We are regulars at the Marsh Harrier and enjoy popping in for a drink or two as the staff in there are great. The chef had only just started work for the evening so we decided to stay and have a meal, we ordered a plant based burger and chicken combo which we were looking forward to. When our meals arrived I saw that the skin on the chicken looked very crispy which I normally like but unfortunately the chicken was very over cooked to the extent that the chicken wing was totally unable to pulled apart. As I don't like to complain I told the waitress who came to take our plates about how bad the chicken was and showed her how over cooked it was. I wasn't expecting to have a refund or to make a fuss although I think I was within my rights to do so but the only response was a quip of 'oh sorry bout that' and took our plates away, end of story. Needless to say that it is with a heavy heart that we will no longer be calling in for a drink in the near future.

Although the food we ordered was nice it's the state of the toilets that let's this place down. Yesterday at 12.15 the gents were filthy with urine on the floor and no toilet paper ar all. My husband asked fir all thus to be sorted but it wasn't while we were there. Ladies toilets weren't much better. Bith need a good clean. Unfortunately every time we have been the toilets are very nice.

It was for a 93rd Birthday Lunch, we have visited this pub a number of times recently. There is generally a deal for the food, certainly on this visit we definitely had value for money, and we each greatly enjoyed our meals - the steak pie was excellent and there were empty plates always a good sign. The manager Andy and chef Sean looked after us well and even produced some cake with a candle on top.

We recently had an evening meal at the Marsh Harrier. It was mid week so not too busy. We really enjoyed the food and thought it very good value for money. The service was excellent. Our food was bought to us by a very pleasant lady named Deana, who went the extra mile, with the attention she provided. Thanks again.

Food was served less than 10 minutes after ordering. Microwaved, anemic-looking pizza and ciabatta. Thankfully, the chips were edible. The ladies toilets smelt of 'cigarettes' and the porch was full of smoke as we left. It's a far cry from the proper pub grub that the Shrimper served!

We last went to the Marsh harrier in March and left as they had no meat or chicken, only fish and chips and sausage and mash. 5 months later we went today,17 August, phoned first to confirm they were serving food, got thee to find, gues what? No meat or chicken, wife ordered crab cakes and sausage & mash, we asked for a plain burger for our dog( only positive thing I have to say about this establishment is they allow dogs in) the crab cakes came on there own with no garnish, three small cakes, £7.99. Plane burger for the dog..... came with chips and a tomato sauce....£7.99. I myself elected to eat in a much higher quality establishment, mc Donald's. Oh did I mention the tables were minging? As they were last time we went.....

We decided late to book here for that evening and were told only time they could fit us in was 7pm because they were doing an extended eat out to help out during September and so we thought would give it a try as we havent been for probably 2 yrs now because the last time we went it wasnt great. The covid measures were good, plenty of hand sanitizer and for the lounge bar, you entered through the front but exit through the back and there is a hand sanitizer even in the back porch as you leave. We arrived and were told our table wasnt quite ready and if we wanted to order a drink and wait in front bar and they would come and get us. We waited probably not quite 10 mins before they arrived. We were shown to our table and given paper menus. We were told that you just ordered and paid at the end of the bar (please note that this was before the extra restrictions came in about table service and about having to wear masks upon entering a pub/restaurant etc). We ordered our food and waited, we noticed a group on a table next to us were waiting and after about 20 mins they got their starters but they had been there sitting down at their table waiting when we were shown to our table. We thought think it gonna be a bit of a wait for food by looks of it. We got our food after about 45 mins wait. We did feel this was a long time to wait and frankly dont like being in an enclosed space with other people longer than we have to. We appreciated that it was busy because it was the extended eat out to help out and we had booked late but there was a table available for us so it wasnt as if they had queezed us into an extra table. The tables may I say were well spaced out and our cutlery was brought to us after ordering as was packets of condiments, just a selection of everything for you to use, brought in a individual container and tipped onto your table so no touching of the sachets by the waitress. We thought all this was very good and the food was good pub food and not expensive. So we have said that we will try again to see if when the eat out to help out thing has finished in October that it may make the food a little quicker to arrive.

Not a bad pub. Good menu at decent prices for pub grub. Service with a smile. A bit too noisy in the lounge for eating when there is football on TV which, when you are with company a little disturbing. It's a pity they couldn't partition off the bar section to create 2 separate bars to make the lounge quieter. Private function on Saturday in the lounge which, being the only pub in the area stops the locals going for a quiet drink, which doesn't seem very fair.

As the Shrimper was under new management we decided to have a pre-Xmas meal there. We enjoyed it so we booked our Xmas Day meal there and enjoyed it. We could not fault it. We went again this year and what a difference. Two of us had the roast dinner and because there was so small amounts of potatoes we could have eaten two dinners each. I asked for a small dinner and got 3 pieces of roast potato and my friend who had normal size roast dinner had 4 pieces of roast potato. We both had a small amount of mashed potato. We had plenty of meat so why skimp on the potato? We had sponge puddings to fill us up but there was hardly any custard in a small jug each. We asked for more and was pointedly told we had two helpings of custard each. I presume we were charged twice. To skimp on potatoes and custard, probably the two cheapest items, doesn't make sense to us. We haven't been since.

I decided to go and see the new refurb and go for dinner one night. Soon realised you had to be a regular to get noticed but gave benefit of the doubt and go ahead with picking what we wanted! Went to order and one guy smelt like an ashtray, and the girl was too busy flicking her hair whilst flirting (that's a very mild way to put it) once again, benefit of the doubt, ordered food, then the ashtray took the ticket off her and I watched him proceed into the kitchen and start our meals without washing his hands!! I mentioned I'd prefer him to wash to which I got the response "food is cooked long enough to kill any bacteria that were on hands so it is not necessary or a hygiene issue!" I couldn't rate the food as we left! I'd hate to think the state of the kitchen if they argue personal hygiene!! I have been many many places with younger staff working (the shrimper last year was one) and never had a problem with lack of manners or basic respect! But maybe they need a senior member with them to guide them? And keep their love lives/stories to after work hours? I did try to communicate with owners before writing a review as I believe everyone is entitled to an off day, but whenever I called on several occasions "he's not in try again tomorrow"

Pretty extensive, varied menu covering most tastes.....ended up with Bangers and Mash for me and Cannelloni for my better half (. :)). Both well acceptable versions.... not restaurant standard (but not their prices either). I'd come again. And , to repeat myself, very pleasant staff. Probably deserves between 4 and 5 but I feel it's current rating deserves a lift so I'm going for 5, decision capped by my looking out from the cosy table at a somewhat disappointing blustery, chilly Easter Sunday!

The Shrimper Southport has had a lot of money spent on it over the last couple of months and I have to say it's a big improvement however unfortunately it doesn't change my Tripadvisor rating.Went last night as a group of 3 adults and 2 children. We were keen to see the improvements and were pleasantly surprised. The toilets are 100 times better now and the whole place looks a lot more modern. We went to eat but was told that unfortunately the chef hadn't turned up and there was a 20 minute wait. We didn't mind and got a drink while we waited. We order food (fish and chips, steak, new yorker, chicken nuggets and pasta). Sadly the food tasted exactly the same as previously which is no bad thing as it was consistent for the price however I was expecting perhaps something a little more exciting.Overall big improvents to the interior and exterior but little seems to have changed with the food except a new menu.

I had the hunters chicken and husband had chicken and blackpudding and both were delicious. Staff friendly and menu was varied so plenty to choose from. We will return without a doubt.

I live locally to the Shrimper and visit at least once a month for lunch.Sunday roast is to be recommended due to its taste, size and value for money, combined with prompt friendly service. It also seems a regular haunt for elderly citizens who enjoy the quiet relaxed atmosphere.

Monday to Friday three courses lunch time special for £5.25...Used to be cheaper but the portions were really small, whereas now the main was a good plateful.. and a lot more choice than before. Excellent value..... but yes it's an estate pub, the beer is a bit hit and miss, and the tables are still sticky... but the place was almost full when we there, only three tables left.

I ordered a steak, it came and there was more fat than meat. Then I asked if I could change it for a burger, and they wouldn't change it without a big fuss.

My friend who was returning to Canada treated me to lunch here. At £4.95 for three courses it seemed to good to be true. Not so! Everything we had was delicious. The main courses were piping hot and very tast. Lovely staff were attentive and pleasant. Can't recommend it highly enough.

fish isn't worth the large price tag , most of it ends up stuck to the crap paper they wrap round it . Fish cake is very stodgy and not very fishy .Chips are average . In all a bit if a let down ,

Been to the Shrimper on and off for years, always been a nice pub with good wholesome food, visited again with family last night and it was noticeable that standards of cleanliness and general appearance of the place have dropped at a fast rate, menus are old tatty and sticky, the place mats were sticking to the table, the table was propped level by beer mats, food was just OK nothing special, as for value a portion of onion rings x7 about 3 inches £2.95 ????? Dont know whats going on Shrimper but lets get back to the old ways.

We have been to the Shrimper on several occasions and have found it to be fine. Ok, so the quality seems to vary from week to week. The veg is probably frozen and the salad is very basic. The portions however are large, the staff on the whole friendly and the decor is OK.The men's toilet is disgusting though and I'm sure it turns people of going. So, if you are looking for a local pub to go to for a cheap meal then you won't go wrong but avoid using the loos unless you are so drunk you don't care

We are never disappointed when we have visited the Shrimper whether it be lunch time or evening. Whilst the decor may look a little tired, don't let that put you off as the food is very good value for money.

In the past we have had some great family meals at The Shrimper. We visit this pub when in Southport as we firmly believe in small businesses And they should always be supported.Today sadly we had an atrocious meal of fish and chips and peas, which looked great - upon commencing the meal it was noticeable that there was a strange atmosphere at table, nothing initially said just people picking and pushing food around their plates.Eventually the silence was broken and the fish was discussed. One really cannot spoil fish and chips and mushy peas, however today's meal was the exception to the rule - the fish was quite terrible, quite inedible and mostly left on the plate. It was tasteless, bland, opaque and pretty awful - thought to be Vietnamese Basa ( river cobbler ).We will say nothing to the landlord, but request they either take this fish off the menu, and replace with the usual cod or similar as they do their reputation little good.We will return hopefully and pray our suggestion has been headed.

Been for lunch on a few occasion and have never been disappointed. The chef is heavy handed with some protions which I don't mind at all and shows they don't penny pinch like some. Lovely little pub, it may be near a supermarket and car show room but who cares when your feeding the belly babies. At least its stumbling distance from front door which is a bonus.

Food was ample, well cooked and reasonably priced. We have never had a bad meal at the Shrimper. The only drawback is we cannot get our male companions to go with us as they say the gent's toilet is disgusting and they won't use it. It is such a shame as the Shrimper is local and we cannot fault anything else about it.

Once again, the staff of Clouds did us proud. We (Southport Friendship group and Crosby Writers) took a combined party of 47 to our Christmas lunch, and along with other groups, they managed around 70. Food was well served and piping hot, and nothing was too much trouble for those serving. If your son or daughter was working there today, you should be very proud of them. The same goes for Paula, and those working in the back. Thank you all for making our day, special.

Our regular go to chippy. We drive past others to go here. Haddock and chips are regularly ordered Their curries are good as well Fish cakes, mushy peas, all are good We haven’t tried their kebabs We have tried some of their Chinese on occasions We have always enjoyed whatever we have ordered We will continue to drive past the competition as they simply do not compare.

Was getting hungry in Southport so went into Waterfield's for a snack. Tried the Lancashire pasty which was ok. Pastry was a bit thick and soft and filling was a bit salty. A bit pricey at close to £2!
