They advertise at the front and back of the building that food is served but no food is served. False advertising. Its not hard to take down a sign guys.

This place just gets better and better. Great set of lads that go in there (and lasses). Good atmosphere and great ales. Started doing freshly made pizza now, which is great. Probably one of the last true locals pubs about now. 👍

Ace just called in for food whilst passing. Warm greeting by the bar staff. As it has recently been taken over pizza is on the menu. And they are great I had the pepperoni and my wife had the BBQ chicken. Well 3/4 of it I was called in to help her finish it. Brilliant atmosphere only stopped for food but ended up making a night of it and we can't wait to come back. Cheers Guys.

Went in for a quiet one after work, the poorly proportioned table and chairs ended up with a drink getting knocked over, went over to the bar explained it had been knocked over. Presuming landlord or manager asked what happened, we explained, bar maid made out I hadn't mentioned it to her. Not the experience you'd expect charging £5+ for a pint. Will NOT be returning.

Been taken over a few weeks apparently. No food served, not sure they will be doing or not? The new roads may well have done for the place, which is a shame as it was a lovely pub for food and atmosphere. No atmosphere now and seems to be a local drinking place with the requisite staring if you're not from round these parts. Needs the actual Google search updating by the owners to reflect no food now.

First time here. Decent selection of beers and better selection of bar snacks than most pubs.

Travelled to the pub/restaurant for my anniversary. Not the fault of the venue, but the menu is very specific. Improvements could be adding some local favourites, Gammon and chips whilst not my favourite would be a simple option, however now I've visited this place would probably swap out gammon for prosciutto ham - but who to say. Anyway , on this actually visit, took the option of the specials board 2 lots of fish and chips. Fish = Amazing. Chips = not so much. Left more than half. Can't decide if they were reheated or parboiled using a microwave. Either way funny crunch to than, whilst soggy and floppy. Don't think I'll visit again unless there are better reviews and a new simple menu.

Excellent, We asked for buffet for 20 after a family funeral. The sandwiches were varied and delicious. Warm chicken, sausage rolls, mini quiche and triple cooked chips. Gateaux and cream after with tea and coffee. No need to be worried about portions, there was plenty with enough to be taken home in food boxes provided. Price was more than reasonable, in fact the best value buffet, ever. Staff polite and nothing too much trouble. Roadworks in area at the moment ( summer 2022) may put visitors off. Don’t be put off. After a day marshalling for the Manchester to Blackpool charity bike ride, its was welcome respite from the hot, but windy day, very friendly and beautiful surroundings

Had such a relaxing pint today, will definitely start going regularly. We sat in comfy chairs by the crackling fire and it was super cosy. The two young ladies on the bar were really lovely.

May have been half price but still not worth the money. Cheese pie disgusting thankfully small serving with 6 chips. Waitresses friendly but had no idea about Covid precautions we watched as she cleared the crumbs off a table onto the floor and then sat a family down at the table. Didn’t complain at the time as this was a family treat - conservatory window sill was filthy and we won’t be going back.

We dined on wednesday night and were presently suprised. We just wanted a pub dinner and the food was great. Beer was well looked after (moretti) and fish n chips was good. The only drawback was the food was served on paper plates and and takeaway cartons.

me and my son visited on Wednesday night because it was nearby and I couldn't be bothered cooking. I knew the pub had new management but hadn't visited since they took over. I was a little worried when we entered as 2 very young looking staff were behind the bar and 1 was on her phone. We were quickly seated and drinks were very prompt. Disposable menus(a little hard to read) but we managed. Garlic bread as a starter, great value and tasty. Lasagne and fish n chips as mains were great and good value. I shouldn't have worried about the service as the 3 girls were young but looked after us well.

Tried here again for lunch after a lowsey new years day visit 2 years ago hoping things may have improved. So, only me and my wife & daughter in the pub, nice young lady showed us to a table in a rather run down conservatory. Another pleasant young lass took our orders which we made from quite a poor menu. Our drinks arrived 5 minutes apart, and then another 20/25 minutes for the food (good for a full decent meal).... But this wasn't! I ordered beef curry, my wife the chicken mushroom pie, daughter had a pizza. 1st,beef curry, this was served on a paper plate as my wife's meal was, presumably to save on washing up? The pizza arrived in a pizza box! Beef curry for £9 consisted of around 12 chunky chips and about 2 tablespoons of curry! Wife's pie wasn't a pie, it was filling spooned onto a paper plate and a puff pastry lid sat on top with again a portion of chips. Is the basic definition of a pie not consist of pastry containing a filling topped with a lid of some kind? No veg at all either. To be fair, the flavour was OK. The pizza.... Good size, very thin, looked like a town centre Saturday night offering. For the advertised price of £9 per meal it was shocking. Even after the tax payers contribution to my bill(eat out scheme) it was still over priced fayre. I didn't mention the fact the curry should have involved rice but as last time we visited, they didn't have any! This is the last visit I'm afraid, plemty of pubs doing proper food in the area that's actually quality. So, nice staff,...... And that's your lot!

Ok, so we got 50% off our food. Government scheme. But......., if we had paid full price our meals, we would have been even more disappointed than we were. My wife ordered a sirloin steak (£17.50 and I ordered a beef curry, £8.00). We waited 35 minutes for our food, even though it was 1430 and it wasn’t busy. Fair enough. We went as our family had said it wasn’t too bad and that we should try it. Oh dear. Steak was as picture with half a tomato and some fried mushrooms with frozen chips. That was it. She ate it as we were hungry and the young girls, charming as they were, didn’t seem to have much of a clue about what was required if you are charging these prices. My curry was ok, but I’m guessing I had 1 serving spoonful. Look at the photo. No chutney, nothing. Luke warm, too. Best of all, we were seated outside, which was just a well, as both meals were served on picnic plates. On a plus note, the Thwaites smooth was nice.

Can't believe how dirty the toilets were especially in this Covid climate . Reported them to the barmaid who stated it wasn't her responsibility so asked her to pass it on to manager. During our meal the said barmaid then went in to clean the toilets. When we arrived there were only 3 customers in the pub, we asked if they were still serving food and was told yes but we couldn't have a table till 2.30pm as they were busy. We had a drink whilst waiting and only saw 4 other customers come in during that hour. When our food arrived it was on a polystyrene plate and didn't look very appealing. Not the quality you would expect in a country pub very disappointing needless to say I won't be going back.

Me and my daughter had a great lunch here this week, highly recommend! The Super, Mega Turbo Burger was a challenge, but very tasty indeed. My daughter had a pizza, which was, in her words 'fabulous'. The best part was the Sticky Toffee Pudding!!! 🤤🤤🤤

Ordered 3 different pizzas Garlic bread with cheese and 2 lots of chips to take away. The pizzas are cooked in a proper pizza oven and are lovely and fresh, thin based pizzas with good quality toppings and the chips are delicious!.... homemade chunky chips mmmmmmn. Our favourite is the mighty meaty. The chef is fantastic! We have previously been for meals and he is very accommodating, especially for anyone with food intolerances or allergies. He is very passionate about his food and will explain what is in meals etc, he was brilliant when our friend asked what she could or couldn’t have on the menu due to an intolerance she has and he gave her a huge selection. She was so impressed as elsewhere usually ends up with salad due to no choice. Could not recommend the food here more, first class service. Thank you

The Sitting Goose has been open for takeaway and their bacon rolls are delicious. Looking forward to it opening fully in the future.

Good food served by friendly staff. There is a playground for kids, but I found it slightly lacking in atmosphere.

My friend is helping me move, so I decided time fof lunch, my daughter had told me that 'The Sitting Goose' was under new ownership. Not too busy but folk in, sat down to look at the menu. My friend had the Steak and I had the Steak and Blue Cheese Pie. Omg the pastry was so light and you could actually taste the blue cheese. Everything homemade it was a real pleasure to eat REAL food. Recommend totally- will be back.

We stop off at the Sitting Goose when the google sat nav got us lost and am I glad what a lovely pub the staff were very welcoming especially Pamela , My dad had the French onion Soup as he doesn't eat a lot and said it was worth putting in a can to sell .I had the Pasta Cabonara with Chicken and I have to say it's the best I have had outside Italy. My husband had the Chicken roast and said it was very tender . Dessert my Dad and I had the Lemon an Lime cheese cake very nice , my husband had the apple and blackberry crumble with custard which he enjoyed . Will definately return to this place and their nice open fires and warm welcome

Decided to try the Sitting Goose at Bartle since it's under new ownership. So glad we did. A good menu and specials board. Something for everyone. All food is fresh and cooked on the premises. Ours was fresh, delicious and hot. Rob and his team work hard to ensure the customers are comfortable and eat well. If you are looking for good honest pub food cooked by a chef then definitely worth visiting the Sitting Goose.

Sunday dinner could be improved. Better veg, chicken and roast potatoes are needed. Chicken nuggets, chips and onion rings were better. Service good and staff pleasant. Place still needs a makeover.

Had a 30th birthday party here and what can I say. The food was there as quick as you could imagine. It was red hot. And was all home made. And you could tell. It was amazing. Not pub food at all. Really really good. Would give 10 stars. Will definitely go again

Nice new owners and food is really nice

So we've packed the kids off for a night to the grandparents and decided to try the sitting goose. We've seen mixed reviews but I can say for sure that the food was amazing, IPA lovely and Hendricks Gin spot on. Staff all very friendly, owner made an effort to talk to us and prices were very reasonable. Couldn't fault and we had a great evening. I will be recommending to friends and family.

Myself & my husband went to this beautiful pub for our 2nd Year Anniversary and I have to say the trip from Lancaster was well worth it! Beautiful food, wonderful, friendly staff and the owner is fantastic too! He was always around and very friendly, can comfortably have a conversation and a laugh with him! I can not express how amazing this place is... Well worth the visit!

Food was very good. Couldn't fault it and there was plenty of things I wanted to try. Service was lacking somewhat (young/inexperienced waiting on staff) but the landlord was quick to rectify any issues. he was also very obliging and friendly. I would definitely eat here again.

Visited for an evening meal, friendly waitress who had not been told that you do not serve red wine in an ice bucket.my wife had the fish pie . This consisted of minimal quantity of salmon mush covered by a very thick layer of mash potato which was served with chips. Salmon being the only fish that could be detected which was bland and tasteless. I had the Stilton and steak pie, nice steak but the strong Stilton flavour was a little too much. Whilst paying for the meal, the waitress brought the uneaten fish pie over to the manager, showing it to him before we could point out our disappointment with the meal. No apology was given and certainly no reduction in the bill. We do not intend to return .

I went to the sitting goose for a meal out with my daughter, we have not been there for 2 years ago , the environment was lovely, bright, clean, log fire very comfortable, just nice for a cold winters night, The staff were lovely polite and pleasant, we ordered a meal the service was quick, even though they were busy, and the food was excellent, Highly recommended

Nice country pub, on the inside - warm and homely. Friendly staff, too. Including the owner, who came to say hello. Ordered mixed grill - at only £12.50, thought, why not! Came after about 25 mins - not bad. Was initially struck by how small the portion was; should have known, really, with the cheap price... A sausage, a small gammon piece, a small steak and part of a chicken breast. Came with home cut chips and rocket(?) The sausage was excellent, but small. The gammon was nice - but again small - very thin. Same with the steak - cooked perfectly (rare), but small/thin. The chicken - poor. Dry and small. To be fair, a pork/lamb chop would be very much more suited in a mixed grill. The chips had great potential - very thick, but undercooked and not crispy enough. The rocket? Give me veg over that any day... Was tasty enough but could have eaten it again. I didn't, though; had to get pudding to fill the hole. Wish I had saved my money. Got sticky toffee pudding with custard. They should rename it toffee pudding, as sticky, it was not. Isn't there meant to be some sort of sticky toffee sauce on the cakey bit?! Ate it all (like I said - hungry), but it wasnt nice. Again - small. Kids got Pizza and ice cream. That was decent. Would come back for beers there, but will not be rushing back for food. Shame.

Under new ownership. Very friendly, haven't tried the food yet. It was Christmas day when we went, and the owner was offering a free drink, rum, brandy or Baileys.

Eaten here a few time and will definitely be back! The crab and prawn pizza is to die for ! And Mon to Wed 2 for the price of 1 !! Nice comfortable decor with open fire.

New owner and chef got a say the chef has nailed a quality menu all produce sourced daily and cooked fresh. Nothing microwaved like in most pubs food very much 5☆

The Cheese & Onion Pie was excellent with real cooked chips and a hot plate. Great service and a tasty desert.

Rob and his team catered for our daughter and son-in-laws wedding just after Christmas. The staff were very welcoming and coped extremely well with a very busy bar!! We were served canapes by a team of helpful and friendly waiters and waitresses. The canapes were freshly prepared, beautifully presented, very tasty and can recommend the black pudding bombs and sticky pigs in blankets. The hotpot and chilli were superb but the star of the show for me was the cheese and onion pie, delicious. There was a variety of mini desserts ( so we tried them all), they again were beautifully presented light and tasty. A perfect end to a wonderful meal. My hats off to Rob and his brilliant team from chef to bar and waiting on staff. Couldnt do enough for us and nothing was too much trouble. Under Rob's management this country pub is a must to visit. Lovely freshly prepared food, great staff, a friendly ambience, what more could you ask for. Would definitely recommend.

Been here a long time ago but seems to be under new management. My husband and I decided to go for lunch after finishing work and wanted to avoid town as it was ‘mad friday’. We were amazed at the service from entry to exit and the food was amazing and very reasonably priced. Can’t wait to be able to go again!

Visited today with family staff where available to place order. When mains arrived parts of the Christmas lunch where missing which meant asking staff to bring out missing food. Orderded desserts this was not completed as stated on the menu asked staff to change for what was originally stated on the menu and this was again not delivered as stated on the menu. Made staff aware of this again at this point chef came out of the kitchen to question me which led to us feeling threatened and uncomfortable. Would definitely not visit again.

Called in for lunch. Was very quite but that could have been because of the weather Met by very pleasant staff. We both had chicken & mushroom pie which was delicious. Came in a pie dish with puff pastry top - real cuts of chicken and mushroom. Chips an onion rings really tasty too. They had justice lit log fire as we arrived. Understand pub changed hands last summer. Would definitely recommend food and will be eating there again.

Warm friendly pub/ restaurant serving well kept real ales. Excellent head chef with interesting menu I had the steak and blue cheese pie which was first class and a slice of lime and lemon cheesecake yum!

We were struggling to find somewhere for lunch and happened along The Sitting Goose, not exactly our neck of the woods but we will be returning! We decided on the Christmas lunch and we weren’t disappointed, the food was delicious and plentiful and just to top it all off the staff were lovely too. The lunch we had consisted of fresh foods, not frozen, and were cooked to perfection. It was homemade food with a special touch. I think the place has just been taken over, if today was the benchmark it ought to be a roaring success!

I am not the easiest person to please or impress when it comes to my food or the service provided. I have just had a meal at the sitting Goose with the new management team and Chef. The food is in my view the best food I have tasted in a long time, they have some of the best food I have tasted from anywhere in the world, bar none. The staff are pleasant, cheerful and efficient but the Chef is extremely skilled, if you taste his food without any seasoning (salt/pepper) you will taste the layers of flavour that the chef wants you to taste, his unique style refreshing and very tasty. If you haven't tried the food at the sitting goose, you are missing a hidden gem in Preston and Lancashire. It is well worth the trip from anywhere and you are served with good quality freshly prepared food, reasonable prices, I have a big appetite and I couldn’t eat all the food on my plate. My wife and I went out for our anniversary meal and we highly recommend the sitting goose for any event or just a nice meal out, if you enjoy eating out and are looking for a place to eat with great quality food The Sitting Goose is the place you must try, if you do, you won't be disappointed.

New chefs! chicken and mushroom pie, is what I choose from the new menu, and I was very pleasantly surprised. Quick service and fabulous food. If you have tried and been disappointed you need to try again.

Had pre booked for 4 of us for 1pm. On arrival they were mopping the bar area, not a great start. We were shown to a table in restaurant area but cold in there so back to bar where mopping continued whilst ordering drinks, should have left at this point. On attempting to order food, the 2 pies we chose not available, why were we not told this when given the menus. At this point gave up, paid for drinks and made a hasty retreat. Booked here as good reviews, perhaps poor because a Monday lunchtime but will certainly not be returning .

Really enjoyed our visit to Sitting Goose as I'd heard so much about it. Lovely food, family friendly and great to see you can take your dog along too. We loved their pizzas! I understand they have some great entertainment on, on a regular basis.

My partner and I had Sunday lunch here today and thoroughly enjoyed the food.

it's gone cold so how nice to be met by a log fire and a friendly smile from the barmaid. we enjoyed our lunch and the food and service were excellent. the ladies loos were spotless which is not always the case when dining out. we were slightly out of our normal area and pleased to find such a nice pub.
