Try the curvery. I think it’s the best food you can have. Great the pool even for the kids

Absolutely horrendous food, came here due to decent reviews, but the worse meal I've ever been served, started off with greasy table tops, finger prints on cutlery, flat tasteless beer, ordered the rump steak, rump was decent a little fatty but edible, the rest of the meal was appalling, reheated chips from what looked like the day before, soggy onion rings a non-grilled tomato, and mushrooms that I have never ever seen served burnt and charred, to top it off, to grab the attention of waiting on staff was a nightmare, the restaurant looked like they had taken too many bookings with not enough staff, the photo attached says it all, avoid at all cost!

Fab meal , steak cooked to perfection, lovely staff and added bonus of dog being allowed in separate designated dining area , highly recommend

Went with 1 of my sons who was back from teaching in China for Christmas with his 2 daughters and my husband. The lady Waitress was amazing considering our meal was booked for 7pm and she had been working from 10.30 that morning with only a 45 minute lunch break.

The staff very friendly and the location is pretty but unfortunately the food was below par and clearly frozen and even under cooked when it came to the chicken. The garlic bread was obviously frozen as it was cold at the bottom and the bread was mushy from being in the microwave. Wouldn't recommend for food.

Disappointed by poor customer service, unprofessional manner, lack of respect to the customer.

Really great food and good portions.

We ate here 3 nights out of a possible 6. Carvery is available every night and I've had a few caverys - this was the best carvery I've ever had. We also had steak, cooked to perfection and lasagne which came with garlic bread,.salad,. coleslaw. We are used to big sizes and these are big sizes! We did manage to squeeze in dessert one night which are equally generous portions. I would definitely go again and definitely recommend

Couldn’t recommend this place enough. I have been twice now and the first time we went my 2 years old daughter was asleep as we went in and they offered us a booth so that she could lay down and even gave her a fluffy blanket to sleep with which was so lovely of them. I went back this time because the carvery I had the first time was that nice and it definitely didnt disappoint the second time around! Food is fresh and tastes lovely. Only downside is they don’t offer mashed potato on the carvery but that is the only thing I could say. Other than that this place is brilliant and the staff are lovely. Especially with lady with the orange/red hair, I can’t remember her name but she is amazing

Fabulous food. Hubby had cod mornay, I had a rack of ribs. The meals were huge, the desserts even more so. Delicious lemon roulade and a chocolate éclair, which we both failed to finish. Lovely place, very nice staff. Service was a little slow.

Always receive great food and friendly service here. Never had a bad experience. So glad we live so close. Definitely recommend this place!

We always like the Shire. It's fairly basic in seating arrangements and decor and clearly designed for maximum footfall but the point of going is the food and the carvery never fails to disappoint in quality and quantity.

The main course was brilliant, gluten free Ribs and poached salmon linguine The pudding was a let down mass produced cakes, not home made. They forgot our side extra dish until prompted. Nice people, clean and tidy. Would go again but check your pudding first, you can’t miss it as you go through the door

Amazing service, amazing food, very attentive to dogs and great value for money, best carvery we've been to ever, went on a Thursday evening, will definitely go back when back in Cornwall, will tell everyone I know visiting Cornwall to go here

Me and my now wife have been here a few times over the past years and never been disappointed. This year is no exception, perfect Carvery, the best I've ever had, the leek sauce is amazing. The staff are polite, courteous and chatty. The deserts are to die for, and I can recommend the Korev. We will definitely be back again....maybe tomorrow 😁😁

Nice venue, amazing afters, nice carvery. Only down side was since our last visit they now individually charge for some items normally included in a carvery. Used to get a colly cheese in the carvery line up with a pig in blanket, also parsnips were next to the spuds as most carverys do. If I remember correctly all are now £4 each as an optional extra! All you want is 1 pig in blanket and a few parsnips with a scoop of colly cheese. An extra £12 on top for this is a bit much

Food was ok, garlic mushrooms were over cooked as was the fish from the fish & chips. Everything else was spot on, won't discourage us, will definitely try again.

Wow... superb Sunday lunch. The carvery had choice of 3 meats loads of veg and the best roast potatoes ever! Only issue is we are on holiday and it's too far away otherwise would be there many times. Definitely recommend 👌

Went here for a birthday.... Food was good, the service was outstanding by our waitress....atmosphere was a bit flat but there wasn't many people within the pub itself

We havnt been here for years but thought we would give it a go. 6 of us had different meals and all were excellent. The service was great and we had a wonderful time.

We dined at the Shire Inn for my daughters 18th birthday. Both the waitress and the young waiter that served us were very polite and professional. The wait for the food was about 45 minutes which personally I thought was too long but they were extremely busy so we accepted it. We ordered two carvery’s, two different burgers, a rump steak and a rack of ribs. All of the food was excellent, I can’t fault it.However I will say the portions were huge! I find it off putting to see so much food on a plate. I asked for a peppercorn sauce to accompany my steak but there was so much I could have bathed in it! For bigger eaters this place is excellent! The cost of the food was excellent too, very reasonable for the amount of food you get. Maybe small/child size portions could be an option on the whole menu? The desserts looked lovely but no one could eat one as we were too full! Oh well you can’t please everyone. Will we go back? Yes definitely! Just won’t eat for two days beforehand 🤣 A lovely evening, thank you!

Lovely place for a meal. We came with a large party of 10 and service was great. Meals are very generous portions and well priced. Several vegetarian options on offer as well

Mother's day so very busy. Had a wait and at the carvery. Food was okay, paid extra for cauliflower cheese and parsnips.

Beautifully cooked, the roast beef was perfect! Vegetables hot and desserts were amazing! So much so we had one in the restaurant and took another home for later!

Great carvery! We came here for a Sunday carvery and thoroughly enjoyed the food. We had the turkey and beef, which was perfectly cooked and the choice of vegetables was great too. The gravy was amazing 👏 It gets very busy, but worth the wait if you can or book a table in advance.

A nice evening, slightly disappointed with my meal however didn't complain as didn't want to cause upset. I had off the special menu, had steak and ale pie however it had mushrooms in it, not mentioned, should have been mentioned on the menu due to allergies and I don't like them, put me off it tbh, sadly, rest of family enjoyed there meals though

We came here for the carvery on a Sunday and though there was a queue for the food and the server forgot one of our drinks and got one of the drinks wrong. The food was great. Thoroughly enjoyed it. We had the turkey and beef. Moist and and tender. It was very busy so it was lucky that we had booked a table in advance. I also had a vegan sticky pudding to take away. It was nice however, portion was a bit on the small side for the price. We will definitely be going there again. Forgot to take photos because food was so good just got on and ate.

Just turned up without a booking and was asked to wait for a few minutes,by the time we bought drinks, a table was available ,we chose the carvery with extra sides, and what a beautiful meal it was, the sides are big enough for 2 people,the young man that served us and kept checking to see everything was ok was excellent and unobtrusive,got chatting to other people whilst waiting and it made the atmosphere very relaxed and enjoyable, my partner and I will definitely be coming back soon. Lovely food and custimor service

Is what it is! I give it a 4 because it is a consistent feed every time. Always leave well fed and watered. I had the carvery, bit of each on the meat because I'm a growing boy (AKA greedy) and the portions of each would equate to a serving in most pubs. Roast potatoes were crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside and there was a good variety of vegetables and sides. The amount of people they cater for throughout a sunday, I dont know how they do it and still up hold there standards. Not Al a carte, but they don't pretend to be, good wholesome roast and I don't have to do the dishes. Guiness was pretty decent to! Not far off a 5 if I am honest as The Shire never comes up short!

Very seldom do I leave a review but get down to the shire. We had the tomopork and sea bass on specials amazing this is a game changer 👌

Lovely carvery as always, and also lovely selection of homemade desserts.

Lovely meal in the conservatory, nice vegan / vegetarian options, friendly and helpful staff too.

Depends if big crowds of people from one group are making alot of noise, other that that a lovely restaurant

Beautiful restaurant and nicely presented. Food (Carvery) was plentiful and tasty as expected but nothing fancy. Staff were professional and courteous. Sunday Lunchtime was very noisy so hard to hold a conversation but overall a fairly good experience.

Visited today for the first time. Presently surprised at the size of the venue. There is plenty of parking behind the frontage and the staff are really friendly and helpful. Great selection of food including local produce and there is plenty to choose from. The portions will satisfy the appetite of even the hungriest diner! We only had 2 courses and skipped the desert as too full! The dessert display was impressive and we will definitely be back for more

Wow what a terrible experience on Christmas Eve we had. 9 of us booked a table 3 weeks ago and paid deposit over the phone. We got there to be told they didn’t reserve a table for us, then we were put in a boring room with no Christmas atmosphere and all plane table's sticky and dirty. They forgot us and servers other people before us and the drinks were terrible too, food was dry and over cooked, person at the dessert counter was so rude and had no idea what she was doing. Then they tried to charge us over the top. Will never go there again.

The shire in on the praze and Peeble road i went to today was a great experience had a Carvery and it was beautiful. If you love dining out this is the place to go. Top class food.

No music at Christmas parties...why?

Well established restaurant offering carvery plus Al la carte menu. Intimate areas for dining as well as large areas that could be designated for private parties. Sunday carvery speciality. Bar area with seating around an open fire, cosy during the winter. Large car parking area and outside seating if weather fine

Went here with my 2 friends for a carvery.Very tasty food.One of the best carverys in Cornwall. Friendly staff too.

Booked this hidden gem last minute and found we could take our dog 🐶 there too. We were quickly seen to and shown to our tables, in the dog seating area. Both my partner and I were rally impressed by the portion size, presentation and taste of our food. She had the homemade fish pie and I the tacos. There was a lovely potato salad, side salad and coleslaw with her meal and I had curried rice, side salad and coleslaw with mine. All I can say is that the chef and front of house are a credit to this business and I cannot recommend it enough.

I recently dined at The Shire Inn Restaurant and had a pleasant experience. The restaurant was clean and had a friendly atmosphere, which added to the overall positive impression. In terms of pricing, I found the menu to be well-priced considering the generous portions of food served. My kid thoroughly enjoyed her meals, and the portion size was satisfying. The only minor issue was that the food was served very hot, but we quickly resolved that by allowing it to cool down a bit. My partner ordered from the limited vegetarian menu and chose the Lasagne. While she felt that it could have been better, she acknowledged that taste preferences can vary, so it might have been a matter of personal preference. As for me, I opted for the roast, and I must say, it exceeded my expectations. The portion was substantial, and the flavours were delicious. I would definitely recommend it to others. Lastly, I couldn't resist trying the homemade cake, which came at a cost of £5 per slice. Though it might seem a bit pricey, I found it to be worth every penny. The cake was delectable and made for a delightful end to the meal. Overall, The Shire Inn Restaurant provided a pleasant dining experience with friendly service, well-priced meals, and delicious dishes. I had beef carvery which was excellent, unfortunately the service was very slow, two others in my party went for meals of the menu which took over an hour but again excellent.

I was disappointed with the food not very hot and the ham was very fatty and any extras you had to pay separately where has before they came with the meal

Mouth-watering food and lovely staff!

Popped in with two dogs after a walk in Pendarves woods. They seated us slightly away from the main restaurant as we have one very large dog. They were friendly and accommodating. We ended up with small plates as a pseudo meze. Can recommend the garlic mushrooms, baked camembert and bao buns. We left, stuffed full but not without taking two slices of cake with us for later 😁 highly recommend this gem of a place. Liz, Babs, Frankie and Harley Quinn. We'll be back x

Always heaving on Sundays when I go. Which is a good sign! Staff are always working very hard to keep up the masses fed and watered here. The Carvery is so good. Improved on prior years also. The extras you can get of Pigs in Blankets, Honey Parsnips and Cauliflower cheese are really really tasty and I believe worth being added extra side orders. I wouldn't expect to be seated at your booking time, as they're so busy they're bound to have guests overnight their slot. Great value for money which the food. The Desserts are the best, it really a world apart from most other eateries. 100% reccomend it here. They do takeout too

One of the nicest places to go for a meal..

We had the best Carvery I’ve had the meats were absolutely spot on and lots of choice of potatoes and veg all delicious we had desserts but the portions were huge and couldn’t finish them but they too were delicious the staff were all very friendly and service was really good can’t fault our visit at all

Went with a friend and had a very good meal, so good we went back a few days later and the meal was equally good. The staff were friendly and efficient.

Food was good shame about one member of the team at the end of the night who decide to shout at my 4 year to shush and be quite! outside the pub, whilst playing tag with my grandfather. which seemed to disturb her drink and cigarette…. awful behaviour and let the team and restaurant down leaving a bitter taste to a somewhat lovely evening. She did apologise but only once her colleagues pointed out his family was right there and overheard her. Making the apology seem somewhat forced because she got caught not that she any type of remorse

Wow! The food was so tasty, large portions and the dessert cannot when you walk in is out of this world! Be prepared to eat a lot and very reasonably priced! A must visit and would come again if in the area.

Average meal out but over priced for the food quality and service given. When we arrived we were greeted in a warm friendly manner, and swiftly taken to our table. We required a high chair for our little boy, but was told the server would bring one when they came to collect our drinks order. Nearly 15mins went by with no acknowledgement from a server, so I had to locate the high chair myself, which was dirty, with both food and grease stains. The server eventually arrived and took drinks and food orders. The seafood sizzler was very disappointing, only having salmon in, and a large quantity of veg. The server arrived to do the hospitality check after we had finished, so I asked the question about the seafood and what it should include. Unfortunately prawns and the other fish were missing from my "premade" portion (which lead me to believe it wasn't as fresh as I expected for the £18 paid. I was offered a free drink to apologise. We were brought out the dessert menu but the server never reappeared, so I had to grab someone to take our order. The desserts were very tasty and good value for money. I then had to go to the bar to pay the bill as again, the servers had disappeared. Unfortunately won't be returning, as I felt I overpaid for both the food and service provided.

What a hidden gem, great food, good staff

On arrival we was seated in a very noisey area, we requested to move which they sorted which was great, bit of delay in getting drink but it was very busy. Food very nice. Desserts were amazing. Toilets were in need of a good clean I think that was down to unsupervised children as toilet paper was bunged up in most of loos and all over floor.

On arriving felt a little rushed. Some staff good but some of the staff not very people person trained. It was our 40th anniversary the Shire Inn didn't know but due to the way some staff treated us didn't enjoy. The carvery ok but the sauce table a disgrace empty bowels and contents of what had been in bowels all over, some one needed to be on top of this. The man who served the carvery kept say darling which didn't really like. Meal not expensive so cannot complain on this. For a meal out good but to celebrate not really the place to go.
