We were greeted at the door with a great big smile really nice welcome. We hadn't booked but they quickly accommodated us. We opted for the 2 course Sunday roast and had the Prawns, Calamari and Roast Beef. All the food was tasty, a good portion size and came well presented. Service was efficient and well paced we didn't feel rushed at all. Drinks were good I had the Cornish best!

Myself and friends were visiting and wanted a nice Sunday roast. We had explored images of food on the Instagram page and were excited for what looked like would be a delicious roast dinner. We were initially disappointed when we were asked to wait in our cars at opening time because the floors were wet still. Staff were polite enough but disinterested. A staff member got her roast dinner and sat at the table next to us consuming this whilst sitting on her phone and telling other staff members what to do. Our food came, calamari was cold and likely frozen originally. The soup was barely warm and advertised with fresh bread. Unfortunately this was a roll that had come out of a supermarket multipack. We then got a roast each which was in all honestly disappointing from start to finish. The meat was fatty, bland and thin, the cauliflower cheese curdled in the gravy. Potatoes were frozen originally and a poor example of a roast potato. Veg were flavourless having been clearly boiled. Gravy thin and unseasoned. Only good thing was the Yorkshire pudding. Staff informed at the end of the meal that we felt this was false advertising however, did not ask regarding specifics or inform us that they would feed back to management or the kitchen. All in all, the dinner was edible and not unreasonable price however, would not pay this again for the food brought to us.

Very Slow service .We had to wait an unduly long time for our food, the pub was very quiet!. But we did notice the Landlord had two plates of food that he took upstairs "marked private " So can only assume it was for himself and another. well his customers had to wait . Also checked out the beer garden reminded me of step toes yard .And then they put a 9.9% service charge on the bill without asking .

I was very disappointed with the meal provided by your establishment. The vegetables were undercooked potatoes quite hard, meat was ok . We were waiting for a good half hour for our food, listening to your most inappropriate music it would seem the pub is being run to suit your interests. We came to this pub as last year we came and had a lovely meal no waiting good service overall very satisfied. Going back to the meal the puddings were not very good as the Brownie was hard and actually seemed frozen. I do believe you need to supervise more on what is actually coming from the kitchen. The fact that you were busy doesn't mean you are actually serving good food. I hope you actually take notice of reviews as people take time to actually tell you how they feel. Thank-you.

Lovely British pub. We visited twice whilst on holiday. I had a ploughman’s the first time and. Sunday roast. The staff were polite, friendly and welcoming. Lovely venue. Good value food and variety on the menu. Only feedback was that the gravy should be in a separate jug as my roast was swamped in it and took away the flavour of the lovely fresh ingredients. Everyone’s likes different amounts of gravy. The ploughman’s was perfect, good portion size and good value. I would into recorded and eat there again.

On arrival we were rudely asked if we had a table booked, Then showed to our table, Whilst attempting to go to the bar to see what drinks were available we’re told to sit down as its table service only, I didn’t realise we were still in lockdown! After drinks we ordered a roast which was very mediocre and basic, boiled practically uncooked hard veg and pretty drab, cauliflower cheese was about the size of a 2p coin and tasted nothing like cauliflower cheese, beef was ok in all fairness, otherwise this was the worse roast dinner ive ever eaten, chocolate brownie for dessert, as expected in the middle but the outside frozen! Rude front of house lady, awful music, strange atmosphere, awful food, never ever again.

Went here as had been previous year with my sons and had a lovely meal with great service . Standards have clearly dropped . Table was very dirty ( it wasn’t busy in there ) . Went at 7.30 and was immediately told that 3 out of 4 specials they no longer had . Also poor choice on wine and wine I had was served warm . Decided against eating there in the end as choices were poor and just got a distinct vibe of not being great and quite dirty . Such a shame as it was good previously .

Booked for Sunday lunch, but could only get the 4pm sitting. I'm sure that the 12 noon and 2pm sittings would have been better, but 4pm wasn't the best. The starters were fine, but the roast dinners (and they are the only choices on Sunday) were poor. Meat and roast potatoes were ok, veg were either rock hard or mush. The Yorkshire puddings and bizarrely the stuffing were so hard a steak knife would have struggled to cut them. Gave up in the end. Staff were pleasant, but considering the extremely limited menu, the service was slow. I expect that the Yorkies etc had been waiting around all afternoon, so by the time they were reheated for us they were far too hard. We did mention this to the staff, but no offer to take them off the bill. Very expensive for what we could eat.

Really expensive for a chicken madras which was clearly either a ready meal or jar of sauce. Greasy poppadoms. Onion rings were sitting in a bowl of grease. Small portion of calamari. With more salad than calamari! Disappointing I’m afraid to say. Almost £80 for a Monday afternoon pub meal for myself and my 2 children is not what I was expecting to fork out. 1 drink each. No desserts ordered. Mainly sides ordered as mains were so expensive and kids options were extremely limited. Pub was empty but a few people entered as we were leaving. Nice that dogs are welcome. Nice big garden area. Staff were friendly. Edit..response: staff not are not responsible for prices. Why would I ask for replacement jarred curry? Or less grease on food? Your responses are all much the same level of defensiveness. Take it on the chin like we did with our sad meal and do better.

I ordered the Calamari (£7.50) as a starter to share with my 15 year old daughter. However, I was disappointed to see when it arrived that there was very little calamari (5 rings) next to a huge salad. The dish isn’t described as a “Calamari Salad”, just “calamari”. I was very polite and respectful to all 3 waitresses who served us and when asked if the food was alright, responded with “no not really but will explain at the end of our meal” as I didn’t want to kick up a big fuss to the waitresses who are not at fault and ruin the quiet ambience. At the end of the meal the waitress asked what the problem was. After I told her she was grateful for the feedback. It would, however, have been nice to have a manager, landlord or even chef to have spoken to. When it came to settle my bill I was slightly surprise to see it still on but paid up nonetheless as I wasn’t out to cause any trouble for the poor waitresses. After all, I was on holiday!! I hope this place listens to feedback and learns from it ..as tough as it might be to take. Playing the victim is the wrong approach. I will go back again as the rest of the meal was ok and the service was excellent.

If you want to be followed out of the pub by the owner arguing with you, or at your table, and infront of other customers than this pub is for you! This is all of what we witnessed as we were rated at our table (45mins after arrival in which we were told was our fault). The best thing the staff could have done for us is to tell us how awful the food and owner are. We had the Sunday dinner in which we waited 90 minutes for (after the wait for the table). My food arrived separate to everyone else’s and it was stone cold. I sent the food back. They replated the food and told me the plate had been warmed. The potatoes… absolutely vile! They were not fresh, reheated and couldn’t be swallowed without a drink. I encouraged the owner to never give these to a child as they would easily choke. As for the veg, if you don’t have good teeth, don’t bother. Because they are hard and undercooked. The Yorkshire pudding was days old and did not cook easy with a nice. When encouraging the owner that the food was not good, she says “how strange. The meat on the menu was not the meat available. Therefore she says you cannot have the added sides (yorkshire pudding and stuffing) to the original menu as it’s different meat (which we said was not our fault) This is a £16.50 dinner!!! We all left dissatisfied. The staff walked out whilst on shift due to the stress she is under. The owner is in denial. She believes it is amazing. Therefore all customers were wrong. We witnessed several try the food and then refuse to stay. It’s a Good job they serve alcohol so the food may taste better. We would not visit again. No atmosphere, poor service. They cannot keep up with the demand. Such a shame.

We went for sunday lunch and had a table booked at 4pm. In fairness we did turn up early and was told to get a drink and wait for our table but to then watch a walk in of 4 come in and be offered a table straight away was frustrating. The waitresses were just stood behind the bar chatting whilst people were looking over for assistance. We were given a table after 30 mins of waiting where we found the table next to us had been waiting a long time and then refused their food. We then were moved to another table where we were given our food within 10 minutes which we were happy about but the table next to us complained about how poor it was and refused to pay. Overall the food was okay, some things weren’t cooked like potatoes and cabbage. We were then over charged £11 on the bill. Luckily we checked as otherwise they had charged us all for 3 courses when some of us only had 1. The lady told us she would sort but we had to pay the service charge which i wasn’t happy about. It wasn’t a great experience and probably wouldn’t go again.

The food is over priced for what you get. Crab cake starter's we're tiny pats on a plate and not very tasty. Not everyone wants to complain at the time, especially when you're being treated to lunch.Doubt ewill eat there again.Service charges by law are optional.Everyone gets their off day's. Perhaps, we we're just unlucky

I think generally this is a nice place but we just had a bad experience. When we arrived we waited 15 minutes to order food. Food arrived and my Mac and cheese was nice, if a bit bland. But my partners food was a burger which came raw, when we sent it back and asked for just the patty to be put in the oven for a couple minutes and the wrong burger came back and our “millionaire fries”, were missing the truffle oil. We did let our server know who apologised but when the bartender came over with the bill we did ask for the service tip to be removed because we were disappointed with the food, he told us that it’s on the menu and therefore can’t be taken off. I’m sure we just had a bad experience but left feeling very disappointed.

Lovely welcoming place, would happily use as a local if I lived in Hayle. Cosy seating and wood burning stove. Disappointed I didn't visit there till our last day

Booked for 6:30 on a Thursday, ordered starters for 3 and 2 kids meals followed by 4 mains. Ate in a timely manner, as fast as the kitchen produced the food ( food was really good) asked for a dessert menu as our mains were cleared away to be told we didn't have time as the table was rebooked. This was at 8pm. The young waitress was left breaking this news to us as the manager was stood at the end of bar. We weren't told at any point when booking or on arrival that we had a curfew. We were given the bill with a 10% surcharge which we asked to be removed, to which the response was "why aren't you happy?" to which we responded that we didn't get to finish our meal. "Why? Because you can't get dessert? Yes, indeed, we didn't get dessert. I'd fully understand if we'd taken longer than necessary or wasted time but we all ate at a reasonable speed, we even got the kids meals with the starters to speed up the process.

Plenty of food - no Guinness and only brioche buns for burgers - dog menu went down well - staff were friendly and efficient

Me my daughter and 2 granddaughters went for Sunday lunch, huge Yorkshire puddings and the meat was so tender but the roast potatoes were so over cooked hard as if they were left in oven for hrs. So was disappointed as this was given 5 stars, also wernt worth the £75 it came to, we didn't have starters or dessert either. And only had soft drinks.

Great place we only had a few drinks, the staff were super friendly, and welcoming. The pub was clean tidy and well decorated, we even sat on an amazingly comfortable leather sofa. The food coming out looked fabulous. Lots of signage about there Sunday roast which I imagine is great so booking essential

Unfortunately food took much longer than expected to arrive, expected homemade fish and chips recieved thin piece of fish sat on small bed of french fries not great other meals good. Do not agree with the 10% surcharge on bill. Did raise problem with server who offered me a additional wait for chips, we not talk about claims everything is made in house yet staff carry frozen bags of chips through restaurant, it was additionally raised with waitress that fish was not nice and had multiple bones in it! Cost of meal was reduced by 50% but when adding the £15 Added management tax the £8 meal cost reduction was insignificant!

Lovely pub, friendly staff. Visited on a Sunday and probably had the last sitting for the roast. Whilst the turkey and the ham were nice, the beef was almost inedible. We would go back but perhaps not on a Sunday at 6pm.

Served by very young waitress who had no idea about the menu. Not the best service but food was good when it came. 10%service charge should not be compulsory.

Watch out for the automatic 10% tip/service charge added to the bill! Ours was nearly a tenner for mediocre food and undrinkable beverages! The draught larger didn't taste nice at all, being of hospitality industry, the lines needed cleaning, which tasted like they hadn't been done in some while. The plates we were served food on were chipped in several places, not the best food but edible. The fish cakes were small, the peas tasted old, gravy was powdery. Given 2 stars as despite the old musty smell prevalent on our visit, the route to the toilets through an unlit bar area, the 2 girls working there were lovely. Not somewhere I would choose to go again

Had the Sunday carvery 16/07. Lovely meal staff attentive nothing is too much trouble. Have used the Cornish Arms over the last few years on our annual holiday. Can never find fault, even when the country had just come out of lock down the Cornish Arms was one of the only places that year who realy went above and beyond to ensure visitors could dine safely
