had your money put up with it! No wonder all the businesses are saying how quiet it is everyone is going aboard again!

So on our first night in St Ives we thought we'd visit the famous Sloop Inn for a few drinks and some food! I'm really sorry Sloop but as soon as I walked in I knew I couldn't eat in there - it was so grubby and the tables were sticky, wet and full of other peoples glasses. Needless to say we didn't return. It really needs a good clean!

I'm absolutely guttered at the state of the Sloop. We've been coming to the Sloop for years (20+ years!!) and unfortunately it's just gone completely downhill. 1. There are now plungers in the ladies toilets covered in... you know what... 2. Menu is now completely over priced for what you get. 3. The ICONIC Sloop Club Sandwich is GONE!! 4. Men's toilets absolutely stink of urine even when just walking past. 5. Drinks are now expensive as hell! 6. The pub was completely empty inside (every October it's been busy and full and now it's just a dead atmosphere). 7. It seems to have been bought by a company that's stripped the "traditional" cornish pub vibe away. I'm honestly absolutely guttered. I hope the management will see this and know that my whole family of 10 will be so upset to see the Sloop in a completely different light. Honestly, one of the highlights of our holiday was coming to the Sloop to have a Sloop Club Sandwich. (Yes, I know it sounds petty and dramatic, but christ the Sloop Club was bloody beautiful!!!) In all honesty, the Sloop Club lost out on a hell of a lot of money today. "If it's not broke, don't fix it".

The Sloop Inn offers comfortable accommodation and there are often offers such as 3 nights for the price of 2, or 7 nights for the price of 5. Breakfast is included either in the pub or in their restaurant above the pub - but beware of the low ceilings! The breakfasts are excellent and there are choices so something for all tastes. Evening meals in the pub are expensive and drinks especially so, but it’s the atmosphere you’re paying for - remember The Sloop is over 1000 years old! The toilets in the pub are not to be recommended, but those in the rooms are immaculate and the rooms are serviced daily. For me it’s a home from-home and I visit several times every year, in fact I’m going again next week…

The Sloop used to have a strong local feel to it, but over the years its become run down smelly and very very bloody expensive. The staff have a hard job keeping up with who to serve next as the bar goes across two rooms. No one really knows where to queue. Unless you run your own business or have made your money "up country" It's not a place you can afford to go and meet up with friends. Sadly this place is set up as a tourist trap as it has amazing views if you sit outside. They have also taken up a very large area of the harbour front now with their benches, meaning that you have to purchase a very expensive item in order to sit on the harbour front these days. As you can imagine other businesses in the area have followed suit. St Ives business owners seem intent on pricing local people out of town

Arrived late in town and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful Jane, Aidan and another member of staff especially who managed to sort us a sandwich when the kitchen had closed would highly recommend, the pub itself is a bonus

From booking this was a great experience. We pre-booked the food for our party of 9 from the Xmas party night menu. The menu was great, it had something for everyone. When we arrived the table was laid out beautifully. All the food arrived as booked, service was friendly and efficient. The dishes looked and tasted delicious (we had the 5 courses). Our congratulations and thanks go to the chef and his team. The evening finished with live music, enjoyed by everyone. We will be back for more please.

Excellant customer service and really helped me by taking me drink to the table as I was struggling.
