Manager and staff superb. We go here for drinks and usually sit by the window, the staff remember what drinks we have even though it is packed on a Sunday. The roasts look amazing and the puds. Nice to feel welcome when we just go for drinks. Everyone is well looked after and they ensure everyone leaves with a smile.

Amazing place, delicious food and super friendly atmosphere. The best fish and chips in town, no kidding. Fresh fish, light not overpowering butter around it.Big portion of Hand cut chips with it. Five star! 👌

I am not very happy I have travelled down from Manchester and stayed and extra night in Kent to come to the ship and whale with friends because online on several sites it says you were open today the 27 December and after driving a long way here there’s a stupid sign on your door saying you are closed. How about updating you website also!!!!!!

This has been my local for 13 years. Great food and service maintained during these difficult times, Basia and staff always friendly and welcoming. Sadly about to close ifor the new lockdown, but we plan to make full use of their excellent take away service until they reopen.

A pesar de ser un viernes por la noche muy concurrida, el servicio que recibimos fue rápido y muy amable. Conseguimos un pescado y patatas fritas que estaba delicioso y grandes porciones, junto con algunas bebidas. No soy local en este pub, pero el ambiente de los residentes y el personal fue tan acogedor que definitivamente regresaría. (El pub también se mostró complaciente con nosotros ya que tuve que modificar la reserva varias veces)

Literally the best Sunday lunch in London. Lamb shank and pork belly to die for! Staff are amazingly helpful and friendly. So relaxed and great spot for a riverside stroll to walk it off!!

Lovely pub but can't drink the wine, which is also expensive. Some bargain food dishes & nice beer. Better in the warm weather because they have a garden.

Vengo aquí regularmente, ya sea solo con mi pareja o mi madre también se une a nosotros. La comida siempre es fresca y de alto nivel, tienen un excelente menú de desayuno. El menú del almuerzo y la cena también es genial. Creo que la calidad de la comida y el servicio es excelente y vale la pena el dinero que se le cobra. El ambiente en el pub es siempre agradable y amigable. El propietario y el personal siempre son amables y profesionales, me encanta el buen servicio al cliente y cumplen mis expectativas. Sin duda volvería de nuevo y recomendaría este lugar a otros. He estado en algunos otros pubs gastro para los almuerzos de los domingos y he estado muy decepcionado antes. Solo me quedaré con este lugar en el futuro.

We have been to this small atmospheric pub before and got lucky on a sunny day and sat in the garden area - the service was again good and friendly and the food was excellent - reasonably price they do add a service charge - Good quantities and good service - hope we go back

Attended this venue at the weekend. Most people in our group had the roast dinner which was lovely. I had the vegetarian roast dinner which was delicious. Good sized portions. Service a bit slow between courses and had to keep chasing the waiting staff to be served but otherwise very enjoyable. No disabled toilet available at this venue.

We had reserved a table here on our last night in London. We had been staying at Odessa Wharf for the week and had just been so busy seeing the sights and exploring that we didn't have a chance to get to this pub. Finally, on our last night we were able to experience this lovely little pub. We definitely saved the best for last.

Fue un paseo de The Ship and Whale, pero no nos importó, la comida era buena, bastante típica comida de pub, hamburguesas, costillas, mitad pollo Piri Piri, bistec y un plato combinado de todo esto (no para El débil corazón!) El cordero tagine era bueno de acuerdo con mi compañero.

Went there with my family. It is a nice traditional English pub serving good food, generous portions at reasonable prices. The lamb shank was excellent as were all the other dishes ordered. The staff was helpful and efficient. Recommended

Nous avons loué une maison juste à côté, ce bar était notre refuge durant un mois. Les burgers et les boissons sont top ! Par contre le service lors des commandes est plutôt long..

Been here twice in the last month and sat in the large patio garden. Comfy chairs, tables not too close and a choice of shade or sun as you prefer. Our group had Sunday roast as well as salads and burgers, all of which was cooked perfectly and delicious. Service was great and attentive. Well worth a visit be that for just a drink or meal. Reasonably priced too.

This is nearest eating house and pub to where staying near Greenland Dock. We have enjoyed evening meals and a Saturday breakfast. All the meals have been well cooked and enjoyable. The menu is varied with ample options and a good choice of drinks to compliment the food. Also the staff very obliging and helpful. Well worth a visit.

Al ver cómo estaba fuera y las palomas volando hacia nuestras mesas decidimos ir localmente en otro lugar. Afortunadamente, nos decidimos por el barco y ballenas porque estaba impecable y la comida era encantador. Mi marido tenía el solomillo y tuve el combo. Las bebidas eran frías y la gente que era sensato y muy amable. Volveremos y nos gustaría recomendar a nadie para hacerlo. Una mención especial en el jardín de la cerveza que es impecable también

Tuve paseaban por aquí antes y tenía un recogimiento que este bar era caro, pero aquí fue que en un caluroso domingo y no se inclina a caminar más para otro pub. Pedí la pierna de cordero, que era bastante caro como por mi memoria pero cuando llegó me podía ver el contexto. En primer lugar, vine con un montón de verduras, sanos pero también contundente, en segundo lugar, el muslo de cordero era importante en sí mismo, más que salidas recientes Pero finalmente fue cocinado a la perfección. A veces se obtiene lo que se paga.

Cenamos allí dos veces en semana. Pescado y patatas fritas, y una carne de hamburguesa. Las comidas eran muy sabroso y me encantaría comer aquí. La decoración es encantadora - moderno, limpio, fresco. La mayoría de los otros clientes parecía ser residentes y clientes habituales. El servicio era muy bueno, precios razonables, la comida era una buena relación calidad-precio, el ambiente era propicio para relajarse. Recomiendo este pub sin ninguna duda.

We visited for lunch on Easter Saturday - Specials and a varied menu at a reasonable price - We had one salmon, 2 fish and chips and peri peri chicken - all meals were really good - a good atmosphere and really pleasant and prompt service - really good

We usually visit the Ship & Whale on Sundays, because they have the most amazing roast. Also, I visited last Friday and found out that they offer a specials menu every Friday and Saturday! I ordered a chicken roulade with courgette and parmesan, it was delicious. My wife had a dessert, I had a little taste of it, both me and her were really impressed. As always very helpful and friendly staff, even though they had a busy place to handle!We highly recommend.

We went to the Ship and Whale for Sunday lunch on a recommendation from a friend. It was excellent. Lovely meal and pleasant atmosphere. The ladies working behind the bar and serving the food were extremely friendly and helpful. A wonderful meal and we shall definitely be paying another visit.

We stopped here on the way back from a Thanes Footpath walk. It actually seemed like a pub that locals might possibly use and there were certainly families there. The beer was decent enough, but I cannot comment on the food since we didn't have any, but it looked nice enough and the prices were reasonable for London. Staff were attentive and we were glad we popped in.

Went here at the weekend in the middle of a wet n windy walk down the Thames path. The pub itself is lovely, historical photos on the walls and nice decor / toilets. We were hungry so ordered chips, a Greek salad and a soup of the day. I was surprised as to how small the servings were, the menu was quite expensive so I expected it to be a bit bigger, I've had bigger and better salads in supermarket meal deals. Nothing special with the small bowl of soup either. The girl that served me was friendly but the manager, not so much!All the reviews here seem to favour the roasts or the fish and chips, so maybe I should have gone for those instead.

I stayed at the Odessa Wharf and coming in the late evening, there isn't much of a selection to choose from. The Ship and Whale was the closest pub. It is where locals go and that is a good sign. The space is quite open, the service is friendly (although they are Polish and their English is so-so). Most importantly, the food is tasty. There isn't too much of a selection on the menu, but everything they have is well made. We liked our dinner so much we came back for breakfast. Again, we were quite pleased. If you are around, stop on by and enjoy. You will not regret it.

A great little pub just off the river, dog and child friendly. Serving a reasonable range of beers and wines, the menu has allot of choices trad British pub fare cooked very well, the fish and chips should really be named "whale & chips" cooked perfectly.As a drop in for food and drinks you can't go wrong.

I Think that this is of the perfect pub in London!! The ambient is amazing and they have a really big garden where you can enjoy your drinks and food! The price is good but the food could be better but not complain, I highly recommend this pub-restaurant!

The Ship and Whale is a lovely old London pub and offers very good food with a friendly service to match. Sunday lunch is a good old fashioned roast with "home-made" Yorkshires, roast potatoes, gravy etc - and plenty of it .Alternatives are available such as burgers and fish. Good beer, reasonably priced. One thing that marred the meal for me is an obligatory 12.5% service charge. To be expected in a good quality restaurant but in a pub ? I found it off-putting for future visits.

The Ship and Whale is an ideal place for a week day evening meal or Sunday lunch. The family who run the pub have done a great job of elevating this place from an average boozer that does food to a really pleasant place with a lovely friendly ambiance and a decent menu suitable for children and there is always at least one vegetarian option. This is not a real ale drinkers haunt, but there are two ales on tap (shepherd Neame Spitfire & Whitstable Ale) which are good, but not exceptional. Food is average value for money. The main reason to go here is to enjoy the beer garden and the friendly staff. Recommended!

A party of eleven family and friends including three young children met up for Sunday lunch. In view of the glorious weather we chose to eat in the beer garden. The range of drinks available was outstanding and the service friendly and prompt. The menu when viewed offered a great variety to satisfy the desires of children, meat eaters and vegetarians. Our orders were taken once the decisions had been made and despite the number in the party and the range of dishes chosen service was perfect. Once we were ready to leave our varied payment methods were accommodated with pleasant smiles. A first rate experience and we will undoubtedly be back.

This is one of the friendliest pubs I have been to the family that run it are always happy and smiling and could not be more attractive including table service. If that was not enough the food is outstanding and a good choice of beers and wines and the family being Polish there is always a bottle of vodka in the freezer under the bar for great shots. Lovely garden at the back well worth a visit.

Loved this place great food, Clean we'll run specials on the board most days. Sunday beef roast was the best meal we have had since leaving home roast vegs, home cut chips so hot big plates. I loved the on tap cider nice and cold, not luke warm like the lager beers. If walking or riding the pathway this is a must stop place, history is must read. We have eaten there 4 times in 4 days. They even hold keys for bookings to Odessa units if you cannot arrive on you day of booking. I cannot thank the owner enough for this free service.

Our local pub. Great food, ambiance and service. The pub is owned by a lady and she does a great job- although it has evolved over the years into more of a gastropub, it still retains the old fahioned features- the history is on the walls, on the menu, in the decor. The food is usually to a very high standard.Tonight we had rib-eye steak and chips and aubergine rolls in tomato and Parmesan sauce. Delicious.

We spied this shepherd and Neame pub while walking along the Thames path, in we went. Spitfire advertised on a bar mat, but no spitfire there was not even the the staple go to beer Masterbrew ! What is the world coming to only golden ale on the pump ! They had whitstable bay on which may be ok for some but give a choice of dark ale after all the idea of the spitfire gold is to get lager boys drinking ALE. Anyway the garden was nice at the rear the toilets were clean. They do basic food like burgers. The pub was very empty for a Saturday lunch time so perhaps not popular with the locals

Lovely English Pub steeped in History. While it is pub food the menu is not you usual standard fare. Food is generous and tasty. Wine list is good for a pub. Atmosphere is excellent with lots of locals meeting and chatting. This is a quieter area of London with fabulous walks near buy in the Greenland Docks. Worth a visit to both!

We have just moved into the area and delighted to say within a very short stroll of The Ship and Whale. Basia the landlady makes such an effort getting to know you which makes a real difference. Food is very good - we popped in for Sunday Lunch after the marathon - didn't book and we were fortunate to get a table as it was very busy. The pub is dog friendly and has a lovely garden area out the back. A absolute gem of a pub.

This is a regular haunt whenever I visit Rotherhithe. The pub has a great beer garden (which is dog-friendly) and some new seating out the front. Inside it has a good selection of local & international beers on tap and offers up very good food, especially the Sunday roasts. It is run by Basia and assisted by Ela who are both always very chirpy and welcoming.

We've had a few roasts here and each time we've been slightly disappointed. They're not the cheapest, so it's fair to expect a great meal. The first time we had beef, which was overcooked and a bit chewy. The second time I had the vegetarian roast, will included a 'roast' patty - when it turned up it is a pre-bought patty, soggy in the gravy, that would be better suited to a burger or with cheaps/beans. I would like to see it home-made, or perhaps a more flavoursome nut roast. It seems my boyfriend's pork belly had once been crispy, but perhaps reheated so it was more chewy than crispy crackling.The veg and gravy is good, but we've had better roasts at other nearby pubs for similar or cheaper prices. Cosy interior, maybe better for a drink!

I live just round the corner from this pub and it is my favourite pub in London for hospitality, food and atmosphere. Never too crowded or too empty and the managers always have time for a chat, I think this place is a gem. With a fascinating history too. Highly recommended. Especially the fish and chips!

I have been there several times, just for drinks, so i cannot comment on the food side of things.Ambience and atmosphere could be improved by not having their music too loud. Otherwise what I loved it is not overcrowded, and every time we went there we had somewhere to sit.Drinks selection is good.

Lovely old-fashioned local pub with good beer and food. Shared a huge portion of fish and chips, with a side of onion rings with my son. Cost around £20 with drinks. Highly recommend. Many thanks.

Really lovely friendly and homely pub that was also nice and spacious with excellent staff and it's child friendly too and the food was lovely I had sea bass that was roasted and filleted with a side salad and roasted aubergines very nice and the rest in our party had the traditional Sunday lunch that also went down well served with all the trimmings and the biggest home made Yorkshire puddings I had ever seen!!! Reasonable prices too and will definitely visit again

This is a classic pub with standard pub fare that is served quickly, piping hot and is very tasty. Several beers on tap and even a good wine list for those who don't drink beer or ale. Be ready for friendly dogs and sometimes families, along with very friendly wait staff.

Great atmosphere, friendly service and reasonable prices for an old-style Sunday roast beef and yorkshire pudding with draught beer--but cheerfully accommodating the vegetarian member of our group. Perfect spot for a break from wandering the riverfront.

The Mayflower was very busy so we have Ship & Whale a go for a roast. We were pleasantly surprised it was not as busy, the Sunday roast was very good value for money and the service was very attentive.

Been here a number of times to eat and also just for a drink. More recently took my dad here as was visiting had a lovely meal good quality and nicely presented. He had the veggie burger and myself sausage and mash! Definitely be a regular eating place for me.

We have lived in the area for a while and heard about this pub from a few friends so thought it was high time to try it. It was surprisingly empty for a Sunday afternoon, but it’s probably because we arrived just before Sunday lunch was being served at 1pm. We ordered the beef roast and lamb shank Sunday roast, which was slight more expensive than I would expect to pay for a local pub (just under £15 each). The serves were quite impressive though and they certainly do not skimp on the vegetables which included carrots, parsnip, cabbage, cauliflower and peas. The beef roast was quite tough and the lamb was a bit bland, but with the gravy was fine. I also found the Yorkshires to be slightly burnt and had that taste. Overall though the meal was nice and very filling.As the pub was quite empty it was very pram friendly and even if it was full I think it would be ok for a few prams as the tables are not squashed closely together. Overall I would recommend the Sunday roast if you are local.

This is a lovely local pub with a pleasant outdoor garden and dining area. The pub serves good food and is best visited on a cold winters evening. Highly recommended as a stop off while cycling the Thames path. There are cycle racks outside the front door.

I would probably get in trouble if mention the other 'P' but this gem of a 'European born owners' traditional pub has food quality that equals the service and atmosphere. We will be back.

I used to live in the area and used the Ship York many times but on a recent visit discovered it has now shut so went in here.When I lived here I never bothered trying it but I should have done as it is a good place.Nice and woody with a friendly mix of old locals and young proffesionals all having a good time.Fair selection of well kept cask ales and lagers for sale at the going rate for this neck of the woods.We had steak and chips which was pretty good although the steak got a bit tough towards the end.My wife has ate here on a few occasions and reckons the food is normally great so we put that down to just getting the wrong steak on the night.Staff were super friendly and efficient so if you're in the area (and you can find it) I suggest you give it a go.They have specials on also.

It is a little gem in the Rotherhithe. I visited the pub many times and always was welcomed by friendly staff. The food is always fantastic and I can highly recommend ribs and Sunday roast. Selection of the beers is good as well and you can wind your day down and have a few drinks with locals that are majority of the customers. I'm always happy to visit The Ship and Whale!
