Terrible service. Arrived to find place upside down with builders in main bar, and contractors blocking entrance to the accommodation rooms. Dust everywhere while still serving lunch and drinks despite bar being covered in dust too. Breakfast!!! Took an hour to be served on cold plates with stale hard bread. After asking where food was, we’re told by Manager it was being played, 2 mins later it arrived. Awful place. No idea how to manage or run a customer led facility.

Just went to dinner, we didn’t stay. Beautiful location. Enjoyed our meal looking out to sea and the beautiful sunset. Fries were good. The trout & prawns were tasty. The Korean chicken burger was good, fresh, flavourful. Service was good too. Excellent offering of fruity rose. Sadly the rhubarb frangipane tart was disappointing. We did give feedback which was gladly received. Would go again.

Ok 5/5/2025 we went back as the location is prefect. the service by a young new girl was excellent, so friendly and welcoming thank you. You made the evening for us. The food was so much improved, my partners meal was excellent. Mine was very good apart from the chips, that seemed to be not that great oven chips, I’d change them, not all of them cooked that well (a shame) a let down as it’s a main ingredient of fish & chips. Maybe it was a one off. We really enjoyed the evening. Thanks We skipped mentioning allergy as our experience pretty much everywhere in Cornwall has been the same if it’s not mentioned on the menu they aren’t going to be proactive in dealing with your request, so we try to pick what we think we will be ok with. Allergy sufferers in the UK are increasingly common, with over 20% of the population affected by at least one allergic disorder So most think on this menu could easily be gluten free, egg free, lactose free, nut free. If you like information of how, I’d be happy to provide it. But I have to say it’s a lot better than previously. Was one star in 2023 Great location. Beautiful views. They seem to not have food on a lot in the day. What ever it’s takings are I could double. Update 2023. So it’s still not improving, if you can any get staff to help you, good luck, if they know anything I’ll be amazed, you will end up talking to a limited chef, that basically can’t offer alternative’s for allergy surfers other than don’t eat anything on the menu with wheat, or lots of other things that might have wheat, including the chips as it’s the same fryers. I have allergy to eggs my partner is celiac so no wheat, so basically eating would be a risk as I’d say they have no clue what’s contaminated, my son’s a head chef and I cook, it’s easy, annoying at times but easy to offer alternatives that are good, not just saying I can do the chicken without the breadcrumbs etc. Wake up it’s 2023 you need to start catering for the customer, lactose free, wheat free, egg free, nut free, it’s basic. Like vegan or vegetarian etc. If you can’t do it You shouldn’t be running a kitchen.

Have always loved the location of The Inn on the Shore. It is somewhere I haven't visited for a couple of years as I have moved further away, so it is no longer local to me- I was quite sad about that until I revisited with a friend, we treated ourselves to a large white wine each and one portion of cheesy chips- the bill £28!!! I was horrified, £11 each for a glass of wine- apparently a whole bottle would have been £24 - feel quite cheated! Then the cheesy(?) Chips, dry, untasty cheese of a very small portion- not sad anymore, won't be returning- looking back on previous reviews, when portion size has been mentioned, it is stated that you will address this- can I ask when? Certainly hasn't happened yet, feels like a placatory comment? I so rarely complain, but this really shocked me.

4 of us visited for dinner last night. We prebooked, arrived on time. Waited over an hour for drinks, and when they came one was missing. It took us a further 15 minutes to get the fourth, and even then we had to go to the bar. Menu choices looked good (if expensive) but we hoped for quality. Food was another long wait (every table around us had the same issue, it was the talk of the area we were in). When our food arrived, 3 plates came, but one was missing. After a further delay we were told it had been missed off the ticket. The fourth plate eventually arrived but was sadly the poorest attempt at fish and chips. The piece of fish was tiny, surrounded by a brick of cremated batter (stick a fork in and send shrapnel flying!) the duck salad, at £17 was ridiculously overpriced - a mound of watercress, a spoonful of shredded duck and a couple pieces of watermelon. Service was chaotic, two lovely young women who told us they were new in post but they clearly had no direction or support. They were totally out of their depth even though many tables were empty. Every single table had a major issue with drinks or food. Overall, very overpriced for very poor quality food. We did make all these points to the person who processed our bill, who apologised and acknowledged they’d had a very bad night (apparently a new team and they’d forgotten it was Easter weekend). They did remove the fish and chips, but frankly, almost £100 for the food and drinks we had was a waste of money. We are fairly local (SE Cornwall) and will return for drinks as we often do, but wouldn’t waste our money again on food.

I met with my daughter and Grandson and thought it a perfect venue on a sunny day. We were greeted by a very sullen chap after standing at the bar for some time, he definitely gave the impression that he didn't want to be there! We ordered drinks and then a little while later went back to order two portions of chips to nibble. After waiting over half an hour, it wasn't particularly busy, we asked how much longer it would take and were told that the kitchen hadn't received the ticket but they would now cook them.! Absolutely no apology and my Grandson was almost in tears. On arrival 10 minutes later, the portion turned out to be an olive bowl with about 13 chips in! Each portion cost £5, so £10 for 26 chips that took virtually an hour to come, that is an awfully high mark up! Roughly 37p per chip!!! As locals it's such a shame to feel that we have to go elsewhere, locals are important in the winter months. It's off to the pub at Seaton for us from now on, they are friendly and offer good service and food portions

Paid for a superior double room which was tiny, so small in fact that they forgot it was there! We had to wait over an hour for our dinner on the first night, the staff mostly ignored us. Despite being asked to pre-order our meals we waited for a long time to be served, had to ask for drinks, staff bypassed us, never offered to take an order and after over an hour we had to ask where our dinner was? We watched others that arrived after us eating their food. Weren't offered a free drink or some bread as an apology, although we were asked if we'd had our bread by a waitress as she whizzed by, serving other people? We hadn't ordered any, nor did we get any. Our room never got serviced, we told them twice on the first 2 days they forgot us, asked for milk and toilet roll but it didn't get done again, no drinking water or clean towels, so on the 3rd day we left and came home a day early. They have replied to say there was a sign to hang on the door. But we didn't have a sign, we weren't told about a sign and, when I complained, they never asked about the sign.

I had a day at seaton planned with a friend I hadn’t seen for ages. My suggestion to go to Inn on the Shore for lunch. Last time (last management) it was lovely. My error was that I didn’t book and so sadly we couldn’t have lunch. My fault and no problem. So whilst having a lovely day we still ordered 2 pints and 3x cheesy chips (as we were hungry and from a distance they looked small) £30.60. I looked at the receipt to find the cheesy chips was £6.50 each! What turned up was three shallow small olive dishes. Basically all three was the equivalent of one normal portion of cheesy chips which therefore cost £19.50! £19.50 for a reasonable portion of cheesy chips. This is pure greed from the current owner/tenant whoever they are. I use to run a pub and know how hard it is but this is approx a 2000% mark up. Whether in 3 small portions or 1 reasonable portion. It ruined our buzz for the day as it wasn’t just bad human behaviour, we were ripped off and I was really embarrassed I had suggested to go there. I wrote to them directly to complain rather than public, as I couldn’t believe this was their ethos/modus operandi and I’ve heard nothing back. I certainly won’t go back there. I still feel angered by their greed and poor judgement of their customers intelligence. I am fairly local (SE Cornwall). I’ll be looking out for when it changes hands once again, whilst they don’t give a monkeys.

My daughter booked two sea view rooms for four people and her dog. When we arrived unfortunately we were told there was not going to be food that evening as staff sickness. This was OK as there were other local places to eat (which they suggested). The room was fantastic looking directly over the sea. We had a very comfortable night's sleep as rooms were warm, clean, and quiet (except for the lovely sound of crashing waves on the beach below) When we arrived staff were friendly and showed us to our room. Breakfast was excellent. There's a path right by the side of the Inn leading directly onto the beach below. We'll worth a visit, and the next time we visit we'll eat there as the menu looked very nice. Many thanks.

We stayed here for 3 nights and had a great time. The decor is shades of blue and grey, shabby chic style. The room was small, very small, but clever design ensured we had everything you'd expect and the view of the beach and the crashing waves was stunning. All the servers were lovely and very attentive to my partner's wheat and dairy free diet. The carefully curated menu covered most tastes and there are clearly people in the kitchen who really care about food. For me it was a little too fancy but I have this problem in most restaurants. It really was a 5* experience but I will just add one remark about the size of the room, called Tregantle. It is so small that anyone with even a minor mobility issue, suh as being overweight, would have trouble accessing the bed on the window side. If this is you, check at time of booking.

Booked a 'superior' room on Booking.com and got a very mediocre cramped room with no space to move on the one side of a standard double bed. Despite a lovely gesture of toiletries in a bag on the bed- there was no sign of listed 'wine or champagne'. The small road leading to the Inn was dreadful and nothing else was open in the village, bar a restaurant that may have opened in the evening. Management was aware of the misleading advertising and unsympathetic saying if she had known the day before she would have arranged another room and said it was an ongoing issue with Booking.com- that they had not resolved. The breakfast was good, as was the view... bar for a dog in the dining room that the owner fed by dropping food on the floor for it to eat. Disappointing... but there are 2 other pubs nearby in Seaton Beach. Some cleaning in the window frames wouldn't go amiss and fix the curtain-this costs nothing? I do feel sorry for the owners about the damp that is spoiling reasonably good finishings in the plaster peeling...

We only came here after spending time on Seaton beach and then being told by the nearby pub that we’d wait nearly an hour for our food. We saw the IOTS from the beginning of Downderry beach and driving through the village we just spotted the sign and we’re then lucky to get a parking space. We walked down the side and out onto the sea facing wooden terrace which was sweltering but dogs were welcome inside and food was being served throughout the day. Amazing how big this place is especially on the western inside seafacing dining room. But the bar area which had an attractive feel was warming up. We went through to a near empty back space and readied to order only to be overwhelmed by the multistench from the gents loos. But we were rescued by one of the smart relaxed friendly young staff who cared us back into the main bar area, where remarkably a light refreshing breeze through the doors was doing its magic. We bought four options from the lunch menu and a pint or two of some palatable ale we’d never heard of but which was deftly and sincerely marketed by the bar staff because the Tribute barrel needed changing. Our dog settled, we relaxed and surprisingly quickly our four small plates arrived. All very tasty. Dog was peaceful, only barking when a laid back old lady told him how smart he looked. The pub was in a an affable mood. Chunks of the dining area were empty but this is the first week of the low season so things were still healthy. The mood and the food are good. We were treated well. We shall come back. Apparently the present management are comparatively new. If they carry on as they are, perhaps with some minor tweaking it will do very well.

We have been visiting this pub during our frequent holidays to the area for around 4/5 years. Whilst we have always enjoyed a drink here especially outside with the fantastic sea view, we have on occasion been disappointed by the food so more often than not have avoided eating here. However, since the new management team have been in place we have noticed a dramatic difference for the better and we couldn’t be more pleased! During our 16 day trip we have eaten here many times including a fantastic Sunday roast, took advantage of the Wednesday night supper club and many meals and snacks in between. The food is fantastic now and great value for money. The staff are really friendly and attentive and genuinely appear to be pleased that you are visiting. The management are visible and steering the ship in the right direction. It has a much better feel about the place for tourists and locals alike. We decided to extend our holiday and have a final two days staying at the pub. The room was very comfortable, clean and welcoming. The bed was really comfortable and the breakfast included was delicious. Finally this lovely pub is getting the love and attention it deserves. We can’t wait to return.

Absolutely loved this quirky Inn. Lovely decor throughout for a beach feel. We had an amazing Beach and Sea view. The old Inn is built on a cliff with plenty of outside seating to enjoy the sun and views. The food was amazing, having had an evening meal and breakfast. The staff were very helpful and pleasant. The Inn on the Shore is also dog friendly, and they are allowed in the restaurant, which, if like us, you have a dog that sings when you leave him, was great. Would definitely love to return, but stay longer.

We ate dinner - two trout, one lamb. They were all excellent: beautifully cooked with lovely vegetables. Our guest said it was the best meal he'd had all year. That ws from interesting and diverse menu choices. Beautiful sea views from many tables. Excellent outdoor options - sea side, or out front depending on the breeze. Friendly staff and service.

1st time I went there and had fish and chips. Good portion, good service. the next day stopped by for brunch with a group of friends and by 10am they had no avocado. Then was served a shakshuka that looked nothing like what you'd expect, one egg, no bread/flatbread. Asked for a single slice of bread and was told to get up to go pay for it at the bar. Interesting approach to "good service". Won't be in a rush to get back

Wanted to come to the Inn for a couple of years, sadly very disappointed. Service very poor, ignored us, no choice given on ciders even though several stocked, no knowledge of menu, no warning of cooking time. Food took ages and then was lukewarm, saute potatoes burnt, chips dry and over cooked, trout undercooked, lamb chewy. Restaurant was not even that busy. No water brought to table as requested. Staff didn't even check if food was ok even after complaint about the wait. Manager was defensive but did reduce the bill by over half. Left hungry and didn't bother with deserts.

Went for lunch today at the Inn on The Shore. Superb setting and view. Staff were lovely....quite a long wait for food and they forgot one of only 3 drinks ordered and i had to go and ask for it.Cod and chips and ham egg and chips were quite nice although chips were quite dry. I had wild mushrooms on sourdough toast with mozerrella, spinach and poached egg. I was looking forward to it, but unfortunately it was a disappointment. The mushrooms and spinach were so wet that the sourdough toast was just like mushy bread and the poached egg was overdone.....I also thought that £10.50 for one slice of bread with a mushy topping was completely overpriced....nice coffee though.

Booked a meal for 8 at 2pm. Week before booking, they told me they were overbooked and could we change our time. Yes. Then we had to pre order our meal. Done. When we turned up, ordered starters sold out. Substitutes. Ok. Starter a thin piece of bread, one mushroom chopped with a scrap of cheese. Then main course over 1 hour later. Roast pork really over peppery. Roast potatoes obviously cooked in the fryer. Then coffees and they could not even get that right. Forgot coffees and items not ordered delivered. Did not get a tip and would not go there for a big family meal or a Sunday roast again

The view from our room was fab , overlooking the ocean , there wasn't much else good about it though. With a room rate of £210 for 2 people and a small dog, we were expecting luxury but we got old, damaged, and dated fixtures and fittings . The food in the restaurant was ok, but overpriced for what was essentially warmed up pre prepared food. The whole building needs updating including the outside which is overgrown and untidy.

Party of 3 people, we all had our meals separately, about 20 minutes apart. My meal was luke warm but l ate it anyway as l couldn't be bothered to complain. We asked where are the other meals and they said the order on the screen didn't go to the kitchen and they would give it priority My brothers meal came 20 minutes after, l had finished eating mine, another 15 minutes went by and then my wife's meal arrived. It was cold so it went back to the kitchen to be reheate. That took another 15 minutes to get it back. My wife was so annoyed she lost the will to eat it and ate a little. The location is very nice but the service is very poor and will not be going for a meal their again. Not to be recommended .rate only 0/10.

Whilst visiting a friend in Cornwall over the Easter weekend, we booked a table for Saturday night, for dinner. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The menu provided a good choice of starters, main courses and desserts, making it a tough decision, however the friendly waiters and waitress helped with recommendations. I started with the Pork Belly Bites with Red Chill and Apple Sauce, which were very nice, and just the right amount. For main I went with the Pan-fried Trout, Garlic Prawns, Buttered Greens and Suatéed Potatoes. It was cooked to perfection with large King Prawns and Tenderstem Broccoli, Carrott and Leeks. Then for dessert, I opted for the Morello Cherry Sundea, Coconut Ice cream and Belgium Waffle. This was delicious and despite the Belgium Waffle, it was a light dessert. The only negative comment I would make is it was a shame there was no external lighting so we could see the view of the sea whilst dining. However despite this I can't wait to visit again soon!

Came for a drink with a friend and was great, however wasn’t made aware of the parking rules so have been charged £60 for 30 minutes of parking. Called to ask for assistance to be greeted with a fairly dismissive member of staff claiming nothing can be done.

They had a busy day so some items were unavailable and we had to make changes. Bit of a shame as the things we did eat were really nice and we would all have liked the same dish. Really nice though would definitely eat there again.
