The Grapes in Thornton in Sefton

50 minute wait. Cold chips, overcooked steak. Disaster.

I visited here on Tuesday 18 th October. I havnt been here before and wont go back. The manager was so rude about a customer who had returned their food as it was unsuitable to eat. The manager first swore really loud in the kitchen because they didn’t have somthing . Then we heard him Shout to the chef , don’t say sorry about that plate of food as I would rather loose the customer . We then noticed the customer speak to the manager and staff like she had being going there for ages . He then made another remark when they left. His behaviour was disgraceful and so unprofessional. I would never return to this place

The food was ok , the issue is the waiting time, 45 minutes and the place wasn't packed, I've waited longer before that in the Grapes, they need more staff, and then they forgot we had ordered 2 deserts , won't be going back, is this down to the Manager,? it's not the staffs fault,

enjoyed quiz night at the grapes and our dinner. skillets are very cool, veg is really tasty. i had the cluckin burger, cooked perfectly. quiz was a laugh will be back.

We have tried to book in 5 tines and on every occasion there's been a problem either there's a delivery or there's a problem in the kitchen, no staff or the chefs late.. poor way to run a business. We travel to.get here too

Fantastic food, depth of flavor profile was immaculate and presentation was nothing short of what you expect from a top end chain, excellent customer service and feel to the place.

We wanted to try somewhere new that was also reasonably priced for our tea we decided on the graces and we were very pleased our food was delicious and the portions were great there’s a lovely atmosphere inside

we have been to sizzling pubs in the past so we have an idea what to expect. on the day of our booking we had a phone call to say that one of the ovens had broken so some items would not be available and that they were short staffed. but we still opted to go as were where a large group and it was a Saturday night we are so glad we did yes there was a bit of a wait but all the meals where very good we had a selection of meals including the gyros, burger, gammon steak ,fish, sausages and curry all the meals were cooked to a very high standard we then had some pudding including the chocolate brownie good portions and again very good special mention to Lynn our waitress who was very helpful

Friendly pub with decent food reasonably priced, speedy service, menu choice is good and music was great compared to some places.

Beer garden needs major attention. Very scruffy and neglected. Disappointing.

Should have known not to order a sirloin steak but did - asked how I wanted it - stated ‘medium rare’ Took nearly forty minutes to come, it was so well done that the cow has been cooked for it’s next three afterlives. Tough as boots. Friend had fish n chips and was ok, so stick to pub grub familiarity if you order food.

Absolutely brilliant meal for price spot on

Called in with a friend after playing a round of golf. We both had the fish and chips with mussy peas off the value menu. The food was excellent, good portions and the fish were huge. For £11.75 for 2 meals, you can't go wrong . Well worth a visit, highly recommended .

Had the unfortunate experience of trying to eat here on Friday, our food arrived a starter of chicken wings were overcooked and burned, along with our starter our main arrived, my partner ordered a medium steak, what she actually got was an overcooked lump of grissle, my main was wrong, I don't place any blame on the waitress who was very helpful, we still hadn't ate our starter when my main arrived a Gyros platter, basically what I got was a burned platter of chips and various chillies, my partners replacement steak returned but was exactly the same overcooked lump of grissle, we decided at this point to leave, the worst food I have ever had, I shall not be going back, I'd suggest everyone give this place a very wide berth.

I visited at the weekend for my Mothers birthday. The lady who served us was very nice but that was about it. The toilets were awful, needed cleaning. The food was not very good at all. Salmon was over cooked and too much seasoning, so you did not taste fish only the spice. My Mother had Hunters chicken, she left most of it. Total disappointment as it was my Mother's birthday and also she had been in hospital and this was her first time out. Such a disappointment!!

Visited for some food. Richard and the team looked after us well and the whole experience was wonderful.

So we booked the grapes for a funeral. They were brilliant just can not thank them enough for all they did for us. The process was easy and they looked after us all day and evening. The food was fab and plenty of it. They kept the tea and coffee coming all day. The team were great thank you for making a hard day that bit easier.we had the bronze buffet and added a few bits to it.

Had food with my family here, the male manager was more concerned running around the bar than listening to I and my wife telling him our food was cold. Used to be a great pub until this guy came in. Crap, worrying how down hill this place has gone. Being threatened by the owner after sharing my experience just sums up exactly what I thought. Looking forward to being reported to Google. Horrible from top to bottom.

Walked in having previously tried to book days before, Told minimal food 1 hour wait.and despite being six of us told we could only be served in groups of three.!!!??? Made to feel unwelcome and like it was my fault we checked in. Unfortunately had ordered drinks, so had to stay and finish. Went to Nags Head and totally different approach. Understand now what's wrong with the hospitality sector and the grapes personifies perfectly.

Extremely disappointed in this visit When we arrived, it wasn't busy and as I was by grab machine with kids near bar, I could see no one had ordered in a while I ordered and went to our table to wait. Cue nearly an hour later and still no sign. 2 kids all day breakfasts& a loaded rare steak with sweet potato fries Spoke to whom I presume was bar manager who after 2 minutes came back and said it was just getting plated up. 10/15 minutes later, it arrived. The kids looked nothing like breakfast & not sure what happened with toast Mine? Onion rings were soft, rare steak was tough and I left half, sweet potato fries were lukewarm and soft so didn't touch Very disappointed

There was only one person serving behind the bar and one person serving food. The bar was completely littered with empty glasses. We have visited the grapes a few times in the last few months, we like the atmosphere and the food is really good. We asked why there was a lack of staff and the answer was that the brewery would not give enough hours to potential future staff to make it worthwhile to work at the Grapes. We watched people leave when they noticed that there were upto six people waiting to be served and there was a one and a half hour wait for food. We find this disgraceful. MITCHELLS AND BUTLERS need to address the way the run this pub/restaurant before they lose all thier customers to another pub/restaurant three hundred yards away (The Nags Head) The manager worked really hard to keep the customers happy but we felt the pressure on him and the only person serving food was too much.

I attended The Grapes in Thornton with my family. I havent been for a while but I was glad that I came back. As soon as I came in I was given a warm welcome. Throughout our visit I noticed that the music that was being played was brilliant. The food and drink were excellent. Plenty of choice and well worth the money. We will definitely be back

A generic chain pub, lacking real ale (Doom Bar only, plus lager, John Smiths, gin, cocktails, etc) and offering typical fare, including jerk chicken skewers, various nacho flavours, fish and chips, mixed grill. Experience was elevated by a friendly server, Jacqui, who arranged a bowl of chips while waiting, even though they were short staffed. Free parking and easy access.

brought our grandchildren here for there lunch at the weekend before going to the Christmas markets with them. they love there ice creams and the kids coloring competition, very friendly staff and lovely atmosphere for people with children, food is always nice and staff are always friendly

Enjoyable pub, food is great value for the price, we had a mega mixed grill and the jerk skewers, waited 40 mins, but pub was busy so no problem. never came here before but it was recommended by a friend, will definitely be back !!

Last time wait was 1hr 10 mins. This time was told an hour but meal came in 20 mins. Much improved.

Meal for 12 booked, kitchen very busy so delay on food but staff continually communicated with the party. Excellent service, lovely meal & very reasonable prices. Really pleased with all aspects. Will defo come again

This pub is lovely ! No where like it in the area, atmosphere is fun and friendly, very relaxed. Staff are very kind and always a laugh. We came for a meal as a family, and often visit. Food brill and great value, we will be back soon !

Few of us went for evening meal, atmosphere was lovely ended up staying for quiz, lovely food lovely night .

Was told meal would have 1 hour waiting time. Got drinks, paid then sat at table. After 10 mins I thought I'd better get dessert ordered too. Asked manager for bano toffee cheesecake and I'd pay now and have it now to eat after dinner. He said no need, just order it after meal. I said I'll pay now and you can hold it for me. He said no need get it after meal. Food came after 1 hour 10 mins. It was nice. After I'd finished went up to order the cheesecake. Guess what ? Sold out. I was quite annoyed by this. Perhaps the manager wanted the last piece fir himself ?

Went as a family a special occasion. got to say not impressed. On ordering Only one Lasagne left on menu after looking forward to this so had to order another meal. Long wait, CLUCKIN' HOT STACK top burger bun was burned black tasted of it too and batter on the chicken was dark not golden. Chips were only warm as plates were cold. Never asked how our meal was at the end. Therefore Will not be returning.

The Grapes has always been our go to pub the staff have always gone above and beyond. There is a young lady that serves food but not behind the bar that is excellent at her job always smiles and says hello. The food is well priced and there is a good selection.

Went in with my Mum today was served by Catherine who was brilliant food was just as good too, thanks a lot will deffo come back

Wait times- it wasn't busy for a tea time and there was an approximate wait of up to 1hr 30mins at 5:45pm. We booked a table and we ended up going elsewhere due to having 2 diabetics and a toddler with us. The new layout was nice and atmosphere was good.

Amazing customer services food was lovely everything all clean and amazing atmosphere within the pub would recommend to friends and family especially family’s they where so good with little children giving us colouring pictures to fill in throught the stay to keep them entertained while waiting for food .

Went here for a family celebration. We spent a lot of money on food and drink celebrating but it really was awful. Food was terrible, drinks tasted like they were watered down and the staff/manager were unfriendly. Had no atmosphere. Will not be going again.

Nice pub, good drinks. Shocking effort from the manager. On the bar with just one staff member who was ran off her feet and the manager just stood at the end of the bar, turned away when you looked at him hoping to get served....

We had variety of starters and mains-really enjoyed. Peter looked after us all evening, more than helpfiul. We had a great night!

Food was slightly cold Hunters chicken.. bacon was burnt and disappointed with a cold cheese slice threw on top never had hunters chicken before with a cheese slice wasn't even melted Also wanted to order a steak to be told they had no steak left which was unusual as it was only 5.30pm Also ordered chicken strips as a starter they had none left so they gave me chicken wings that were also burnt
