The family arranged a birthday lunch for me. The new owners and staff were lovely, making the room and tables nice with white linen cloths, glitter and deccies. The food was outstanding as always, with the added bonus of attentive staff for our party. A great price, a great atmosphere, great food and very welcoming for all ages and abilities. Would recommend and definitely go again. Well done all.

Visited the Skipper tonight as we head it was under new management and we was delighted with the welcome we received. First impressions were how clean the pub was particularly behind the bar which was well stocked with lots of local favourites. The new management couple couldn’t have been more friendly and it was nice to see lots of local faces enjoying a brew together. The bar man was both friendly and professional and seemed very excited when explaining all the changes that were being made including theme nights and live music evenings. It was lovely to see such a mix of ages all feeling extremely comfortable and relaxed, exactly how you would imagine a buzzy local pub should be. I must say after a lovely evening the least I could do is show appreciation by giving an honest review and say a big thank you for a lovely Saturday night.

We held a days workshop here including a buffet lunch and it's such a beautiful place. The owners and staff were so helpful and nothing was too much trouble including providing a birthday cake at a few hours notice. The food was delicious, freshly prepared, plentiful and very reasonably priced. The room we used was ideal for us and had such a lovely atmosphere. We really can't recommend the skipper inn highly enough xx

We visited this pub for our Sunday Roast having seen it advertised when we went for a drink one evening. The carvery was delicious and plentiful. Drinks prices very reasonable. If we are in this area again we would definitely return. Just like a pub used to be, good food, drinks and a friendly local atmosphere.

Myself and my husband came here for Sunday lunch. Its quirky little pub at the front and then you walk down the hallway into a lovely relaxed restaurant where you sit for your lunch. The food was cooked beautifully. The meat was beautiful. We had a choice of gammon, turkey, beef and pork and a lovely selection of freshly cooked veg. It was a beautiful Sunday lunch just like "mama used to make" homely and the you can help yourself to the veg and gravy. Both of us thoroughly enjoyed it and even tried their delightful puddings. We would recommend this pub for a nice Sunday lunch and when we visit the area again we will definitely go there again.

But...the decor makes the place look grubby.. to much clothing on the ceilings and walls. . the floor is all up and a tripping hazard and the veiw through the window to the stone wall is less than desirable..but.. staff were very friendly, nice reception just not for us in future tho, would be great for other events

The standard of carvery food here is second to none and I would definitely recommend it for the food. However, we didn't feel we had a particulalry warm welcome. It wasn't an unfriendly place, but it wasn't particularly friendly either...we felt it was rather 'clicky', which is a shame as we only live round the corner, so it's probably the nearest pub to us. But never mind...there are plenty of other pubs in the area that we can go to instead.

The Skipper Inn, Brixham was the venue for our friends birthday party. We’d been there once before for another party celebration. Both times we were so impressed by the service we received from the team. An old and quaint looking Brixham pub with lots of charm and character. We’re told they are famous for their Sunday lunch so we’re looking forward to eating there.

We phoned this pub to check they allowed dogs and then booked a table for 5 for Sunday lunch. Upon arriving at the pub my husband was greeted by an incredibly unfriendly welcome. The staff were incredibly rude and denied any knowledge of the dogs or my telephone call. They ummed and arred about whether they had a table or not despite the pub being half empty. When my husband said he would just leave due to the unfriendliness the staff just laughed at him. What a disappointment. Perhaps of you are local its different but if you are a visitor stay away from this horrible grotty place.

We were in Devon and were after a good carvery for our Sunday lunch, so we went on trip advisor to get some recommendations and based on the reviews for the skipper inn we phoned ahead and booked a table. The previous reviews are correct, the food was delicious. It all tasted like proper homemade roast dinner. There were 4 types of meat to choose from and plenty of veg options. However, what the reviews failed to mention was the pub itself. Firstly we really struggled to find anywhere to park (not a problem if you are a local and walking). Then we entered a very small, dark pub and were a bit confused until the barmaid told us to go through a side door and down an indoor/covered alleyway past barrels, crates etc. At the bottom of the alleyway, was a function room with a hatch for the carvery and a small bar in the corner. We sat at the table and considered leaving due to the damp smell and the dirty paper/plastic table cloth, however our hungry tummies and the prospect of not finding anywhere else still serving a roast dinner made us stay. The bar had no sparkling water and the bar maid had to go to the main bar to get orange juice. The carvery staff seemed very casual and had no apron or gloves but were very friendly and accommodating making sure we had a bowl for our toddler with an extra Yorkshire pud. The toilets were pretty grotty too and had no hand driers. There was a towel but I decided not to use it as I don't find this very hygienic.

We booked a Sunday Carvery for 2 large families at the last minute having found reviews on trip advisor. We all felt so glad we did. This pub is a little gem! You couldn't meet a bunch of more welcoming and friendly people than here. And what's more the Sunday lunch was really yummy, plates piled high with proper home cooked food served and eaten in a warm and friendly atmosphere. A proper pub! Thank you to all the wonderful staff, we will certainly be back. Perhaps not in the most picturesque setting Brixham has to offer but for service, friendliness and quality it beats the harbourside venues hands down! We loved it. Would recommend highly.

Fantastic Sunday Carvery loads of nice fresh veg and not stingy with the meat. You can eat in the bar or the restaurant area, which ever you prefer and in the summer there is a nice sun trap bear garden if you get any sun lol. They show all the sports to keep hubby happy and have a large function room that I believe is rent free. So great if you want to throw a party. We followed a recommendation to have Sunday Roast at 'the Skippers'. Whilst the actual restaurant area is a bit dingy and dated; and is only reached by walking down a uninviting internal alleyway, if you want the best Sunday Roast in Brixham (maybe anywhere to be honest) then this is the place. Forget your posh over-priced piecemeal stuff, this is the real wholesome stuff, the real deal...proper roast meat carved in front of you (turkey, beef or pork), proper roasties (not fluffy balls), well cooked veg (not blanched like they do in posh places), big Yorkshire puds, plus thick gravy etc. etc. all for much less than you should pay. Also, don't expect lardy-dar staff, these ladies don't mess about and I imagine a pretty good at describing spades - they cook a mean dinner though. The best way to get there is either foot or taxi as you will not be able to park your car, as there is no car parking at all, I tried and failed. Book a table too.

Probably best to book ahead. Sunday carvery is excellent value for money and is delish! We chose from Pork and crackling, Beef, Gammon or Turkey. Then you add Yorkshire puds, stuffing and gravy. Veg, choose from red cabbage, leeks in creamy sauce, cauliflower cheese, carrots, peas, broccoli, cabbage and roast potatoes. Veggie choice is Nut roast with all the veg or simply carvery without meat but with extra Yorkshires. The staff are lovely and happy to tell you about the best things to see in the local area. Toilets are spotlessly clean. Very limited parking outside the pub, however it's not far to walk from the town centre. Would definitely return.

We've been coming to this pub for food for quite a few years and it's mostly been very good indeed but the Sunday carvery these days is excellent. , A local, a bit off the beaten track for day trippers, which is bigger than it looks has a fairly modest looking dining room but the food is excellent. There are four meats which are tender and plentiful with the usual accompaniments, then roast potatoes and a good selection of vegetables which aren't cooked to a pulp! If you have room for them, the puddings are good too. Prices are very reasonable indeed and the staff are friendly to regulars and strangers alike. It's probably best to book as the dining room gets very busy around 1pm.I've only got one moan.....please, please do meals on a daily basis!!

We got there early and it's as well we did as a lot of the tables were reserved by locals. The staff were very welcoming and informative of good places to visit with the children. There was a choice of 4 meats and you could have some of each if you liked. There was a huge range of veg and also Yorkshires, stuffing and crackling. We left feeling absolutely stuffed. We were in Brixham to celebrate my Niece's 21st birthday and the rear room of the pub was hired out to hold the party. So the is not really a review of the pub as such, but rather a review of the rear bar / carvery area ! The pub, on first entering, is rather small, and gives the impression of being a bit of a "locals" bar. A side corridor leads to the rear of the pub. A side room seemed to be a "football" room and was full during out visit due to a Chelsea v Spurs match. The gents is just on the opposite side of the corridor, so very convenient for boozed up football fans. The room we had hired (the carvery room) was very spacious with a small (but adequate) bar. The two bar staff stayed throughout the party and we also had a disco/karaoke (which, I don't think, was supplied by the pub. There was plenty of seating available and the centre of the room left free for dancing.

Not been here since the late 70's so decided to return on our latest holiday to wonderful Brixham. We had Sunday lunch carvery £6.50 each, desserts were £3.50 but we were to full to sample. Lunch was great, generous portions of meat with a choice of 4 and Yorkshires offered with all meats. It's an old pub with plenty of charm, with friendly owners and staff; children are made very welcome although we left ours at home. It's approximately 20 minutes a steady non hilly walk from town in a part of Brixham visitors wouldn't normally venture too which is a shame. This place is full of locals which is a good sign! A separate room is dedicated to football where you can watch sky sports and it also offers free wifi. Booking essential....give it a try.

I found this purely by googling 'Brixham carvery' and read some excellent reviews, so booked for the next day. It is definitely worth a visit, hidden of the beaten track it's not on most tourists radars so no screaming kids! £6.50 for one of the best carverys I have ever had and lovely service too. 4 choices of meat and more veg than I have ever seen on a carvery. This place puts the mainstream likes of 'Toby' to shame. It was replenished often and all cooked to perfection. Worth booking as it doesn't seat lots of people.
