Very disappointing. Ordered 2 meals both of which we had to complain about. The manager (who actually wasn’t the manager but the managers partner) was very argumentative and rude. He agreed to refund 1 meal as it was completely the wrong thing but argued about my meal and then proceeded to remind us that we were in a pub not a restaurant - said it all really. We left with very bad feeling and would never go back. Such a shame when they have a captive audience in the village. Zero customer service, maybe because we’re not locals but actually if things had been better we’d have eaten in there every night.

The location for the Ship Inn and Willows is lovely a Cornish village with a mix of rural and estuary feel. The pub looks perfectly placed in the environment and certainly tempts you inside. The bar area is fairly traditional and there are a good range of beers and ciders, though the prices are fairly high for the area. They're pretty much comparable with what I'd pay in outer London. We stopped for lunch and were towards the end of the lunch service. Unfortunately it showed. The restaurant space is very pleasant but the food (basic pub fare) didn't quite live up to the setting. My mackerel starter turned out to be smoked (but not on the menu) and the pie was rather heavy on the crust and less abundant with the filling. That said, the food was much more reasonably priced than the drinks. The staff were pleasant but it felt like they were looking forward to the end of service and that impacted somewhat on service. Drinks prices aside, I suspect this venue does much better than the example we experienced.

Good local country pub. Good busy atmosphere. Sat in the bar area, ordered food, had pie and mash. Extremely tasty steak & stilton pie. Good selection of beers as well. Only thing i would say negative is the price. All the food compared to other pubs is very expensive. Think it was £17 for our and mash, although nice very overpriced.

To start with the pros: The Ship has lovely staff, it’s in a great location and is dog friendly. The food is fine, but very much average pub grub - if you are after gastric fare look elsewhere. What struck me as odd was how anti children the landlord appears to be. There are signs all over the place instructing families that children are to remain seated at all times, are not allowed in the bar (even if their dad was just ordering a round of drinks to take outside) and how the beer garden isn’t a ‘kindergarten’. Perhaps they have had a bad experience of being overrun by families, but families with kids should bear in mind before visiting as the expectation is that children should be seen and not heard. On the plus side, (perhaps begrudgingly) they have a kids menu!

On our way back to Newquay from Polperro we wanted to stop for food somewhere. I examined Google maps and saw this place had some good reviews. It meant a diversion but we took a chance. It was a good move. The atmosphere was friendly and, although the restaurant was already quite busy, the landlord found us a table in the pleasant conservatory area. Plenty of choice on the menu and good quality food. Service was also good even though it was a busy time. It's near a decent sized free car park too. I would recommend the Ship Inn at Lerryn but it's probably best to call ahead and book a table.

This is a wonderful pub in the Cornish village of Lerryn. Now I am appealing to diners everywhere : What does one eat in Cornwall? Is it famous for its pasta? No. Celebrated for curries, or renowned for piri-piri chicken? Certainly not. When we visit Cornwall, we want fish, and we want it fresh. Will the menu-planner(s) at The Ship please understand that and act accordingly? Their present menu might have come from any pub in Basingstoke, Bradford or Burnley. If you don't know how to cook the wonderful variety of fish and shellfish that swim in your local waters, leave a message here. I'll come down and give you a masterclass.

A great number of very mixed reviews for thus pub/restaurant. We visited 3 times (once just for drinks) while staying in Lerryn. It is very much a locals pub/restaurant but is vary very welcoming to holiday makers. The landlord & his whole team made us feel very welcome. Couldn’t have a more friendly team of people. The decor is somewhat dated, but that probably adds to its charm. The food was mixed. One evening we were very much impressed with what we had served, however on our 2nd visit the food felt overcooked & overbattered squid/fish & burgers.

I chose the deep fried banana flower in turmeric batter; never having come across this before, this was lovely.

The Ship Inn is hidden away at Lerryn which is near Lostwithiel but is as far from civilisation as you can imagine despite being only 4 miles or so away. The village is a pretty waterside hamlet that does flood the small car park but is extremely pretty when not sheeting down with rain which was the case at New Year 2018. It was also the annual Seagull outboard Regatta which brings many folks to the village and the Ship in particular. I was 'delivering' family to Bocconoc House for a prestigious wedding and they stayed in the pub. The room was small but clean en-suite but not modern in the sense of most B&B;'s. It was the pub that was so terrific with good food, local ale and cider although Stowford Press was on draft thank goodness. The atmosphere was as good as I can remember and both the owner and staff could not do enough for you. Locals chatting, busy and all made you feel welcome. It certainly felt like a smugglers inn and all sorts of images abound. If you want to feel the REAL Cornwall then visit to really enjoy Cornwall as its meant to be. We arrived in Cornwall late and didnt really have time to check anywhere out. We decided to follow the brown sign for The Ship Inn, Who actually gives out these brown signs and when are they reviewed?? After following the brown sign and having an awful experience we will no longer trust the brown signs. This Inn is a typical village pub. Upon entering the whole pub went quiet and stared at us, the lady behind the bar asked if she could help and served our drinks. She made reference to having no music on and asked the customers if they wanted it on. It all seemed a little forced. She was actually the cook. Her husband who was meant to be manning the bar was into his second bottle of red and hadn't seen us enter until we had our drinks. We were shown to or seats and given a menu. The menu had five choices on it. There was a specials board but two of these options had run out. We must have waited a good forty minutes for our food to arrive and when it finally came it was nothing special. We were given frozen chips and it wasn't overly hot. The food was average and over-priced, £10 for sausage, chips and beans!! Frozen chips at that. I would not visit here again and have the replaced the P with a T for the name of this Inn.

We were staying in nearby Couch's Mill and walked just over a mile to get to this pub and it was worth every step! They have a large selection of real ales on tap as well as the usual fare. We spent an afternoon in the beer garden trying as many as we could, before zig-zagging our way back to our house. We went back a few days later for dinner and had another great few hours in the garden eating some fine food, drinking fine beer and genarelly having a great time - even the local dogs joined us for a fuss! The village is small but perfectly formed - there is a small shop, a lovely grass picnic area right on the river, a beautiful stone bridge perfect for arty photographs and even a small charity shop run on an honesty system! A lovely pub and I want to go back!

Quaint village by a river. Middle of nowhere. The ship inn is an oasis. Great selection of local beers. Locally sourced food. Had a great meal here. There was 8 of us. All the food was superb. Staff very friendly and helpful. 60 pounds for starters and mains including drinks. Worth a visit.

Having booked online was unsure what I would find. It's a great location set in a small village along side a river. If not a bit of treak from anywhere. And I must warn you that as with most places don't expect a phone signal. Total black spot. But the ship is a place you would love in your village. Good selection of beer and larger. And the food was excellent. I had room 4 and no WiFi access in this room. And the room was basic but clean Staff and owner where great so we'll worth a visit. Thanks guys

Great location, good selection of beers and cider, pleasant pub garden. Ideal for lunch with a good selection of sandwiches and other pub grub. There's also a more refined menu if you want to spend a little more.

Had a good meal here but the pub is more of a working men's pub rather than a restaurant, However the staff were friendly . Plenty of parking and a fab village.

In a glorious setting at Lerryn, which is a lovely pretty village, but really just a very average local pub.Full of locals enjoying themselves (good) and the first time I've seen dominoes played competitively for a long time. Staff welcoming, though a tad chaotic, but food really pretty poor and sometimes bizarre, it's the first time I've ever been served a cheese sandwich with roast potatoes!

Had a lovely evening, food cooked beautifully by a fantastic, young and very passionate about his food. Which shows in the end product. My wife had scallops, which she said they were the best she's ever had. I had the sirloin served with dolphin nose potatoes, with pea shoot and Parmalat cheese. Cheese board 5 star, chocolate and amaretto pud just as good. Thanks for the great evening

We just popped in for a drink and were delighted to be met with a smile and a 'what can I get you' (as apposed to the often stern appraisal you'd get entering as a stranger to a local pub)Really friendly staff, lovely garden and they even arranged for the sun to arrive for us!

Nice pub with a good welcome but really disappointed with the food. We ordered lasagne and mousaka which were all on the board as being served with salad and chips. They arrived with two roast potatoes each and some cabbage and carrots. Probably the chef wanted to use up leftovers from the Sunday roast but it wasn't a great meal. The lasagne and mousaka were bland. Another of our party had mackerel and chips with salad and this was the only meal as advertised, it looked a lot more appealing. We sat in the tea garden to eat and nobody came to check that our meals were OK. What a shame as the setting is lovely.

This is a lovely traditional friendly pub, but not a good place to eat. My husband and I went here for an early evening supper. I ordered a vegetarian dish and my husband ordered a lasagna. Both were from the daily specials board. When the food came the lasagne was burnt and dried out - my husband told the waiter it was inedible. He came back to ask if he would like some gravy for the dish! We ended up sending it back but by the time it came back I had long finished my meal and my plate had been cleared. In the end we left only paying for one meal. Stick to drinks in this lovely pub!

Nice traditional pub with sunny beer garden. The service was great and the staff were friendly. Typical pub food on the menu. I had a delicious crab salad and my husband had a ploughmans which was huge. The kids menu was varied and the pasta portions good. We had a nice lunch in this idyllic village and we will return.

A brilliant, homely pub serving excellent food and with a great drinks selection. The owners and staff are warm, friendly, and accommodating, and this is a real community pub that thankfully seems to be thriving in its rural setting. We visit Lerryn several times a year and always look forward to having meals at The Ship Inn. The food style is good quality pub grub, not trying to be fancy but all homemade and fresh, with some imaginative options and lots of daily specials. Plenty of local ingredients including seafood. The chips are fantastic. The shiraz is addictive.

We popped in last Thursday for dinner and were warmly welcomed and quickly seated - this is a dog friendly pub and it has a range of decent ales on tap - and quite clearly serves the locals which is always a very good sign!We opted for Moules and a cheese ploughman's.....I think my husband found the Moules a bit bland and the promised baguette turned out to be slices of bread. My ploughman's was better - considerable brownie points for a delicious chilli chutney but minus points for no dressing on the salad bits! The last Thursday of the month is music night - so they had a band on doing a range of folk, blues and country - quite pleasant!

We stopped by this place after doing a coastal walk near Fowey. We were hungry and were attracted towards this place after seeing a board outside advertsing that they did vegetarian food. When we walked through the front door it was evident that this place was very much a 'local place'. The bar staff were very friendly although we had to sit in the pub as the restaurant room at the rear was full up. I ordered the plaice and vegetables and was asked what type of bread I would like (although I never did get any bread)! My wife had a vegetarian rissotto which she described as being nice. My meal was quitel tasteless really. The best thing about this place was the good selection of local Ales. We decided to have a dessert. My wife had an Eton mess (which she enjoyed) although the sticky toffee pudding that I had was quite dry and tasteless.

A lovely place to eat, great atmosphere I've been here three times and all have been good food. Service has always been good, prices are a little steep but then nothing else in the vicinity so they have the market place wrapped up, worth a visit and the river and views are to die for. A Cornish hidden gem.

A lovely place (maybe could do with a little update on decor?)

Although late in the afternoon, and the Chef had finished for the day. I fancied a cream tea, but could not eat a full two scone one. I was given a beautifully cooked scone, warm with piles of clotted cream and jam. My husband took a photo of it. This is one of the best cream teas I have had. The waitress was lovely and friendly, nothing too much trouble. We hope to visit again for a meal when we are down that way.

This is a pub that sells drinks not food. I can only comment on a pint of Tribute being £3.35 at weekends and £3.15 on weekdays (dynamic pricing). A great pint at an amazing price being almost £2 cheaper than where I live!! The pub also shows a lot of sport having 5 or more massive TVs dotted about. Always good to find such a venue. A few tables have a good view of the harbour but most don’t There is also a pool table

This pub has such amazing views and so much potential, we stopped in a very quiet pub on a Sunday afternoon for a drink and snack after a walk but were very quickly ready to go. We were pounced on at the door asking what we wanted, then despite the pub being nearly deserted were told to sit by a table of two families with noisy toddlers. We were then told that we couldn't order with the staff at the table despite there being a number of them or at the bar where there were more staff despite them clearly having multiple tills. We had to order on our phones or on the mcdonalds kiosks. All very odd, like some sort of covid hangover where the owner has decided that they would prefer to not have to speak to the customers, had my children not been so thirsty and tired i would have taken the family elsewhere. The qr code we had to scan wasn't printed properly so that took as while, there is no phone reception so you have to join their wifi which is slow. After registering for their website trying to navigate the order webpage takes time as it hasn't been very well designed or mobile optimised, clunky and again slow. After about 15 minutes i managed to place an order on my phone. A few minutes later before the drinks came a bowl of reheated £5 chips and a handful of sauce sachets, after a few more minutes some tiny cups of tea in glass mugs and some £4 kids drinks. No check back, no upselling, nothing, we would have spent more had it not been so painful. The older generation wont cope with all of this for a cup of tea. Busy carpark but no apparent customers, i should imagine full of tourists in season, this place would stand no chance without the views or against some competition. I honestly don’t remember when i last felt so uncomfortable in a pub, a great example of rip off Cornwall.

I cannot understand the bad reviews - we had a truly lovely meal. It was great to finally find a chip shop that caters (in a friendly manner!) for those who need gluten free food - and both the “normal” and GF meals were delicious. I also lucked in as I was given a piece of broken fish to eat whilst we waited for our order! Lovely staff, delicious food - top marks.
