Nice pub food great views out to sea

Lovely atmosphere and lovely food.

We ate dinner - two trout, one lamb. They were all excellent: beautifully cooked with lovely vegetables. Our guest said it was the best meal he'd had all year. That ws from interesting and diverse menu choices. Beautiful sea views from many tables. Excellent outdoor options - sea side, or out front depending on the breeze. Friendly staff and service.

Really tasty food and the staff were great!

1st time I went there and had fish and chips. Good portion, good service. the next day stopped by for brunch with a group of friends and by 10am they had no avocado. Then was served a shakshuka that looked nothing like what you'd expect, one egg, no bread/flatbread. Asked for a single slice of bread and was told to get up to go pay for it at the bar. Interesting approach to "good service". Won't be in a rush to get back

Wanted to come to the Inn for a couple of years, sadly very disappointed. Service very poor, ignored us, no choice given on ciders even though several stocked, no knowledge of menu, no warning of cooking time. Food took ages and then was lukewarm, saute potatoes burnt, chips dry and over cooked, trout undercooked, lamb chewy. Restaurant was not even that busy. No water brought to table as requested. Staff didn't even check if food was ok even after complaint about the wait. Manager was defensive but did reduce the bill by over half. Left hungry and didn't bother with deserts.

Went for lunch today at the Inn on The Shore. Superb setting and view. Staff were lovely....quite a long wait for food and they forgot one of only 3 drinks ordered and i had to go and ask for it.Cod and chips and ham egg and chips were quite nice although chips were quite dry. I had wild mushrooms on sourdough toast with mozerrella, spinach and poached egg. I was looking forward to it, but unfortunately it was a disappointment. The mushrooms and spinach were so wet that the sourdough toast was just like mushy bread and the poached egg was overdone.....I also thought that £10.50 for one slice of bread with a mushy topping was completely overpriced....nice coffee though.

Great friendly pub would recommend the only issue we had after we had meal and went back to our appointment was boyfriend ended up having food poisoning so spoilt our last day here as he was unwell and exhausted but overall great pub and friendly staff

Booked a meal for 8 at 2pm. Week before booking, they told me they were overbooked and could we change our time. Yes. Then we had to pre order our meal. Done. When we turned up, ordered starters sold out. Substitutes. Ok. Starter a thin piece of bread, one mushroom chopped with a scrap of cheese. Then main course over 1 hour later. Roast pork really over peppery. Roast potatoes obviously cooked in the fryer. Then coffees and they could not even get that right. Forgot coffees and items not ordered delivered. Did not get a tip and would not go there for a big family meal or a Sunday roast again

The view from our room was fab , overlooking the ocean , there wasn't much else good about it though. With a room rate of £210 for 2 people and a small dog, we were expecting luxury but we got old, damaged, and dated fixtures and fittings . The food in the restaurant was ok, but overpriced for what was essentially warmed up pre prepared food. The whole building needs updating including the outside which is overgrown and untidy.

Party of 3 people, we all had our meals separately, about 20 minutes apart. My meal was luke warm but l ate it anyway as l couldn't be bothered to complain. We asked where are the other meals and they said the order on the screen didn't go to the kitchen and they would give it priority My brothers meal came 20 minutes after, l had finished eating mine, another 15 minutes went by and then my wife's meal arrived. It was cold so it went back to the kitchen to be reheate. That took another 15 minutes to get it back. My wife was so annoyed she lost the will to eat it and ate a little. The location is very nice but the service is very poor and will not be going for a meal their again.Not to be recommended .rate only 0/10.

Such wasted potential, with incredible sea views. Would love for this pub to become independent. They are owned by a large chain called Punch Taverns, which regularly changes management using exploitative contracts. They also hired both locals and Ukrainian refugees and then refused to pay the staff for an entire month’s wages when they changed management, which is illegal.

Whilst visiting a friend in Cornwall over the Easter weekend, we booked a table for Saturday night, for dinner. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The menu provided a good choice of starters, main courses and desserts, making it a tough decision, however the friendly waiters and waitress helped with recommendations. I started with the Pork Belly Bites with Red Chill and Apple Sauce, which were very nice, and just the right amount. For main I went with the Pan-fried Trout, Garlic Prawns, Buttered Greens and Suatéed Potatoes. It was cooked to perfection with large King Prawns and Tenderstem Broccoli, Carrott and Leeks. Then for dessert, I opted for the Morello Cherry Sundea, Coconut Ice cream and Belgium Waffle. This was delicious and despite the Belgium Waffle, it was a light dessert. The only negative comment I would make is it was a shame there was no external lighting so we could see the view of the sea whilst dining. However despite this I can't wait to visit again soon!

A family get together. A regular afternoon coffee stop with my son after walking along the beach, but this was a family annual get together evening meal. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The food was delicious, personally I had the vegetarian suet pudding ( absolute taste sensation) with veg and delicious gravy. The service was really good although a little slow. Would definitely eat here again.

After an absolutely horrible Saturday we decided to go to Downderry for a walk and a Sunday lunch as the forecast was good Everywhere was really busy and obviously because of the good weather other people decided the same as us. The pub itself was very busy, but the restaurant did not seem overly so. We had booked a table, but we waited over an hour to receive our food, which I think is really unacceptable. On the plus side our waitress was lovely and very apologetic. To be fair, the lunch was very good and I could not fault it and I don't think the restaurant was ready for a busy day after the horrible weather the day before. All in all the food was great, but be prepared to wait, unless the weather changes!!

My husband booked a few weeks ago for mother's day/my birthday a table for 4 adults a child & a baby we ordered drinks which took a while but no problem as not many staff on we had pre ordered our food which when arrived was very nice! The restaurant wasn't to busy the sun was out so the doors were open it was great. It seemed by the wait for drinks that they were under staffed. Lovely place in an idea spot right next to the beach via a pathway x

I had booked this pub and restaurant for a two night stay with my wife to celebrate her 70th birthday there was a mix up with my booking I had booked a king suite with sea view.I spoke to the assistant manager and explained about the mix up with booking.com .I spoke to them and they would speak to the landlord.When I spoke to the landlord he was very understanding we couldn’t change rooms but he did offer us a free meal and drinks in the restaurant that evening.When we arrived down stairs the evening manager on duty was excellent and greeted us with a smile and she new our drinks,the the service in the restaurant was excellent food was first class all the staff on duty on Friday evening was excellent service with a smile and engaging a credit to the landlord and staff my wife and I had lovely weekend thank you hope to see you soon

Settled at table looking forward to our meal. Despite only 4 tables being occupied, after 35 minutes still had not been served our drinks and table not set for our meal. After drinks and food arrived for others, before we had cutlery or a drink, we decided to leave. Approached the waiter to explain why we were leaving and he didn’t even acknowledge us. Left very disappointed

Vietnamese curry was excellent as was the trout with prawns. Restaurant quite empty for a Saturday evening! Good vibes in the bar as a band were getting ready for the evening.

Went for lunch with the family on Saturday afternoon for an early Mother’s Day treat. Food was lovely but was overshadowed by really poor service. Having pre-booked the table and it not being particularly busy we maybe expected a lot more. The staff came to see us once throughout the whole afternoon to take our food order. We had to go to the bar to order our own drinks and we’re not asked through the meal if we wanted anything else (drinks, sauces etc). Once we’d finished our meal we waited for our plates to be cleared and ask for a desert menu. In the end I had to grab a menu and go to the bar again and order. Even when our deserts were finished with they weren’t cleared, I then had to go and get the bill from the bar as there was no waiting staff to be seen (all afternoon). Location and views are lovely, as is the food. Service just really let us down which is a shame.

Lovely pub, friendly, attentive staff, absolutely beautiful views, and excellent food. We both ordered burgers. Both were delicious. I had the Korean sesame-fried chicken burger. It genuinely exceeded my expectations: a tasty, decent piece of chicken and a delicious, subtle combination of flavours in the slaw and dressing. All packed into a nice soft roll. Can't wait to go back.

This is truly a stunning location, overlooking the beach (accesed down a short path) The inn on the shore is a Beautiful building, well maintained with fantastic decor and views. 8 Letting rooms some with sea views, very clean throughout with huge outdoor and indoor seating areas and large free carpark. Very popular with the local residents... Serving a variety of coffee choices from early morning. Food available for breakfast from 8.30 then lunch from 12 A very warm and welcoming place to enjoy the hospitality and scenery Dogs very welcome (treats are on the Bar) 🐶 😎

Perfect place to sit with a drink and stare out to sea. We had delicious Sunday lunch after a blow on the beach. I had the vegetarian butternut and lentil filo Wellington, husband had the beef. Everything was perfect: crisp roasties, big fluffy yorkshire and good fresh veg. And it's such a relief to find a chef who treats vegetarian food seriously, instead of using processed meat alternatives. Service was great too!

Can’t comment on rooms as did not stay, but the roast pork on Sunday was beautiful, great choice of beer and lovely staff.

I stayed here recently for work. Unfortunately booking last minute meant that I wasn’t able to get a room with a sea view, but the room was still lovely. A mix between modern and cosy. The room was fresh and tidy and the staff were very welcoming, even after arriving in the dark and rain! I ate in the restaurant for dinner, the Korean chicken burger was amazing! Breakfast in the morning was equally great, again staff were attentive, friendly and welcoming. Just a great little pub, with lovely staff 😀 I’d definitely stay here again!

Can't say enough good things about this place. It's only 30 minutes from our home,but we wanted a short break,and this felt worlds away. Spent a night in a wonderful room with a sea view. Location is amazing; food was great,and every single member of staff was warm, friendly,and up for light hearted banter. We will definitely be spending many more weekends away at Inn on the Shore.

Fabulous views from lovely outdoor space overlooking the sea. Beer well kept also decent wine Sitting outside with a great pint and my wife and my sisters family when the sun shines is all you could ask . It affected us enough that we’re going back for my 80 th birthday in Feb.2023

We just had an evening meal, didn't stay. Wouldn't eat there again. Food not great. Now hot, just warm. Fish & chips next to the sea should be easy, but was more batter than fish. Sausage & mash ok, but watery veg that made the mash sloppy. Had to remind the staff to bring my glass of wine.

originally had poor communication at no fault of new owners. Neeka and Dan were absolutely amazing hosts. Amazing breakfast and will definitely be returning. very hospitable and beautiful location

Stopped serving food at 1440 on a Saturday. We had asked for a table for lunch, been seated by the waiter and handed lunch menus, only to then be told when ordering from the bar that they had stopped serving food, I was told this whilst food was being brought from the kitchen. Pretty ridiculous to be seated be a waiter, given a lunch menu and then refused service when the place advertises on the menu and online that food is served all afternoon.

Don’t be fooled by the photos on the website / on this page. Not sure if these are out of date but they’re deeply misleading as to the quality of the food. This is Wetherspoons fare at twice the price. Our son had a greasy Mac and cheese that had been heated to volcanic temperature in the microwave. I had a lazy burger and ‘skin on chips’ which were fries out a bag. My wife had the Sunday roast which looked like the majority of it had come out the freezer. All for nearly £80. Avoided a one star cause the views are nice and the young servers did their best. Save your money and go elsewhere!

We’d read mixed reviews, but it was convenient to walk to & we could take the dog, so made sense….until the food arrived. My sausage & mash was ok…that’s about all I can say, no better than ok…the plate was watery, presumably from the tasteless veg, so no point in putting the gravy on. My husbands fish and chips…cold & more batter than fish. Dessert…again, ok, no more than that. profiteroles were dry, and cherry sundae…the waffles were also very dry, and the cherries had clearly just been bought out of the freezer. £10.65 for a large glass of Pinot Grigio seemed excessive, and there was no wine list to choose from. I had to remind the staff that I’d ordered wine, before it was bought to the table. I did receive an apology, and the staff were friendly, and seemed to be trying their best. Not sure I’d recommend a visit, and won’t be visiting again. We were trying to put something in to the local economy…but will stick to self catering next time! 😢

Great food, definitely worth a visit

First pub we have ever taken our puppy to and she loved it been back every night of the holiday. The staff are lovely the food was yummy. It's not cheap. But the staff and the location right on the beach with beautiful views. Make it a must visit for anyone down this way. Fern cannot wait to come back.

Good service but let down by the meal which wasn't very hot

Tonight we had a meal here, I ordered the vegan wellington, which came with sautéed potatoes (on the menu as the vegan option) I even double checked with the waiting staff. The meal came with butter drizzled all over and buttery mash potato. I questioned this to be sure and I’m glad I did as this was dairy. The chef had gone rogue and off menu. Although the waiting staff who looked after our table compensated me with a free drink, it worries me about our previous meals here. I do have to the say the person who dealt with this was wonderful! Just be sure to check and double check if you have any dietary requirements.

Very disappointed with our Sunday roast yesterday. We called to book a few days ago and specifically asked if the vegan roast option would be available as two of us are vegan. We were told it would. When it came to ordering our food though we were informed that it wasn’t available! Very frustrating to be told something is unavailable when you’ve rung ahead to make sure it will be. We were offered one of the other vegan options from the regular menu, a mushroom pie, and we asked if this could be served as a roast instead to make up for not having the roast option. We were told no, it couldn’t because of the way stock is ordered by the kitchen which we accepted. However when our food arrived, we had actually been given the pie with roast potatoes and veg! No one had come to our table to explain that this could have been an option or even if that’s what we still wanted. In hindsight I would have much preferred the mash potato as the roasties were bland and not crispy, the veggies unseasoned and swimming in a pool of water, plus the gravy was gloopy and luke warm. The pie was the only saving grace. On top of this we were served Yorkshire puddings which we had to explain aren’t vegan, even though we had specifically made them aware multiple times that we were vegan. Service was lacklustre. Not once did someone check to see if we were enjoying our food or if we needed more drinks. One of our party asked for hot sauce which never arrived. All in all our experience was pretty dire. It’s a shame as the pub itself is in a great location with amazing views across the ocean. There’s a lot of work that needs to be done here, in terms of communication across the team and with customers, including knowledge about dietary requirements. This could have been disastrous if one of us had a severe allergy.

Long wait for drinks; long wait for food. Cokes were half Coke half ice. Had “pan fried trout with garlic prawns & buttered greens”. Trout was dry as a bone; 3 king prawns with no trace of garlic; no sauce of any description. Buttered greens didn’t show up - was told that the veg that came with the others’ roasts were to share! Waiter checked & greens were delivered, but definitely not buttered & swimming in water. Certainly won’t be going back.

Despite checking the day before that they would have vegan roasts unavailable, when we came to order we were told that they didn’t have the vegan roast. We asked for the vegan suet pudding with the roast sides but asked specifically to make this vegan. When it arrived it had a Yorkshire pudding on the plate which wasn’t vegan.
