Great OLD (1435) traditional British pub. Only stopped for a beer, but impressed by its atmosphere and age.

This pub is situated near the river in the town of Fowey, it is a very warm and friendly pub on two floors. It's the oldest pub in Fowey and speaks of John Rashleigh building the property in the 15 hundreds before being converted to a public house. It's a fascinating building and very period for the time, loads to see in the pub while you while away time chatting over the decor. First the great, the food is fantastic, the fish pie is too good to put into words, all dishes looked in good proportions and of quality. Service was friendly and helpful and dogs are allowed to sit in the dining area with you. Talking of dogs they actually do a full dining experience for dogs, yes you heard correct, starters mains and puddings washed down with a dog beer! Our dog loved the fish dinner and the beer (non alcoholic) nothing was left behind. You order at the bar which can be busy in the evenings but that's nothing new. The only point I'd raise is the toilets, the men's isn't great and the females Loo is very small, it could do with a tidy up, but don't let that detract from the overall experience, it's a fantastic pub and I'd go as far to say the fish pie is probably the best I've ever had!! Definitely worth a visit, a piece of English history, a warm welcome and a proper dog's dinner make it a great night out. Enjoy the atmosphere and food in great surroundings...

Been visiting The Ship for the last 20 years. Booked a table of seven like we do every year. To be told half the menu is not available, that’s all good understand. Order meal from what is left. One of the meal comes as half the meal, when questioned told that they have not had half the meal all week. When questioned told we could have £2 off a £17 meal. The owner could not even be bothered to leave his drinks with mates to come and discuss. No problem , will not darken his door again!

Been going to the ship for 20 years at oct half term. Loved the “proper job” and the welcome. However, our recent trip was very disappointing. Bol Poked a table for dinner, half the menu was not available. Ordered food, then some of the meal did not come complete. Was told that they had not had the sauces all week! Offered a small discount after the event. Would have like to have been told beforehand. A great shame, but we will be qvoidinf the Ship from now on.

The Oldest Pub in town, built in 1435. Popped in for a quick drink, staff very welcoming & attentive. Dog friendly, water bowls with ice in for the dogs & treats on the bar. Menu & food looked very good although didn’t have chance to eat here. There was a dog menu too, just ask the chef! Central location, quaint with 1435 characteristics as you would expect for an old pub. One good sized ladies toilet, basic but clean & large enough to accommodate baby changing pull out table.

We visited on the first night of our stay in Fowey - unfortunately we couldn't get a table inside as it was so busy so sat outside (although it was a bit chilly). We had a little wait for the food as they were busy but it was worth it - good sized portions, came out hot and nicely cooked (best vegetable lasagna I have had with a lovely side salad). Could not fault it and only wish we'd had time to go back for a repeat visit.

Friendly barman who made us feel welcome each day, super pints, very clean and atmospheric & the food exceptional. My other half had the fish and chips, perfectly fresh cooked in amazing batter and he said they were the best mushy peas he’s ever eaten. I had the cod fillet sandwich which was just heavenly, the salad on the side very nice and the onion rings 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻 He also had the burger on one day and was equally impressed with the quality of the burger the homemade coleslaw. Also recommend the whitebait 👌🏻 As someone who is quite particular and has eaten in a lot of establishments over the years I cannot find any fault with what we eat & drunk. Came in here on a bit of a whim with no real expectations- just trying to find a table somewhere as we had neglected to book! But what a find this was. A warm and friendly welcome from the staff to both us and our little dog and a charming pub to while away an afternoon in. For lunch 2 of us opted for fish and chips- which was sublime and I opted for a sandwich with a side of chips. Considering it was something as simple as a ham, cheese and pickle sandwich I can’t tell you how refreshing it was- properly made, a good amount of quality ingredients and delicious. And then there’s the chips. The chips are a game changer, so crispy, so well seasoned- utterly delicious. Such a simple thing but so perfectly executed- I’d go back time and again just for another portion if only I lived closer! The only letdown in this visit were the toilets, which were pretty horrendous, but I’m sure these will get the TLC they desperately need in due course.

Very nice inn with so much history behind it in a buzzing high street right be the water. Seagulls will keep you up if you’re a light sleeper but the experience is worth it. There was a village church bell that would go off every hour on the hour which made our night restless. When we arrived to check in the host behind the bar seemed a bit unbothered to greet us. The room was nice however the private bathroom advertised online was actually across the creaky hall/landing. This was inconvenient when we both had bad food from Sam’s restaurant .. The shower looked nice however I was too tall for the shower.. best fits for those who aren’t 6ft+ due to the low ceiling. There’s a visitors log book by the stairs that dates back 100s of years. The ink on some pages are faint but you can make out some visitors dating back a long time ago. It’s worth checking out to see what date the first visitor signed! The breakfast was delicious and so was the tea.

We drove from London to meet friends and chose this pub as the ambience looked good. We booked a table for 4 beforehand. On arrival we saw a gentleman sit down at our reserved table the bar tender said that we had booked the table. I apologised to the man but received a glare and a grump. I guess he and his wife and dog are locals and get fed up with visitors taking up their space. Again I apologise to him! Our friends arrived and having not seen them for many years we were very animated in conversation but not to much to notice the great food that was delivered the Moules had been delivered direct from sea that morning and they were so delicious probably the best I have ever eaten. Other dishes bought were equally delicious. The beer apparently was also good as my husband drank 4 pints. So when in Fowey pop in! Oh and I love the fact that dogs are allowed after all they are part of the fabric which makes Fowey so special.

When I complained about the whitebait being covered in bright yellow bread crumbs the landlord kindly explained to me that I was ignorant and didn’t know what I was talking about. He explained that whitebait comes covered in bread crumbs and without the breadcrumbs it’s called blanchbait. I’d thought whitebait was covered in flour and then fried. So I decided to do some research and become less ignorant. What I found out is that blanch bait is: “A really handy freezer staple, blanchbait is whitebait that's been gutted and the head has been cut off then it's breaded, ready to be dropped into your fryer. ” So, it would seem what I was eating wasn’t whitebait anyway, but blanchbait, so perhaps the menu needs updating to what is being served here. Which would be something out of the freezer covered in bright yellow breadcrumbs and then fried.

Really looking forward to visiting the oldest pub in Fowey - salmon special not available, girl behind bar said they didn't have any salmon - no mention of this when we asked her where we should sit on arriving. Suggest the 'Specials'board should be amended saves customers time choosing a meal that doesn't exist. Whilst waiting for our meal to arrive all we could hear were the staff constantly using foul language - one even found it very amusing to admit she doesnt need a therapist but she should 'hire a therapist to kick the s**t out of'. Maybe it's my age, but at 58 trying to enjoy a peaceful Cornish holiday I do not wish to listen to such language. I have always worked in the service industry and would be really upset if I had offended a customer by being so unprofessional. Grabbed an opportunity to have a rare night away following a stressful few months. Choose Fowey as we knew in January it would be pretty quiet, just what we were looking for. Arrived at the pub to be informed that our room was over the...

Apparently this pub is so old, Jesus Christ had a pint here. I would hope that he had a pint of Rattlers because only this 6% pint is strong enough for when you come downstairs and bump your head really hard on the low lintel,...

The Ship Inn has the most wonderful, tourist friendly welcoming staff, with excellent food in a cosy setting. Highly recommended you visit particularly for their fish pie.

Lovely pub. Friendly staff. We managed to sit in the little snug which is perfect for a drink with friends. This pub has loads of character - definitely worth a visit whilst your visiting Fowey.

Extremely misogynistic landlord. Whatever you do; don’t bring your custom here. Me and my friends had bought six drinks, and before last orders he locked the door and wouldn’t let us in to use the loo. Eventually after some persuasion he let us in but...

I was drawn to this pub as it is the oldest in town and I was pleased to see the interior matched my expectations. A proper pub. The staff were friendly and attentive and they had a wide range of drinks and a good menu.

Great spot with outdoor seating and heaters for the winter. Good drinks selection and order via app. Food was reasonably priced and tasty.
