Love the Freshfield, it's such a friendly pub, staff are amazing and there are so many cute dogs! Currently decorated with Christmas trees, it just perfect!

Our friends joined my husband & I for our highly recommended Fish Friday treat; they were not disappointed. Staff, Food, Drinks & ambience all met their high expectations

Thank you to Kate and the whole team for yesterday. You made approximately 60 people so very welcome and everyone complimented the food. Highly recommend without hesitation. Consistently very good, quick, hot, and tasty food with friendly service. Love that the dogs are welcome. Really good feel to the place, great food, warm, sport on but not intrusive, a trip to the beach is always followed by lunch here!

Best pub in North West provides the Best Festive Feast Burger. Had it with the chunky chips. Delightfully presented and absolutely delicious. Give yourself a Christmas treat.

I was meeting friends for lunch. The pub was a great meeting place with plenty of large tables to accommodate us wherever we decided to sit. Everyone enjoyed their meals and the portion sizes were very generous. Unfortunately my chicken salad was covered in a red sauce which I thought was red pepper but it was more like a chipotle sauce and was far too hot to enjoy. In hindsight, I should have taken it back, but with so many of us chatting away, I thought I had misread the menu and it was my mistake. It wasn't until I couldn't eat any more, as my mouth was on fire, did I ask to look at the menu. I did mention to the staff when they were clearing the table about the hot sauce and they were extremely apologetic and said I should've brought it back. It was my fault as I would've been able to eat it if I had. If I go again, I'll check the sauce and make sure it's edible. Lovely staff though, I must add.

Great that there's a dog area. I sat there even without a dog. Much better company!

Was hoping for a welcome with our dogs yesterday but the set-aside dog area was full ...of people that didn't have dogs. That's at least £100 pounds-worth of business you lost. We went home to Macclesfield.

Great to be back. Food was superb and service from Josh was excellent. Highly recommended. Looking forward to the next time…

parking your car here can cost you 100 pounds so beware of the need to register your car on entry. needless to say won't be coming back again

Nice place for a drink after a walk

Been coming to the Freshfield for over 40 years .. they have a great selection of drinks and the tables are nicely spread out.

Visited by chance for lunch with the dog in tow. The staff are wonderfully friendly and helpful.

Burn top burnt roast dinner watery tasteless mush roast pudding dry and burnt on top truly one of the worst meals I've ever had. Spending over 100 pounds on slop.

Last Friday following a work team building event, I was looking for a pub nearby that could potentially accommodate 15 people at short notice not only drinks but food as well, despite the possibility of such a large number, The Freshfield pub came up trumps not only that they showed how things can be done in terms of customer service and more to the point hospitality. The manager Kate, and her staff Josh and Lilla, were superb. Nothing was too much trouble, the welcome and efficiency to which they served us was second to none, you would be happy if this was two of you, not fifteen. Cheers Kate, we will definitely be back, and anyone considering somewhere in the vicinity of Formby that shows how things should be done, the Freshfield pub would be hard to beat, highly recommended.

I met up with some very old friends for a reunion. The pub was recommended to me as a suitable venue and what a good choice it turned out to be. Really extensive range of excellent real ales (apparently to be extended soon), inexpensive good food and great service. But the star of the show for us was Kate, who went out of her way to make us feel welcome and looked after - thank you Kate!

Hey I’m not going to deny that I don’t like these kind of ‘fake’ pubs with their new decor made to look old BUT this place serves the best onion rings I’ve ever had and fantastic real chips, crisp on the outside and fluffy inside. The deal breaker is draught Aspall Cyder so it was worth the 3 hour trip by train to walk the dogs on the beautiful beach 🏖️

Food was fine and staff were nice. Cleanliness was a little below expectations and we were tormented by a group of flies in the front bar as we ate.

Really nice, wholesome, friendly pub with lovely staff and tasty food. Visited after a long day at Formby Beach with my friend, our 4 hungry and tired children (aged 3, 5, 5, 5), and one very tired Chihuahua. The food was quick to arrive and very reasonably priced. The children enjoyed their pasta while my friend and I both enjoyed their cheese and bacon topped burger. Will definitely be visiting again when we next come to Formby!

Been a couple of times now and have to be fair and say overall both experiences have been middle of the road. Tried a few different things on the menu, nothing jumps out, Steak pie isn’t great a very little in it Fish is all batter and little fish (not good batter) Kiev’s were always dry Steaks aren’t bad - but cheap cuts. It’s a typical kind of we don’t hire chefs just people who heat up the food with basic knowledge and serve it out. There’s many better places than here to eat, bearing in mind the location of the place, I can safely say this was the 3rd and final time of going. We live round here so we sometime for ease go here but I’d prefer to spend a few quid more and not do

Excellent experience for my Dad’s 82nd Birthday last night at The Freshfield! The food and atmosphere were fantastic and the service was second to none. Thank you so much to Kate and her team for helping make Dad’s night!

Called into The Freshfield with my husband, Mum and pooch. Mum was well impressed how dog friendly our sitting area was and how well behaved the dogs were. We ordered fish and chips, mushroom chilli and chicken Kiev. The food was beautifully presented, beautifully cooked and generously proportioned - representing brilliant value for money. Josh, who looked after us was lovely. Nothing was too much trouble - although to be fair, we didn't give him any as we were enjoying the ambience and homely feel of our surroundings. Mum had never visited before and she was seriously impressed with her experience. There is plenty of seating areas for diners who don't want to be near dogs so I can highly recommend this pub to everyone. I absolutely loved my mushroom chilli, so I will definitely be returning again!

This place was a pleasant surprise to me hadn't come across this pub before and stumbled on it by accident and really enjoyed it.

Enjoyed a tasty Sirloin steak, followed by a chocolate torte... With a nice pint of Timothy Taylor's. Very good value, excellent service. Must be getting a bit old for the pub scene, with the background noise/music! Dog friendly too.

Absolutely delicious food, the best we've had in a while. Staff was very kind and considerate. We paid about £25 per person, including a starter, main, desert and drink each, so the pricing is very good. The atmosphere was very delightful and the decorations were beautiful! I personally recommend the Hash Duck and the pear frangipane, both which were delicious!

Try the specials, quite a stand out for food considering it’s a chain pub. Had a great piece of chicken, kids menu is really good too!! Great for a family evening meal.

Played golf at Formby GC and went to pub after around 6pm watched Euros. 2 weeks later received a fine of £100 for parking in their car park. Unauthorised Parking?

Visited The Freshfield today for dinner with a friend, absolutely lovely place, can't actually believe it's part of Greene King, didn't have that 'chain pub' feel to it, food was excellent, staff attentive and friendly. 100% will be going again, have already recommended it to friends and family.

Only visited for the real ale selection which amazed me a few years ago. So disappointed to see such a reduced selection and what there was were bland Marstons own which cut no ice. So immediately turned tail and looked towards the proper real ale pubs of Liverpool. What’s happened to this pub ? It’s a travesty.

Just back from a walk in the woods with a dog we’re looking after. Enjoyed a refreshing half of Aspalls, not many pubs sell it round here. My husband had a pint of Carslberg, the cheapest lager. We also bought a packet of crisps and were asked if we wanted a doggy treat. There was no indication that there’d be a charge. The bill came to £9.80 which we thought a little steep. On enquiry I was told the small dish of sausages had cost a pound. Seemed a lot for one sausage which could well have been left over and needed using up. I was surprised as a lot of pubs these days don’t charge for dogs’ treats.

Nice place, doesn't feel like a chain pub. Friendly service and welcoming staff. Good food choices and reasonably priced considering the location. Great beer choices too, a nice place to enjoy a couple after a good walk on the beach.

Good food. The duck hash in particular was really good. Chicken Kyiv too. The chocolate caramel tarte for dessert was yum. Has its own beer on tap. Cozy pub just a short stroll from the train station.

Found this pub on the off chance after visiting Formby Point. It was a rare lovely day so sat outside with the dogs, water is provided. There is a great selection of beers and a good varied menu. Being Sunday we had the roast. It was worth it, the food was delicious. Service was good, attentive and cheerful. Will definitely visit again and will recommend to others.

Visited after a recommendation. Ordered beef and ale pie and chicken Kiev. Pie pastry was very hard and cabbage was uncooked. Kiev was good. Food service was good and fast. Bar service was poor having ordered a drink at the bar and after paying was told my drink was waiting for me at the end of the bar. I have worked in bar industry for many years and would expect the bar staff to provide a better service especially in an establishment that prides themselves on customer service. When the bar staff was confronted they made no apology and dismissed their behaviour. The management did not acknowledge this either. Sadly I will not be visiting this establishment again.

I was out on my weekly 25 mile bike ride when I arrived at the pub very thirsty. Kate poured me a fabulous cask pint She was friendly efficient and an asset to the pub. Thank you Kate.

Have visited on a number of occasions when walking from southport to formby. Always very welcoming and a great selection of beers and ale. Had food but only light bites stuff and I thought little expensive for what you get.

Visited the Freshfield on the recommendation of family and friends. All in all, what a nice atmosphric place to relax, with an extreemly large selection of Beers, and a Very welcoming Staff. Sorry but I have to say that the food is letting the Freshfield down, we were a party of four, and only one of us actually ate their meal. First of all, when ordering Fish and Chips we were informed it was off the menu, (very suprising considering it was a Friday, and traditionaly a Fish and Chip Day). The Chicken Kiev was nothing like a Chicken Kiev, it was two thinly slices of chicken covered in breadcrumbs with a weak garlic butter topping, it was so overcooked and 'rock' hard and as dry as a desert. The same dissapointment with the Burger, that was so over cooked tastless and poorly presented. The Fish cakes were NO better, tasteless and again overcooked. The Food is a Big let down for such a nice Pub situated in a Fantasic Area. You have so much to offer, and deliver on the Social side BUT PLEASE.........try to improve your menu and offer the same Fantastic service, value and Care that you put into your Bar. it looks like the food side comes second to the bar and beers on offer. Sorry for bad review but felt so let down.

Not as good as the last time we were there

Just had a lovely meal with friends to celebrate my birthday. Should have been fish and chips but ended up getting whale & chips. An enormous portion but really good. special thanks toJosh really looked after us and sang happy birthday so beautifully:-)

We arrived at around 2pm Sunday 18th, we hadn’t booked but the team were able to find a table for us. The menu was great with lots of different options, we had the halloumi & salt and pepper squid to start, both were delicious and came out in good time. For mains we had steak ciabatta, chicken & bacon ciabatta with a side of fries, once again the food was brilliant. The bar service was friendly and drinks were nice. Thank you to the team, especially Kim who really looked after us, we will definitely be returning soon!

Busy pub in the middle of a housing estate. On a Saturday afternoon it was full of people shouting at tv screens watching football and rugby. Good selection of beers and good service from the bar staff. Only there for a drink after a walk. Didn't see any food being served so don't know if they do food or not. Tall tables and high stool seating isn't for me but must appeal to some because the pub had plenty.

Lovely pub, spotlessly clean, with welcoming staff. Great selection of beers 10 lagers/ciders and 8 different real ales. Can't comment on food as we only called in for a beer, but by a clear country mile the best pub in the area.

A most welcome site after a 10 mile walk. Nice atmosphere and nicely done out. Very helpful and friendly staff. The service was quick and the food good. Great selection of beers... and most importantly, they sell Neck Oil.

Big group of us (16 people) visited the Freshfield for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. Food was excellent and the service was superb - we were looked after extremely well. Will definitely visit again.

I went to the Freshfield Pub for Christmas Dinner with my family. The festive ambiance, attentive staff, and delicious menu made it the perfect way to celebrate the holidays. I had the fish with tigers shrimp, potatoes and vege -- it was delicious! Highly recommend for a festive and delicious celebration!

Came in for lunch with my family, set a tab up, ordered drinks. Then when we came to the bar to order food we were told they weren't serving food for an hour or so until a buffet csme out. During this time the manageress sat down to eat. Other food came out to other guests in this time. Very disappointed with our children starving after a country walk.

A little expensive for what you get but good range of beers on tap and easy to communicate to the staff about food allergies.

Food was incredible. Hospitality was horrific, staff members were incredibly rude and many drunk people making guests uncomfortable.

Came here for Sunday roast and despite only chicken available the food was comforting. Fluffy enjoyed many admiring paws! My mate John was showing me around the Freshie and many rooms to keep everyone happy.

Visiting our friends in Formby we decided to pay a visit to the Fresh fields. First the good news...there was a great selection of beers and this was accompanied by friendly service. However three of us had the Freshfield Burger( obviously a house speciality)and I can happily report that the burger topping of crispy pork was excellent as was the moist bun and very acceptable chips . Unfortunately all our burgers were. dry and singed to the extent that one wonders if King Alfred had taken over the pub kitchen. Puddings, by the way, were decent.

I booked this restaurant for 4pm for Sunday lunch as been before at it was very nice. On this occasion when we arrived they told us it was busy so they were running late. They also said that they had run out of roast beef..so we had to have roast chicken. We waited an hour before we were eventually served. Sadly it was not worth the wait ..all the vegetables were undercooked and stone cold and there was barely any chicken on the bones. What was there was dry too. Sadly we wont be returning for a while. On the plus side the staff were very nice.

We hosted a big family (almost 50 of us) event for our Mum's Celebrate of Life this past weekend. Kate was fantastic with all the arrangements. The venue was perfect as we had the back section and courtyard to ourselves - so loads of room especially for the kids. The buffet and staff were great. Definitely recommend and will be going back soon. Thanks Freshfield's pub!

Home-made nachos best I’ve ever tasted great little pub with super beer highly recommended

My Husband & visited a few times during the heatwave, sampling the steak baguette/chicken & bacon sandwich/fishcakes & Korean chicken burger; all of them we highly recommend . Then on a family visit we sampled/recommended the prawns & chorizo/chicken wings/seafood risotto/Korean burgers & a child’s chicken nuggets & chips; all were scrumptious and served by the ever-cheerful, pleasant efficient Kim, Kate and The Freshie Team
