The Sloop Inn offers comfortable accommodation and there are often offers such as 3 nights for the price of 2, or 7 nights for the price of 5. Breakfast is included either in the pub or in their restaurant above the pub - but beware of the low ceilings! The breakfasts are excellent and there are choices so something for all tastes. Evening meals in the pub are expensive and drinks especially so, but it’s the atmosphere you’re paying for - remember The Sloop is over 1000 years old! The toilets in the pub are not to be recommended, but those in the rooms are immaculate and the rooms are serviced daily. For me it’s a home from-home and I visit several times every year, in fact I’m going again next week…

The Sloop used to have a strong local feel to it, but over the years its become run down smelly and very very bloody expensive. The staff have a hard job keeping up with who to serve next as the bar goes across two rooms. No one really knows where to queue. Unless you run your own business or have made your money "up country" It's not a place you can afford to go and meet up with friends. Sadly this place is set up as a tourist trap as it has amazing views if you sit outside. They have also taken up a very large area of the harbour front now with their benches, meaning that you have to purchase a very expensive item in order to sit on the harbour front these days. As you can imagine other businesses in the area have followed suit. St Ives business owners seem intent on pricing local people out of town

The Sloop has a great olde worlde pub vibe and we have visited many times. The last time we had the 2 steaks with wine included deal was in the summer of 2023 and it was wonderful. Home cooked chunky chips with a lovely blue cheese sauce. This time we had frozen chips and a creamy (but not cheesy) sauce, quite disappointed really. We visited on a wet, cold evening when it was less busy (there had been queues all week for tables both inside and outside). Before we could enter the cordened off pub, apart from having to provide the track and trace information which is mandatory, we also had to order our drinks and pay whilst standing outside of the cordon, in the cold, rain and dark before the staff would show us to a table. The female member of staff and a male member were barking instructions and questions at us re the track and trace and our order. It felt like they were doing us a favour by serving us. Once inside I visit the toilet and as I mistakenly breached the one way system (which was not obvious to non-regulars) the same male member of staff 'instructed' me where to walk, which included going back outside in the dark, cold and rain and to re-enter through the corden again. There were two couples who were on holiday together as a group who came to sit in the area of the pub where we were which was not busy, had empty tables and which only had us in the area - the staff made them split up and sit on two separate tables across the room from each other. A member of staff was rude to my husband when he stood in a door way of one of the rooms whilst trying to locate the gents. It is important that we have covid measures and that they are followed but the staff appear to have put some things in place that are of their own making and the adherence to these was leading to the staff being rude to the customers and was spoiling the experience for the customers.

We frequent St Ives and have always enjoyed going to the Sloop for drinks in the past - not anymore. They have the most insane test and trace measures in place that we've seen anywhere. Before even being permitted to sit in the outdoor area, we had to use the NHS app to sign in (and shockingly, PROVE that we'd signed in by showing the somewhat patronising woman guarding the gate our recent NHS check-ins within the app on our phone). They don't have the simple pen and paper method that everywhere else employs - if you don't use the app, you have to TEXT this employee the names of everyone in your party. This seems crazy, and raises questions about privacy and data security.Unfortunately the magic has been taken out of this place and we will not be returning until something changes. I know that this is a stressful time for everyone but there are currently much more pleasant venues for drinks in St Ives than the Sloop.

We were so excited by online reviews and ready for the olde world charm, but red flags appeared before we even got in. The lovely couple in front of us, as we all queued safely due to the pandemic, were being treated oddly but we thought it was them? 5 to 10 mins of the front of house guy going back and forth, leaving them waiting with no info. When they finally got in, we discovered it was in fact him. He was unbelievably rude and contrary, and made us feel extremely uncomfortable. When we did get in and sat down, my boyfriend saw I was on the edge of tears so said let's leave. We tried to go out the way we came in - and this is 30 seconds after being sat down - and the same guy didn't even flinch or ask why we were leaving or acknowledge how rude he had been. We slipped out the back but not before seeing him treating the lovely family behind us the exact same way. He needs some serious training in people skills or to be put behind the bar. He almost ruined our evening. We saw other couples later in the same pub as us down the way (treated us lovely) we all shared how shocked we had been at the guy from the Sloop Inn. He was why we had all separately decided to leave. Such a shame how one man can have such a bad ripple effect.

Breakfast was included with our stay in the captains table which was a lovely room upstairs , low beams which you would expect... the staff for breakfast were on the ball and it was delicious , nothing was too much trouble, and the young lady was local and full of information of the area(thankyou) ... we have no faults to say about our stay and will definitely return

We visited on the 15th October, menu choice was very good, food was very good, staff very attentive, excellent service. All the years we’ve been going down to St Ives, first time ate at the Sloop in, yes would definitely go back. Overall a friendly welcoming Captains table restaurant, separate from the Pub side of the business, worth while giving it a try, the food will not disappoint you.

My husband has been coming to St Ives since he was a child and has many happy memories and stories of times at the Sloop Inn as an 18 year old, so he was really keen to take me to his favourite pub in St Ives. It’s a very popular pub. Due to Covid, drinkers seem to be limited to outside tables only and there was constantly a queue for this popular pub. We waited about 15 minutes but it was totally worth it.We ended up staying for several pints of fabulous Rattler cider. We were blessed with a fabulous busker and lots of laughs due to a particularly high tide that evening (several punters got totally soaked so be careful about which table you accept).A big thumbs up from us!

We have been regular visitors to St Ives over the past 25 years and have always made a point of soaking up the atmosphere over a pint at the Sloop. Unfortunately, during our last two visits, we have been really disappointed with the service and have been made to feel really unwelcome. We are very well aware that the staff are having to operate under strict government guidelines with regard to Covid 19, but that should not mean they treat their customers like a huge inconvenience. In particular I feel the young man in a skull face mask should be named and shamed for his downright rude attitude. Everywhere else we visited was able to politely remind customers about Covid rules without a fuss, but this young man seems to enjoy barking orders at people at the top of his voice, creating a very tense and unenjoyable atmosphere. We won't be returning any time soon.

Visited again for a crab sandwich which was really tasty but a lot more expensive than I remember previously.

So my partner (head of Information Governance and Data Protection Officer) and me (Dep Director of IT NHS) could not eat here as the sloop has adopted the test and trace app as the only mechanism to allow customers in, incorrectly citing on the poster outside that it is law! No exceptions (my father couldn’t eat here as he does not own a smartphone). Since the person outside said it’s the safest way to store data (is it GDPR compliant? Safe? If I asked, would they know where and for how long the data is stored...???). So we headed into town and had the BEST pie thank God we were forced to hunt out the Firehouse. Who, simply ask for name and contact number which is the law, not insisting it’s law to use the app.

Just visited the sloop pub with my two pugs one of which is a 10 week old puppy. They have a policy which says no dogs on seats which I totally get but had my 10 week old puppy on my knee whom already had a jumper on as she was shivering and was sternly told to put her on the floor which is a cold stone floor!she was not on any furniture she was on my knee and the the attitude of the staff member was appalling. Very rude and condescending! Walked out leaving half our drinks and will definately not be back ! Need to use their common sense and have a better attitude towards the paying customer !
