An overused phrase but this is a hidden gem! The host Sarah is the most welcoming landlady ever! Her partner Alan is an incredible Chef! The FOOD (omg), service, welcome and drinks were all out of this world. Our only disappointment was not being able to try more dishes (honestly!). If you’re in the area please please please try it out. If you’re there on a Sunday you will kick yourself if you don’t try their roast dinner ❤️❤️❤️

Cajun chicken - chicken was tough as old boots. Stir fry duck and vegetables - duck was just edible, it came as large chunks with unrendered skin, it would have been much nicer if the duck meat had been thinly sliced and stir fried. Service was slow and as we had a deadline we didn't have time to complain and await it being recooked, which we know we should have done! Also when we came to pay the bill service was terribly slow. Despite the other good reviews we really could not recommend it on our experience.

I have visited this pub on 4 occasions since the new management has been in, there is no greeting when you arrive, the owners and their friends seem to be more interested in their own private party, on 2 out of the 4 occasions I went there with my children (early weekday evenings) the music has been cranked up loudly and singing has erupted so no conversation can be held so we had no choice but to leave! Very unpleasant, hostile atmosphere, definitely not a family pub any more, too much swearing at the bar, how disappointing for our lovely village, you will find all the locals (and non locals) at the next village where the staff are sober and our custom is appreciated,

Past the Caradon Inn on a Sunday on the way to a dog walk at Starabridge. Decided on the spur of the moment to have Sunday Lunch there. Using the phone number that we noticed as we passed we had no problems booking a place and looked forward to what we hoped was a nice lunch. We were not disappointed. Table was ready on our arrival and we were greeted by a very friendly waitress (Chris) who confirmed that the Caradon Inn was Dog friendly. As expected, there was a good selection of Ale's (unfortunately, we couldn't test the wines as the wife was driving!). We both ordered the roast lamb which arrived promptly, nicely cooked and definitely a full plate. The Landlord came over and chatted to us, rounding of what was a great experience. We both look forward to returning with some friends next time we pop over to Bodmin for a dog walk.

Gary the chef cooked freshly prepared food from a carefully created menu and Di, along with all other staff, was very friendly, polite and amazingly efficient. Nothing appeared to be too much trouble and the whole pub was spotlessly clean. All in all, a great and relaxing experience and we shall certainly keep the Caradon as one of our locals, should we be fortunate enough to eventually settle close by. The Caradon Inn has recently been taken over by a new tenant, who now changed the menu. Some of the dishes remained, some were changed. The option of 2 menus for £ 10.00 has been given up, now only the normal prices are available. Both the lasagne and the roasted vegetables with pasta tasted delicious. On another day we took a fishcake dish and a fried cod dish, - which also were prepared very good but not really special. Because of the inexperienced keeper it's especially the other staff members who do a very good job keeping it going. The rooms are very old and could use some renovation, but they are really clean. In the evening and the morning hours you can hear the traffic passing by, but it's not really a busy road and at night it's really very quiet. The inn is located at a nice location, very near to Bodmin Moor.Due to the lack of experience of the manager (Peter) it's the cleaning lady and the chef in the kitchen who take the lead for breakfast service (and they do very well in that - thumbs up for them !! ).

Being local, and giving benefit of doubt after a previous experience, we decided to take our visiting family to the pub for a Saturday evening meal. The taller waitress showed us to our table, after settling in and she returned we asked what specials there were, what soup was on etc, after several trips to the kitchen we were finally armed. ( she should have it written down or memorized ).After ordering starters and mains we waited contently. The starters arrived, nothing special, except a serious shortage of shrimps in the prawn cocktails, considering the price. The mains we nothing like the old standard. ( same chef, new management? )1. Shortage of chicken in the curry. 2. Steak and Stilton pie dry filling and soggy pastry, ( microwave? ) 3. Gammon steak was the thickness of a rasher of bacon and so over cooked it was inedible. ( meal taken off final bill and a sincere apology from the Smaller waitress. ) The original meals served in the Caradon were of great quality and quantity, whats gone wrong? they were not busy, apparently 2 chefs on,only one other couple in the restaurant area. When inquiring to the location of the Landlord and his good lady, we were informed "that they were upstairs". It was a Saturday Evening they should of be behind the bar and socializing with their customers and dealing with issues instead of leaving it to two young girls.THE TWO MEALS FOR A TENNER SHOULD OF WARNED US!I wonder if we would of been better off, we would of been in pocket.

We were attending a wedding reception at a local venue and needed a place to stay for the night locally.Searching on the web this pub came up as our only real option and to be honest, our expectations were not very high....but I can honestly say we were pleasantly surprised.A lovely country pub with a real fire, our room ( 1 of 3 ) was clean and really comfortable. We also ate there before going out and the food was nice ( our young waitress was particularly charming ) and breakfast, which was included in the price, plentiful and varied. The owners are new, and they seem really keen to make a good impression in their new establishment, as they were very friendly and nothing was to much trouble. So if your looking for a quite night away on the moors, or like us, attending a wedding at the nearby Green, I'd highly recommend this charming little pub as a place to stay.

Having recently reopened and boasting the 'best food for miles', we took some friends out for supper. The service was mediocre and the food was less so. Probably not helped by our expectations - if you tell people something is good, they expect it to be. If this venue had advertised 'expensive pub grub', it may have been more appropriate. If you want burger and chips, sausage and mash, fish and chips etc. this may be just the place for you, but the 'best food for miles' it certainly is not.

Came in on a Thursday night, and the pub had a good atmosphere - not too busy, not too dead. Food was excellent, as it's not very often round here that restaurants (let alone country pubs!) have any half-decent vegetarian options, let alone the 3-4 we had the selection of here. Not sure what a couple of other reviewers are complaining about re: small selection on the menu, there were at least 10+ mains, and signs letting us know it was all locally-sourced produce, which you can't get enough of these days. If you want cheap food, there's a Wetherspoon's in Plymouth...In any case, the veggie burger was delicious, and my wife enjoyed her mushroom risotto. Puddings a little on the pricey side, but can't complain too much. Good selection of ales on the bar - bartender and waitress were very friendly, and my compliments to the landlord and chef! Looking forward to visiting again soon

Amazing food from a traditional Inn, here in holiday with the family and as driving past decided to stop for a bite to eat, well to see the range of fresh fish and shellfish on the menu was a delight. Plenty for the kids too, we decided to have starters and these were lovely, my scallops were cooked to perfection and I followed that with a traditional homemade pie, this was packed with meat and full of flavour. Anyway we all managed three courses and went away very happy and very full, if I wasn't driving I would have sampled some of there gins too, they looked great and served with all manner of garnish

Thank you for a fantastic Sunday dinner! Popped in on the Saturday night for a drink and couldn't believe the food that was coming out of the kitchen so decided to return for food the next day. We weren't disappointed - FANTASTIC Sunday lunch, meat and potatoes cooked to perfection. First time I've ever cleared my plate at a pub. Extensive Gin menu - the Strawberry & Black Pepper Gin was incredible & a fantastic choice on the kids menu, the fish was fresh, the sausages and meat on the roast locally sourced and my 8 year old cleared the gammon and eggs off his plate. The only moan I have is that we do not live closer. The sign out the front "Best Food for Miles" is full of truth.

Found this little gem on the off chance when looking for a Sunday lunch on a recent visit to Cornwall. What a find. Food quality was excellent , clearly fresh cooked produce well presented. The wine menu is not extensive but an good choice available. Would not hesitate to recommend and would not hesitate to return when we are back in Cornwall

It's hard to find a pub that will serve a Sunday roast after 2pm but at the Caradon we phoned out of the blue and found they served until 5pm. Booked with 39 mins notice and had one of the best roast's we've had in ages. All ready recommended to friends and family and already planning a re visit

What a lovely surprise - super food (seared scallops and the fish was very fresh), the deserts were excellent and home made. We indulged ourselves with the interesting gin menu - and finished ourselves off with good coffee! The waitress was very attentive to our requests. So maybe off the beaten track but we will go back !

This pub/restaurant as had great changes since the departure of the previous owners. The bar is well stocked with draft ales, real ciders and a huge selection of various spirits. The food menu is varied and should suit all. We had the Sunday carvery with visiting family. A choice of local tender tasty meats we on offer, served with fresh vegetables. ( awesome). Highly recommend a visit when in the area. A local outside theatre lies opposite set in woods with regular shows. Therefore, a perfect place for a pre-show meal or drinks.

We were really excited to try this new incarnation of the Caradon. We loved going here when the lovely Liz (rip) and co were based here and hoped the new owners would be up to scratch. They have clearly invested a lot in publicity and we had heard on the grapevine that the gastro pub style menu was pretty good and the ingredients were fresh and seasonal.Sadly when we went they had just parted company with their head chef and changed the menu. I am sad to say it was not great. My husband had the Sunday lunch which was ok. The vegetables were cooked well, the meat and potatoes were not so good. I had a veggie burger and it was pretty awful. It was a frozen burger that one could buy from the supermarket and eat at home. Not nice at all. It came with fries which were ok. We also had some chilli olives which were nice and a cheese board which was not particularly pleasant for the price. On the plus side the young waitresses were lovely and the wine list wasn't bad. We are locals and really want this pub to succeed. It seems to be having an identity crisis. Either you are a gastro pub or just another non descript place churning out frozen food. I really hope the owners sort this out. It has so much potential and they have clearly invested a lot. I wish them lots of luck.

We have eaten here twice now since the new owners took on the licence and have been pleased both times. The first time we dropped in on spec and found it quite full. Service was great and our food was lovely. The next occasion (also a Tuesday) it was fairly empty, and we were told the most recent chef had just moved on. A definite change to the menu but nevertheless our food was very good and well-prepared. I had the haddock and chips - the fish was meaty and perfectly cooked. Plenty to choose from on the menu and we are glad to be able to support what promises to be a successful venture at The Caradon.

Noisy kids, overpriced food, half of dessert choices unavailable and to top it off someone slightly "worse for wear" walking from the bar area through the restaurant to the toilet singing,( poorly and loudly ), and dancing!! Only real positive point was the lovely young waitress. The Caradon needs to find its identity, good restaurant with nice clientele or a bar for locals and kids. This is our nearest pub/restaurant but we'd prefer to travel a little further to somewhere more preferable.

First point is that we arrived unannounced and were given a table - positive! Unfortunately (oh I hate that word!) not the standard of food we expected for the amount it cost.Lovely young lady served us - positive! We had all noticed the large haddock and chips going out to other diners and thought we'd have some too! Maybe there were too many requests for this particular dish on this evening as when ours arrived we were stunned by the size of our fish :( It truly looked as though they had halved (may have even been a third!) the original haddock. We had many more chips on the plate so I guess they were to make up for the small fish! Our failure to mention this at the time was I guess due to usual British politeness and not wanting to spoil the ambience of the evening. I might add that the fish was nicely cooked, just that we were served a child's sized portion! For £12.50 each!!We did have other problems too but I don't want to make this seem like an attack as they were sorted at the time.No doubt we will return as the food IS nice. Just that on this occasion we were disappointed.Note to self: don't be so British! Say at the time if you are unhappy/disappointed.I do always give a fair review of our experience and I feel this is fair.

The Inn was shut for a period but has since reopened and is being run by an ex-chef according to the local paper. The décor has be updated and there is a new wood burner installed for the long dark winter evenings. We arrived to find the bar quiet but not for long as a few other people came in just behind us. We sat in the restaurant and read through the menu. There was a fair section of dishes available from daily specials through to steak. We ordered and after a short time the meals came out. From our table we had the burger which was good with huge chips which looked like railway sleepers. Someone else had the sleepers but with a sirloin which was slightly overcooked but was still good. The only downside was that we asked for vinegar for the chips and we received a bottle that was almost empty so after a couple of shakes it was dryer than the chips. The deserts came next and needless to say there was a large dollop of clotted cream which boosted the cholesterol level by a couple points. Great !. Overall everyone enjoyed the visit so would be worth a revisit just to check the menu again.

On both of my visits to Cornwall recently, I've had a lovely experienice in the Tretho Lounge. The food was brilliant, and as a vegan it can be difficult to find a restaurant with a lot of PROPER GOOD
