I emailed on Monday to book a table as a suprise meal for my husband birthday on the Friday. We arrived early and had a few drinks in the bar before going through to the restaurant, very friendly, customers and staff, Extremely helpful and sharing recommendations of the area. Once through to the restaurant the staff had surprised us with a decorated table and a badge for my husband. It was a lovely thoughtful suprise. I would highly recommend the Portreath Arms, food, staff, regulars all very friendly and the food was AMAZING

Poor experience today and terrible customer service. I am local in the village and have been using this bakery for many years. I was embarrassed and ashamed today . A holiday maker greeted the staff member with a very cheerful hello. This was met with a blank stare from the shop worker who did not even acknowledge the gentleman. When it came to my turn in the queue, I had a query about something to which I received an abrupt, sarcastic and to be honest rude reply. We rely on our visitors for their business and a smile, welcome, and a cheery hello costs nothing. Please take note, Portreath Bakery, your staff really let you down today. You are a long established business but do not get complacent.

My wife and I have frequented this place for at least 30 years.we went tonight to celebrate our 57th wedding anniversary. We waited 45 minutes for our Main Course only meal, both had the Ribeye steak. We both know the correct complaints procedure especially as I am an ex cook. 1 steak was overdone but hot the other was nicely cooked but almost cold. Having waited 45 minutes for the first try we did not wish wait any longer, so we got on with it. Given that this is the premier dish on their menue you would expected more care to have been taken. We did make our observations quite clear. No remuneration or comment was made when presented with the Bill. Good luck you lot??

We always call into the bakery to buy pasties when we visit relatives in Porthtowan, but we did not realise that you could order them online for home delivery. We therefore tried this service for the first time this week. The ordering process was very easy (including payment via PayPal) and ten large steak pasties duly arrived by courier the next day. They were packed in a polystyrene box which ensured that they were kept cool, and full cooking instructions were also provided. An excellent service which we will certainly use again.

I agree with others. The pasties are great. Thin crispy crusts and lots of meat. Stuffed with fillings not just potatoes and vegetables. Steak and stilton had just been cooked and beat any pastie from Padstow which are stodgy and pastry for the tourists . Bought four pain au chocolat, they were so disappointing, they not only tasted stale but the light, puffy, buttery melting morsels we were expecting were leaden and stale tasting: a truly vile version of a French treat. Have visited this bakery several times as I live in the village, each time I hope for an improvement but I feel I cannot give this place any further chances, they have various items displayed on plates on top of the glass counter, I have been in the shop and seen a customer leaning over to the card machine to pay and resting his armpit on a plate of croissants! I pointed this out to the staff and no-one was particularly interested, they certainly didn't dispose of the pastries. Same with bacon rolls: all cooked and left to go cold and displayed on top of the counter open to everyone breathing, coughing and sneezing over them..oh and if you order a bacon roll it isn't served freshly made, it's a cold one, made hours earlier and microwaved-lovely! Cornish pasties are not a favourite of mine (shock, horror) but these are even worse than usual, the usual grey nuggets of rubber masquerading as beef along with swede (oh joy) and potato encased in geriatric shoe leather...what a treat...avoid this bakery at all costs, they take no pride in their produce or their customer service.

The bakery is run by a local business called Made Marion, which is a specialist in gluten-free and good quality baked goods. we had high hopes for the gluten-free foods yet found that most of them are based on wheat. Even though it is labelled as 'de-glutinated' wheat it is an allergen nevertheless and may aggravate many patients' condition. Most of the gluten-free fare also contains dairy so I was nearing to break down in tears having travelled all this way only to find there is nothing I could have. Luckily, there was a freezer with some Swiss rolls which turned out to be both gluten and dairy free. I tried the jam one and the lemon one, the sponge in the jam one was more a thick pancake (disappointing texture) while the lemon one was far too sweet.

I have been resident in the area for many years and since I work nearby I travel to Portreath for lunch breaks. Today, for the fourth time I have been sold a piece of cake that's simply not fit to eat - unless of course you like yours dry and hard to swallow. They give you your money back and apologise but really nothing seems to change. I can't see how it's possible for something as basic as cake to be so difficult to get right! Obviously the ones I've been given have been stale, there's no other plausible explanation. A word of caution - avoid cakes or anything that could be stale. Pasties seem o.k. but then again they're hopefully made fresh and heated. Come on, Porttreath Bakery, start getting it right - you sell bread pudding anyway so make something imaginative out of the stale cakes. Needless to say I won't be buying any more confectionary with bus passes !!

We were told that this is an award winning bakery so our expectations were high.. artisan bread, croissants, etc. Or so we imagined. The bread looked bog standard so we stuck to the mediocre supermarket loaf. They had put out samples of different cakes and pastries which sadly all tasted stale so that really backfired as it put us off. Jam donuts were ok. The pasties (classic steak) were good - as good as any I've had outside Cornwall. But the rest was average at best! It's the only bakery in town so we did go back.
