It was fairly quiet for a lunch time food was fine would go again

Great place to watch the football, great atmosphere and friendly staff!

I cannot praise this place enough. The manager, Rob, went above and beyond to allow us to watch the football game we wanted in the pub, even ringing round the sister pubs for us to see if they could get it. The food was great, really flavourful. All of the staff were so friendly, answering all of our questions and the service was so quick! Lovely pub with a great atmosphere!

Men's toilets smelt of stale drains and urinal blocks. Looked clean enough, just smelt. Ate the chicken shemer flat bread thing, omg it went straight through me in about an hour, tummy didn't feel better for a few days after.

This is a great spot for grabbing a drink and socialising with friends, we especially love to attend the quizzes ran here which are always great fun! Ethan who works on bar is always very friendly and gives excellent service!

Hi I went to the Lonsdale and was pleasantly surprised by Ethan Ive’s contribution to society. He really works hard, but could do with a shave. I will be visiting again.

Went for the euro match England vs Netherlands. It was an amazing atmosphere and the staff were fantastic! Especially the bar staff, pouring drinks fast and well. Will go again!

There is no service, you have to order at the bar. We had some fish and chips and pork steak, for the price we paid it was ok, but nothing special. We visited on Friday, the place was quite crowded and noisy, I recommend it more for drinks not for a dinner.

Good pub, good food, good beer. Prices have increased, but so has everywhere. Food is nice, there's plenty of choice, meat, vegetarian and vegan options available, and they usually have a deal on the meals, too. There's plenty of seating, further upstairs. All sports are shown here on a plethora of tvs and projectors, there's bandita and a quiz machine too. Can get busy (especially on match days or quiz nights) due to it being in a student dense area. All in all, it's a proper good pub.

I really like this pub. This pub is my favourite pub. The lasagne is to die for. I cannot overstate how much i like this pub. It’s a really really fun and nice pub. I went with my friends and they also think it’s a really nice pub. I like the tables. I also like the chairs. Furthermore, I really the guinness, and all the pints.

Brilliant bar with brilliant service, been there many times and is comfortably the best bar is Jesmond. 5 stars all round

The bar has a decent pool table, darts board and decor. The tables are nicely laid out and the pub is situated close to the metro station. However, on my last visit a couple of the off-duty staff became over intoxicated and shed a bad light on the pub. Drinking off-duty can be ok, so long as it's responsible and in moderation, however, I've found some of the newer staff employed to have a lack of discipline and one off-duty member of staff made a very insensitive comment. Also, the manager told me that he was soon getting rid of coors on draft, therefore the only cheap option for lager drinkers is Carling at around £3.80. He said he was going to replace coors (£4.75), with a beer matching the other pints, meaning that the price will be a minimum of £5.40! So for lager drinkers, it's either Carling or a minimum of a £5.40 pint! With the more expensive draft lagers being up to around £6.50! I for one don't particularly enjoy the idea of a pint creeping up to the cost of half an hours minimum wage when there used to be a decent option which was at least 65p less. I'll take my custom elsewhere in future.

Sunday dinner is not available. Wasted time & money on drinks whilst we ordered, once the drinks were made and in our hands they told us they no longer do Sunday dinner despite still being on the menu in the venue and online.

We booked this event for a work night out after a lot of our remote colleagues joined us in Newcastle for an in-person workshop. The Lonsdale ticked all of our boxes for an evening venue: close enough to our office that we could all share cars/taxis to get there after-hours, close to the metro for transport home or to hotels once a few pints were consumed, and a lovely atmosphere with more to do than just sit and drink. The evening was absolutely fantastic, no small share of which was down to the teams working that evening. Gary and his colleagues welcomed us with warmth and kept us in high-spirits the whole night. Opening the upper bar for us made such a difference and we are very appreciative. The interactive darts and pool table were a boatload of fun too, keeping us entertained for hours on end. I highly recommend. On top of the venue itself being perfect for all of our needs, the staff that night were able to handle a few last minute orders for food (an administrative error on my part) and nobody was left disappointed. All the cooking was phenomenal and I had lots of positive feedback throughout the whole night. Everyone complimented the choice in venue and I imagine that The Lonsdale will be high on our list of options for similar gatherings in the future. Please pass on huge gratitude to Rob, Gary, and the team members whose names I didn't catch who were responsible for supporting our chaos on the nighttime! I'm hopeful we will return soon. 🙂 The Lonsdale was a fantastic place to hunker down, enjoy some drinks, and have a great time without the hustle-and-bustle of the toon, the loud music of a more intense establishment, nor the pressure to move around a bunch of bars. 10 out of 10.

Great pub for live sport currently showing all the televised football, rugby, cricket, golf, etc. Student discount of 20% for the academic year when you donate £1 to charity (one-off donation for the whole year discount). Fair prices and a good atmosphere across two levels.

Superb pub in the heart of Jesmond....always an excellent atmosphere with really good staff. Huge cross section of established regulars, local students, tourists and newbies. Excellent for Sport, all the big events are always on and there are huge televisions everywhere you look so it's never an issue to be able to watch everything. Our group come here all the time and we couldnt recommend it more. Enjoy.

I used to like this place but not anymore all the tvs apart from the one above the bar had rugby on the one above the bar England u21 final last night on music was so low I asked for the tv to be turned over after the rugby had finished to the England u21 game the manager said I can’t people asked for specific programmes on which had finished so we’re sat there watching a game of rugby from 2014 that not one person was interested in and music was still so low they need to get the staff out of there and get better ones in it’s a disgrace all there interested in are themselves not the people who go in every day spending money

Visited this once great pub Saturday night 27th May. It was more like walking into a disco with loud thumping music,is this really necessary? We went elsewhere so we could hear each other talk .

Had a lovely meal with the in-laws, and played some interactive darts. Louise in particular was a massive help and gave us great service the entire night.

Racist!!!!!! I was part of the group mentioned in one of the other reviews where they denied us entrance at 2pm on our leaver's day. The Lonsdale are claiming in their response to my friend that we all tried to get one person to buy us drinks which is just blatantly not true as the majority of us are Muslim, so we were clearly not going to drink. They also said in the response to my friend that "When a bunch of underage kids come into a venue, we turn them away." Numerous people from our group showed ID to prove that we are over 18. A group of our white friends, also our age, were let in without ID with no adult present may I add, and they were also served drinks without being IDed. And we didn't have a grown adult to ensure our behaviour, but neither did our group of white friends, but they didn't seem to have a problem getting in. The only difference between our group who was turned away rudely, and the group allowed in before us was our race. We are all the same age and came to The Lonsdale all under the same circumstances so I have all reason to believe that the reason my friends and I (People Of Colour) weren't allowed in without ID but other groups our age (white) were is RACISM. Stop twisting the story, and from this encounter alone, I think we know enough about your behaviour to call you racist.

Came in as a group and got told to leave immediately if we didn’t all have Ids at 2pm on Friday may 12th, we came back a few minutes after as half of us did have Ids and we even showed the staff, and explained we didn’t even want to be served alcohol as must of us are Muslim and we’re just here to meet up with friends for a leavers day. Says online as long as an adult is present we were allowed in before 7pm but even after showing Ids were kicked out since “we all didn’t have ids” whilst a group of our friends who arrived earlier were allowed in and didnt have to show id AND were served alcohol. I hate to say it’s due to racism but I don’t see any other reason why a group of white people our age were allowed in with no ids and our group of poc were immediately told to leave though no rules stated we have to. My friend also left a similar review and got a response saying we “tried to get the same person to buy us drinks” and “there was no adult to ensure our behaviour” which is just lies, as we didn’t even try to get drinks as we were kicked before we were even allowed to find our friends or a table and as I said previously we did show proof of id that some of us were above 18.

Racist! Me and my friends went to celebrate school ending. Most people from our year were coming here and we wanted to see everyone. A group of my white friends went in before us, they weren't asked for I.D and were allowed in (and served alcohol despite some being underaged). We come in straight after, most of us People of Colour; all of us ID’s asked for (half of us had ours), those who didn’t have theirs were turned away. It was mid day (around 2:00) in broad daylight, we just wanted some food with our friends. We explained the situation but the man was very rude, blunt and turned us away. The worst part is I read a review in which the owner reply’s explaining they let under 18s in until 7pm. Therefore, there can be no other explanation other than racism. In the 21st Century? Absolutely disgusting and ruined our last day.

Cannie little pub 2 mins walk from west Jesmond metro station. Great atmosphere, friendly helpful staff. Clean tidy and so we're the toilets. Wheelchair accessible entrance and toilet. Not bad prices for drinks. Lovely cocktails. Didn't have food on this visit but did browse through menu and think I might be back to try the fudge cake, Maybs share with my 8 year old grandson lol. Sporty bar, with few TVs and pool table and darts board upstairs. I noticed someone playing scrabble from behind the bar also. Will I return and recommend, YES😊

Got to love coming to The Lonsdale, Mint Location opposite the Metro. Perfect Cocktails now being served, I rave about my Garibaldi to my friends. Can't wait for the sun sp we can enjoy Mojito's in the sun.

I get the queue system and works very well- it’s looks longer that it is! Staff brilliant, seating optional, pick a spot and why not! But QR code doesn’t work- heard on the grape vine it’s been turned off- having that, you’d expect a menu spread out somewhere- NOWT! So re-lined up and asked and they were in a box x Emma, diamond exchanged my diet pint for full f@t coke no issues- also took my order within the later 23mins of service. What disappointed me was acting manager gave the look of Medusa for handing a GP, you know General public and menu out of the box that was just laid on the side… 10/10 for staff and service, o 0/10 for allowing management to see their disgust!

A decent pub for when sports events are on. Mainly for younger people and students at night. The food is the kind of fast food etc that arrives at your table in five minutes if you like that sort of thing, the beer is good enough - especially for lager - and the staff are friendly.

My partner and I popped in to the Lonsdale for food on a whim and we were so glad we did! A lovely barmaid, Abi apologised after we ordered our food, informing us that it would be a wait as it was so busy. We didn't mind, as we were both settled in watching the Rugby! Barely any time later Abi arrived with 2 delicious plates of Sunday lunch! Our plates were completely clear, I can highly recommend the vegetarian tart, it was complemented perfectly with the Yorkshire pudding, roasties and veg! My partner's roast beef and turkey was cooked perfectly and he thoroughly enjoyed it. Huge compliments to the Chef and the very polite Barmaid. We will certainly be back.

been drinking here for 20 years, my dad played footy for the pub team 40 years ago, old and new its a great pub and always has been, its own vibe in Jemsond, the refurb is quality, really well done and much needed I was in here for few world cup games and the atmosphere was top draw. whether with your pals or family and kids, always made to feel welcome

I visited here earlier this year, I live in South Shields and fancied exploring Jesmond. What a beautiful pub this is. I was even in awe at the toilets! Definitely visiting again.

I booked the Chrstmas Meal yesterday for nine of us including myself! The Staff were very attentive and with it being the World Cup I thought it would be busy but it was quiet as our Lunch was 1pm! The food was outstanding and piping hot, all served together considering different starters, mains and desserts were ordered!I always book the Lonsdale at Christmas and this years choice of Menu was different from Traditional which I think is a move in the right direction! Starters were mainly The Maple Syrup and Butternut Squash, Cauliflower Croquettes and Pulled Turkey with Roasties! Mains Turkey and Ham Hock Pie with Broccoli, Mash or Fries with Gravy, Steak with Chips and Veg, Sauce of choice! Desserts Eton Mess, Bramble and Apple Crumble with Custard or Ice Cream, Chocolate Brownie Pudding with Ice Cream! The Presentation was outstanding, Louise was attending us and offered fresh Napkins, Water, Condiments and Drinks! Was not dissappointed with the Service or the Price! Great Value!

A really super friendly local hostelry with a great atmosphere...highly recommended if you enjoy a fine pint, live sport and good pub scran. One of the few pubs with a pool table, darts and, for the weirdo tourists, a shuffle board. The staff are really good fun, always seem pleased to welcome you back and the manager Rob is probably the second best kisser in Jesmond (although his wing-man Mark ain't bad either). Get yourself in for a most enjoble wee session of supping and necking. Top, top place...Easily the best pub in Jesmond by a country centimetre. Enjoy.

Recent high quality refurbishment. Not crowded in the afternoon.Rather too many TVs showing the sports channel.. An excellent selection of drinks and a choice of bar meals.
