The Railway Inn is at the heart of the village and, having had a miserable uphill walk in the rain on Sunday when I first saw the pub, we decided to take the car and go easy on the booze! Sharp's ales were on offer and we were both pleased with our pints of Atlantic. I had the steak, chips and peas for dinner which was most enjoyable. The pub has a fine atmosphere with small rooms leading off the main bar area which was nice. We popped in later in the week and the Sharp's Sea Fury was excellent.

Called in for a quick drink, made very welcome as we sampled some local ale. Was just having the one but was too good so had a few more....we were walking! We didn't eat on this visit but the food smelled good and those who were eating all seemed very happy. There was a bit of a lunchtime rush and for me it's a good sign when it's explained there could be a wait for food as that generally means it's cooked to order and not mass produced. If in the area again would definitely pop in for a drink and some food.

We walked into the pub to watch the football last night to be greeted by a lady with a note book telling us we had to go out side as all tables where booked in a very abrupt and rude manner As the evening went on the land lady became more and more drunk , being rude to customers and ending up having a go at a group of children who was sat the floor watching the football , which then ended up in a full on horrible argument between the drunken land lady and customers, then shortly after the police was called . To me this is disgusting behaviour from a landlady and we shall not be going back or recommending this pub while she still has something to do with it .

I could not believe how unwelcome we were made to feel. I am local to the area and took my visiting German friends and all of our 3 young children with us for a drink around 4pm, and I could not believe how rude the staff were to both them and myself. No reply to my friend when she greeted them, just odd looks. They made us feel very uncomfortable and it ruined our afternoon - after we had just walked in, my son (age 2!) was rudely told off straight away for touching the arcade machine (which is always attractive with bright colours and buttons). After a few minutes they continued to tell the children off - next it was because they wanted to touch the balloons (again, kids are always attracted to balloons) It made us feel very on edge, I even visibly saw the male behind the bar shaking his head when my son wanted to look at the chicken on the bar! DON’T take your family here, I will NEVER be going back again and I will be sure to tell all my local friends this as well.

Our favourite pub when we visit St.Agnes, which is about six times a year. The pub has a real local, unpretentious feel and has many nooks and crannies inside not visible from outside. Really nice sun terrace outside to enjoy a pint on a warm day. The owner is always accomodating when we want to watch a football match on the screens both inside and outside. He made our time there very uncomfortable and he told one of my friends to f*** off after just ordering a coke instead of a pint as they don’t drink.on another occasion he kicked my friend out for having a water bottle on him. they really need to sort there attitude out because it isn’t ok especially when your work is in hospitality- i think you should how to be a better person.

I have visited St Agnes three times in the last year and The Railway is one of the main reasons my breaks there are so great. I hate plastic pubs (the sort we know from all towns). As soon as I leave the coach after 9 hours I make sure I get there for a great well kept pint or three. The landlord and staff are great and from the off I knew I was in a true local pub - where every one seemed to just relax and have a good time. I went at Halloween and the boss and the team had a great party for the kids and the place was decorated in fun. There is good live music - although i haven't eaten the food it looks really good (my hotel has a meal package) - but the beer and the whole experience is one that I really recommend..... After a check it IS the best pub in St Agnes - please try it.

Visited the Railway Inn for food recently and will not be going back. Myself and a friend got there early afternoon and had a look at the very uninspiring menu. I am a vegetarian and the lack of options was disappointing but I chose the plant based burger and my friend ordered a beef burger. The person behind the bar (young guy) turned around to tell a woman (bluey hair, wearing a formula 1 T-shirt) that there was a food order, she shrugged it off and carried on watching the formula 1…I was shocked. When the food eventually came out we were both confused about how small the portions were and found the food very bland and average. The only positive experience was another guy who was behind the bar at one point who actually spoke to us and one other person in the pub (nobody had made conversation with us before this) however when he was talking, the woman with the bluey hair (who was now drinking a pint which isn’t professional in my opinion if she is responsible for cooking) shouted at him for standing around chatting. Oh and to top it off my friend had a dodgy stomach the next day. If you like being ignored, made to feel in the way and enjoy less than average overpriced food then this is the place for you!

Arrived early evening (5pm) on the first night of our holiday looking for food only to be greeted by staff who seemed very put out that we hadn't booked in advance. We were told it was curry night and we shouldn't have looked on the website for their menu because they don't serve everything on that menu. They only have a tiny kitchen and can't provide a full menu. Just felt like we were a complete inconvenience to them, so we left. Would recommend booking if you want a friendlier experience!

We were recommended this place to watch the England WWC game today, as we came in we got a stare down from one of the workers behind the bar. We asked if they could put on the game we wanted to watch. For context, there were about 4-6 other people in at the time, in one of the rooms watching their own game, another 4 tvs turned off not in use. They said it might not be possible. When we said it was just on ITV, one of the workers behind the bar said they might be able to do something while asking their co-worker, who made it seem like a bother saying he waiting for his game to start... felt unwelcoming and like we were bothering them

Not child friendly!!!! Staff were quite rude and not particularly accommodating of children. Adult lunch menu portions are exceptionally small, more like a child’s lunch. Chicken wrap - came as two tiny tortilla wraps (7-8cm in diameter), handful of chicken and some sauce. Wraps are too small to wrap anything. Came with all of ten chips. Hugely disappointing, very expensive for what it was and my children (10 and 6) were both still starving hungry. So it didn’t even function as a child’s portion. Wouldn’t go again.
