Great historical pub, great beer (Sea Fury) and food was good. However, portion size small for the price. If you have a good appetite consider 3 courses. I had a main, pork belly, £21 if I recall correctly, meat was like a sausage ring, came with mash and a small portion of veg. Small gravy boat came on plate, presumably to make the meal look bigger. I had to have a dessert to fill up, and that was small too! So, good food, great old pub but be aware of portion size.

Three visits in one week tells you that we rated The Turks Head very highly. First visit was for a quick pint having walked a good few miles of the SW Coast Path. Our intended brief visit was longer than anticipated as the beer and wine & soda were spot on especially when we succumbed to the freshly cooked bar snacks. The Tempura Vegetables with miso mayonnaise and hot honey were superb and were accompanied by equally satisfying potato rostis. The young lady behind the bar was cheerful and welcoming and the entire experience persuaded us to book a table at the weekly supper club two days later. However, we decided that we couldn’t wait another 48hrs for more of the Turk’s Head experience so popped in the next evening and managed to get a table without having booked. More tempura vegtables proved to be just as delicious as previously. Two mains followed, both from the specials board. Wow! Both exceptional. The herb crusted Hake with pepperonata and butter bean purée was a really tasty dish and the Cornish Sole with crushed new potatoes, tenderstem & lemon caper butter was an absolute winner. Both presented with care and creativity. Not sure how we managed it but we finished off our meal with the Baked Alsaka and the generously portioned Stilton with Fruitcake and honey. An exceptional meal in an authentic characterful setting in which the atmosphere made it clear that everyone was content with the excellent food and drink being consumed. Final visit on our week long holiday was for the supper club and we had a truly lovely evening. The place was ‘buzzing’ when we arrived - a good indication that we had made the right choice. Couldn’t fault the two chaps who were behind the bar and also serving the food. They were really conscientious and attentive and served our two courses and bottle of wine with character and a sense of fun. Pea and Mint soup with sourdough for our starters looked and tasted beautiful. Mains were the home made Steak and Ale pie with mash and buttered veg. Just the kind of comfort food we needed after walking 10 miles of the SW Coast Path. All washed down with a very nice bottle of Leslie’s Reserve Brut from the Balfour Hush Heath Estate. I’ve said a lot already so will bring this to a close but our final visit this week was again without fault. The Turk’s Head is a must visit place in Penzance and combines a richness of atmosphere with reasonably priced quality cuisine served by cheerful and conscientious staff. Keep doing what you’re doing. Thank you.

Excellent supper club deal. Food was lovely well above the average pub. Pie was nice a hot, the food cooked to order. I would definitely go again, drink prices for beer not expensive. The service was relaxed but not slow and very welcoming. Nice to have a more interesting choice. I would definitely go again.

Visited for Christmas lunch. Staff were friendly and welcoming. I can't speak for everyone, but my meal was mediocre. Soup was bland and mushroom pie hard, served with new potatoes, carrots. Sticky toffee pudding was delicious. I wouldn't normally leave a review, but for a Christmas meal costing £90.00 each, it was a little plain and being downstairs had no atmosphere. I'm sure lots of people had a better experience. Wouldn't do Christmas lunch here again.

Following an aquatic work out at the nearby geo-thermal lido we required suitable sustenance. The Turk’s Head more than provided this. In spades, with super friendly staff. A pint of Birra Morretti and a steak sandwich. But no ordinary sandwich, oh no, chef Patrick had seared the British beef in garlic, butter and rosemary and the heavenly frites were light as oxygen itself. The flavoursome combination left us lost for superlatives. Beautiful. Thank you Lynda Joan and Martin Paul X

Visited here on Wednesday evening (9th October). What a great pub - very atmospheric and on an equally pleasant and atmospheric street in Penzance. The young staff were very welcoming, friendly and helpful. This included recommending an excellent local beer (Verdant Light Bulb - extra pale ale) and chatting about the history of the pub. Very good fish & chips - which was sufficient on this occasion along with a couple of pints of the refreshing Light Bulb. However, for anyone in Penzance on a Wednesday it is the pub's 'Supper Club' with a very good value two-course offer plus an offer on a bottle of wine, which the staff made me aware of immediately I sat down. Big thanks for a superb experience.

Great location along a cute historic street. It's a very busy bar area with tables scattered around. We had pre-booked online, so had a small table reserved in the back. Our waitress was awesome, helping me to choose a meal that would keep me safe from a capsicum allergy. She ran up and down the stairs to the kitchen to consult the chef, several times. Our food was served within short time, and was very good. I had chosen the chicken schnitzel with seasonable vegetables as a side dish. This is a great spot to enjoy dinner in a historic pub. And great that it is open on Monday night when many others are closed.

We were sure to make a dinner booking for a Monday night as many restaurants in Penzance are closed. We were seated immediately at a table that had our name on it. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful in assisting to choose a meal that would not affect a capsicum allergy. She went out of her way to speak with the chef several times. I chose the chicken schnitzel with a side of seasonable vegetables. The chicken was tender and very tasty. The food was presented in quick time and we were in and out of the restaurant in a little over an hour, despite it being super busy. This is a great little spot, but I'd suggest booking, which can be done online. The pub is located on a beautiful historic street which made it even more appealing.

Olde worlde pub but they do the olde worlde rather well. The history is interesting and the interior hasn't been over-restored; see the photos. It's a couple of weeks since we went and I can't remember what we ate or drank because there was a fascinating group from Reading who were doing a sort of art tour and knew a lot about many many things. You can see the menu in the photos. But lack of memory doesn't detract from the very pleasant experience and the most helpful service; those bits I do remember!

We have visited this establishment on and off over the past 20 years and find it disappointing to report that standards are not as they were. The food was of an unremarkable quality, hardly in keeping with the price and failed to meet with expectations. The bar staff were notified as to the shortcomings but shrugged them off as unworthy of meaningful comment. From a health and safety perspective the lower dining room is a venue to be avoided in our judgement. The stairway is ill lit, has low beams which are difficult to see and has steps which are inconsistent in height. Anyone who is unlucky to lose their footing will have the benefit of a large glass panel handily positioned at the foot of the stairs which will succeed in breaking their fall. Aside from these rather negative comments, the waitress was excellent.

Came upon this quaint little pub while exploring the old town behind the seafront. It's very easy to spot because of the colourful flags on the front of the building. It's also a very ancient pub ( 800 years old according to the chatty young barman who served me), with wooden beams and nautical pictures on the walls. There's even a smuggler's passage hidden beneath the pub. It's sealed off now because it's unsafe, but you can go down some steep steps to the basement to see the old wooden door leading to it. There's a nice little beer garden at the back, but I had lunch in the cosy bar. The staff were both hospitable and friendly. Chose a local cider from a very extensive drinks menu, and it was really good. Plenty to choose from on the lunch menu too, including sandwiches, traditional pub favourites and seafood dishes, but I only wanted something light, so I ordered two of the bar snacks: tempura vegetables with a Japanese dipping sauce, and pea and mint arancinis with lemon mascapone. The portions were generous, and what a delicious mix of flavours! Good value for money too. Enjoyed the time I spent at this pub, and would highly recommend!

4 of us visited for dinner last night. We prebooked, arrived on time. Waited over an hour for drinks, and when they came one was missing. It took us a further 15 minutes to get the fourth, and even then we had to go to the bar. Menu choices looked good (if expensive) but we hoped for quality. Food was another long wait (every table around us had the same issue, it was the talk of the area we were in). When our food arrived, 3 plates came, but one was missing. After a further delay we were told it had been missed off the ticket. The fourth plate eventually arrived but was sadly the poorest attempt at fish and chips. The piece of fish was tiny, surrounded by a brick of cremated batter (stick a fork in and send shrapnel flying!) the duck salad, at £17 was ridiculously overpriced - a mound of watercress, a spoonful of shredded duck and a couple pieces of watermelon. Service was chaotic, two lovely young women who told us they were new in post but they clearly had no direction or support. They were totally out of their depth even though many tables were empty. Every single table had a major issue with drinks or food. Overall, very overpriced for very poor quality food. We did make all these points to the person who processed our bill, who apologised and acknowledged they’d had a very bad night (apparently a new team and they’d forgotten it was Easter weekend). They did remove the fish and chips, but frankly, almost £100 for the food and drinks we had was a waste of money. We are fairly local (SE Cornwall) and will return for drinks as we often do, but wouldn’t waste our money again on food.

So very friendly and accommodating. We stayed in the car park in our van overnight after a lovely evening with great food and absolutely fantastic service with a backing track of stunning tunes. Brilliant!!!
