Popped in for a work lunch, a bunch of us landed and the staff were great. Food was tasty and good quality.

Lush food, really affordable, good drink, can't ask for more

I brought my team of 15 people here for a team bonding session. We all had food and the food was lovely, hot and fresh. The service was excellent and friendly staff. The food came out quickly and hot and everyone enjoyed.

Came here for a meal with my team after volunteering. Staff were amazing and welcomed us (baring in mine the was 15 of us). We loved the food and will definitely come back again.

Had a great day at the Duke yesterday for some food and to watch the match. The staff are very friendly and all worked extremely hard to make sure everyone got served. Ordered burgers and lasagne at dinner time. Food arrived in good time, everything hot and was really nice. Would recommend this bar for food and atmosphere.

We came here at 12pm understanding it was a match. We asked for a table and were told we had to eat and leave as the table was booked. So after hastily putting in an order our food arrived luke warm, we weren't asked about anything once getting the our food. When we went to leave we tried to tell the staff about the issue and were just looked at funny. Everything that arrived was on a bed of onions, this included gammon and chicken. We will never advice anyone to go here for food as it was totally inedible

Family of 8 celebrating 60th birthday. Very busy match night but young staff were friendly and quick. Manageress assisted chef. The food was good value, tasty. Prices were reasonable

Great atmosphere and the staff are lovely. It was karaoke night so people where singing their hearts out and it was lovely to see people enjoy themselves after a long week

Otra noche fantástica en el Duque. Este es nuestro 3er año de reserva de nuestra fiesta de Navidad (20 empleados). La comida era increíble, el personal no podía hacer lo suficiente para asegurarnos de que tuvimos una buena noche. Hice la experiencia aún mejor, ya que había un cantante allí y a nadie le importó que nos levantáramos y bailáramos. Gracias a Mandy y su equipo por hacer nuestra noche especial.

Nunca he estado aquí por siglos, ya que la última vez que la comida era pobre tenía que enviar de vuelta. Lo mismo de nuevo el nyt tomó siglos para la comida, entonces estaba frío y mi plato estaba mal artículos en él . . Solía ser nuestro lugar favorito para comer. No sé por qué ha bajado colina abajo. Todavía me encanta el personal, aunque todo tan amable y servicial.

Vinimos a desayunar con Santa y cumplió con las expectativas. . fue excelente. Personal amable, buena comida, buena experiencia. Sin duda volveremos de nuevo.

Breakfast with Santa was amazing as always for the kids. Always loads of crafts for the kids and Santa was great as always. Thanks to Mandy, always gets the kids excited and makes a big effort with them. Breakfast was lush. Big potion, me and the kids were stuffed. Done it for a few years and will defo be booking again. El personal era muy amable y acogedor. Muy divertido, lleno de alegría y el lugar se ve increíblemente decorado para el período de Navidad. El gerente Mandy fue muy divertido e hizo que nuestra experiencia valiera la pena estar allí. Recomendaría encarecidamente una visita al duque de Wellington kenton.

Visité con mi familia para un lugar para almorzar y nos recibió el GM Mandy que nos hizo sentir muy bienvenidos, su servicio al cliente era excepcional y nos pareció que el establecimiento era muy servicial. Ella nos informó de los próximos eventos recientes y tuvimos una gran charla. Sin mencionar que la comida era fabulosa, asequible y oportuna. 10 / 10 en general; volverá pronto.

I visited with my family for a spot of lunch and we were greeted by the GM Mandy who made us feel extremely welcome, her customer service was outstanding and we found the establishment to be very accommodating. She informed us of recent upcoming events and we had a great chat. Not to mention the food was fabulous, affordable and timely. 10/10 all round; will be returning soon.

We just had our wedding afternoon here, and loved it, with special thanks to Mandy and Jackie, while the decore could be better, Jackie was fabulous, worked so so hard, had a fab time, loads of food left over, will definitely be back.

The manager was informed of my poor experience at the pub. Outcome was unsatisfactory and disapointing as I was not informed of anything being done. Unsafe venue and had leaking sinks for weeks not repaired. Service wasn't good and I didn't feel safe due to a couple people that regularly attend the venue. I will never return to this bar again as the experience was so bad.

My last experience at this pub was absolutely abhorrent, however, it does have decent food and a few tvs, and a pool table. Just don't expect good service, and be careful striking up conversation with some of the regulars.

I attended today one of many times I have been and normally great, however today was a bad experience making me not want to return. First I ordered the new tikka sizzler I was told when ordering there was no Tatar Tots but I could have chips that was fine. About 5 mins after ordering I was then informed there was no masala sauce so maybe this item should have been removed from the till at this time. I also ordered a bbq beef rib that is right next to the tikka sizzler on the menu. When the food came it came as a slow cooked rib Sunday dinner when I approached the member of staff that I belive was the manger she informed me I ordered ring and that I pointed and the Sunday dinner however why would I be on a different page when both the meals I wanted were right next to each other. The staff member then argued saying I ordered wrong but said we can change it. Once changed it was brought over with no apology and slammed down! The tikka sizzler chicken meat was dry and well over cooked a very disappointing visit to somewhere we normally go and have a nice meal!

In pub last night to meet up with friends. Music was so loud that we couldn't have a conversation. We all left early because of the noise.

Brilliant food steak cooked to perfection but waiting staff are shocking we ordered starters and mains we told them to wait till we where finished our starter before cooking our mains our mains instantly come out the second we said we where done with our starters the jacket potato was freezing and no one come over to ask how our food was we eat our steak left the rest and left. Apart from the waiting staff who openly where saying they didn't want to be there the place is good pub

Love this place! The atmosphere is excellent, the staff are incredibly friendly and Mandy goes above and beyond to make the experience an enjoyable one. Whilst we only had drinks, which are reasonably priced, I was impressed with the quality of food that kept coming out. Will definitely be back!!

Was here over the weekend with the family. Food was excellent and the staff couldn't do enough for us. Family friendly and lots of choice. Would definitely recommend.

I went in with my kids during the England match, having food and drinks, everything about the service was fantastic, even though they were extremely busy. Faye made sure that my time was good and my kids were well looked after, the scampi was so good and i thoroughly enjoyed my visit, would come again. Special thanks to Connor and Faye for making my visit good

Went to the pub to use a Green King burger voucher. The outside was a disgrace with rubbish everywhere- I thought twice about risking the food. Inside it was empty at 6pm - couldn't use the voucher - staff were okay btw. So glad when we walked away - never again will I want to eat in a rubbish tip. Went to the Blsck Bull a clean environment with good food

First time coming to this pub and it was OK. Big towards the back and some outside space and parking which isn't obvious from the front. There isn't table service so go up to the bar to order. The food was OK, a solid burger and chips. I would go back. The staff were very friendly and helpful. A good local pub with no frills or twills.

Please please do something about your toilets . They are disgusting and you can smell them in the bar area. Worst ive seen this pub in the 25 years ive drunk here. Bring back Barras.

Lovely pub, nice and quiet when I went. Service was good and nice food, really friendly staff. Only suggestion I have is regarding keeping an eye on the caddies on the tables with the condiments in, I checked a couple of tables to get salt and there was odd cutlery. Would visit again if in the area!

The staff were very friendly and approachable, especially engaging well with our 2 year old and making her very welcome. The only real negative was when the 2 year old needed a wee and asked her daddy to take her he found the disabled toilet seat was cracked and male toilets weren't very clean and asked me to take her instead.

They changed menu and prices increased.

It boggles my mind that you guys can run this business yet do not know how to replace the battery in your malfunctioning burglar alarm. This alarm has been blaring over and over again for the past several weeks at night. This is truly appalling. Hundreds of people—old and young, and very young, healthy and no so healthy, and very frail—are now denied the essential need to sleep through the night. How dare you!

Called in for a few beers when walking dog,probably the least friendly staff I've encountered for some time, young lady serving could not wait to get rid of us ,granted it was quiet but was made to feel awkward asking to be served, Will most definitely not be returning!

Friendly, faded traditional pub, past its best days but worth a visit for the food and drink offerings.

Booked a table for Sunderland v Newcastle. Table provided was first class, right in front of the big screen. The lady working behind the bar greeted us and explained fully how the day would work with no coffee being served to help keep the flow of drinks going, completely fair. Food ordered on the app and arrived quickly despite the bar being packed. Viewing experience of the match was superb with volume up and all screens in sync so no delays spoiling the game. Top class service from The Duke.

Please be warned this establishment claims to be dog friendly, however, IT IS NOT as my husband and I found out to our gross embarrassment when we visited in December 2023, upon entering we were told dogs are only welcome in a small area within the pub itself which is absolutely useless if the establishment is busy, please also be aware that the dog cooked chicken breast was in our opinion quickly three quarters defrosted when served we would not let our dogs eat it for fear of salmonella poisoning.

They were charging a third less than the average Christmas day lunch in Gosforth. It was a well organised day. Our table was ready on arrival - meals pre ordered. Had a drink at our table, then the starters arrived after a few minutes - fantastic Mains came with no rush - so you could savour the happy atmosphere- The mains were sumptuous, well cooked, and pipping hot. Puddings you could die for. Nothing was too much bother for the staff - They were fantastic and attentive Well done to the management

What a great family pub this is, I have had day drinks, night drinks, family food and birthdays here upstairs in the function room. Staff go above and beyond to help you with any needs you may have. Big shout out to the manager mandy, and the team for All you do to make this pub a great place to visit, with and without children. 5***** +

The only reason the food got 4 stars instead of 5 is because they had run out of some items and no choice of diet soft drink apart from Pepsi max.

Nice place to drink but the meal wasn't the best

The duke of wellington could take some real tips on customer service from other pubs in their franchise. The manager is just rude, has no interest in customer service, the food was really dry and badly cooked, the drinks are over priced £3+ for a coke, it's diabolical given the overall experience. Student discount refused, they choose not to allow it. It's a complete shambles that place I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Good quality, traditional feeling british pub!

Always a fun night in the duke! You never know what drama is going to be going on at certain times of the night but that is just part of the fun of a night out isn't it, so why not get a night out at the duke instead of paying for a taxi to town, it's as much fun but on a budget 👍🏻

I've raved about this pub to everyone I know to the point I think they find me annoying now 😂 The food is brilliant value for money. Not sure where else you can get a sharer steak with an entire baked camambert to dip and enough chips and waffle fries to feed an army for £25. The flat breads are also lush and so is the bbq sharer. My hubby has also had the burgers there a couple of times and really enjoys them. We always sit outside and the employees are happy to bring our food out to us every time and some of them will even bring our drinks outside of they're not too busy. The outside seating area is huge and it is absolutely lovely. The bar staff are so friendly! I think we have been there at least once a week for the last couple of months. It is a little bit of a treck for us since we don't drive but I will happily take a taxi to spend a few hours in what has become my new favourite pub. Coming from someone who doesn't drink often at all that's saying something, but I am happy to come and spend time in the sun and have a berry punch. Looking forward to seeing you guys again shortly.

Excellent service, especially from Connor who was polite, friendly and would do anything for us and attended to our every need. Food was excellent.

The pub looks nice. Large carpark. Large beer garden, however, could not sit there as you havent got a smoke free zone. The flagged area could and under the gazebo could be nonsmoking but not. Several fag dumps and plants that are dying. My dog ate a tab dump. Need to water your plants. I will return when your outside caters for families and non smoking people. Also your toilets are terrible!

Really good place for a good day/night out

I like the pub. But I find it hard to enjoy my time when I call in. It's very hard to get a conversation with bar staff or management. But that's Green King for you Not the best customer friendly company out there. ( I bet they ain't struggling as much as there management)..

Called in at the weekend for the first time in many many years, and the first things that hits you is the smell, we found and table and got drinks the oh so friendly staff (not) it was if they were doing us favour. Unfortunately we had to go to the toilet, one word, "rancid" the whole place needs to be deep cleaned, never would I go back or advise anyone to go

Staff were friendly but food was poor quality, lacking quantity and overpriced for what you got. Pub food can either be good quality, cheap, or decent quantity. If you do none of these then it simply isn't worth it. Drinks were also on the more expensive side. Toilets were in a poor state (even for a pub), badly in need of tlc and a deep clean. Don't think we'll be returning which is a shame as this could be our local.

Lovely food. Just as we asked for it. Had to wait but didn't expect more on mother's day. I can't eat cream so said no cream on apple pie. Wasn't expecting extra apple. It filled dish. We All enjoyed the food + drinks. Will go again.

Visited a few times last year and I always had a good experience. A family friendly bar with a great menu with decent vegetarian options, a massive beer garden, good varied selection of lagers on draft, pool table and many TV's for the football. Definitely worth a visit.

It's a canny place, great parking, a nice place to sit outside and it's bigger than you think inside. Beer selection is uninspired and the hand pull was flat suggesting oxidised beer or dirty lines. If there's a next time it will be something off the shelf and a mixer or something out the fridge

Very reasonably priced,delicious meals. The biggest steak and ale pie I've had in a pub. Staff couldn't do enough for us. First visit but definitely not the last. I went back the following Saturday and had the nicest pub fish and chips ever. Really good quality fish and loads of mushy peas.

My last review was 2 stars a few years ago. Today I've updated this to 4 stars. Food was good for the price. Outside beer garden was canny and friendly staff. I also liked the app to order food. You just need to sort the toilets out.

Staff were really rude and moody says it’s a kid friendly pub whilst my kids were playing round they kept complaining to us about them! Staff always staring at my 16 year old daughter having a drink with her meal as if we were bad parents!

Decent local pub, we've always enjoyed going there, tasty food at a fair price and helpful staff.

Went today with my husband and son for dinner, tried to order 2 16oz steaks but was told they only have the 9oz steaks which is fair enough if they have ran out. I ordered the 9oz steak with the hunters topper and asked for it cooked medium well, I also asked for it to be on a plate instead of a sizzler and completely plain, no tomato or anything else with it. Husband also wanted his on a plate and also cooked medium well. When the food came they were both on the sizzler plates with a tomato and loads of onions underneath the steaks. The steaks were no where close to being medium well and were very chargrilled and actually burnt on the edges. No one came back to ask if everything was OK with our food like in most places. It wasn't busy either so no excuse to not look after your customers. My husband actually said when he came back from ordering i don't think she was listening so God knows what we're gonna get. Very disappointed. I didn't send the food back as I thought if they can't get a simple steak and chips order correct the first time then they have no chance a second time. After scraping all the onions off we did eat the food but it wasn't the best as it was quite burnt. We ordered desserts and I asked for chocolate cake with custard, it came on a plate, which I find very strange. Custard is particularly difficult to eat from a plate!! I have been to lots of Greene King pubs for food but definitely will not be coming back to this one!

Had a lovely time at the Duke of Wellington. There was a lovely server called Taylah as she asked me to type it as. She was a hard worker, cleaning tables and serving food and very friendly to my table. All of the staff were great but I wanted to pass my regards onto this girl. We look forward to the next time we visit here.
