Had Friday night and Saturday night evening meals, great menu offering excellent local produce. Bar staff, front of house and catering staff all smiles and very professional. Belly pork best I’ve had! Hope to be back again!

A unique set up with an arty ,quirky vibe, totally unexpected from looking at the pub from outside. you can have your dinner admiring the large lino cut prints and watercolours on the main wall, by local artist. I had a superb roast pork belly with creamed potatoes and perfectly cooked greens. Very friendly staff too. AND, they let you play Scrabble after your meal !

Went for Sunday lunch, looked forward to it and we were not disappointed, actually, we were amazed! Great friendly, engaging staff who went the extra mile with a smile, fabulous food, beer and wine and at the end of the day, also great value for such high quality, locally sourced products. Book early as they are busy, but do pay them a visit. Loads of quirky bric-à-brac all over which in itself is worth seeing. Live music that wasn’t overbearing and simply suited a relaxed Sunday afternoon lunch. Very highly recommended.

#1 We have been going to The Sheppey for 10 years or more. It's not local so we only get to go every year or so. I am happy and excited to say 'It's better than ever!' It has to be the quirkiest Pub / Restaurant in Somerset with a Retro 70's theme and serving an amazing array of Local Beers and Ciders. We had what is perhaps the signature dish, 'Fish Stew'. It may sound ordinary, but this is quite exceptional. Loaded with Fish and Mussels and served with romesco, parmesan and fresh bread. Quality, Service and Value for Money 10/10 We are planning to go back again soon, as on 27 Oct, they have an Open Mic. Well done to Ben & Tamsin for providing us with a memorable visit.

We had our Wedding at The Sheppey and we wanted to say a massive Thank You for making our Day so incredibly special. Everything from the food, to the friendly Bar/Waiting Staff to the overall atmosphere was second to none and we would not have changed one thing. A special mention to Ben and Tamsin who have been nothing short of accommodating and helpful from the very start of our journey but for a Pub that doesn’t normally do Weddings, the whole Day was absolutely incredible!! Thank you so much - Lou & Simon xx

A mostly enjoyable Sunday lunch: tasty veg, lovely homemade horseradish sauce and a good selection of puddings. The service was rather slow (they were rather understaffed) but pleasant, and fortunately we weren’t in a hurry. Unfortunately, my beef was tough and at least half of it was inedible. Apparently I wasn’t the only one to complain about it and the waiting staff did apologise, but I wasn’t offered any compensation, hence four stars rather than five.

Went with friends for lunch. It’s a lovely setting next to water and very quirky inside, lots of interest to look at. The service was friendly and attentive. All our main courses were well presented, good portions and tasted lovely. We had a couple of desserts the pineapple Piña colada jelly and rhubarb Mille-feuille. The jelly looked amazing, but the taste didn’t really match the looks. The Mille-feuille tasted very nice, but the edible flowers, while edible, were just not nice. Overall I think if they made the desserts a bit less complicated and concentrated on flavour as much a presentation, then they would match the mains. Like most restaurants these days the prices I think are quite high, but I accept that may just be what I think in general. Overall it was a lovely lunch and a fun setting to see our friends.

I have come here before and have had great service and food. I came with friends this time as my recommendation. However, we were quickly let down. We were left waiting for a drinks order for 15 minutes after arriving. We ordered a starter to share and were told when ordering our mains, that the kitchen would be closing at 9, which is understandable. We had the drinks and food which were all really good, but as soon as we finished our mains we were asked about desserts even though we hadn’t looked at the menu. We were told to hurry up as the kitchen was closing for desserts, but it was only 9.15…? I would’ve liked to have had another couple drinks with my friends as it was a celebration! We just asked for the bill instead which we waited for (30mins) and it never came so we went to the bar to pay. Btw - when told kitchen closes at 9 and last seating at 8.30, how can you be expected to order and have starters/ mains and desserts within 30 minutes? The waiter also told us the pub shuts at 10pm, yet your website states 11pm on weekdays. I suggest telling the waiter what times you operate as he clearly didn’t know. FYI I normally tip 15% on top of the bill but didn’t feel it was worth it this time. Don’t think I’ll be back anytime soon.

A group of us visited The Sheppey after a late afternoon visit to RSPB Ham Wall. We received a really warm welcome from all the staff, who were both friendly and knowledgeable about the extensive and impressive array of local beers and ciders. The Curiosity DIPA from Wookey Brewing certainly went down well. The place is like a TARDIS – understated and unimposing on the outside, particularly in the dark, but cavernous yet cosy when you come through the front door. The idiosyncratic memorabilia and fun wall prints add to the charm. Great food and drink and excellent service from all the young staff, particularly Scarlett who looked after the eleven of us. Now that we’ve found it, looking forward to the next visit.

Do not judge this place by its exterior. What a surprise when you enter, you don't know where look first. Very pleasant greeting staff who let us sit at our table even though we were 30 minutes early which meant we could place our order before a table of 13 arrived. All meals were thoroughly enjoyed but unfortunately we had no room for pudds. Would definitely return if in the area. And a great bonus is it is dog friendly.

It's a long time since we last visited, definitely pre covid and not since the new owners took over. A lot has changed but it's better than ever preserving the quirkiness of 'before' but moving it into a new gastro pub era. And now it has a proper pub sign outside so you can find it!! It doesn't lack the fun factor, but it's a little tidier than before. Honestly this place is amazing. Not least due to the very attentive and slick customer interface - friendly but professional staff that really do understand about customer satisfaction, attentive but not overly, observant and responsive and above all kind and lovely. It was very evident. The choice of cider/beer and everything is exceptional, why not try a pint of Murmuration! Lovely Somerset cider. The menu was excellent. As a veggie I'd have liked a little more choice, but what I had was delicious. Biryani BonBons!! Fascinating mix of flavours in a delicious sauce. The 'boys' had meaty dishes and every plate was stripped clean. We had olives and bread to start which were simply divine and finished off with a fabulous pud, kindly decorated to celebrate a birthday. Great care was taken with one intolerance in our party and we had a fab evening thank you. But there's so much more to the Sheppey, the artwork on the walls, the eclectic displays of toys and ephemera, the arty artefacts and decorations, it's all a brilliant mix that together makes this pub exceptional. I was surprised to read a few reviews complaining about the prices, this is not cheap eats venue, its a destination where the whole experience is included in the price. I've eaten at many very high end restaurants and the food here is as good if not better. If you want cheap eats get a takeaway, and eat it in your own home. If you want an exceptional meal out, somewhere different with a carefully crafted menu and exquisite flavours, then take a risk and venture out onto the levels into the darkest somerset night and eat here. You won't be disappointed.

Visited on Saturday lunchtime where the staff were all a little stressed having just lost their head chef. Despite being busy the professionalism of this team didn't falter. Deciding what to drink was helped by the knowledgeable bar staff who asked what we liked by way of beer/cider and made suggestions with taster samples. Spotting we had 3 dogs in our party they immediately found us a table with more space for our dogs. Menus were supplied and orders taken swiftly. We were chatting away and not in a rush but the staff kept coming to check on us and apologised for the wait (we honestly didn't feel like we were waiting). Unfortunately one of our dogs had a little accident which I was very embarrassed about and has never happened before but the staff were great swiftly providing a mop and bucket for me to clear up (thank goodness for hard floors). Our starters were amazing, 2 of us had the cheese croquettes served with piccalilli and cornichons just right to cut through the richness, one had the delicious soup of the day and the fourth had the mushrooms and mozzarella. Everything was hot, well presented and delicious. For mains we had the butternut squash risotto, smoked haddock mornay, fish stew and chicken Milanese. One of my friends had chip envy when he saw mine and asked if he could have a portion and they were swiftly produced like magic and rather special. We were regularly visited to check if everything was OK and if we had enough drinks. More apologies were offered for our wait which we honestly didn't notice. We'd always prefer good food over fast food. We were too full for pudding and rolled out the door happy and satiated after a lovely lunch. It wasn't our first visit and won't be our last. Thanks to the team who worked so hard, promote the chef you have, he did great!

Someone with an eye for design put the room together! The balcony overlooking the stream and fields was where we had our breakfast. Shower was great, bed was very comfy. Breakfast was continental and with lots of thoughtful detail in "the cupboard". We went into the restuarant and were treated to a first class experience. The food was excellent and unrushed. The quality of the food was excellent. Service was a little slow, but we put that down to staff shortages. However, the piped music was quite loud, and with everyone seemingly talking loudly over it, we found conversation at normal volume almost impossible. The pub was also quite busy in the area we were seated, with other parts of the building apparently closed off. The tables were close together, which we found a bit uncomfortable. We would recommend people to go just to experience it. We went at lunchtime - perhaps it's more of an evening venue. Younger people would probably enjoy it more than we did.

Drove down from Surrey with family to meet friends and had a table reserved (on recommendation from others). In all one of our group had to find staff on three occasions to find out what was happening. First time, after 20minutes, to find someone to take an order. Second time after 40minutes to find where the drinks were and third time after 65minutes in search of our food. When the drinks arrived, on enquiry about the food we were rudely told that cooking fresh food takes time and we should spend our time "bird watching". Later, when the sun was high we moved our table out of the direct sunlight (we had a three month old baby with us) only to be told, quite rudely to move it back. We were told that other diners needed to be able to move past. Firstly, we had left at least a metre for anyone to move past and secondly "what other diners!!!" There were none, for all the time we were there. We were told to choose another table, which was much smaller for our meal, which eventually arrived.I have to admit the food was very good, but this does not make up for the extremely slow service and poor attitude of the staff. The management of this place need to get a grip on what is happening in their pub if they are going to attract customers backi If asked I certainly would not be recommending it and will have to think very carefully about ever going there again.

Great food but service very slow. We arrived at 1pm and had an outside table. Did not get our order taken so had to go inside to ask to be served. Took 40 minutes for the drinks to arrive and well over an hour for the food. We were told to enjoy the views whilst we waited and that the delay was because all the food is freshly cooked and that they were very busy. If the food hadn't been good we would have walked out. The setting and ambience is very good but the service and attitude of some of the staff needs to improve. Would go again but we will leave if the service is as bad again.

What a fabulous find. Looks unprepossessing from the outside but step instep and it has rustic charm and quirkiness. The menu is interesting and all the produce is local, bread sourced from an artisan baker next door and most of the fruit and veg from a farm on the same road as the pub. Hadn’t been here for a while. Nice welcome and very friendly service. My wife had the delicious and plentiful seafood stew to start (more later) and I had three small crunchy arancini - moist and gooey in the middle and served with a nice sharp chutney. Wife had the Wedmore tart for mains - topped with caramelised chicory and melted cheese; she really enjoyed it. Back to my mains - the seafood stew; wow, it was delicious and really filling - plenty of perfectly cooked fish, mussels etc and accompanied by focaccia and a rouille (think Bouillabaisse). I was too full for dessert, but my wife had a moreish deconstructed banoffie. We really enjoyed our meal, the beers, the friendly service and the overall atmosphere/experience. It was good to be back and we will return again. Excellent!

My wife had the mushroom burger. She was disappointed with it, the patty was quite wet in its consistency and pretty tasteless. I had a chicken tikka burger which was nicely flavoured but the accompanying bun was un-toasted and quite unexciting. Nice slaw and OK chips. Wife had a nice banoffee pie desert. I had a chocolate pave and it was bit too over-rich and had a powdery taste. It was average. Nicely presented G&T and a Bristol Beer Factory cream stout were very nice. Atmosphere is quirky, but at the expense of comfort, seating is rock-hard

We have been coming as a group for years now a couple of times a year. This year we were all a bit disappointed. There was an issue with our booking which was resolved quite quickly but an anxious moment for the organiser. We were given 2 menus for 7 off us so ordering was time consuming. We actually had to photograph the menu and WhatsApp each other. The Camembert sharer was lovely however it came with 4 very small fingers of bread and no side plates. Not sure how you share without plates and 2 small fingers of bread. We had to ask for plates and extra bread which was lovely but inconvenient. One of the table we ate off was very rocky and we needed to diy it. The roast was just ok and nothing to shout about like we have previously. As a vegetarian the veg is important to me and when ordering the roast the veg used to be superbly done and arrive on a separate plate. It came with 1 carrot and the red cabbage used to be divine, but not this time it was rather peppery. We had to ask for horseradish to be brought to the table for the beef and one of our party did not get red cabbage and had quite a gap on their plate until we mentioned it. He was then served a large lump of red cabbage which was quite amusing for us but not him.The used glasses from our table weren’t removed when orders taken and built up and drinks order arrived a bit fragmented and we had to chase up. The fish soup arrived without a spoon which we had to ask for. Also the music used to be great and created a lovely atmosphere to enjoy, but this time we had to listen to quite a bit of heavy rock music which wasn’t very relaxing. The service was pleasant but we just felt we were being a bit inconvenient when asking for things like horse radish, plates, and drinks and spoons. When it came to desserts one of the party decided rather late on that she would like the cream brûlée, she was told the kitchen was closed but they would see what they could do. They kindly made one but as it was served the guy serving it said something along the lines of enjoy my brother cream brûlée’s . So not sure if we had pinched the last one off his brother or that he was proud of his brothers brûlée’s.I have to say dessert was lovely though as were the dessert liqueurs. So in summary still a fab place to visit with good food which I’d still recommend but not as good as we have come to expect and we are unsure if we would visit for food again as a group but perhaps just for drinks next time.

Very disappointing which is not how it has been in the past. Starters arrived before drinks, starter of sticky beef was virtually inedible , ordered a plain chicken fillet burger with no accompaniments, came with melted cheese, explained they can’t eat cheese, when brought back still had remnants of cheese on it( we could have scraped it off but that wasn’t what we had asked) we asked did you just scrape the cheese off and the answer was yes, had to explain again they can’t eat cheese so unfortunately the time it can back we had finished main courses, sword fish was very salty but none of us by this time were enjoying our evening not a celebratory meal as planned, waitress was apologetic when we explained what was wrong with the food but paid up and left. We went there for my wife's birthday and it didn't disappoint (other than the weather, that is). Great location, really good food and friendly staff - what more could you want? The car parking is tight though, so plan to get there early. Thanks to the English rain we sat inside, but on a sunny day the deck at the back with the stream running past would be a delight.

Friendly, quirky and welcoming, and there’s fine food and drink in this barn of a place which we visited for dinner shortly after indoor catering re-opened. Very good range of beers (British ales and American-style brews), ciders and wines, and the playlist catered well for our (millennial) tastes. They’re planning the return of live music.Good social distancing and other Covid-aware arrangements, and unlike so many places they’ve got the message on providing adequate ventilation.A fair drive from anywhere, but it’s very well worth it and there’s plenty of parking along the village road. Don’t be put off by the slightly industrial-looking exterior to the building!

This is a fantastic pub / restaurant which has recently changed hands. There is ample parking nearby and the staff are so friendly and welcoming. The outside seating area is vast with fabulous views. I loved how authentic and rustic it is both inside and out. The menu is varied and the owners are clearly passionate about using fresh local produce. The food was fresh and delicious with good size portions. There was a a wide range of drinks available on the menu and they certainly did not disappoint. This is a real gem and I will most certainly be back again very soon.

By far the best pub in the South West, wonderful setting, Somerset at its best. Complimented by amazing drinks menu, fabulously cooked food all served by staff with a smile who care about the food, the service and their customers. 10/10.

This was a wonderful find. The food was way above anything expected and good value. I’m a real ale drinker and the beer was very well kept. The service was 5 star too. What else can I say. 5 stars all round. Highly recommended.

Telephone booking lovely. Great meet and greet. Trying real hard to abide by Covid. Meal lovely. I don’t mind paying for quality but slightly overpriced. But everything else about the venue was outstanding. Don’t be put off by the outside appearance. 9.5 out of 10.

Service good and food tasty and reasonably priced (we had the beef and chicken burgers). However, from the outside I thought we’d come to the wrong pub as externally it looks pretty rundown. The outside area which boasts views of the river is rather over represented by the website photos. If you want decent food and beer then this is the place for you. If you want a nice setting with views then........

I booked the restaurant for 4pm however when I realised I wasn't going to make it on time, I gave them a call to say I would be 30 min late. They explained due to covid-19 they were unable to take us due to kitchen closing down, less personnel and the pub itself closing at 5,30pm!! . The pub looked so good I was not prepared to let it go so I pleaded for them to take the order over the phone so it would be ready by the time we arrived. They were hesitant but eventually agreed. And we couldn't be happier...When we arrived we were thrilled with our choice, its a beautiful pub, nice and airy and the decoration was inviting and chic. The food was also extraordinary. we had a bit of everything : pork, beef and veggie options, and it was mouth watering good. All of their food and produce is locally sourced or grown tin the area- and truly tasty! The house wine and crafted beers were also thumbs up fab. Service was phenomenal; the landlady took time to come and chat with us and was so lovely and friendly. We were really pleased we made it. The only thing we were slightly dissapointed with is the fact we didn't get to spend as much time in there as we would have liked. We were in the area for a few days over our summer holidays and would not hesitate to go back when we go back to this lovely part of England.

We called in after visiting Wells on a really rainy Saturday at the end of October. We hadn’t booked but wanted to check out the Sheppey as we’d seen they did rooms so wanted to do a reccy. We hadn’t booked but they found us a table and whilst they said we might have a half an hour wait for food we weren’t in a hurry so we’re happy to wait. I took the dog outside to feed him (he’s a noisy little trougher) which gave me the chance to look at the views from the decked area (which are stunning). We ordered the steak sandwich and the mushroom potato cake both of which were stunning! Hubby tried two of the ciders which he said were delicious so he was very happy.Fabulous service from a team of very welcoming chaps, we’ll be back for sure.

Another fantastic trip! My husband and I visited The Sheppey today on our way home from our trip to Somerset. We had previously found the place by luck and had to go back. Admittedly during Covid it’s a bit different, but they’re doing everything so well you would barely notice a pandemic going on if you didn’t know. We popped in earlier and were greeted with the same warmth as the first time and I think may have had the same waiter. He was truly fantastic. It’s a pub 200 miles from my house where I feel like a local. If you’re into good food and quirky decor this place is for you. I had the most excellent cheese sandwich on homemade focaccia - simple but they nailed it. Keep up the excellent work! We will be back, hopefully very soon

Visited early sept whilst on a weekend away with my partner. OMG!Quirky interior, friendly helpful staff and above all else, the most mouth watering food to die for! Awesome meat and vegetarian menu, thoughtfully put together and expertly executed. Every course was as good as the last! Fab local ciders and non alcoholic options also locally sourced were available. If we lived closer this would be our new favourite restaurant, hands down! Looking forward to our next visit. The whole experience was out of this world! Highly, highly recommended. A*

Came to the Sheppey with my parents after having quite a few recommendations while staying in the area and it really did live up to all expectations! The location is absolutely stunning, situated in a quiet lane right next to the water, we arrived just as the sun set and had our drinks out on the terrace, which was beautiful! The food was all fantastic - my table had a wide selection of fish and meat dishes and all were cooked brilliantly with great flavour. The bar offers wine from kegs which is a unique way to save glass (we learned all about it as we ordered) which is a really fab idea and lovely to see - it seems a very responsible pub! The star of the show was Lizzie our waitress for the evening though - all the staff were very friendly and attentive but she really made an effort to have good conversation with us, offered recommendations and gave us some tasters of her favourite Portuguese liqueur! Really was a fab evening and hopefully we'll be back soon.

Currently sat upstairs enjoying a lovely glass of red in our beautiful room. We have had the best short break and I’m so glad I found the place, now my favourite pub ever. The rooms are absolutely beautiful and nothing has been forgotten. My partner is in love with the 90’s magazines in the room and I wish this was our forever bedroom . We are in the restaurant both nights and the food was great matched with perfect service, the landlady, manager and staff are brilliant and we instantly felt looked after, we really don’t want to leave , so much so that we booked to come again in April as soon as we finished our dinner. This is a really special find and I would recommend to anyone and everyone, cannot wait to come back! Thank you!

We really enjoyed our Sunday roast here a few weeks ago. I had the roast pork and it was perfectly cooked with crispy crackling. Our friends loved the fish soup, tasted very authentic. The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere and it’s huge inside. We could have been in trendy Shoreditch rather than a quaint village in rural Somerset. Would definitely go again when visiting friends next time

The Sheppey came recommended by both friends and coincidentally our Glastonbury Airbnb host. The Sheppey didn't disappoint and although the new normal requires advance bookings with a 4.00pm Sunday lunch it was worth the wait. The build up starts with a rambling and scenic drive that slows you down to appreciate the quirky and rustic setting. Attentive staf, despite our late booking make you feel welcome as food and drinks arrive quickly. We shared a wonderful starter, crispy and not overcooked on the outside and perfectly made warm cheese based filling on the inside. My roast beef was tasty and not overcooked and the accompanying roast potatoes crispy on outside yet still moist on inside. Vegetables not overcooked and the biggest yorkshire ever, although it did lack flavour.Desert was in a different class altogether. Cant recall the name but there was a traige of lemon offerings, lemon mouuse ensconsed in a delicate sweet lemon wafer to die for, fresh frozen sorbet cleansed the pallatte whilst lemon ice cream was sensational. Best desert ever..Wonderful setting and although we would have preferred a river table, staff were cool despite covid restrictions if we carefully took some space and time post meal to wallow in the setting and let our food digest.

Wow! What a dissapoinment! We have travelled 15 miles to visit after many recommendations and we were presented with a medioca of a meal, I would of much rather enjoyed a meal a McDonald's! The drinks were dissapointing, the salad was too strong a flavour for the crab and chips were undercooked for my partners meal! The service was good and and the staff did compensate us when I expressed my dissapointed. I would not advise this establishment or go here again.

Heading from Glastonbury along a series of lane which became progressively narrower, we eventually found the Sheppey Inn and a spot to park the car nearby. Unfortunately we arrived too late for lunch, but enjoyed a refreshing drink sitting on the deck outside. I tried the Sheppey Special Brew, which went down rather well. The ambiance was very peaceful and relaxed, and we all enjoyed the sunny weather basking the beautiful countryside in brilliant colour. We will go back.

You would have no idea from the outside what this looks like inside. Opens out inside into a lovely large dining area (think barn ) and other tables in the bar area too. Lovely outdoor seating by the river. Service with a smile , a lovely welcome. Food is good. Fish stew was great , just lacked some seasoning. Husband found the fish and chips a bit bland. Steak sandwich great, as were the croquettes. All beautifully presented. Would go back.

Lovely trip to the Sheppey last night for our first meal out since lockdown. They have done a great job which is no mean feat in the current climate! The tables are nicely spaced apart so it feels nice and safe but still retains a lovely atmosphere. The staff were really friendly and the food was delicious. We had fish stew, beer battered fish and chips followed by strawberry cheesecake and sorbet. And Toby recommended a great bottle of red wine to accompany the meal . We will definitely be back - in fact we have friends staying next weekend and have already booked a table so we can all enjoy a well earned night out!

Visited Glastonbury whilst on a weeks break in Crewkerne. Popped into to this lovely cafe as it was dog friendly. Forgetting my glasses I asked if they catered for gluten free, they did (it stated it on the menu). As I ordered the lady behind the counter asked if I was coeliac, I told her I was. When the food was brought to the table, the lady explained that she had cleaned the kitchen and prepared my food using all new unopened ingredients. All I had was a corned beef and onion sandwich, but the attention to detail was second to none. Really recommend this place to coeliacs and non coeliacs.

We don’t really know Dorking but came for a comedy gig and wanted food and drink before the show. We booked a table online and then were a bit confused when we walked in as it’s looks like a work space but then has a bar and says it served food. The staff explained they had a limited menu currently. As we were there and we’d booked we thought we’d give it a go. We ordered halloumi fries to start and then various burgers - whilst initially worried this was just going to be a zap in the microwave job; how wrong we were. The food was so good. The food was restaurant quality!! The staff (particularly the gent I assume was the manager) were so friendly and helpful and couldn’t do enough for us. We will definitely go again; and look forward to when they have their full menu.
