Aperitif in a typically English setting

What a Great pub, food was superb, service was fast, and the staff were welcoming and professional.

Fish and chips was fire. Beer was fire. Vibes were fire.

A wonderful place to feel the spirit of London, drink a beer in that pub... priceless

Simply lovely and excellent food.

The Anchor is a must visit pub for holiday makers in London, though it could do with a brush up on staff and their demeanour and tone when speaking to patrons. Drinks selection was decent, even if a bit safe. Hand-dryer was broken in the men’s loo and no hand towels put out. Luckily the views when having a drink makes up for some of the issues at The Anchor.

Amazing location, food, service and vibe

The pub has a lovely outdoor terrace by the Thames. Great for a Sunday afternoon drink in the sun. We were there in a fairly large group and everyone who ordered food was happy with their selection. The prices for central London are fair, portions generous, quality good and service very swift even at the busy time we ordered.

Typical London pub, with a structure reminiscent of the 19th century. We ate the best fish & chips and Mac&cheese in all of London (fair prices). We are on the Thames a few steps from London Bridge, its red windows stand out among the new and modern English structures.

I've walked past this restaurant the last three times I've been to London and finally got to go on this last trip. We loved how easy it was to order at the bar and still get a great sit-down meal. My house salad with chicken was awesome and my husband really loved his steak and ale pie. The chips were also nicely done. The atmosphere is great where you can look out over the Thames. We sat upstairs near the roof deck and it had a very warm and welcoming vibe.

Lovely old fashioned pub (inside) - Listen out for the rats in the ceiling when you go to the toilet (authentic London!). Atmosphere outside on the deck, near the river is really pleasant - la good amount of f seating (but you will need to be quick to get that seat and table). They allow dogs on the deck with their owners. The music, ah, the music was great! old reggae like Toots and the Martel's - everyone was boobing!! The downside was the service which was slow, no smile or nice greeting and all drinks came in plastic cups :(

The menu here is quite varied, and I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the dishes. Traditional English dishes such as fish and chips are heartily prepared and the portions are generous. However, the choice of beer is also excellent: local varieties, as well as well-known brands, as befits a good pub.

Only stayed for a drink or 2 , top place

Wow - hard to believe this place has a decent rating. The food is dreadful - microwaved rubbish. Gave some feedback to two staff members, one of which seemed to understand and sympathize with us, the other shrugged the shoulders. No service recovery - a round in drinks could have increased this to a 3/5 star. But avoid for food - all four of our meals were below average. Go for a drink though - great summer riverside bar.

Bad experience: theft and unacceptable behavior/mocked by the staff!!! With my family we decided to spend the evening of August 22nd in this pub, but we had a terrible experience. During our dinner, we were robbed of our fanny pack which contained our passports, credit cards and life-saving medications. It was a quiet evening, and while I was downstairs getting some water for my daughter, I discovered that the baby carrier was missing. I immediately raised the alert and realized that the only person who was around our table was the waiter. We noticed that a camera was positioned right in front of our table and may have captured the incident. However, when I asked to view the video, I was denied and the staff seemed annoyed and not interested in resolving the situation. And after insistence I was told that the CCTV camera had been viewed (within 3 minutes) and that it did not cover the area of ​​the table where we were sitting even though it was positioned directly above the table!!! I called the police and waited until the pub closed, but they never arrived on site in time and so I went straight to the nearest station to complete the report. The waiter disappeared and we received a notification for the fraudulent use of our credit card, which we blocked immediately. The CCTV video, which could have clarified everything, was never shown to us. Instead of receiving assistance, we were treated with indifference amidst various jeers!!! Indecent behavior. There is a formal complaint in place and I have sent a separate request to ANCHOR Management to view the footage and await a response. In the meantime I invite tourists who dine in this pub to be particularly CAREFUL!!! Anthony

Great riverside bar/restaurant! Great outside space! Fish and chips as good! Great beers!

Great rabbit warren of a place! Staff very friendly. Meals came very quickly and yummy except for one thing: the chicken kyiv was only breaded chicken, nothing in the centre. Except for that, highly recommended!

I can give many 0 stars here. The staff was fantastic. Yes you need to book a table and yes they will ask for deposit for a bigparty. The team dealt so well with my booking/table being wrong. My food was late but even that got sorted in Minutes. Willl I come back. Absolutely.

Great history and atmosphere. If only the food, drinks and service matched. Mediocre fish and chips at best and a dreadful pint of Guinness that I couldn't even finish. Maybe this place is decent for a mixed drink and the patio but I definitely wouldn't recommend anything else. One and done for me. I won't be back.

Pop in here for a couple of drinks after walking along the south side. Great bar, you can sit inside or outside* some great views if you sit outside. bar was bizzy but everyone was served quickly.. will pop back soon. Well done to the Team.

Was served last night by the lovely girl called Nay. She was friendly and her customer service was amazing. She had a lovely welcoming energy and a smile on her face the whole time. Thank you Nay.

Really nice cozy pub, it's got a great view of the Thames, but the Mac and cheese was the highlight for me. It was incredible. A little pricey perhaps, but the place was worth it. There also is a free water self-serve station which I appreciated a lot. Additionally, there was an excellent selection of draft beers.

I went to the Achor at Bank side with ex-work colleagues for a reunion. We were at the bar and ordered a round which included 5 pints. 4 of the pints were less than full measure so the bar man was asked to fill them up. He did so but moaned about it and was less than polite. It spoilt the atmosphere for the evening. This is not the sort of behaviour I would expect from a someone working in the hospitality business, certainly not from the man who was apparently the bar manager. I would not recommend the pub as a place to go.

Nice place on the Thames to drink beer

One of the nicest pubs in London......but with very very dirty local rude staff Burger cold and different from the one ordered, however ordered twice, the first time he didn't take note Dirty table brought to us without cleaning Sin......

So great to visit The Anchor. The atmosphere is great. There was a mix-up with our order, but it was resolved quickly. As for the food, the sandwiches were fairly basic. The burger was the most enjoyed meal at our table.

Complete disgrace, bar staff were so rude it was unbelievable, When questioned if we had done something wrong we were accused of making comments that we did not. AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Good food, good presentation, good service and good price for London, a very old pub with a spectacular façade, the interior very neat and in a key location, without a doubt highly recommended if you visit the city.

Fantastic views of the Thames and St Paul's. Worth a visit for those views and it's history but unfortunately the pub interior was in need of a good clean. Had to wipe our table as it was so sticky despite being clear of glasses when we sat down. One of the beer glasses served to us was totally dirty. The ladies toilets had no toilet paper in any of the stalls and needed cleaning including the doors! One woman asked a young man coming out of the Gents if he could grab some toilet paper for the Ladies. Generally the pub is let down by poor maintenance. We chose not to eat there due to this and went to another local pub. Shame as it could be so much better.

Love this pub. As a tour guide, it gives me great pleasure in taking clients here. Amazing history.

Classic pub. Can be busy because of tourists

I do not care much about the history of the building, but it is certainly apparent in how the building is laid out into various small rooms, many sets of stairs, and whatnot. However, I do care about the food. Once you find a table, just go to the main room to order what you fancy. It is traditional English fare, so the flavors of the food aren't very varied or complex, but it does very well at satiation. I got the beef pie with mashed potatoes. It came with this wedge of cabbage that served more like a garnish, but I suppose all the fat and carbs need a little fiber. The pie and mashed potatoes with gravy were very rich and nice. It is expensive for what it is, but I suppose it's the experience that costs.

Sunday roast reminded me of Grans. Perfect start to my holiday. Thanks!

Great climate but the food was just good, overpriced definitely. The stuff not very nice

On 18th of July this year (2024), I met up with some friends at the Anchor Bankside for a few drinks and a catchup. As I had already eaten, I can't comment on the food, but I was told it was OK. When one of my friends and I went to the bar to buy a round of drinks, we were served by the manager who poured 5 pints as requested. However, 4 of them were short measured, so we asked him to fill them up for us. He did so reluctantly muttering sarcastic remarks under his breath. Later, we noticed at our table a pint glass started leaking before coming completely apart showering lager everywhere. When my friend explained to the manager what happened, he replied rudely that he would deal with us when he finished serving. He then "ordered" one of the staff to clean up the mess at our table, which she did in a very polite and professional manner. While the majority of the bar staff were friendly and helpful, the attitude of the manager, to both customers and staff, was completely unacceptable. I look forward to seeing your response to this review. 9

Nice historic pub for a drink, by the riverside

I recently visited this pub with a group of friends. The number of issues were so bad that it was reported on behalf us all by a member of our party. Based on the time taken to respond and the quality of the response, we have no confidence that anything will change anytime soon. The burger meals that some of us had were poor both in terms of quantity and quality, in particular when you compare them to similar offerings from Fullers and Youngs pubs recently visited. When the manager was serving, incorrect measures were noticed on 4 of the 5 pints, and his attitude when asked to top them up was not appropriate. Other bar staff and food serving staff were friendly and helpful. The toilet facilities were not to the standard you would expect. I used to visit this pub quite a bit when I worked in Central London, but the standards have gone down considerably, and it is not somewhere that I have any intention of re-visiting in the near future or recommending to friends or ex-colleagues who still work in the area. It's a great location and the pub looks nice from the outside. If you are just looking for a drink by the river, the outdoor area looked lively, just make sure that your pint is the correct measure and you have eaten somewhere else beforehand!

Pub caratteristico e storico, situato nei pressi del Borough Market e sulla riva del Tamigi, per questo piuttosto affollato. Come accade per altri locali del genere a Londra, anche qui si va al banco ad ordinare e pagare subito; questo non sarebbe un problema, se non fosse che il personale in sala risulta piuttosto scocciato e superficiale (alla richiesta di ketchup sono stata ignorata e i piatti vengono lasciati sul tavolo così, senza neanche chiedere per chi siano). Cibo nella media, senza infamia e senza lode. Le porzioni sono abbondanti. Prezzi in linea con altri pub della città. Il locale è bello, con molte sale, ma il resto è da migliorare (a partire dai camerieri).

Too expensive for the small portions. You have to order at the counter yourself. The meat is very dry. I wouldn't go there again. From the outside, great, but otherwise, well I also think it's too cold in there. The children were freezing halfway through

Shocking customer service 9/07 Logged the complaint below 26/07 Had a call from anchor saying they would get back to me - never heard anything 06/08 - contacted head office 13/08 - still not heard anything !!!! 18/07/24, visited The Anchor, Bankside. We ordered food and drinks, we had more happy rounds, all was good until the manager, served us. I asked for 5 various pints and 4 of the 5 were short. I asked for them to be topped up to a full pint, he did fill the points up and gave me the drinks with a sarcastic comment. We had some further drinks, when we noticed one of the pint glasses (Moretti) was leaking, then the top completely split from the base of the glass, this resulted in lager going all over the table, my friend’s jeans, my bag, and various other things. I took the broken glass back to the bar and explained to the manager what happened, he said I will be with you when I have finished serving. I totally understand that, but can I have cloth as lager is everywhere! I was ignored eventually he barked orders at one of the staff to go and clean up! Jxxxxx came to clear the table and was so professional but the way the manager spoke to her was unacceptable. Also, the toilets are disgusting, none of the hand driers were not working in the ladies and this meant toilet paper everywhere and the smell from the men’s toilet was horrific. I am not sure if that pub is aimed at tourists and the manager doesn’t care about ripping customers off or getting repeat business but being rude to customers and staff is not acceptable and surely toilets and basic hygiene should be adhered to. Makes me wonder what the kitchen hygiene is like. I look forward to your comments on this situation.

A refuge from the hustle and bustle of central London. I was going to have a pie but glad I didn't when I saw the size of the portions. Great if you have a very healthy appetite.

I would usually avoid this pub during the day,seeing it as a tourist trap,but at sundown,it was a lovely chilled spot to sink a rum or two before the train home.

Cold and very small bun, cold meat, bits of bone in the burger Cold, flavorless onion rings. You could only taste the old oil. 3 onion rings costing around 4GBP, They forgot to bring the beers, I had to go and ask them why they only gave us the sandwiches. Honestly, paying almost 20GBP for a sandwich for this terrible quality is really too much. I strongly advise against it. Only the place/room is saved. There are plenty of other good alternatives around London

Nice pub with friendly staff. Located near to the Tate modern and Shakespeare's globe. They have a good selection of beers, wine and spirits. Should you want something to eat they also serve a good selection of food and snacks. Sadly the toilets are not so great. The awful smell before you enter them is not great and the toilet I had to use the lock was broken

We "had lunch" (at 3pm) in this historic pub, recommended by guides and acquaintances and I must say that the environment and the atmosphere do not betray expectations We had a fish & chips, a ploughman's tart and 2 burgers Fish & chips not great other dishes OK

After an initial visit wasn't the best, the management dealt with the feedback professionally and invited us back to put things right. Much better experience this time so only right and fair to adjust my review accordingly. Would happily return

Casual fish&chips, not bad, not amazing as well

Characteristic pub on the banks of the Thames behind the Borought market, frequented by many young people, on several levels, both indoors and outdoors. Their pie filled with meat is very good as is the hamburger meat, the prices are average. It is worth trying to immerse yourself in the noisy atmosphere of London pubs.

Bad service. Bad food. Atmosphere not worth it. They’re only still in business because of the location. Got a Bloody Mary that was straight up gross. I asked them to replace it, they said no that’s how it is listed on the menu. Bloody Mary’s have flavor and seasoning, but they said “no, not theirs.” Food was overcooked no flavor and missing a side salad. I asked for the salad, they said “it’s not actually a salad.” I could give 0 stars I would. Go to McDonalds instead

Horrible experience at this bar/restaurant. The drinks and food are some of the worst I have ever had and expensive. Food was overcooked and cold when served and tasted horrible. Service was non- existent and when we spoke to manager she could not have cared less. Clearly an establishment surviving off its history. I do not recommend. This place should be shut down.

My favourite place to visit when in London. Very olde worlde inside and super modern on the outdoor terrace with outdoor bar too.

Great place to grad a pint with a friend

The beer was tasty, the food portions were smaller than expected and the toilets weren't clean both nights we were there.

This pub is an English pub as we like them. Noisy, wood-clad with magnificent counters. I always have the pleasure of going there to drink a Guinness and eat a Fish'n Chips.
