Crown inn pilton in Mendip

Been before had a good Sunday Lunch, we had 2x Pork and 2x Chicken and both was very good, sadly for me the portion size was too large as was the other pork dish. The two chicken dishes were demolished. Good selection of Ales, allegedly owned by Banksy and the decor is definitely of he's style. All in all an enjoyable lunch.

Great food, great beer, great atmosphere

Mum said let's stop in for some gluten free fish and chips which obviously I thought would be a travesty as gluten free anything is always an exercise in good will and steely mouths. The evening ended up being tricky for me as I had a tough time leaving due to so much egg on my face. The food was absolutely, hands down, the best gluten-free fayre I've had anywhere, which I know is mental but it's BLOODY WELL TRUE. Walked in and the staff were such a delight, the place was packed with friendly faces, the dining room was clean as a whistle and yes, the food totally exceptional. I joked too many times with the staff that I thought they were poisoning us with the fake GF food, so much so I alienated myself from the crew and mum told me off. Anyway, social destruction aside it was truly wonderful and I can't wait to go back in disguise.

Lack of organisation and communication contributing to very poor customer service. At the bar others arriving at the bar after us were being served before us. Shown to our table we had to ask for menus and only given 3 when there were 4 of us. We had to ask the waiter if they would take our order having waited quite some time for them to come to us.They had run out of burger of the day, pakora,and the chicken dish that 3 of us had ordered. Observing and experiencing the chaos we decided to leave. We were asked if we had paid for our drinks and were told we were being rude. This was meant to have been a special night out celebrating 2 birthdays and Christmas. I'm unable to comment on food as we didn't get that far. It is likely they missed out on a possible bill of around £150! I will not be returning nor I'm sure will the other 3 in my party.

Great beer, staff and lovely food. I hope they keep the Joy of Sesh on as it's one of my favourite pints.

Visited The crown for Sunday lunch, which everyone agreed it was very tasty. Small menu but very well executed. The decor is amazing in the restaurant, very off the wall and gives the place a unique setting. Staff are very well trained and attentive without being too overbearing, nothing is a problem for them. there was one issue and that was the gents, it had a strong smell of urine, unfortunately it escaped my mind to tell the manager as we were having a discussion at the table, other than tat it was spotless. keep it up.

Great choice of drinks and tasty food with quick service! The pub itself is quirky and has a great atmosphere. Overall great experience. Will definitely be returning!

A really popular and atmospheric little watering hole. The car park was very busy which normally indicates something is good. Walking into the beer garden I couldn't believe how quirky it was. Some great covered and heated outdoor spaces with arm chairs and photos on the wall to mimic an indoor sitting room. Then there was a massive hand carved wooden table and what I could only describe as dining thrones. Just next to this was a well surrounded by benches. There was plenty of spaces to sit outdoors. Inside was nice and cooling with a buzzing busy atmosphere but no tables available. Staff were incredibly friendly and offered suggestions on what drink to try. The food serving station outside offered very welcome shade in the heat whilst drinking my beer and contemplating an evening meal. I didn't pop in to eat but seeing some of the plates being served swayed me. This was clearly a step up from normal pub grub. I enjoyed a really nice and different ice cold lager. Then had a stunning burger, skin on fries and slaw served on a board. Delicious!!!

Really, really didn’t enjoy our meal here, so much so that in spite of it being the closest pub to home, we will not return. The food here is aggressive and overdone. Simple bruschetta ruined by the use of soggy “sundried” tomatoes and worse, a spread of such a heavy, pungent herb paste that it overpowered everything and made a dish that is hard to ruin, truly inedible. The Caesar salad was so overloaded with sardines that one could scarcely hazard a bite without a mouthful of old, foul-smelling fish. To say this kitchen is over-eager is perhaps the generous attitude. More realistically, I would call it arrogantly unskilled and not worth a second visit. Service was polite but disinterested, having an incredulous attitude that one was not fawning over the food. I hope they consider pulling back and doing more with less — simplicity and humility are the fundamentals of a great kitchen.

Quirky place - loved the interesting decor and artwork displayed. Staff all very helpful and attentive. Food was great with vegan and gluten free options. Fish and chips were fantastic. Good choice of ciders.

This is a great place I love to visit each time we're down in Glasto. Beautiful garden for eating and to have a good drink and chill in. Well recomend a visit to. Will be down in Glasto/Pilton again very soon. Food is lovely and a great barby in the garden with beautiful food. Bit pricey but worth it.

Staff were really friendly and helpful. The whole place was lovely and clean. I ordered off the special board and my food came with potatoes with rosemary and i couldnt eat them, they were overpowered with rosemary. I would return as it was a pleasant outing.

Had two fabulous trips here whilst on a local holiday. Gorgeous pub with incredible food (and a smoker in the garden) and lovely knowledgeable staff. We came one evening and ate from the smoker and had such a fab experience we returned for lunch the next day. Could not recommend highly enough! Can’t wait to return. Thank you team!

What used to be a classic 70s village pub has been updated rather well. It's attractive, has an excellent garden, a really good range of beers and ciders, knowledgeable staff and a really good kitchen - I had the best fish & chips I have had in years and years.

An incredible pub. Full of different aspects and things to look at. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, the staff were excellent and helpful, nothing a bother for them. The outside space is a thing to see. Only wish it wasn't raining as we'd all be out there. Lastly, the food was top draw. After a feed like that I needed a knap. We'll be back. Thank you to the staff.

A friend and I popped in to the Crown for a beer on Saturday evening, what a lovely pub! Its the first time I've been since it's been refurbished and they've done an excellent Job! We didn't eat but just sat in the bar area which has been really nicely refurbished still with a proper nice cosy pub feel to it. The staff were really friendly, welcoming and helpful. I'll definitely be going back again soon, hopefully next time for food as well.

An atmospheric pub an imperium of interesting artefacts everywhere you look. The garden suitable for families covered areas, play area for children with outside bar and bbq in good weather.

You can't get any more quirky than the Crown at Pilton! Good range of ciders and beers and a brilliant beer garden.

I don't know if we were just unlucky but today's Sunday roast lunch was really disappointing. I was expecting excellence but what we received was far from that. The meat had a reheated in the mic look about it and it was not great. Too little veg and the red wine gravy was so salty you wouldn't know wine had been added. Overall, pretty poor!

Two of the most disappointing dishes I have ever ordered. Packed out Saturday night, but service still poor. No WiFi, one waiter hit me with a child's chair, but didn't feel the need to apologise . Otherwise service just by the numbers. Deep fried feta exactly that, a slab of salty dairy with little garnish. Mackerel nicoise would have Escoffier turning in his grave. Take away the carrot ribbons, little gem leaves, red onion, and you're left with some smoked mackerel scrapings, skin on, 4 or 5 olives and two undressed potatoes and a nearly hard boiled egg. £17 perlease, get a grip

James the manager was really friendly and has a good sense of humour, made us all laugh. I absolutely loved the decorations and the overall vibe. It has a Glastonbury festival feeling which is exactly what you want from a pub in Pilton. I really enjoyed the roast dinner, I thought it was tasty and had a good twist to it serving beetroot and beans as the vegetables. My parents were less impressed because they felt it wasn't traditional....but if your open minded to something a bit different you'll love it as much as I do. Would definitely recommend!!!

Ecstatic! We had no words to express how amazingly this place has been turned around. Lovely, atmospheric, fresh and original. Stuff is superb, friendly, kind and attentive. Great family orientated pub suitable for a young group of friends, couple seeking nice evening out or a family wanting to spend some time together. Garden is lovely arranged with plenty of seating and separate areas. Manu is designed to cater for different needs, vegans, vegetarians and celiacs, with locally sourced ingredients. Definitely worth a visit!

Table of 4. All had a faultless meal. Service was excellent. Also drank some local cider, which went down a treat! The new refurbishment of the crown is very well presented. We will be visiting again.

What a fantastic little pub! Stopped off here for dinner en route home last week and will be finding excuses to visit here again thats for sure! Fantastic food, great service, a Glastonbury Festival themed play park for the kids and a lovely low alco draught from the Bristol Beer Factory (Clear Head) for the driver to enjoy in the gorgeous sunlit garden. I've driven past this pub a thousand times. Heard it had undergone a renovation so dropped in for a drink in the lovely sunny garden yesterday evening. Very nice place, welcoming and homely with a bit of a weirdie modern edge to the decor. There is a large car park out of sight from the main road located at the rear of the pub. Good selection of beers. Lovely looking dining area. Didn't eat, but the menu looks great and very reasonably priced. As it's a 5 minute walk from the site of the Glastonbury festival next month I think it'll be a very busy little pub and deservedly so.

Thank you to the pub for putting the Reggae event on. We loved it!

I love what they have done to the pub, beautifully restored and furnished, great beers and super-friendly staff - had dinner at the Crown for the first time last week and we won't be eating there again I'm afraid - very disappointed ! My sirloin steak was hugely over-seasoned with salt and appeared to have been chucked onto the plate with a random scoop of chips and a single small mushroom - food presentation nil points ! My partner had the macaroni cheese which was REALLY dry, no creamy sauce at all - the lady on the next table also had the same dried-up macaroni - when I mentioned this to the waitress, she apologised and said there had been a change of chef and the new one just doesn't seem to be able to get the macaroni cheese right at all !! The pub has got everything going for it, so come on, up your game on the food front please !

Lovely Evening... Would have given it 5☆ but our table had been double booked so we had to wait. They done all they could to get us seated as quickly as possible though & we had a free drink for waiting. The food was great & so was the atmosphere. I would recommend an evening out at my local. Lovely seated area in the garden too,roll on the summer!!!

Beautifully decorated throughout the pub, cosy and quirky. Beautiful dining space, local artwork and exhibition upstairs was a brilliant touch. Seating outside was spacious, lovely play area for small children. Had a lovely experience and would definitely recommend and go again

Had a lovely meal here with my family. Looked after really well by the members of the bar staff. My mother uses a wheel chair and the front door is just wide enough tho the steps do make it tricky. Very relaxed and wonderfully cooked and prepared dishes. I look forward to coming again and I'd be halt to recommend

What a great pub, the refurbishment has been done so well putting this up there with the top pubs in the area. Great drinks selection, food was amazing and staff were brilliant! Garden is huge and perfect for summer beers. Can't wait to return!

Can here to meet up with a friend over lunch. It’s a very qwerty pub, with weird and wonderful things placed around. We ate in the restaurant area, which was well spaced out. My friend has the fish and chips and a cheese board, while I had the roast pork and chocolate brownie. Although the food was nice, the roasts are served on small plates, for the price, Ive had bigger portions elsewhere that have been nice of not better. Drinks were a good price, pint of orange juice and lemonade £3. I thought I’d taken a photo of my roast, but obviously didn’t. I’d go back again to try a mid week meal, but wouldn’t be my go to for a roast.

We’ve eaten here a couple of times. Once for mid week lunch and then for Sunday lunch. The mid week lunch menu is limited but they do have a specials board. Don’t expect a sandwich though as that option wasn’t on the menu. What we did have was very good and the service was also very good. We then booked for Sunday lunch. It was a close call, but certainly one of the best Sunday lunches I’ve had. Fantastic food, and again great service. Highly recommend

Newly renovated, artistically designed, great function room and tavern-style restaurant with interesting menu.

Good food, good service. Although everything is expensive at present, reasonable prices for the times that we live in at present. The garden area looks great, and I'm looking forward to visiting in spring.

Have visited a few times since refurbished, absolutely love it. Really tasty food, great range of veggie and meat options. Food came out quickly and hot, kids menu is great and the whole establishment is very kid friendly from colouring pens at tables and games cupboard to outside play equipment. The decor is lovely, and still feels very cosy, its open and serving food all day which we really like. Staff are very friendly and welcoming and there is options to sit in the bar area which is dog friendly or a more formal restaurant space.

Second time I’ve eaten here since it re-opened. The pub looks amazing 🤩 Starters were absolutely delicious and a good size. Only negative was the main was a little on the small size for the price. Refreshing to meet such enthusiastic young chefs and well done to all involved for making a go in this current climate. We’ll be back soon 💥 ps excellent choice for veggies and vegans !

Really enjoyed visiting the Crown. The refurbishment is superb with a warm comfortable feel. Not the most extensive menu but the food was fresh and very tasty. I have always thought, have a smaller choice, but do it well, and they certainly are. The staff were courteous and friendly. I will be visiting again.
