Saturday night and 10 of us had our Christmas party together. The staff could t have been more professional and attentive. The three courses came out simultaneously - the specific dietary requirements were followed meticulously. The food was fantastic (Sea Bream was amazing) and the staff were on hand for top ups. The Inn is characterful and atmospheric. I can’t rate it highly enough - strong recommendation.

We’ve been here a lot over the years with friends and have always enjoyed excellent food and service. Today however we were not impressed. Our food (only the main course was ordered for the 4 of us ) seemed to take forever to come and others who had arrived later were served well before us. It may be that the kitchen was trying to coordinate the meals to arrive at the same time but this has never previously been an issue. In addition two of us had the pork belly …which was burnt, especially one of the servings which was quite black, whilst the chips in the fish and chip option were hard as if only partially cooked and cold too. We didn’t say anything at the time as it was pretty busy and we didn’t waist to cause a fuss or send the food back, but we left feeling disappointed. Neither the food nor the service were up to the standard we have come to expect. Hopefully it was a one off but the restaurant won’t be our first choice for an outing for a while.

Called in today for an impromptu lunch. Over the years I've had some great meals here, but today was exceptional. Everything clicked into place. It's always a good sign when the menu is so good, you can't decide what to eat. With autumn upon upon us, some good comfort food was the order of the day. After some deliberation, it was Creamy Blue Cheese Mushrooms to start - and it all blended together into a wonderfully satisfying dish, followed by the Grilled Cumberland Sausages. I normally avoid sausages when eating out, but trusting my intuition, I was rewarded with a coupe of excellent banger, complemented by the potato rosti, buttered cabbage and (stunning) onion gravy. Amazing depth of flavour. Exceptional!

We were staying at the campsite just up the road from this pub, so walked into the village for our evening meal. What a treat! The food was delicious and way above your average pub meals. I had tuna and it was perfectly cooked, with noodles and vegetables to accompany. My husband’s lamb with mash and minted peas was equally excellent. Great food, good beer (have an ale that's their own as well!), good service and great atmosphere! The menu is changing on a regular basis, so don't be surprised you can't find that dish you loved for few weeks, but don't worry :new dishes usually equally good!. In a pleasant village southeast of Buckingham, the pub restaurant comprises a large conservatory and several smaller rooms. The car park is not huge and the frequent bevy of SUVs can force you to street parking. The reception is friendly, and they responded quickly and well to last minute changes in the timing. The menu is large and varied enough for most tastes, and prices are very reasonable for such good quality and it should be possible to have an interesting three-course meal for ca £40 per person. The standard of cooking is well above average, and service was efficient. The menu includes at least one Oriental dish, as well as vegan, fish and familiar British dishes. For drinks we have tended to have a draught beer, often the house ale (a rebadged beer). We first used the Old Thatched Inn as it was placed halfway between our homes, but have returned several times as a reliable choice.

We recently had Sunday lunch with friends which was ok until we came to the dessert which purported to be Honeycomb ice cream which was awful, tasting of chemicals and with no honeycomb in sight. What was most disappointing was that we paid 3 x £90 each over 3 couples and the waiter was not at all interested in our very poor dessert and there was no offer to remove the cost from the bill. This is not an acceptable level of quality or service in a restaurant we have visited many times previously when we lived in the area.

First time customer although lived locally for over a decade. Always been highly recommended in conversation by people. We had a starter, roast and a pudding with a delicious bottle of pinotage. Celeriac soup was absolutely outstanding, beaten only by a beetroot soup I’ve had before in the Cotswolds. However, sorry to say my trio roast left me stunned with disappointment. I had one very thin slice of beef, the same serving with the pork and then an actual chicken drumstick? I did voice my disappointment and the lovely waitress brought me some extra beef and pork which only resembled what I can skin to a bacon medallion in portion size. Super duper surprised with this. The trio roast was priced at £23. Maybe they were short on meat - it was very busy - but it really spoilt my meal. Lovely setting, wonderful ambience, decent wine. Maybe it was a one off but we will not be rushing back to see. Apologies.

Been here a few times each time really good experience, this time was a bit of let down as meals were 'thrown together' no attention to detail, standard 'pub grub' and way over priced-steak very poor one over, one under and fatty and over priced. Rule of thumb to not send back, the garlic butter sauce was just a cream, no garlic - did send that back. Probably won't visit again sadly, was brilliant a few months ago. As a previously experienced 'gastro pub' experience as a bench mark, we expected a few finer details in plating and menu options.

Went with my partner for Valentine's Day evening meal. Haven't been for a while as have moved further away, but thought we would treat ourselves. The welcome from Andy and his staff is always warm and friendly and felt like coming home after some time away. I had the Celeriac & Truffle Soup, Cheddar Cheese Scone, Salted Butter, to start, which for me was so creamy and tasty, the best soup I have had for some time, my partner had the Goats Cheese Mousse, Beetroot Carpaccio, Candied Walnuts, Wild Rocket, she stated this was tasty and just the right amount of serving so that you could progress and enjoy the rest of the meal. For my main, I had theTwo Bone Rack of Lamb, Dauphinoise Potatoes, Peas a la Francais, Minted Red Wine Jus, which for me was cooked to perfection, my partner had the Slow Cooked Feather Blade of Beef , Truffle Mashed Potatoes, Toasted Herb Crumb, Green Beans, Roasted Shallot, Bordelaise Sauce which looked, smelt and tasted delicious ( as I had some of hers too, it is Valentines Day). Finally we both had dessert, I decided on the Espresso Custard Choux Bun, Baileys Butterscotch Sauce and my partner had Passion Fruit Tart, Raspberry Sorbet, Mango Syrup. My dessert, again was delicious for me, lots of cream and sauce, which may for some, seem a little sickly, but for me, was perfect, my partner commented how lovely hers was and glad she chose that one. I have been coming to the Old Thatched Inn since just before 2008 credit crash, I remember how concerned Andy was about the future, but if just do the right thing, cook the food with care and make people feel welcome and good about themselves in that environment, well, he is still doing it today, with the same care and affection for his business and customers. Wish we could get down more to give even more support, keep going Andy, see you soon

I have eaten at this pub for many years. This is the first time I felt I needed to comment. I had the Prawn cocktail as a main (£17.00!!) & I found a peice of plastic in my mouth after 3 mouthfuls. I showed this to the manager, who said”yes, it’s from the lid of the cocktail mix they use”. I explained it was quite a large piece & could have cut my mouth. No apologies, no concern. He took the piece of plastic from me & disappeared into the kitchen. I didn’t see him again. He didn’t come back to our table to offer an apology, or offer a refund or any kind of explanation, The pub wasn’t even particularly busy. We paid in full for our meal, with no regard to the fact that a piece of plastic had ended up on my plate! I wouldn’t expect a full refund, just an apology and perhaps a free glass of wine. My friend’s fish (haddock) was watery and the batter was soggy & flavourless. All in all, a really dissatisfying and disappointing visit. For sure like other eating places the Pandemic was a tough survival task but they have more than survived. Friendly welcome and well kept ales at this deceptively large village pub. Large dining area and plenty of outdoor seating.

Went for a Sunday Roast for our anniversary, great food and lovely staff. Vanilla and raspberry cheesecake and sticky toffee and brownie sundae were both super tasty. Kind gesture of a chocolate plate too. Would recommend.

Brilliant dinner for four at the Old Thatched Inn. This is the best place to eat within 12 miles of home. A slight misunderstanding about the location of our table for four was sorted within seconds, a splendid evening ensued. This is how to get...

Absolutely awful, food took over an hour to make when we were the only ones in the cafe, two bacon rolls were appalling, one slice of bacon in a mini hot dog bun for £4.60. Used to be amazing when we were young absolute awful now. Do not recommend

Lovely building, great food. Went for a roast lunch, and get a lot for the money. Nice old building, low ceilings - a lot of character! Staff friendly and attentive.

Friendly pub, good beer and the food is lovely. Prices are extremely reasonable too. Alan the landlord will give you a full history of the pub, which is quite extensive. Locals are very friendly and welcoming.

Very expensive for what you get. I ordered a chicken mayo baguette and it was just that - a small baguette rolling around a big plate with cheap-tasting butter and mayo. I got a teeny side salad of about 4 lettuce leaves and 5-6 pomegranate seeds on it. Also I was halfway through my drink when a member of staff cleared the table and took the drink too - I had to ask for it back. The young girls they've hired are friendly though.
