First time in a couple of decades that I’ve been able to stop off and try this place that has looked interesting but not quite tested my curiosity enough. Today there a parking space at the side of the road, the doors were open and there people scattered around part of the visible garden and evidence of an enthusiast filming a trad folk or dance group near the top of the beer garden. Mid afternoon the first rooms I entered to the small but well stocked bar were empty but quickly a trail of customer with group orders. I bought a bottle of Crabbes steeped alcoholic steeped ginger beer - £5.50. Got sight of the varied enticing eat in or takeaway pizza menu which on a Sunday is served till 7. Was warned the opening days and times are a bit complex but the feel of the place and the helpful staff made me inclined to return another time.

We stopped here in July 2024 on a road trip looking for a pub lunch. Strangely the only food available was from a pizza van in the garden, which turned out to be quite delicious, although not quite what we were looking for. Nice pub, nice pub garden too.

Would highly recommend. We were staying at Horwood House which we felt was lacking a little atmosphere so decided to risk venturing out to The Shoulder of Mutton and we're so glad we did. The landlord was ever so kind, polite and accommodating and the locals made us feel right at home.

Unfortunately we lost an ex colleague and his 'wake' was at the Shoulder of Mutton. Great service, food and ambiance. What really impressed me was that when I asked the landlord for the number of a taxi company - he instantly and very kindly offered to drive us the mile or so to our hotel. I have never experienced such warmth in a pub from someone I did not know. The pub has character, as does the landlord.

We booked a table for 1pm and arrived at around 12:40 for a drink. We got told that the chef wasn't around and may turn up around 1 or later. Ordered the food around 1:15 to be told its a 15 minute wait for food. At 2:20 still no food and got told that the pizza oven wasn't heating up. We then decided to ask for a refund. Told that they were not sure how to process a refund. They said we should have realised when we ordered the food. Avoid at all costs unless you have booked a space in the churchyard opposite whilst you wait for your food.

Brilliant pub. Hosted a big group and was always on it with service no prolonged waiting. Tip for Scotsmen, the Landlord will try and persuade you to buy English whisky, don't fall for it, he'll end up buying you one to convince you, then you spend a fortune on Lakes No. 5 because it's actually brilliant!

One of dying breed. Nice country pub, firebin wintwr, lovely beer garden in summer, free house choice of beers and ales with standard favourites plus some nice rotations... and without the usual chain dross. Nice quirk of having a wood fired pizza oven in the garden offering really tasty 'made to order' rather than 'hauled from freezer' pizzas.

A fantastic local - the real heart of the village. This pub has been through a lot in the last decade - the previous landlord ran it into the ground trying to turn it into a London style organic pizzetta restaurant with ridiculous prices and offensive service. Lewis and Tia have been absolute life savers and along with the help of the village have transformed the pub into something very special. There is a great atmosphere, along with a varied selection of beers and spirits. Ales and Gin’s in particular. ‘Luigi’s pizza’ has been a great hit and will tempt you whenever one is delivered to another table! I’ve been coming here for 10 years - and it’s the best it’s ever been!

What a great little pub. So many pubs now have been refurbished and end up feeling sterile. This place is well looked after but still feels like a traditional pub. The selection of beer was good and there was a nice friendly atmosphere. I went on a Wednesday evening and they got the dart board out so looks like there are activities some days as well. There is an outdoor space which looks great but I went on a cold February evening so can't say too much about it. A great place if you are looking for a drink in a traditional setting. It looks like they do pizza some times but there isn't food so don't turn up for dinner. Also it's seems to shut at 10pm.

This is my local pub. I think the atmosphere is great largely due to the fact that it is not a restaurant pub. The pop up pizza is simple and really good eating and the fish and chip van also visits. It is a real pub where people mix mingle and chat without having to ‘be seated’ restaurant style.

What a lovely pub! Being disappointed with our hotel dining up the road we took a taxi here. We were aware that the only food available was pizza but that was fine. As soon as we walked in we felt welcomed everyone was so cheery and friendly. We had reserved a table but it was not necessary The beers and drinks were varied and lovely. We were served at the table by attentive staff. The pizzas were the best ever. Freshly made in a wagon in the garden. Very reasonable price too. We had a fair few drinks over the few hours we were there. We called a taxi ( Skyline Cabs) and was informed it would be 30-45 mins. The lady at the pub said she would have taken us back to the hotel! How nice was that. We got our drinks and imediately got a Whatsapp informing us the taxi was due in 1 min! No mater we cancelled him and rebooked in order to finish our drinks. Again it came swiftly and with a Whatsapp message and map of its progress. No complaints with Skyline. All in all a lovely evening was had. Recommended.

Although it's over twenty years since i left the village, i still have family and close friends there, so get to visit frequently. The transformation of this delightful pub by the villagers, after it's brief ruination, is nothing short of remarkable. It has since been taken on by very competent landlords who recognised it's potential and have been busy turning it into a little gem. The food's varied and tasty, the beer's great and the atmosphere friendly and inviting. Wouldn't it be great if every village had one of these!

Having known this particular pub for many years I was excited to visit again after the recent renovations, sadly I was very disappointed with the layout and poor furnishings. The small bar area is towards the rear of the pub, which easily becomes crowded with people sat or stood at the bar, instantly you feel uncomfortable having to ask for space to get served. The furniture was very basic kitchen wooden chairs, painted in various pastel colours and plain pine tables, the general paint scheme to the walls was white and grey leading to a cold unfriendly feeling. Features like old beams had been painted over and a small electric fire placed in what was once a welcoming fire place. In short an old pub full of character has been turned into a clinical room with no atmosphere. The whole decor is more suited to a contemporary coffee shop than an old listed building public house.

Our wonderful village pub is back and better than ever! Thanks to a fantastic community effort, the pub reopened in the autumn with a stylish interior. An instant success, Lewis and Tia have now taken over the long term management, bringing some of their own tweaks and a range of fantastic plans for the next couple of months. In the meantime, the fish and chip van comes every Friday evening from about 7pm and there are street vans most Saturdays. A warm welcome from the new team, a lovely fire and atmosphere. A real destination, English pub with new thatch and oozing with charm!

Very expensive for what you get. I ordered a chicken mayo baguette and it was just that - a small baguette rolling around a big plate with cheap-tasting butter and mayo. I got a teeny side salad of about 4 lettuce leaves and 5-6 pomegranate seeds on it. Also I was halfway through my drink when a member of staff cleared the table and took the drink too - I had to ask for it back. The young girls they've hired are friendly though.
