This place was a pleasant surprise to me hadn't come across this pub before and stumbled on it by accident and really enjoyed it.

Enjoyed a tasty Sirloin steak, followed by a chocolate torte... With a nice pint of Timothy Taylor's. Very good value, excellent service. Must be getting a bit old for the pub scene, with the background noise/music! Dog friendly too.

Love this pub! Great food and service! Great location and so much space for lots of friends to join! Lots on tap too.

Unfortunately I am so sorry to say the food was disappointing , hopefully it will be back to its normal standard next visit … also nacho’s really not good 👍

Try the specials, quite a stand out for food considering it’s a chain pub. Had a great piece of chicken, kids menu is really good too!! Great for a family evening meal.

Absolutely delicious food, the best we've had in a while. Staff was very kind and considerate. We paid about £25 per person, including a starter, main, desert and drink each, so the pricing is very good. The atmosphere was very delightful and the decorations were beautiful! I personally recommend the Hash Duck and the pear frangipane, both which were delicious!

Nice friendly pub.Had a dog friendly area which was pleasing for us.. Food was plentiful .we selected the popular fish and chips..very enjoyable.

Played golf at Formby GC and went to pub after around 6pm watched Euros. 2 weeks later received a fine of £100 for parking in their car park. Unauthorised Parking?

Visited The Freshfield today for dinner with a friend, absolutely lovely place, can't actually believe it's part of Greene King, didn't have that 'chain pub' feel to it, food was excellent, staff attentive and friendly. 100% will be going again, have already recommended it to friends and family.

Only visited for the real ale selection which amazed me a few years ago. So disappointed to see such a reduced selection and what there was were bland Marstons own which cut no ice. So immediately turned tail and looked towards the proper real ale pubs of Liverpool. What’s happened to this pub ? It’s a travesty.

Just back from a walk in the woods with a dog we’re looking after. Enjoyed a refreshing half of Aspalls, not many pubs sell it round here. My husband had a pint of Carslberg, the cheapest lager. We also bought a packet of crisps and were asked if we wanted a doggy treat. There was no indication that there’d be a charge. The bill came to £9.80 which we thought a little steep. On enquiry I was told the small dish of sausages had cost a pound. Seemed a lot for one sausage which could well have been left over and needed using up. I was surprised as a lot of pubs these days don’t charge for dogs’ treats.

Nice place, doesn't feel like a chain pub. Friendly service and welcoming staff. Good food choices and reasonably priced considering the location. Great beer choices too, a nice place to enjoy a couple after a good walk on the beach.

Good food. The duck hash in particular was really good. Chicken Kyiv too. The chocolate caramel tarte for dessert was yum. Has its own beer on tap. Cozy pub just a short stroll from the train station.

Found this pub on the off chance after visiting Formby Point. It was a rare lovely day so sat outside with the dogs, water is provided. There is a great selection of beers and a good varied menu. Being Sunday we had the roast. It was worth it, the food was delicious. Service was good, attentive and cheerful. Will definitely visit again and will recommend to others.

Visited after a recommendation. Ordered beef and ale pie and chicken Kiev. Pie pastry was very hard and cabbage was uncooked. Kiev was good. Food service was good and fast. Bar service was poor having ordered a drink at the bar and after paying was told my drink was waiting for me at the end of the bar. I have worked in bar industry for many years and would expect the bar staff to provide a better service especially in an establishment that prides themselves on customer service. When the bar staff was confronted they made no apology and dismissed their behaviour. The management did not acknowledge this either. Sadly I will not be visiting this establishment again.

I was out on my weekly 25 mile bike ride when I arrived at the pub very thirsty. Kate poured me a fabulous cask pint She was friendly efficient and an asset to the pub. Thank you Kate.

Have visited on a number of occasions when walking from southport to formby. Always very welcoming and a great selection of beers and ale. Had food but only light bites stuff and I thought little expensive for what you get.

Visited the Freshfield on the recommendation of family and friends. All in all, what a nice atmosphric place to relax, with an extreemly large selection of Beers, and a Very welcoming Staff. Sorry but I have to say that the food is letting the Freshfield down, we were a party of four, and only one of us actually ate their meal. First of all, when ordering Fish and Chips we were informed it was off the menu, (very suprising considering it was a Friday, and traditionaly a Fish and Chip Day). The Chicken Kiev was nothing like a Chicken Kiev, it was two thinly slices of chicken covered in breadcrumbs with a weak garlic butter topping, it was so overcooked and 'rock' hard and as dry as a desert. The same dissapointment with the Burger, that was so over cooked tastless and poorly presented. The Fish cakes were NO better, tasteless and again overcooked. The Food is a Big let down for such a nice Pub situated in a Fantasic Area. You have so much to offer, and deliver on the Social side BUT PLEASE.........try to improve your menu and offer the same Fantastic service, value and Care that you put into your Bar. it looks like the food side comes second to the bar and beers on offer. Sorry for bad review but felt so let down.

Just had a lovely meal with friends to celebrate my birthday. Should have been fish and chips but ended up getting whale & chips. An enormous portion but really good. special thanks toJosh really looked after us and sang happy birthday so beautifully:-)

Not as good as the last time we were there

We arrived at around 2pm Sunday 18th, we hadn’t booked but the team were able to find a table for us. The menu was great with lots of different options, we had the halloumi & salt and pepper squid to start, both were delicious and came out in good time. For mains we had steak ciabatta, chicken & bacon ciabatta with a side of fries, once again the food was brilliant. The bar service was friendly and drinks were nice. Thank you to the team, especially Kim who really looked after us, we will definitely be returning soon!

Busy pub in the middle of a housing estate. On a Saturday afternoon it was full of people shouting at tv screens watching football and rugby. Good selection of beers and good service from the bar staff. Only there for a drink after a walk. Didn't see any food being served so don't know if they do food or not. Tall tables and high stool seating isn't for me but must appeal to some because the pub had plenty.

Had fantastic service from Josh & Kim for our family birthday meal out - despite short notice and late hour. Thanks guys!

Lovely pub, spotlessly clean, with welcoming staff. Great selection of beers 10 lagers/ciders and 8 different real ales. Can't comment on food as we only called in for a beer, but by a clear country mile the best pub in the area.

Big group of us (16 people) visited the Freshfield for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. Food was excellent and the service was superb - we were looked after extremely well. Will definitely visit again.

I went to the Freshfield Pub for Christmas Dinner with my family. The festive ambiance, attentive staff, and delicious menu made it the perfect way to celebrate the holidays. I had the fish with tigers shrimp, potatoes and vege -- it was delicious! Highly recommend for a festive and delicious celebration!

Came in for lunch with my family, set a tab up, ordered drinks. Then when we came to the bar to order food we were told they weren't serving food for an hour or so until a buffet csme out. During this time the manageress sat down to eat. Other food came out to other guests in this time. Very disappointed with our children starving after a country walk.

A little expensive for what you get but good range of beers on tap and easy to communicate to the staff about food allergies.

Food was incredible. Hospitality was horrific, staff members were incredibly rude and many drunk people making guests uncomfortable.

Came here for Sunday roast and despite only chicken available the food was comforting. Fluffy enjoyed many admiring paws! My mate John was showing me around the Freshie and many rooms to keep everyone happy.

Visiting our friends in Formby we decided to pay a visit to the Fresh fields. First the good news...there was a great selection of beers and this was accompanied by friendly service. However three of us had the Freshfield Burger( obviously a house speciality)and I can happily report that the burger topping of crispy pork was excellent as was the moist bun and very acceptable chips . Unfortunately all our burgers were. dry and singed to the extent that one wonders if King Alfred had taken over the pub kitchen. Puddings, by the way, were decent.

I booked this restaurant for 4pm for Sunday lunch as been before at it was very nice. On this occasion when we arrived they told us it was busy so they were running late. They also said that they had run out of roast beef..so we had to have roast chicken. We waited an hour before we were eventually served. Sadly it was not worth the wait ..all the vegetables were undercooked and stone cold and there was barely any chicken on the bones. What was there was dry too. Sadly we wont be returning for a while. On the plus side the staff were very nice.

We hosted a big family (almost 50 of us) event for our Mum's Celebrate of Life this past weekend. Kate was fantastic with all the arrangements. The venue was perfect as we had the back section and courtyard to ourselves - so loads of room especially for the kids. The buffet and staff were great. Definitely recommend and will be going back soon. Thanks Freshfield's pub!

My Husband & visited a few times during the heatwave, sampling the steak baguette/chicken & bacon sandwich/fishcakes & Korean chicken burger; all of them we highly recommend . Then on a family visit we sampled/recommended the prawns & chorizo/chicken wings/seafood risotto/Korean burgers & a child’s chicken nuggets & chips; all were scrumptious and served by the ever-cheerful, pleasant efficient Kim, Kate and The Freshie Team

Lunch time visit for myself husband toddler and two of our relatives. Food was spot on and delicious. Traditional friendly pub with lots of choice for everyone in the menu.

Some of the best real ale in the Formby area. Craft beer is still not really catered for but for some strange reason Greene King have never really taken it seriously so I won’t be holding my breath. Decent enough food and a nice beer garden in the summer

Came here tonight sat outside as it was VERY warm. Great choice of beers. We had 2 pints of the white rat beer which was very nice. Pleasant staff. Himself ordered the burger which he said was very nice. Tasty hot cheese burger with nice skinny fries..he nalso ordered side of Mac n Cheese He was satisfied with his meal. He ate ALL his. I ordered Fish n Chips crushed peas beer batter with triple cooked chips. The ‘crushed ‘peas were just over cooked shrivelled frozen peas.. The ‘triple cooked chips ‘ were just massive chips. The ‘beer battered ‘ fish was more batter than fish ! Very little actual fish in there…overcooked and way too crispy. I didn’t eat my meal… The waitress when taking the plates asked if everything was ok and I said’ No it wasn’t’ there wasn’t much fish and it was all batter.. I gave the waitress my opinion about this food. She said that she would tell the chef of this complaint.. I was very disappointed and annoyed .. nearly £ 15 for Fish n Chips. Poor quality overcooked and not a great plate of food. There was actually very little fish distinguishable under the massive pile of ‘ beer batter’ Never eaten here before. Should have gone Wetherspoons for half the price and much better quality . Will not be returning.

Two of us had steak and it was perfectly cooked and excellent value. The other meal was Chicken Kyiv, this too was delicious and good value. Staff were pleasant and helpful and the atmosphere was lively. No complaints.

We haven’t been here for a few months so was unsure how much it may have changed. On our last visit it was fantastic and we really enjoyed our lunch. Well, I can tell you, absolutely nothing has changed! The manageress Jackie remembered us as if we had only been in last week, she and the other staff were so welcoming. While we waited at the bar to be served, Jackie informed us that we had just been preceded by about 40 guests that they weren’t expecting so she invited us to take a seat at our normal table (goodness knows how she remembers these things!) and she would be along to take our order for drinks and food if we were having any. Totally amazing really because within 15 minutes Jackie had been to take our order and we had our drinks served to the table. The young Chef bought out our lunch, Nachos, Home Fries and onion rings within 30 minutes…absolutely delicious as always, all the food was hot and tasty and we cleared the lot. Thank you team Freshfield for your dedication and for making us feel welcome. NB: I have to add that this amazing service was carried out even while trouble lurked with a broken dishwasher..just what you need on a Bank Holiday weekend and the staff were having to wash up by hand too.

We enjoyed a lovely Sunday lunch here last weekend. The food was delicious and our waitress Katie really looked after us. Would definitely recommend.

Seems like a great pub if you want a beer (which was delicious) but everything we had to eat was really poor. We sat down in the restaurant just as the football kicked off, the TV was insanely loud and they couldn’t / wouldn’t turn it down. There’s no table service (not a big problem) so you have to order drinks and pay as you go for each round. I felt sorry for the staff who were trying their best but maybe there’s not enough of them as they seemed stressed. Poor food, stressed staff, loud TV is my summary. Personally I’d pay the extra few £ and go to the SparrowHawk for Sunday lunch as it’s amazing in comparison. Sorry Freshfield, I’ve had good meals in your pub in the past what’s happened?

Enjoyed a family meal on Saturday night 7 of us . Pub was busy but the service was fantastic. We were served by 3 different people ( at the table / bar / ordering food) all very polite and friendly. Mains were fine, puddings delicious.

We always find a greenking restraunt whenever possible so on this short stay on tuesday 8th August 2023 in southport we reviewed FRESHFIELDS near our campsite WELL I don't mind saying this must be the best GREENKING in the whole country absolutely beautiful car paking...

Pretty standard country pub, the food was nice, the onion rings were quite greasy. Service was a bit unusual as they wouldn't bring food out to the outside tables unless they were right outside the front door. Once we moved the service wasn't too bad, though we ordered another round of drinks which took nearly 20 minutes.

The food was nice once it arrived hot! Out of the 9 meals we ordered 4 were cold. The staff were really good and apologetic they swopped the meals right out for something else. Just a shame people couldn't eat together but I believe the staff did everything they could to rectify the issue. Just think it would put me off returning as this was my first ever visit and wouldn't want the hastle again.

Food wise, Sunday, so went all out on the Roast, full of flavor, did not disappoint at all, aged beef, roast potatoes, carrot's, cauliflower, yorkshire pudding and a gravy full of taste, excellent. Desert, Apple Pie with custard, perfect, overall, just a lovely meal in great surroundings, would 100% visit again.

Food was tasty, full of flavour. Regarding the pub, the wife has issues with spiders (like most people) and from where we was sitting there is a massive web in one of the windows. I didn't tell this to the wife at the time but a thin legged spider did drop down behind her while we were eating. I left it as if I had made a move, the wife would have wanted to move elsewhere. :)
