Another excellent Vintage Inn. I really love these pubs. The usual decor quality and a well thought -out tribute to a lovely local pub. I had superb service from Charlotte and the food was absolutely up to their quality and price. The halloumi skewers were delicous, feta salad beautifully fresh. My friend loved her Chicken Parmigiana. I really love this kind of menu. Thanks Charlotte

After waiting 90 minutes to be seated and get our first bite of food, we were incredibly disappointed by the quality of food. It was bland and tasteless. It then got worse when we were reminded of the price the end! £20.50 for a katsu where initially were given overcooked crunchy rice and some sauce! Imagine! They forgot the actual protein! On the positive side the decor was nice and the outside part!

Excellent service Excellent food

This is a very pleasant place to dine. The decor is lovely although not so sure how the cloth covered chairs will look in couple years time with people's greasy hands all over the arms! Overall the whole place is clean and well presented. Choice of food is good, if a little on the pricey side now, and presented well and tasted good. This visit was let down by the service and attention to detail unfortunately. Having been sat at our table we then had to wait 5 minutes or so for someone to take our drinks order. Why can't you ask when showing people to table as after all most people know what they want. We then waited another 7 minutes or so for the drinks to arrive with the waitress coming back for our food order before the drinks actually arrived. My wife asked for a pink gin & lemonade with no ice and filled to top, but guess what it had ice in it and glass only half full. Someone ordered an aperol spritz, at £9.75 I might add, and it for all the world seemed to be just aperol with ice and glass nearly half full. Requested some more soda with but nearly made a difference to the level in the glass. Disgusting for the price. Small Pepsi on draught £3.55 for christs sake. Is it no wonder hospitality is suffering with these sort of prices. Having ordered our food we then had to wait approx 40 mins for it to arrive, whereas another table of 4 that sat down a good 15 - 20 minutes after us got theirs at almost the same time. Both us and them didn't have starters so you might expect a slightly longer wait for mains but this was not good enough. Food was lovely but staffing seems to be the issue with either not enough for the time of day, which in the long run affects your business or lack of training. It won't stop us coming back but a little more attention to detail would be nice, especially bearing in mind the cost of the food and drink these days

We had lunch yesterday for my mums 60th and we were all really impressed! The food was amazing, service was really good! The waitress Charlotte was very patient and helpful while helping my mum with what she could/couldn’t have with her intolerance, which she normally finds quite stressful when we go out to eat. I would highly recommend and we will be back very soon 👏🏼

Fantastic quality meals! The quality of their salads, meat & deserts is outstanding. You can truly taste the effort put into each dish. Above is pictures of a lamb skewer with pineapple and mango infused salad with a banoffe infused desert 😅 Had me struggling to get up once done. 10/10.

Awful service Spoke rudely to by the male manager as soon as we entered the pub. Made to feel very uncomfortable and unwelcomed. Did not stay for food because of this.

We have been visiting The Travellers for many years & always think the food is good. The service however is extremely hit & miss - during bank holidays in particular the staff are very strained & you really notice that the attention just isn’t there. The manageress can be very brash & moody which brings the whole atmosphere down. We visited today for a family meal after debating whether it would be a good idea - sadly it wasn’t. Dirty glasses were sent back, only for a second set of questionable replacements to arrive. A sharing platter was delivered with no side plates to eat from. No fish & chips left on Good Friday lunchtime so goodness knows how they will get through a bank holiday weekend, very poor planning. Dessert spoons were provided one short & the only extra one they could find was a soup spoon. We also had a 20% off coupon which they were adamant didn’t apply for our visit even though the app said it was valid. Felt the service deserved an 20% discount regardless. All in all they need to pull their socks up with their service. And maybe employ more staff at holiday times. It’s a fantastic pub with great food- but avoid at busy times, as you may well be disappointed. Such a shame

We had a very pleasant lunch day - tasty food and excellent service from Jan. The Travellers Rest is in a great position for meeting friends from different local areas.

Never again! We went out with some friends for an anniversary. I didn’t know lately the beer was served with hair in it. Is this s new trend? Anyway raised it with the staff and they just took it away it and we’ve offcourse paid for it. We’ve ordered some food, they were out if ribeye so decided to order some pork. Food was miserable, just a chunk off greasy bacon, no meat at all. Wine was good though, best part of the dinner 😀 To make it even better we were overcharged. Raised the points, they apologised and wanted to adjust the bill, but that was not the point. You go out to have ani e evening. Never again, experience was shocking.

We booked and came for a Sunday Roast dinner which was recommended but all bar one roast option (pork) was unavailable. No pigs in blankets or cauliflower cheese, either! The place was busy, but there was no excuse for running out of options. I had to settle for fish and chips, but It didn't matter about the quality because I came for a roast and was just disappointed by it all. We sat there next to a table enjoying their beef roasts( oh great). Staff seemed rushed off their feet, but with the best intentions, the service was poor. After our meal, the waitress half cleared our table and said she would be back for the rest. 20 minutes later, she still hadn't returned and was serving other customers, so we decided not to order dessert and just asked for the bill. This was our first visit and I'll leave it up to you to conclude what we thought of our experience.

Excellent !!!! Lovely warm welcome from the team , hadn’t booked but was asked if we preferred inside or out . Decided to eat outside and make the most of the weather. Garden was pretty full but we didn’t wait for food or drinks . Ordering from the app was great and suited us . Every member of staff was smiling and laughing with each other and made us feel really welcome .

My partner and I visited recently and we had a great meal, staff were polite and friendly, food was top notch. Choosing The Travellers Rest was definitely the right decision to go to, we have little free time and like to make the most of it when when get it and the delightful meal we had meant it was well spent. The staff are fantastic and clearly have the right attitude throughout, they’re clearly well lead by the management team.

Very poor service. The customer before me was totally ignored by the two members of staff. One getting drinks while the other stood chatting to her. After I got served and took my drinks back to our table my wife noticed her glass was not particularly clean. She cleaned it herself using a tissue, we finished most of our drinks then left.

Rather fine full veggie breakfast less the beetroot hash (obvs) on a rather grey Sunday morning. Lovely interior and parts are dog friendly too!

Lovely roast dinner on Sunday. Lots of gravy and very hot . It was extremely busy, so we were rather neglected by our server, who said she didn't usually work Sundays, but never mind, it stopped us having puddings and coffee !

Very disappointing. Went there for a evening meal Sunday for my birthday. Run out of roast beef, cauliflower, pigs in blankets. I had the last portion of belly pork, no crackling. Some roast potatoes were cold. All the vegetables were cold. The only good point was the Timothy Taylors Landlord was spot on. Will not be going back there. Pathetic.

Visited for a roast and a burger. The burger was very bland. The roast potatoes were probably OK a couple of hours before but tough and chewy after hanging around, Yorkshire and parsnips the same. You can have lots of gravy though, if you like oily, salty, tasteless gravy. Turkey very nice, brocoli and carrot also. Service good.

Great pub, often take the dog. The bar (dog friendly area) is quite small so some can be challenging with the dog. But it's a regular jaunt we frequent!

My partner and I had a lovely meal here, and the staff were excellent. We will definitely be going back.

We have been to the Travellers Rest a few times before and enjoyed it. However recently this was not our experience. We had booked and requested a table by a window if possible, the Manageress was not a friendly person and said she could not do this as she had a full restaurant. We were there at about 12.30 and they were not that busy so after being shown a table for 2 we asked again for a table for 2 by a window, she then showed us a very suitable one by a window and said that was all she had! We took it and settled down to our meal. The waitress was a charming young person and in time the meal arrived. But the chicken parmagiana was very dry and no tomato jus. My partner had the seabass which was presented with the fish skin side up not a good presentation. Also our plates were cold which meant that halfway through so was our meal. The dessert was very good as was the coffee. As we have recently got their App for offers we are now wondering if this was a good idea!

Great food served by great staff, in a very pleasant atmosphere. Also, the cleanest toilets I've seen in any restaurant for a long time. I wish we lived closer.... 110% recommended.

Excellent food served by excellent friendly and helpful staff. The roast beef was so tender and nice size portions. My husband had the ribeye steak and was cooked to perfection. The banoffee choux bun and sticky toffee pudding also were rather lovely!. One of our go to restaurants now. Always a warm welcome See you again soon

We visited here before the refurb a couple of years ago so I think this review should start fresh from my old one. They’ve really brightened the place up and modernised it, but kept some of the vintage charm such as low ceilings, the fireplace, doorframes etc. The food has drastically improved in my opinion since last time. Whilst I felt the garlic mushrooms were a little bland, the ribeye steak more than made up for it. One of the most melt in your mouth steaks I’ve ever had. Cooked rare to perfection. Good portion sizes. Service was good, waitresses were friendly and always happy to assist with any queries, further drinks orders. Top marks all round. Very happy.

Very disappointing a dryed up burger served up with skinny Mcain oven chips, £18.00 we will have to think if we want to come again, what a sham !!

A really enjoyable experience. Great staff especially Jess, Ella, Ellen, Emily, and Alana plus a very stalwart Dan. Tasty food was good and promptly in an area by the open fire. Comfy afternoon in all.

Lovely family friendly restaurant with great menu and delicious food! Catered for our family meal of 19 people incredibly well - we’ll be back for sure!

Nothing was great. Service was terrible and very slow. We were sat in the corner and we basically got forgotten about we both ordered the singure burger. That contain no brisket so we had to complain about that. My wife ordered the chocolate brownie but it dry over cooked and burnt. When we got the bill nothing had been taken so we asked of they could take the brownie off the bill. The manger was so rude and put out by offering 10 percent off the bill.

Really disappointed by our meal here tonight. We've been before and had a fairly good experience, however, we had to complain twice about separate issues. Our brisket burgers contained almost no brisket and the brownie was tasteless and dry. Clearly very overcooked. The service was incredibly slow to the point where we felt forgotten. When we received the bill no money had been taken off and no appoligies made. I requested an arrangement as we weren't happy and was offered 10% off by a manager with an extremely rude attitude which quite frankly stunk. We certainly won't be returning in a hurry. A real shame as it was my husbands birthday meal.

Nice place to eat. Food tasty, good portions. Friendly and polite staff. Little disappointed, there is always something you can't get on the menu. Food did take quite a while to come out.

Really good food, seated us in bar area. Only weird part was they wanted to sell the two steak & venison pies before allowing us to order a chicken & mushroom one. Chicken parm was fantastic as was all the skewers/pies & sarnies!

So is just one step up from a Harvester but food in the whole is ok but not great. The staff however think that they are doing you a favour to serve you poor food and cold custard. When we complained we were told that it was ok because Alfie was a trainee and serving cold custard at full price was just a problem we should accept as he needed to learn. Not quite sure how much training it takes to heat custard but seems it is quite difficult. The outrage form the silly little girl behind the bar when we complained after the third lot of bad cold custard was hilarious. The manger did her best to sort things out but the attitude of the bar maid was so poor that nothing can really change the bad feeling we left with.

The whole place was freezing cold so we kept our coats on. Some food was sent back for reheating!

The meals were not very good. Festive menu.... 1 tiny slice of turkey, burnt Yorkshire pudding, garlic potatoes which is not traditional for a turkey dinner so had to have chips, gravy boat spluttered with gravy all over the outside. Sea bass charred black skin so hardly any flesh remained. Scallop starters in cheese sauce so over microwaved to boiling point could not eat. When cooled down scallops like bullets.

Good service. Let my mum and wife have the Child's portion of the Christmas meal as they have small appetites. Both agreed the best Turkey and Christmas pudding they've ever had!
