This had been recommended to us by family, and we managed to get lunch here on the last day of our break away. It was good value, plentiful and very tasty: we had salads, pasta and the scampi between us. The freshly baked bread with some of the dishes was a nice touch. Plenty of room to sit inside and a relaxed atmosphere that put us at ease. A good place to stop and refuel.

We visited over the weekend and found the singing kettle sun a prime position for passing business. It was not busy with only four tables occupied. Card payment only. Ordered two cream teas. The tea was served promptly but had to wait 30 minutes for the scones to arrive. Totally disappointed, two scones and tiny pots of jam/cream that wouldn’t even cover one scone, served way after the tea had cooled. Other guests around us were complaining of long waits. Hot food not available after 1.30. Won’t be returning.

Superb little place that we used on each of our 3 days for breakfast as we were staying at the nearby Premier Inn. Excellent value for money on a varied menu. Food was presented well and piping hot. What a refreshing change to have a pot of tea with proper tea leaves in and not your average large teabag. Both ladies who served us were excellent and made us feel very welcome. Would definitely recommend and if we visit Torquay again we’ll be back.

We were stupid, should have sent back what they purported to be crab sandwiches. It was like the crab spread you used to be able to buy in jars and spread so thinly there was almost nothing there. Certainly no white bits. Disaster. The waitress apologised when she asked if we liked them, but no refund/reduction offered. AVOID CRAB SANDWICHES AT ALL COSTS.

I reviewed the Singing Kettle in August 2017 and made a point of taking a group of four friends back for what I knew would be an excellent breakfast. However the day before our visit I discovered that it was under new ownership, so it was with some trepidation that I dragged my friends there, especially as I had been "bigging it up" on the journey down from London. I was more than pleasantly surprised to say that the welcome was amazing, the staff were fun and friendly, and the food quality was superb and excellent value. I really do wish that I had asked for the names of management and staff as I would like to have mentioned them all personally, but sufficed to say they were a big talking point amongst my friends, who all wanted to return the next day (20th Sept) even though we had to change our plans to do so! This really is a must visit for anyone visiting Torquay, or even worth the journey in you are are staying further afield. When I returned home I had the various text "thank you's" for organising the trip, with two of the 4 offering a special thank you for taking them to the "The Singing Kettle" ! (but not even mentioning the Steam Train and river cruise I took them on!)Thank you again, and we will see you next year!

Average place. I came for a dairy and gluten free afternoon tea; of which was only gluten free. So I ate a sausage sandwich with gluten free bread. My family had the afternoon teas which came wrong, but we had paid for the smaller one.A suggestion for the owner to have a piece of paper with the order as each order is specific, and then to hand this to the waitress. The daughter seemed knowledgeable and could help with the menu, but the other lady not so much. All were very polite though, and amended what they could.

Just completed a lovely week in Torquay. Walked past this place most days and decided to try out on our last morning for breakfast. Firstly the food was excellent. Very tasty indeed. However, on what was a quiet time with possibly 2 other covers we were left to wait at door to be seated. Then led to a table that had not been cleaned. Order taken, but delivered incorrectly and with part of order also missing. Also found out afterwards that I had been overcharged. But to cap it all off I noticed the waitress responsible for the poor service continued to leave her mask below her chin most of the time AND spotted her rolling a cigarette in the kitchen area, go outside presumably to smoke it, only to return and not wash hands but immediately serve bacon baps to another cover. Wholly unacceptable. The ladies cooking were aware of this and did nothing.

Went in on the 11th August after checking they were on the Government's "Eat out to help out" website, which they were. Ordered our food only to be charged the full amount, both members of staff said that as far as they were aware the cafe wasn't on the scheme. I showed them the government website with the cafe listed. One of the rang her boss who told her that it was a mistake and that the cafe wasn't going on the scheme until next week. Having had that moan the food was ok, staff pleasant but Heart Radio blasting away was a tad loud.

We are staying at the Abbey Sands hotel. We checked in yesterday and we're feeling a bit peckish. Looked out of the window and could see the Singing kettle so thought we'd pop over to see what they sell. we were made to feel welcome as soon as we entered. The menu is quite extensive from snacks to main meals but we opted for the cream tea. The fruity scones were served lovely and warm, with jam and clotted cream. The staff couldn't have been more friendly or helpful. They didn't even mind when I asked for some butter for my scones and promptly brought some over. The scones were delicious as was my coffee. I think I'll go back later this afternoon for another one and start the diet next week.

Went here as they did gluten free afternoon tea but was left a bit disappointed. They have a separate gluten free menu and the lady who makes the food really knows here allergens it seems (separate prep area etc). 3 cakes were available gluten free, two of which were also dairy free and dairy free margarine was used for our sandwiches.Maybe they were having a bad day but things did not go smoothly. They seemed to have a new asian lady taking the orders and she could not understand my accent...despite my job being one where I deal with people in a clinical setting and I often get comments on how easy I am to understand.Anyway, we tried to make our order, but she gave us a pen and paper to write it down as she couldn't understand. Then she came out after a bit to check which part was gluten free (later the person preparing to food came out with it to the table and that is how we know she knows her stuff). Part of the order did not arrive and so we had to chase it. The gluten free afternoon tea on the menu says a choice of cookie was included but there are no GF cookies. The gluten free sandwiches were a but dry and bland sadly and the cakes were sweet but a bit tasteless.I so wanted to like it here but just felt a bit let down by the end. Not awful but not a treat.

Visited this tea room again this year as when we visited last year we had a very good experience. However, we quickly came to notice that the place had been taken over by new owners because of the difference in service. The service was very slow despite the lady behind the counter trying her very best to be pleasant and friendly. Our drinks arrived approx 10 mins after ordering despite it being very quiet. Then a man who came in after we had ordered received his cream tea first. I had nearly finished my drink when I went up to check where our cream tea was after half an hour. However, the cream tea was nice but unfortunately because of the service we will not be returning anytime soon.

Lovely staff, very friendly and attentive. We had the cream tea which would come with 4 finger sandwiches, 1 scone, and tea/coffee (for one person). The man swapped my coffee for a milkshake which was handy. The food was very tasty and good quality, however, the portion sizes were small. The scone was fairly small, the cream and jam were in one tiny pot each between two of us (could have done with a pot of cream and a pot of jam per person), and the sandwiches lacked good presentation. The finger sandwiches were scrumptious but were not cut properly and seemed a little rushed. Possibly would return though as we did enjoy the lunch!

popped in for a coffee and scones in this pretty little café just off the beach here in Torquay. Really lovely location with right outside the best tourist attraction by far, wonderful old charabancs from 90 yrs old beautifully restored and giving fab trips around the area. Go for a trip and return or the other way around and have a tasty treat of scones, fruity ,plain or special of the day, apple and cinnamon, beautiful. Light lunches and all really well done here. A perfect little place for a tasty treat in a friendly happy place.

I love this family run cafe - I've been a few times now when I have business in Torquay. They have a plug socket in the corner table so I can get some work done. Lovely staff - I once realised they'd stayed open 20 mins late so I could finish my pot of tea (loose leaf!). The food is all freshly cooked and reasonably priced: children, veggie, vegan and gf friendly! Thank you to all the staff for always making me feel welcome.

Decided to call in for lunch and a coffee, the staff were friendly, however the food was disappointing and the coffee cold, and it was quite expensive. We had sandwiches and found the bread a little stale and the side salad consisted of one quarter of a manky tomato, a slice of cucumber halved, some mixed lettuce which had seen better days, wilted and yellow and a teaspoon of coleslaw. The cappuccino was stone cold and powdery. For what we paid as well seemed very pricey too, hasten to said we won’t be visiting again.

Staff are friendly, lots of places to sit inside or out, range of products to eat or choose from, quick and easy service. As we had scones and they were soft and lush as you can just get your knife though a straight cut. Tea is freshly done as you can do it yourself through a strainer. Overall great Experince, go back their every time we go to Torquay.

I stopped here with my family and our dog for lunch and scones. It’s a small family run cafe and the food and staff were wonderful. My daughter and I had homemade soup and scones and the rest of my family had Welsh rarebit, sausage sandwiches and ham eggs and chips followed by scones. I can’t recommend this lovely place enough. Great food and great staff we’ll be back next time we are in Torquay.

The Singing Kettle Tea Room and Eatery is not only very dog friendly but also delightfully quaint serving a good array of gluten free goodies. Highly recommended for both gluten free and gluten eaters.

Clean little cafe with nice food but ordered tea which came with milk already in it and very weak so asked at counter for another tea bag as my tea was to weak (I do like a nice strong cuppa) I was told it was not a tea bag but loose tea ok fair enough but no offer to replace my cuppa so Sat back down then waiter came and asked if everything was ok I said the tea was to weak again no offer to replace it

The family and dog visited following previous recommendations and were not disappointed! The cream teas were scrumptious- probably the best scones we’ve ever eaten! The dog was also welcome, which was one of the main reasons for choosing this place. From the taking of the order to the minute we left the cafe the whole experience was great. Heartily recommended and will definitely go back next time we are in this part of the country.

Went in as seen this on tv Alex polizzi programme couple years ago was served by Clive very pleasant attentive friendly chap. Home made scones and thick Devon clotted cream complimented with pot of tea. We had a couple of cream teas whilst visiting Torquay but this was the best.

We came upon this lovely cafe while on holiday. There was a seperate gluten free menu. I had an afternoon tea consisting of one of the nicest gf breads I have tasted, and absolutely delicious cream tea, with a loose leaf pot of tea. It was so lovely we visited for the last two days of our holiday. The staff/owners so lovely and friendly too.

The coffee was lovely. The staff were lovely, but in this day and age skinny milk should be offered let’s face it even if they waste some of it a 4 pinter won’t cost them much. Both myself and my sister wanted skinny milk only semi skimmed was offered. It’s like going back in time. we really liked it here, but I don’t understand why more choices of milk weren’t offered.

Gorgeous cream tea and the scones were slightly warmed. Best coffee of our holidays and courteous staff. We can’t fault anything we had. We even stayed for another cuppa. If only we lived locally as I’d come back again

Nice relaxed atmosphere, with good choice of food. A group of 6 of us had a range of choices to eat, with wine and pretty good standard overall. Personally, I found the jerk chicken little more than a chargrilled chicken bread, with no authentic jerk heat, but with the rice etc, it was a nice meal. Just not what I had hoped. The other 5 were happy with there choices though, the salmon getting particular praise.

EXCELLENT COFFEE & BISCUIT WITH THE COFFEE, so nice we stayed for two cups!! Very dog friendly staff made lots of fuss of our dog as did other customers coming in making a fuss of him. TREATS AVAILABLE FOR DOGS TOO which was a lovely thought and deserving of business. BEING NEW TO THE AREA AND HAVING BEEN TURNED AWAY FROM OTHER NOT AS NICE CAFES NOT DOG FRIENDLY it was nice to find a genuine dog friendly cafe. There is a step into the cafe which makes it inaccessible for disabled people and unsure if there is a portable ramp, didnt see a sticker on window saying there is one available? Something that can be addressed and advertised on website by owner which would allow us to come back with other members of our family and Im sure bring in other customers/tourists looking for accessible cafes.
