I have never experienced such an apalling attitude from someone working in hospitality. We were an utter inconvenience to this member of staff, who is apparently the manager? I've had some poor customer service experiences in my time, but this was on another level, there was just no reason for her to be so rude & aggressive towards us; we were in a pub buying a round of drinks at the bar, that's it. This was our last drink of the night after completing the Shine Night Walk for Cancer Research & after such a positive & uplifting event, this was more than a let down. Absolutely dreadful attitude towards customers; her mam (the owner apparently) must be so proud. Do yourself a favour if you're thinking of visiting & go to The Cluny over the road instead, or anywhere else other than here!

I travelled down from Edinburgh to do the Shine Walk for cancer. After the event we daundered around to this pub to be greeted by the most horrendous bar staff. I ordered a wine and there was a small bit in the bottom. I asked to have it filled up, to be told, there’s no more in the bottle!!! The bar manager/owner was particularly rude. When one of the company asked to speak to the manager, she said “that’s my mam”. Well her “mam” needs to get her daughter in check. When she left after the bar closed she gave us all the finger! Won’t be back EVER

Paid £3.80 for a Diet Pepsi! That’s a tad expensive … you can get a 2L bottle for less than £2.50. Not the best service either from the bar staff, they were gossiping between them when I went to order & made me feel like I was rude by interrupting them. Save it for after work ladies and be somewhat professional please.

Great service and an all-vegan food menu. Excellent selection no/low alcohol beer options alongside regular real ales and bar favourites. We went for the chicken burger and the fish and chips, both were decent - the ‘chicken’ seitan was a touch dry as were the mushy peas however the chips were amongst the best I’ve ever had. The house slaw was also a highlight, possibly sriracha-mayo based, tangy, crunchy, fresh and flavourful. Great, cozy atmosphere inside with an open beer garden out front for sunny afternoons. Would definitely come again!

I have been coming to this pub since Lorna and John owned it back in the 1990s never had any bother until recently. Staff were rude, barred 15 people because of one persons bad choice. Took the drinks we bought from the establishment and to move us along, tbf they should have let us finished. I have since spoken to past regulars and it seems that it’s the skinny bar made with a Bob who seems to have an attitude problem, none considering for disabled people at all. Would not recommend going if your above 30+ this place is clearly designed for students only

Rude blonde lady barked at us " we're closed " then ignored us to chat to another member of staff. First impressions matter. We always visit for food but portions have been getting much smaller. The most depressing thing I’ve ever eaten. We ordered the “pizza” all food is vegan, so was expecting a nice saucy American style pizza. However the bread was far too crunchy there was a sprinkle of vegan cheese and a bit of sauce on top. As it cost me £15 for 4 slices I felt obliged to eat it but was not enjoyable. However nice atmosphere and dog friendly, and nice cold pints. Would just try something different on the menu.

I have history with this venue. I used to come here as a child. I remember the jukebox and the fun we had here. I was charged £19.50 for a beer and a burger. But the burger was a slab of burned nothingness, chips were decent. Staff seemed full of themselves and kind of angry. I think you should be happy with all the money you’re taking for being one of the few vegan only venues (capitalist) in Newcastle and charging so much for such a simple thing. I would have demanded a refund but the bar staff would probably put me in the burgers.

I was hopeful because the vegan menu sounded lovely. I had the 'pork' and apple roast dinner, the 'pork' had the texture of gritty spam and tasted only of sage, the mashed potato was hard on the top , the roast potatoes were so over cooked that they were essentially crisps accompanied by greens that had clearly been boiled since Christmas. The plate was drowned in gravy. £21 for a mess on a plate with a tiny rose lemonade. Eeeeek and bawk. We went indoors as it started to rain. The bar lady said excuse me on her way past the stool I was sat on, didn't give me time to respond, flounced through the ample space and said "so you're not going to move then?" Would not recommend.

Vegan roast executed to an incredibly high standard. Seitan "pork" and trimmings were all delicious. However, striking the balance of being satiated AND having a delicious meal as a vegan it still just missed the mark. I'm not sure when two roast potatoes and three carrots became the norm, but truly a bit more veg on the plate (usually the cheapest component) would elevate this to perfection. This being said, it's still by the far the most superior vegan roast I've had in the area, and the beers and service were also exceptional.

Visited specifically for the vegan food. Pub was quite busy and had a good atmosphere. I had the vegan fish, chips and mushy peas, the tofu fish portion was quite small but good quality and very fishy tasting, mushy peas were terrible as cold, dry and crumbly which was such a shame as flavour was decent, chips were nice enough. Had the sticky toffees pudding & ice cream for dessert, it was very tasty just let down by the fact the sticky toffee pudding was barely luke warm. We had finished our drinks and the children were finishing their ice creams outside but she was threatening and argumentative when asking us to leave as we had now finished drinks. All 4 children were deeply upset by the experience, days before Christmas. Ouseburn is such a great area for families but this pub needs avoiding, staff need training and I would suggest they work on their empath, communication skills and friendliness. I’ve visited the pub many times, I’ve supported it, recommending it for vegan meals. I was aware of past bad reviews, but continued to visit because the food is pretty good. But today, I visited with the dog, meeting a couple of friends. While at the bar,I said to my dog ‘quiet girl’ (she wanted a treat). I was served, then the bar person told me that she didn’t like what I’d said to the other bar person (who wasn’t actually serving me). I explained that I was talking to the dog and was told that people are often disrespectful to staff. I responded, saying that I understood because I work in a bar. They acknowledged this, but didn’t offer an apology. On leaving, feeling unhappy about this, I approached the bar to say I wasn’t happy about the way I’d been spoken to. I also mentioned that a beggar was bothering people outside, but they said they knew him and it was ok. It wasn’t ok for our group to, apparently, other customers. I once more said that I’d spoken to my dog (and that I mostly call her ‘girl’ (because she’s a girl). The owner then approached and asked me to leave. Well, I was leaving anyway, so that wasn’t a problem. As many people have already said, she was pretty rude. The staff weren’t very customer focused, hence my need to raise my discontent. I run a bar, I make sure we give great customer service. I couldn’t see this sort of thing happening in our bar. I don’t like giving bad reviews, but the staff weren’t bothered when I repeatedly pointed out that I was talking to my dog, not the bar person. The dog’s also pretty well known in Newcastle bars; unfortunately, she won’t be visiting this one again.

We didn't book and the restaurant was very busy when we arrived. Staff were helpful and quickly found us a table. Food was served quickly and enjoyed by all. The service was excellent from all the staff we came in contact with. A lovely evening was enjoyed.
