Don't bother, staff can't be bothered - rude patrons (a complete nob). Much friendlier pubs with better service and beer just down the road.

Paid for a deluxe double room which was tiny, so small in fact that they forgot it was there! Lovely welcome pack and box of chocolates to greet us. Only ate there one night, Valentines Day. The restaurant was quite busy but not full. We had to wait over an hour for our dinner, the staff mostly ignored us. Despite being asked to pre-order our meals we waited for a long time to be served, had to ask for drinks, staff bypassed us, never offered to take an order and after over an hour we had to ask where our dinner was? We watched others that arrived after us eating their food. Weren't offered a free drink or some bread as an apology, although we were asked if we'd had our bread by a waitress as she whizzed by, serving other people? We hadn't ordered any, nor did we get any. Our room never got serviced even though we told them twice, 2 different members of staff, on the first 2 days they forgot us. We had to ask for milk and toilet roll but it still didn't get done. No fresh drinking water or clean towels, bed was never made or bathroom cleaned, so on the 3rd day we left and came home a day early. Didn't bother to check out as they obviously wouldn't notice!

I had a day at seaton planned with a friend I hadn’t seen for ages. My suggestion to go to Inn on the Shore for lunch. Last time (last management) it was lovely. My error was that I didn’t book and so sadly we couldn’t have lunch. My fault and no problem. So whilst having a lovely day we still ordered 2 pints and 3x cheesy chips (as we were hungry and from a distance they looked small) £30.60. I looked at the receipt to find the cheesy chips was £6.50 each! What turned up was three shallow small olive dishes. Basically all three was the equivalent of one normal portion of cheesy chips which therefore cost £19.50! £19.50 for a reasonable portion of cheesy chips. This is pure greed from the current owner/tenant whoever they are. I use to run a pub and know how hard it is but this is approx a 2000% mark up. Whether in 3 small portions or 1 reasonable portion. It ruined our buzz for the day as it wasn’t just bad human behaviour, we were ripped off and I was really embarrassed I had suggested to go there. I wrote to them directly to complain rather than public, as I couldn’t believe this was their ethos/modus operandi and I’ve heard nothing back. I certainly won’t go back there. I still feel angered by their greed and poor judgement of their customers intelligence. I am fairly local (SE Cornwall). I’ll be looking out for when it changes hands once again, whilst they don’t give a monkeys.

Would love to have had food here but when I went to enquire I was told that they only serve food to locals. Felt totally unwelcome and discriminated against. Not the first time on this trip we were asked if we were locals and it has really put me off visiting Cornwall ever again. I am from the Lake District and so understand the challenges of living somewhere popular with tourists but we would never be so rude and unwelcoming to visitors.

Amazing food and service at the Inn on the Shore. From the moment we arrived we felt so welcomed by the staff and received a full break down of the menus including the lunch time deal which I have to say was fantastic. I had Ham, egg and chips which was lovely and my wife the steak on sourdough, would highly recommend both. The food was amazing. We stayed here for 3 nights and had a great time. The decor is shades of blue and grey, shabby chic style. The room was small, very small, but clever design ensured we had everything you'd expect and the view of the beach and the crashing waves was stunning. All the servers were lovely and very attentive to my partner's wheat and dairy free diet. The carefully curated menu covered most tastes and there are clearly people in the kitchen who really care about food. For me it was a little too fancy but I have this problem in most restaurants. It really was a 5* experience but I will just add one remark about the size of the room, called Tregantle. It is so small that anyone with even a minor mobility issue, suh as being overweight, would have trouble accessing the bed on the window side. If this is you, check at time of booking.

On arrival I had loads of bags and a dog trying to be clever and avoid too many trips. The young woman who greeted me with a smile immediately found my key and took the dog bed up to the room. The room (Downderry) had spectacular views and there was a pair of binoculars which was thoughtful and fun. Dinner was good and breakfast excellent. There was interesting mix of locals in the bar and lots of dogs! All behaved and friendly. I was interested in how this would be, as the reviews I read were varied. I could not fault the staff and service. I think the owners are quite new and have plans to improve the place, but for me it was lovely as it was.

Booked a 'superior' room on Booking.com and got a very mediocre cramped room with no space to move on the one side of a standard double bed. Despite a lovely gesture of toiletries in a bag on the bed- there was no sign of listed 'wine or champagne'. The small road leading to the Inn was dreadful and nothing else was open in the village, bar a restaurant that may have opened in the evening. Management was aware of the misleading advertising and unsympathetic saying if she had known the day before she would have arranged another room and said it was an ongoing issue with Booking.com- that they had not resolved. The breakfast was good, as was the view... bar for a dog in the dining room that the owner fed by dropping food on the floor for it to eat. Disappointing... but there are 2 other pubs nearby in Seaton Beach. Some cleaning in the window frames wouldn't go amiss and fix the curtain-this costs nothing? I do feel sorry for the owners about the damp that is spoiling reasonably good finishings in the plaster peeling...

Lovely spot overlooking the see. Had the beef roast on a Sunday, which was served with a lot of tasty veg. Also had the fish and chips a different day. As much as I look forward to having fish and chips, majority of times I regret it afterwards as it’s usually just pure grease on a plate. Not here. Fish tasty. Batter nice and non greasy. On top of that the people behind the bar and serving the food were extremely smiley and friendly. Well done staff and chef at the Inn On The Shore!!!

Having eaten here a few months ago we decided to go back. Last time the food was nice and was priced reasonably. Situated right over the beach it was nice for a drink outside before moving indoors to eat. This time however we were too late to eat but was told we could get some chips. Pint of cider, bacardi and coke, 2 packets of pork scratchings and 2 small pots of chips ( and they were small ) this was over £24. !!! I felt like i had been robbed. Poor band playing with a lead singer who was monotone and didn’t start until 9pm. We won’t rush back.

We only came here after spending time on Seaton beach and then being told by the nearby pub that we’d wait nearly an hour for our food. We saw the IOTS from the beginning of Downderry beach and driving through the village we just spotted the sign and we’re then lucky to get a parking space. We walked down the side and out onto the sea facing wooden terrace which was sweltering but dogs were welcome inside and food was being served throughout the day. Amazing how big this place is especially on the western inside seafacing dining room. But the bar area which had an attractive feel was warming up. We went through to a near empty back space and readied to order only to be overwhelmed by the multistench from the gents loos. But we were rescued by one of the smart relaxed friendly young staff who cared us back into the main bar area, where remarkably a light refreshing breeze through the doors was doing its magic. We bought four options from the lunch menu and a pint or two of some palatable ale we’d never heard of but which was deftly and sincerely marketed by the bar staff because the Tribute barrel needed changing. Our dog settled, we relaxed and surprisingly quickly our four small plates arrived. All very tasty. Dog was peaceful, only barking when a laid back old lady told him how smart he looked. The pub was in a an affable mood. Chunks of the dining area were empty but this is the first week of the low season so things were still healthy. The mood and the food are good. We were treated well. We shall come back. Apparently the present management are comparatively new. If they carry on as they are, perhaps with some minor tweaking it will do very well.

We have been visiting this pub during our frequent holidays to the area for around 4/5 years. Whilst we have always enjoyed a drink here especially outside with the fantastic sea view, we have on occasion been disappointed by the food so more often than not have avoided eating here. However, since the new management team have been in place we have noticed a dramatic difference for the better and we couldn’t be more pleased! During our 16 day trip we have eaten here many times including a fantastic Sunday roast, took advantage of the Wednesday night supper club and many meals and snacks in between. The food is fantastic now and great value for money. The staff are really friendly and attentive and genuinely appear to be pleased that you are visiting. The management are visible and steering the ship in the right direction. It has a much better feel about the place for tourists and locals alike. We decided to extend our holiday and have a final two days staying at the pub. The room was very comfortable, clean and welcoming. The bed was really comfortable and the breakfast included was delicious. Finally this lovely pub is getting the love and attention it deserves. We can’t wait to return.

Service very poor, ignored us, no choice given on ciders even though several stocked, no knowledge of menu, no warning of cooking time. Food took ages and then was lukewarm, saute potatoes burnt, chips dry and over cooked, trout undercooked, lamb chewy. Restaurant was not even that busy. No water brought to table as requested. Staff didn't even check if food was ok even after complaint about the wait. Manager was defensive but did reduce the bill by over half. Left hungry and didn't bother with deserts.

Staff were lovely....quite a long wait for food and they forgot one of only 3 drinks ordered and i had to go and ask for it.Cod and chips and ham egg and chips were quite nice although chips were quite dry. I had wild mushrooms on sourdough toast with mozerrella, spinach and poached egg. I was looking forward to it, but unfortunately it was a disappointment. The mushrooms and spinach were so wet that the sourdough toast was just like mushy bread and the poached egg was overdone.....I also thought that £10.50 for one slice of bread with a mushy topping was completely overpriced....nice coffee though.

Whilst visiting a friend in Cornwall over the Easter weekend, we booked a table for Saturday night, for dinner. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The menu provided a good choice of starters, main courses and desserts, making it a tough decision, however the friendly waiters and waitress helped with recommendations. I started with the Pork Belly Bites with Red Chill and Apple Sauce, which were very nice, and just the right amount. For main I went with the Pan-fried Trout, Garlic Prawns, Buttered Greens and Suatéed Potatoes. It was cooked to perfection with large King Prawns and Tenderstem Broccoli, Carrott and Leeks. Then for dessert, I opted for the Morello Cherry Sundea, Coconut Ice cream and Belgium Waffle. This was delicious and despite the Belgium Waffle, it was a light dessert. The only negative comment I would make is it was a shame there was no external lighting so we could see the view of the sea whilst dining. However despite this I can't wait to visit again soon!

The pub itself was very busy, but the restaurant did not seem overly so. We had booked a table, but we waited over an hour to receive our food, which I think is really unacceptable. On the plus side our waitress was lovely and very apologetic. To be fair, the lunch was very good and I could not fault it and I don't think the restaurant was ready for a busy day after the horrible weather the day before. After drinks and food arrived for others, before we had cutlery or a drink, we decided to leave. Approached the waiter to explain why we were leaving and he didn’t even acknowledge us. Left very disappointed

Vietnamese curry was excellent as was the trout with prawns. Restaurant quite empty for a Saturday evening! Good vibes in the bar as a band were getting ready for the evening.

Went for lunch with the family on Saturday afternoon for an early Mother’s Day treat. Food was lovely but was overshadowed by really poor service. Having pre-booked the table and it not being particularly busy we maybe expected a lot more. The staff came to see us once throughout the whole afternoon to take our food order. We had to go to the bar to order our own drinks and we’re not asked through the meal if we wanted anything else (drinks, sauces etc). Once we’d finished our meal we waited for our plates to be cleared and ask for a desert menu. In the end I had to grab a menu and go to the bar again and order. Even when our deserts were finished with they weren’t cleared, I then had to go and get the bill from the bar as there was no waiting staff to be seen (all afternoon). Location and views are lovely, as is the food. Service just really let us down which is a shame.

Lovely pub, friendly, attentive staff, absolutely beautiful views, and excellent food. We both ordered burgers. Both were delicious. I had the Korean sesame-fried chicken burger. It genuinely exceeded my expectations: a tasty, decent piece of chicken and a delicious, subtle combination of flavours in the slaw and dressing. All packed into a nice soft roll. Can't wait to go back.

Perfect place to sit with a drink and stare out to sea. We had delicious Sunday lunch after a blow on the beach. I had the vegetarian butternut and lentil filo Wellington, husband had the beef. Everything was perfect: crisp roasties, big fluffy yorkshire and good fresh veg. And it's such a relief to find a chef who treats vegetarian food seriously, instead of using processed meat alternatives. Service was great too!

I stayed here recently for work. Unfortunately booking last minute meant that I wasn’t able to get a room with a sea view, but the room was still lovely. A mix between modern and cosy. The room was fresh and tidy and the staff were very welcoming, even after arriving in the dark and rain! I ate in the restaurant for dinner, the Korean chicken burger was amazing! Breakfast in the morning was equally great, again staff were attentive, friendly and welcoming. Just a great little pub, with lovely staff 😀 I’d definitely stay here again!

The three of us visited this wonderful pub yesterday for lunch . Food and service was exceptional . Nothing negative to say everything was so good . The views, the service , the food and the atmosphere were inviting on a cold Feb day . Offering friendly service , freshly cooked food , and value for money ! Worth visiting again ! Thank you .

Can't say enough good things about this place. It's only 30 minutes from our home, but we wanted a short break, and this felt worlds away. Spent a night in a wonderful room with a sea view. Location is amazing; food was great, and every single member of staff was warm, friendly, and up for light hearted banter. We will definitely be spending many more weekends away at Inn on the Shore.

We just had an evening meal, didn't stay. Wouldn't eat there again. Food not great. Now hot, just warm. Fish & chips next to the sea should be easy, but was more batter than fish. Sausage & mash ok, but watery veg that made the mash sloppy. Had to remind the staff to bring my glass of wine.

Stopped serving food at 1440 on a Saturday. We had asked for a table for lunch, been seated by the waiter and handed lunch menus, only to then be told when ordering from the bar that they had stopped serving food, I was told this whilst food was being brought from the kitchen. Pretty ridiculous to be seated be a waiter, given a lunch menu and then refused service when the place advertises on the menu and online that food is served all afternoon.

Don’t be fooled by the photos on the website / on this page. Not sure if these are out of date but they’re deeply misleading as to the quality of the food. This is Wetherspoons fare at twice the price. Our son had a greasy Mac and cheese that had been heated to volcanic temperature in the microwave. I had a lazy burger and ‘skin on chips’ which were fries out a bag. My wife had the Sunday roast which looked like the majority of it had come out the freezer. All for nearly £80. Avoided a one star cause the views are nice and the young servers did their best. Save your money and go elsewhere!

We’d read mixed reviews, but it was convenient to walk to & we could take the dog, so made sense….until the food arrived. My sausage & mash was ok…that’s about all I can say, no better than ok…the plate was watery, presumably from the tasteless veg, so no point in putting the gravy on. My husbands fish and chips…cold & more batter than fish. Dessert…again, ok, no more than that. profiteroles were dry, and cherry sundae…the waffles were also very dry, and the cherries had clearly just been bought out of the freezer. £10.65 for a large glass of Pinot Grigio seemed excessive, and there was no wine list to choose from. I had to remind the staff that I’d ordered wine, before it was bought to the table. I did receive an apology, and the staff were friendly, and seemed to be trying their best. Not sure I’d recommend a visit, and won’t be visiting again. We were trying to put something in to the local economy…but will stick to self catering next time! 😢

Pro’s -Beautiful old building and a lovely lunch! Cons - The barmaid was not very friendly, we first entered to a cold reception and my son left the door slightly ajar she proceeded to walk from the bar mid service to us and closed it I found this quite rude. The boys asked me if they could play pool and she interjected before I could respond and firmly stated no under 16’s on the pool table. Tip - service with a smile would be nice.

Not a very good place on a Saturday night, the landlord is one of them thinks he's hard old men type, turns a blind eye to what the youth get up to round the back because he no doubt doesn't want to lose their custom. It's all very clear what's going on here, one visit from the police at the right time and it's all over. Although I suspect being such a small town they would probably get the wink before any police arrived. Certainly not a place my husband & I will visit again. Even our dog was uncomfortable.
