Claws Indoors in Torbay

Gorgeous cream tea and the scones were slightly warmed. Best coffee of our holidays and courteous staff. We can’t fault anything we had. We even stayed for another cuppa. If only we lived locally as I’d come back again

We randomly popped in to get a hot drink and we received a very warm welcome. Although all of the tables were set up for either two or four people, they immediately adjusted a table to accommodate five of us. We ordered cream teas and a portion of calamari for my Son. Everything was lovely. Warm light delicious scones, with a fragrant cup of earl grey. My Son loved the calamari. I took a bite to try it and was surprised by how flavoursome / well seasoned it was. The service too was outstanding. Warm, personable and genuine. The only negative, was a man outside using colourful language towards a ticket warden!

Haven’t had cockles for several years and thought I would treat myself at the hut. Wish I hadn’t bothered. They were mushy which was a horrible texture and tasteless. Seems other reviewers felt the same.

Went here yesterday morning looked nice ordered 2 medium cockles and 2 medium whelks sat down at there table. Both where the worst cockles and whelks I've had,the cockles where soft and look like they had been frozen and left out and the whelks where like eating a leather shoe although I never eaten a leather shoe and not rinsed so all pots in there little bin it's i would say they shouldn't be selling them in that condition.

Popped into claws for a more snacky lunch.I had Frito Misto and husband had Whitebait. All cooked to order and served with bread and butter potato salad and coleslaw. Very filling beautifully fresh. Very nice staff, so pleased we stopped here.

Fantastic scallops. We came here last year and loved it so we were looking forward to coming back and it didn’t disappoint, the food and service were spot on!

The seafood platter was again superb, the only downside was the miserable demeanour of the girl waiting the tables, otherwise a very impressive lunch.

We had breakfast here twice very friendly staff lovely breakfast and child friendly. My six year old enjoyed his breakfast then asked to come back the next day. Highly recommended.

Stop doing English breakfast. Just finished eating there . Worst breakfast I ever had. Tiny plates used to make breakfast look bigger than it is . Fried new potatoes ( who fries new potatoes?)1 sausage, 1 piece of bacon and an egg.Mushroom portion so small could barely see it. Barely cooked half of tomato. Charged £9 for under a £1 worth of food. Breakfast was an insult.

Having read the bad reviews I was a little sceptical but was feeling a bit hungry after my sea voyage from Torquay! Started with a mixed large bowl of cockles and welks which is my usual fancy! They were completely tasteless and I thought the reviews may have been correct? However having ordered a fresh crab sandwich on brown I was blown away by the freshness of the bread and the taste of the fresh crabmeat - this lady knows how to make a crab sandwich! So much so that I told her how good it was and so much better than the one I had endured on Torquay harbour! Almost worth paying the £9 on the ferry to get one! Thank you lovely lady!

Fantastic little find is this! Great customer service and fantastic food especially the mussels. Would definitely recommend and return very soon.

Beautiful Brunch at Claws we sat outside and ordered at the kiosk our order was delivered from across the road from claws indoors, hot and fresh I throughly enjoyed eggs Benedict with bacon, my mum had fluffy scrambled eggs on wholewheat toast and my dad enjoyed a bacon sandwich. Lovely friendly service from the staff, we sat in the sunshine with a view you would normally pay a fortune for, Claws prices are very reasonable indeed, would highly recommend and will definitely be visiting again.

We were looking for the best crab in Devon. And we found it! The scallops were the best I've ever had, tender and flavourful. The salad was immense. We got so much crab, a large handful of prawns, some lovely potato salad and a gorgeous dressing. The waitress was lovely and as we were indoors we could pay by card. Definitely coming back, hopefully many times!

Avoid this place! Over priced and under delivered. Food is cooked by young amateurs that couldn’t care less. Flies everywhere! Scrambled egg was cold, toast took forever as they messed up our order. Food hygiene need to visit here. Food, including raw meat and dairy...

Went to the outside hut for lunch. Unfortunatly a terrible experience, mainly due to the very miserable and rude staff. Very disappointing.

Me and my partner had the most amazing lunch of Scallops with a lovely salad & crusty bread, the Scallops were the best we have ever tasted, cooked to perfection, top restaurant quality.

Stopped here for lunch one Saturday afternoon, we had to wait for a table to be vacated before we could dine as it was very busy. The food was delicious and reasonably priced, would recommend the crab salad.we will visit again next time in Brixham.

Whilst I can’t fault the food which was excellent I am dismayed, in this day and age, that this cafe / restaurant is ‘cash only’. Not many people carry cash these days and I have to question why they insist on cash???

Husband and I stopped for lunch and each had a crab sandwich. The service was friendly and attentive, the sandwiches were delicious and packed full of lovely fresh crab, for £8.50 each we thought it was very good value for money. Very glad we visited.

My husband and I have lived in Brixham 3 years and have always wanted to try this lovely place which was on the pavement area next to the harbour. Today was a beautiful day and was getting late so only a couple of tables occupied. Decided to stop for a longed for prawn cocktail. As a previous diner said no cash machine but as lots of places in Brixham don't have them I walked back to Co-op bank (a mere 5 mins not 30) As someone stated. Well we were not disappointed the prawns were plentiful and well presented and well worth the £8.50. We will defiantly be back for perhaps the seafood platter. Thank you

Sadly we were not able to sample the food as they only take cash and as our meal would’ve cost £23 we only had £10 cash on us .However the lady did point out that my wife could walk all the way back from where we came from back into town to the co-op to a cash machine ! a good 30 minute round trip and by the way the co-op machine was out of order so she would’ve had to then go right up the high street ! Why on earth would anyone leave their family sitting waiting whilst they trekked to a cash machine ? .The food is not cheap £7.50 for a sandwich , £18.50 for a platter so unless you carry £30 or £40 on you don’t bother to sit down with a family .88% of people in this country don’t carry cash so that’s a lot of business the must be losing , fact ! .They won’t realise this as they probably say they are busy , but there was only one table occupied and we were going to pay £23 ! And it’s a fact cash machines are closing at a huge rate due to the fact they cost businesss money and are not used as much as in years gone by .In this day and age it’s shear stupidity and the reason I bothered to review is that we spent 10 minutes choosing our food and were then disappointed as were our kids and then were told “well you could always just walk to the machine and come back “ ??? Who would ?!! My advice is get a machine it’s the 21st century .

There are only a few tables across the road by the harbour but what a setting. There is a good selection of fresh seafood available and the ladies work very hard. It is licensed so you can get a wine or a beer and sit and watch the world go by. Highly recommended.

Had lunch sitting by the harbour I had a crab sandwich which was exceptional my partner had stuffed smoke salmon and mymmothermin law had prawn cocktail all washed down with a couple of glasses of wine. On a hot spring day 2hat more could you ask for

I have never experienced such subpar, disrespectful service in my life. Myself and my partner were attracted by the lovely menu. As my partner finds shelling seafood difficult I ask for the crevettes to be served shell off, when they came to the table with the shell on I pointed this out to the manager. I also queried why I was paying the same amount of money for my meal as mine was missing bread (I’m celiac) She suddenly became very aggressive snatched the plates away from us and after telling us that we wouldn’t enjoy the food she told us to leave! She then told us we were not welcome and our custom would not be missed. The reaction from her was so extreme I’m not sure if she was having a bad day or if she needed some professional help. However we walked away feeling humiliated, embarrassed and angry.

Really enjoyed my crab sandwich earlier - markedly better than the other seafood hut on Brixham harbour. Plenty of dark and light meat. Well worth a pause if you’re passing.

Staff very friendly and helpful! Scones cooked to perfection ! If I'm in the area i will most certainly be returning ! Also great entertainment ;)

An impulse find. We had just got into Brixham from a walk along the Coastal Path from Torquay and found this restaurant. It's small and unassuming but we are fans of seafood and this didn't disappoint. Scallops with chorizo and lemon were excellent, as we're the tiger prawns and seafood linguini. Portions are decent size but boy, does the chef like garlic!Prompt and polite service.Reasonable price for seafood in my opinion, and all in all a very nice experience.

After waiting 3 years to finally catch this restaurant in season, was sadly disappointed. Got a crab sandwich to take away, at £7.50 I would have expected more than crab on a standard supermarket whole meal loaf. No salad with it, just a wedge of lemon. Was tasty enough but underwhelming. My Dad got a crab sandwich to takeaway from a cafe over the road for £2.00 less which came with equal quality Brixham crab, superior fresh bread and a beautifully presented side salad with lemon. Unfortunately won’t return.

We live in Newton Abbot so we usually get a crab sandwiches from the Crab Shack in Teignmouth. Although we have been visiting family in Brixham we thought it would be nice to have a crab sandwich to take home for lunch. The service was good the staff are lovely the whole area was clean and tidy but the crab sandwiches didn’t hit the mark! I know that you can have shell but I’ve never had shell from the Crab Shack, unfortunately i had four pieces of shell in mine today. On the whole the sandwiches were quite dry and boring, not what I expect from an award-winning eatery.

My husband and I visited Brixham on Saturday. The sun was shining and Claws looked very inviting for a light lunch. We ordered crab sandwiches and prawn sandwiches. These were very tasty but unfortunately there was so much shell left in both of them, they weren't enjoyable. I appreciate sometimes this is difficult to avoid with shell fish but I nearly cracked a tooth on my first bite. Shame because it is a lovely location with a wide choice of food to choose from. We may have just been unlucky.

Was really looking forward to trying out this restaurant. We simply love seafood and unfortunately the food was distinctly average. The bread used in the crab sandwich was very dry (old?) and the jam that came with the scone was poor quality.Could be the result of visiting during the low season because most of the reviews are very positive.

Noticed some poor food reviews lately but on balance chose this place for our holiday treat based on majority good reviews and what we had seen on the Quay in Brixham during our stay this week. Arrived at 2.20pm on Friday to find restaurant shut and no notice on door to explain why. Just wanted to make others aware that 9am-4pm opening hours not always adhered to. Very disappointed.

Every time I visit Brixham, I visit, Claws. Staff are helpful and friendly. It’s location is amazing. Just watch the seagulls. They’ll have you food!! I’d recommend the, crab sandwich.

What a terrible dissapointment! We came here today with friends and each couple chose the fish platter. The food arrived minus the clearly stated on the menu pickled onions which we were all looking forward to. When I queried this at the counter I was told this was because they had run out. Nothing was mentioned prior to this and meal already paid for at time of ordering so no comeback. Never mind so we went on to eat the platter which was tasteless and very watery. Again I complained about the poor quality of clearly frozen defrosted fish including squid cockles prawns squid etc only to be told they have to use frozen due to the sheer volume of covers they have and they wouldn’t be able to keep up? My advice - find somewhere else! Not cheap by any means, poor quality and no comeback. We will certainly not be coming back and feel quite aggrieved at paying out so much money for such poor food.

Stopped for a quick cup of coffee and some delicious seafood. Had the oysters, cockles and clams. All were lovely but the oysters were fantastic. The best bit was, we were outside, overlooking the harbor with the freshest seafood you could wish for accompanied by our dog.Took home a dressed crab - delicious!

You couldn't ask for a better location in Brixam, right on the Quay. The fish only have to move a few feet from the fish market to your plate. Dog friendly, excellent staff, superb seafood. Not to be missed

I would highly recommend visiting Claws for a delicious crab sandwich and glass of wine if you are lucky enough to be in Brixham. Lovely place to sit and watch everything going on around you in the busy harbour...loved it

Popped into this small little place whilst on a day trip to Brixham.The waitress was very polite and helpful. Slightly disappointed that one of our first choices wasnt available but what we did order was delightful. The prawn cocktail was full of prawns and the crap sandwich fresh. All washed down with a chilled bottle of Pinot Grigio.Would call again if in the areaand try the lobster.

Spotted this lovely little place whilst strolling on the harbour. Saw a table and grabbed it and that was the best decision of the day. Couldn't decide from the menu what to have, and when we did it was terrific. Fresh from the sea and delicious too. Prawn, Crab and Salmon Salad and my daughter had the Scallops. Lovely little place and though seafood costs that little more .... if it tastes this good - it's worth it!!!

Indoor version of Claws ! Called in here for lunch. I had a Prawn Cocktail, never had so many prawns in one dish ! My wife had Prawn & Avocado, Food and service was superb.

Wir haben hier spontan aufgrund von Bewertungen äußerst hervorragend gegessen. Die Jakobsmuscheln in einer cremigen Soße mit gebratenen Blutwurstwürfelchen (bloodpudding) und Salaten und Kartoffeln waren ein Gedicht!!! Die frischen Austern meines Mannes waren auch sehr appetitlich. Freundlicher Service, gemütlich zum sitzen und für die Größe des Lokals eine tolle Auswahl an Speisen. Jederzeit wieder. Für die frische des Fisch auch sehr faire Preise. Wäre wieder unsere erste Wahl!

We visit Brixham 2 or 3 times a year from Yorkshire and Claws on the harbour side is always our favourite place to go for lunch. Had prawn cocktails today and they were excellent and really fresh. Do not miss this gem. Always great to see the variety of dogs there.

Stopping off for a light bite of fresh Crab & Prawns and a bottle of beer to help pass the time away overlooking the harbour. What a great idea. No rush great staff and wonderful food. Give it a try.

Had lunch - Best fresh crab sandwich I have ever had. Also had scallops- very fresh - Only draw back was garlic sauce was overpowering. Cash only - Come Prepared. Lovely service.

Lovely choice of fresh seafood, freshly caught. The mussels were amazing. They also have a local restaurant too which is well worth a visit.

With friends we decided to visit Brixham to have a crab sandwich and we were not disappointed. We liked the look of Claws Indoors and decided to have a crab and prawn sandwich to share between the four os us with hot scallops with apple and black pudding, delicious and tiger prawns in garlic. The food was all freshly prepared and delicious, the best crab and prawn sandwiches we have ever had, The whole lunch meal was extremely tasty and was finished off with a ice cold bottle of white wine. Well worth the visit.

Now it is screened off from the traffic it is comfortable to sit here and watch the harbour. Great coffee and sea food. Snack or meal.

It's not much more than a seafood kiosk and a few tables and parasols, but what comes out for you to eat and drink, including alcohol, is a very nice surprise. And it's all served right on the Brixham harbourside, with its genuine fishing port atmosphere. Very much worth a try.

While walking around Brixham we decided to stop somewhere to check the map and grab a coffee. We were delighted with the warm welcome of the members of staff and speed of the service. Claws is a lovely little cafe that would be worth a trip again for lunch.

Poor customer service today in Claws Indoors, Brixham and having tried to sort it out with them, we were met with a negative and rude response. We ordered Avocado Scummy and as you see from the menu board it is advertised as £7.50 and we were charged £8.00 as per the receipt. Our meals were advertised outside and a price displayed, we based our choice on this. But, when we paid the bill we then realised we’d been over charged. When we politely pointed this out we were refused a refund because the price had gone up and the prices on the indoor menu are different to outside. I suggest that if business is so desperate for money that they need to con people into coming indoors, they can’t be doing very well. Maybe this is why they only take cash, which is also not pointed out to customers before they order. A terrible way to treat people. Maybe they should take a look at the 1967 Misrepresentation Act, as I think they’ll find what they are doing is illegal.

Amazing cream teas.. Scones are warm, jam is fresh and cream is lovely... Hidden among many other places serving cream teas, this was an amazing find!!!

Stumbled on this place couldn't see sign as sunshade covered signage he was shutting but stayed open as we were 8 handed We went back twice food is good friendly staff and 30% cheaper than other fish places we ate out we had too much food to list do look at photos!

We passed by this place almost every day and kept watching to see the dishes that came out. It was always busy. We went for lunch one day and had the seafood platter. It was amazing. Well worth the money with a large plate of seafood, a large plate of salad and a plate with bread, olives, pickles and dips. Delicious.

Popped in here and my wife had been waiting for her prawn cocktail, crab sticks and extra prawns with a glass of prosecco me a glass of wine and prawns for my daughter. Every holiday in Brixham this is an absolute must thank you

A wonderful light lunch fish restaurant. Set on the quayside of Brixham harbour. Excellent fresh fish, caring service . Highly recommend . Just have to watch the seagulls. But you have been warned!

Visted Claws Outdoors yet again this weekend, we ordered the Seafood Platter and two glasses of wine, which was bought to our table very promptly. The food is first class and served by very polite and cheery staff, ok, you may have to wait a while for a table, but this is a very popular place and well worth the wait. We will return again soon.

On a day trip from Dartmouth and had to make a pilgrimage to Claws outdoors. We ordered the fish platter and 2 glasses of sauvignon blanc. Platter was perfect, plenty of fish. We ordered extra bread and butter and when we left and tried to pay for the extras, lovely Claws said for us not to worry. Well worth the miles travelled and we look forward to visiting again.

Called in at Claws whilst on holiday in Devon & Cornwall, and very pleased that we did.Thoroughly enjoyed the avocado & prawns with a glass of presseco, whilst watching the world go by on the harbour side.Excellent value and will definitely visit again next time we are that way.Would suggest that it is made clearer that you order and pay at the shack before it is delivered to you
